Saltzpyre is also incredibly level-headed by Witch Hunter standards. He's taking Sienna in for trial rather than an on the spot execution, and as the two get to know each other he comes to respect her despite still distrusting her powers. Some of their conversations even have him giving her advice for after her trial, which to me says that he hopes she's found innocent. He can also tell a story about a time that a noble accused a woman of witchcraft, so he investigated, and discovered that she was clearly innocent and the noble wanted her silenced because they'd had an affair. So he went back to the noble and pretty much said, "hey buster, you're donating half of your wealth to the church or going up on the pyre you tried have her put on."
Saltzpyre may distrust Sienna's magics, but one theory I've had is that his distrust of Sienna's magic comes primarily because of how much she relies on her pyromancy. It's less that he doesn't like her magic, and more that since she's only relying on her magic she'll be less than useless if she ever can't use her magic for whatever reason, and considering how destructive and volatile pyromancy is, his suspicion is warranted, especially because if Sienna's control lapses for even a moment then she can set the entire town ablaze and kill everyone the Ubersreik 5 are trying to save
@@sev1120 And not to mention the potential damage she's to cause her self, which is a actually quite a big part of her gameplay. Saltzpyre may not admit it but he cares quite a bit about her
Witch Hunters are a different breed of madlad because when you're an inquisitor at least you have the ability to call anything down on the foe you've found. If you're a witch hunter it's just you and your homies against the foulest creature of the night
Yeah tbh, idk if they can really be compared beyond surface level. Sure they both have high degree of authority relative to their society, but an Inquisitor has way more ressources. Most of the legwork of the inquisition is done by acolytes anyways, those are the guys who could be compared to a witch hunter (because they actually have to get down there and investigate and risk horrific death because they don't have a fancy power armour)
Victor Saltzpyre has emerged unscathed from many dangerous situations, Fighting rat ogres, Destroying bile troll factories, Shutting down a whole ass portal and perhaps most impressively sneaking out of Siennas quarters without anyone noticing
There's also a bit of dialogue where Saltz admits he was spying on Kerillian without her noticing A middle aged, mortal man manages to spy on a elf with hundreds, if not thousands of years of experience in tracking and hunting, without her noticing Saltz is truly built different
A important thing that you mistook at 7:33. The Comet appearance turned the city of Mordheim into basically gomorrah as countless people came to see the comet and, thinking themselves blessed, threw themselves to hedonism and debauchery. The comet than actually fell after a while and wiped the city out, expect for the fortress monastery of the Sisters. That's when they were declared heretical, accused of having used sorcery to survive Sigmar's judgment, when in reality it was their faith that most likely kept the fortress standing.
Frankly, even if the comet hadn't hit Mordheim, the Grand Theogonist at the time still would've tried to find any excuse to declare the Sisters a bunch of heretics just because he really was that much of a diehard misogynist.
The author who wrote part of the grand theogonist at that time didn't know that church wasn't a thing in Warhammer fantasy literature and so the next author clarifying the problem by having the grand theogonist wasn't as popular as the sisters of sigmar, because they can read the future and so he conspired to get rid of them. ua-cam.com/users/liveI9O6L5cvnrs?si=1FVBOD_MzzCDzxkI at 2:01:10

About Skavenslayer - Gothrek and Felix didn't exactly stopped invasion plans, but rather inflicted a similar damage to the ratman army. If I remember everything correctly, Skryre was successful in destroying College of engineering, but lost quite a bit of their own tech guys in the process. Pestilence was successful at spreading plague, which jumped on their own kind after plague monk leader took a bath in a cursed cauldron. Maulder was successful at causing famine, which then destroyed their own supplies. Eshin failed without accomplishing anything, but they kinda didn't had a grand plan.
They did ultimately prevent the invasion from being successful, and likely lowered the amount of damage done by the skaven. Pestilence did unleash a plaque, but without the cauldron, the spread was not as bad as it could have been. And it lost them an irreplaceable artifact Maulder did get some of their special rats out into the city, but they didn't get nearly as many as they wanted, so there weren't as many of them as there could have been And without gotrek and felix rallying the townsfolk, a lot more nobles would have died, and that one idiot would have continued supplying the skaven with warpstone because skaven are definitely better than beging mutants.
@@anna-flora999 sorry, I think I didn't made my point clear enough. I was saying that even despite their failure and squabble, skaven are still capable of causing catastrophic damage, and that suppressing the truth about them was fairly big reason why things went as far as they did.
I love how just as Titus has become the unofficial face of space marines and especially the Ultramarines over in 40k, Victor Saltzpyre has become of unofficial face of the witch hunters in Fantasy despite both being relatively recent additions to canon after being around eight to ten years, being from video games not books, tabletop, or lore, and sometimes their mere existence conflicting with canon.

Matthias Thulman in the witch hunter books is great. It’s fun how honest he is. Just a genuine witch hunter who has faith in Sigmar and wants to do the right thing while still having the flaw of holding himself over the average person. Along with his surely body guard it was a fun series. The last book ends abruptly tho
Probably should have mentioned the Order of Azyr... the Witchhunters successors in AoS. They don't get a lot of lore but they have a pretty important part in it, protecting Azyr and the Free Cities from the influence of the Chaos Powers. They also get a good amount of models for a very minor faction.
Burgermeister is German for what is loosely a town mayor. Burg = town. Meister = master. So yea, noble was pretty spot on. It’s also a fast food chain in Berlin :)
That message during the bit about Matthias Thulmann was promising. I know it's not much, but as some one whose body is also trying to (word removed for AUP) them, the well wishes for a tomorrow that's not full of pain was heart warming. Thank you, Colin, not just for being a great entertainer, but being supportive as well
I think Cubicle 7 brought back Solkan recently in WFRP 4e. They act like Witch hunters, but in Tilea and Estlia rather than the Empire, and they look more like Roman Mystery cults than 16th-century Puritans.
Burgomeister = Bürgermeister = Mayor. So yeah, minor nobility. Also it just occurred to me that Mordheim literally translates to "Murder-home". Feels appropriate.
We like to credit "CA" but I'm willing to bet it was really just 1 or 2 really great writers back in the day who made all the fun lore and products. And never got credit.
29:35 Some of the more recent maps in V2 apparently take place after the end times I heard. And the Ubersreik 5, 4, doesn't matter. Are all still alive and well.
At 28:33: "Burgomeister" is an archaic germanic loanword essentially meaning "mayor" that still exists today as "Bürgermeister", literally translated as "citizen master". Not sure if that would've automatically made him nobility, however. Probably.
Ur little message was so wholesome, I was just listening but did read Ur text, I hope Ur pancreas does work, in the politest and best way Ur like a majorkill met a Luetin, and do fill an important place in the Warhammer fandom on UA-cam, much love from the UK
Witch Hunters: our favourite main characters. Their whole esthetic: with their hats, and rapiers and crossbows. Though I love Warhammer, I still learned quite a bit about the lore from this video. Thank you!
I do love that as part of the foreword to the trilogy, the authors outlined that Thulmann was supposed to be an absolute bastard with such a strict moral code he is only held back by his own steadfast character... and he's one of the more (if not the most) reasonable witch hunter adjacent character you get to read about in the old world. Plus, he actually does what he does out of need to prevent evil, not to do good, or "do good in the eyes of the cult". I'm sad there is only the old trilogy showing him off, but I'm also glad that he got such an excellent showing in those books. And I hope you have a good day as well. ^^

And Orcish Society is a little different to Orkish society, in that Goblins and their roles are more focused on and there isn't the defined Klanz of 40k in exchange for each Warband being a bit different, as well as the mutters of the Noght Goblins and Savage Orcs as well as the Elite Black Orcs.
Holy Sigmar, bless this ravaged body!

Holy Sigmar, ravage this blessed body!
Tweaking out because I finally found a pancreas video on the same day it came out literally foaming at the mouth for content
Sir, a second comet has struck the realm
[sighs] Where did it land *this* time and how big of army do I need to rally to deal with the problem?
Witch Hunter: I kill people and countrymen to keep the silence about Skaven.
Inquisitor: Oh my God-Emperor, that is just like me. But I do it with daemons.
Witch Hunter: As do I. Sometimes.
Inquisitor: Do you also have flagellants?
Witch Hunter: Oh, yes I do ~
Slaanesh: Now kiss!
Both: DIE YOU FOUL DEMON!!!!!
Bah, Sigmarites are clearly heathen-enablers who let the cults of half a dozen gods like "Ulric" or "Shallya" (all clearly demons in disguise) just live in their empire without being burned alive, not to mention an entire country infested with Eldar-worshipers on their western border

saltpyre may genuinely may be one of the order's best witch hunters in centuries. he was able to stalk kerillian, an elite waystalker without getting detected in one of taal's keep idle talks. that alone makes him on the better end of stealth
Dude went one on one with a vampire (and not a just turned pup, mind you) and won at some point in his career. That's pretty fucking hardcore.
Since pistols in the modern empire are typically single fire, I like to imagine a very devoted Witch Hunter would pull a Saejima and carry a rank’s worth of pistols.
I now really wanna draw this mental image.
Saltpyre basically does that, his reload animation for them is him just replacing the guns he fires
@@markhirsch6301yes, it’s verry silly
@@wolffrdu6463*very based
@@PowerfulSkeleton no, silly, because he has like, a whole tabletop's regiment worth of pistol on him, even by warhammer logic, he should be crush by the weight, tough maybe his capacity to use magic, even if holly might do that ?
Take a look at the Vermintide 1 intro cinematic. He's got at least like a dozen flintlock pistols under that coat.

HOLY SIGMAR, BLESS THIS RAVAGED PANCREAS
Victor Saltzpre deserves to be reforged as a Stormcast Eternal.
Yeah, honestly
Or just SURVIVE THROUGH
He’d definitely be a Lord-Veritant
This implies that you think the Chaos gods can kill him in the first place. They cannot.
If there will never be a Vermintide 3 with that exact premise then what is even the point of life itself?
I clicked so fast on this the Inquisition is saying they weren't expecting me!
“No one expects the Sigmar Inquisition!”
For those who are interested in books about Witch Hunters, there are the Robert E Howard stories about Solomon Kane, who was the inspiration for the Witch Hunters in Warhammer Fantasy. And in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar there are a few books featuring Witch Hunter Hanniver Toll.
An order of Solomon Kanes founded by direct order of Conan the Barbarian.
26:58 I know that pain. In my first warhammer set, the Blood Angel Starter set I was missing two bases. Somehow in a Tactical Squad box set it came with two extra bases. But now I have a ton of spares bases here and there.
32:13 THEY CALL HIM THE WHAT???
And it lost them an irreplaceable artifact
Maulder did get some of their special rats out into the city, but they didn't get nearly as many as they wanted, so there weren't as many of them as there could have been
And without gotrek and felix rallying the townsfolk, a lot more nobles would have died, and that one idiot would have continued supplying the skaven with warpstone because skaven are definitely better than beging mutants.
I’m glad you found the bases, Settra be praised!

"Our final witch hunter, Diederick Kastner" - 🤨
"Also known as, Archaon the Everchosen" - 😱
Buergermeister or Bürgermeister means mayor of a city or village.
Just wanted to say as someone who very recently got into Warhammer 40k Rouge Trader (me & my bro's 1st warhammer game ever) I've really loved your lore videos! You make them very digestable for noobs and even though i still don't understand some things you do an awesome job explaining things! It was an instant subscribe from me keep it up 😊
Suddenly I need an open world Warhammer witch hunter game similar to the Witcher and Skyrim
So I’ve been staring at the Witch Hunter thumbnail for 10 minutes and I just can’t get the thought of “If Steve Buscemi were part of Fantasy”
SIGMAR BLESS THIS RAVAGED BODY!

I'm so happy that like 90% of the comments are just about the GOAT.
Stiiiiiiill waiting on that Thanquol video.
Perfect timing now I can listen to something decent during night shift 🫡
That message during the bit about Matthias Thulmann was promising. I know it's not much, but as some one whose body is also trying to (word removed for AUP) them, the well wishes for a tomorrow that's not full of pain was heart warming. Thank you, Colin, not just for being a great entertainer, but being supportive as well
Witch hunters are so effective that Sigmar brought them into the Age of Sigmar universe

I think Cubicle 7 brought back Solkan recently in WFRP 4e. They act like Witch hunters, but in Tilea and Estlia rather than the Empire, and they look more like Roman Mystery cults than 16th-century Puritans.
28:35 burgermeister translates to mayor if I remember correctly
Burgomeister = Bürgermeister = Mayor.
So yeah, minor nobility.
Also it just occurred to me that Mordheim literally translates to "Murder-home". Feels appropriate.
Not necessarily minor nobility. Town mayors were frequently just straight-up elected or assigned officials.
We like to credit "CA" but I'm willing to bet it was really just 1 or 2 really great writers back in the day who made all the fun lore and products. And never got credit.
Thank you!
Having a pretty chill day. Wishing you the best too!
And thanks for the videos!
29:35 Some of the more recent maps in V2 apparently take place after the end times I heard. And the Ubersreik 5, 4, doesn't matter. Are all still alive and well.

The Nobel which title your tonque can't comprehend was a Mayor
Thank you for that message at 26:00, Pancreas. Home life has kinda sucked as of late and suddenly reading that out of nowhere hit me in the feels.
At 28:33: "Burgomeister" is an archaic germanic loanword essentially meaning "mayor" that still exists today as "Bürgermeister", literally translated as "citizen master". Not sure if that would've automatically made him nobility, however. Probably.

A Burgomeister is somewhat like a Mayor. The master of a Borough.
It's from HRE era Germany, perhaps before.
Bürgermeister is German for Mayor.
Bürger = Citizen, Meister = Master.

Witch Hunters: our favourite main characters. Their whole esthetic: with their hats, and rapiers and crossbows. Though I love Warhammer, I still learned quite a bit about the lore from this video. Thank you!
I am glad you found the bases, I hope you're having a great day too - and if not, tomorrow will be better for sure.
This channel single handedly got me into WHF and now I wish I could have been around during the glory days.
I like you channel, because is the only place were i finaly can see the lore of Warhammer fantasy
