I always loved the Elites gaining a respect of humanity during the war **Spartan triple backflips over a hunter over a Hunter and blows the creature up, surfing a jackal down a hillside** **Elites clap, nod and wort wort appreciatively**
Elites: "Hold on, these Humans are kind based, why can't they join us again?" Prophet of Truth: "Well, you see... The funny thing is... Bleh!" *Betrays and tries to genocide your entire species.*
I also remember reading that an Elite actually had Heretical thoughts that maybe Humanity shouldn’t be wiped out. He marveled that even though the species was severely outnumbered and overpowered by the might and technological advances of the literal All Of The Covenant Somehow, humanity managed to stay in the fight as long as they have. Sure. He took into account of the separate and multiple feats the Demons constantly seemed to pull out of their ass. But he marveled at the shear tenacity that Humanity has constantly thrown against the Covenant… But these thoughts were fleeting as he commanded his ship to participate in glassing one of the worlds.
Got to also love that the Elites prior to the Schism actually did question why the Prophets didn't invite humanity to the Covenant prior to invading as a direct breach of tradition after seeing humans fight and earn respect on the battlefield. "Hey, this species of super skinny and furless Brutes is super tenacious with a strong emphasis on moral traditional values that we also uphold. Were we just not informed of them rejecting an invitation to the Covenant or something?" And then upon seeing that it was only a matter of time before the Elites put 2 and 2 together since they're not idiots, the Prophets attempted the Schism. And they did not pull it off nearly as well as they wanted to because the Elites earned their moniker for a good reason.
Me and my friends always played Halo in lunch breaks from school and after school. Witnessing that moment was when I went from liking the game to being a fan.
Fun fact, I think it was Hidden Xperia that did a vieo on it, but that's because the Brutes had, quite literally, JUST gotten control of the ships. Elites had been piloting and commanding Covenant ships for hundreds of years, and Brutes had gotten control of them near literally a week and a half prior. They outmaneuvered the Brutes in every single way imaginable, only really having to worry about any ship that a prophet was on.
Ever wonder why Shipmaster Rtas uses a Carrier as his flagship? It's because this is the only class of vessel with a high enough thrust-to-weight ratio to ferry his massive Sangheili balls around the galaxy.
@@martinnavarrete5279He prefers the mobility and flexibility of the CAS. The CSO is a status statement and mobile shrine rather than a warship Rtas is a warrior. His vessel is as much as blade as he is
(Star wars yuuzhan vs halo) Elite: DEMON!!! vong: HERETIC!!! (vong in star trek ) Borg: Resistance is futile Vong: ABOMINABLE INTELLIGENCE!!! Imperium of man: STOP STEALING MY RACISM AND MY LINES!!!!
For the record the books and other non visual media actually describe female elites as slightly shorter and paler but otherwise basically the same as males.
Dude the elite battle creed is so cool. Theres a marine i. The books who managed to kill an elite with his own sword. He lost and arm but he got the sword. And he kept it. He mentions this to an elite after the events of halo 3. The elite actually laughed and said the man can keep the sword as he earned it in battle.
When I played Halo 2's story for the first time, I was worried Sangheli npc teammates wouldn't be as charming as UNSC humans. Then one ran in front of my Banshee, breaking his shield and wailing "Too much! Even for an Elite!" Dumbassery transcends species. Love the macho lizard men.
I remember when this man said an elite would give crazy sloppy toppy. It was simpler times before I heard that. I had faith in humanity back then. Edit: Someone corrected me. He said it about the Gravemind not the Elites. Somehow that's worse. Not because it's more gross, but because logically, he is objectively correct. The flood would just have to absorb one absolute FREAK and boom. Glug glug capabilities unlocked. I hate the internet.
Considering Spartans are barely in the weight class of Astartes, I think Astartes would cut through Elites like butter since Spartans cut through elites like butter usually.
As a Latin American, this is 100% true no 🧢 This began in Halo CE where one of the audio lines for Elites sounds like they're saying "Pozole," which for those that don't know is a very cultural soup with beans, grain, and beef in it.
Major Elite: Brute ships! Staggered line! Ship Master, they outnumber us, three to one! Rtas 'Vadum: Then it is an even fight. All cruisers fire at will. Burn their mongrel hides!
Halo is my comfort fiction, i grew up with it and never separated from it, every other interest comes and goes, sometimes i go a few months without battletech or 40k, halo is on my mind literally every week like the roman empire.
I still believe that 343 Industries should've had the Arbiter be the main character for Halo 4, 5 and 6. The elites were dealing with a lot of stuff after the war, and seeing all of it through the eyes of the Arbiter as he tries to solve problems would've been great! Not to mention all of the story threads that could be used; like how the other alien species are handling the fall of the Covenant, splinter groups who still believe in the ideals of the Covenant, and/or Forerunner technology attacking the elites because the Halo rings were destroyed. 343 Industries could've added playable Spartans in the campaign of Halo 5, just like how Bungie added playable elites in Halo 2.
@@shcdemolisher Aahhh, but don't you know? According to 343, Halo is a "Spartan Story". Rebrand all they want but that won't change who's running the show, and if those people wanted to give the aliens a fair shot they would have done it by now -- it's been ages.
The 'humans are special' trope is overplayed, and yet, it is a cliche for a reason. We all want to believe we won't be background characters on the galactic stage when we get there.
It’s a fun thought trying to consider what kind of dumb shit aliens would create like video games, comics, lava lamps, porn, and whatever else. Humans may not be all that special relative to other aliens but the crap we produce would probably be at least a little. Or maybe not, and the kind of intelligence that gets you to space is so specific that every alien has HBO and theme parks and all that
@@ChristionH Well worst comes to worst, there's a fair chance humans would be considered living bioweapon bombs because of the way our bodies cultivate massive bacteria colonies (intentionally. Even on Earth we are the only species to do this) in our gut and then spread it around without caring or noticing. A few other things that make humans highly unique on Earth; we're the best at regenerating lost stamina out of all land mammals (humans racing horses can reliably out-distance them every time), we're the best at throwing things long distance (gorillas have substantially stronger muscles but can't throw even half or a third as far as humans), and we're really really good adapting to every environment (intelligence and invention plays a role, but there is something to be said for having a body than can; dive deep underwater, climb sheer cliffs, forge through heavy snow, sprint over rough and uneven terrain, and respirate at every altitude, which a lot of people overlook, and most of all our 1-of-a-kind bacteria factory guts allow us to eat basically anything on the planet. Lots of mammals die when they eat chocolate, so do most birds, but humans call it a delicacy, and the same is true of many other foods. Also our potential lifespan dwarfs almost every other mammal by a huge, huge margin, and again this is before tech) Human intelligence didn't make us apex predators, we had the opportunity to become intelligent because _we already were apex predators_ . So at least on Earth, humans really are just evolution's magnum opus in half a dozen varieties. Here's hoping that means something out in the beyond.
I love the Sangheili. If Necrons haven’t taken the “Number One Alien” spot, they would be there. Also at some point, I would like to pick your brain on why you like the 343 lore.
I'll be the first to admit it, out of all the various alien races in fiction, if I could choose one to select a spouse from: it'd be the Sangheli They're space dinosaur samurai, and I would gladly let one sling me over their shoulder and declare us married. Halo 2 was my first Halo and since I was the younger brother, I was always the Arbiter when we played Halo 3, this is a totally logical thought process.
After Thel destroyed so many human colony planets (not even considering what the rest of the Covenant did), Grey Team nuking a Sangheli planet and Infinity Shooting a MAC round into Sanghelios after the war must've led to a few humans being like; "Heh. Deserved."
If i remember correctly, the Elites that found out Grey Team did it essentially went "i don't blame you, but don't let it happen again please" with a bit more aggression
@@johndunn1625 In Halo Envoy, the elites who found them kept them in cyro sleep until they could figure out how they wanted to punish them. It wasn't until Gray Team escaped and saved their asses from the brutes that they were like "ok, we'll give you a pardon 😑".
I feel like I would've survived Reach. This isn’t a joke. You always hear about those 1 in a million odds where people drive off a cliff and had 0.0000001% chance to survive but they miraculously did. Well I feel like I’m that guy. There’s no real stats to back this up, I just know I’ve always been built different. Perhaps I would've found a small cave to take shelter in from the glassing. Or I escape just in time by piloting a small ship through the Covenant fleet before they could spot me. In other words, I just feel like my odds, personally, would’ve been different.
I like the banished on paper but they definitely need more development A strong group of covenant dissidents united by their dedication to never bow down to anyone going so far as to attempt to settle on a halo ring so that the galaxy will never subjugate them again Infinite wasn’t bad but it definitely would’ve benefited from further differentiating them from the covenant
Also I don’t think they need to be a galactic threat it’d be more interesting to see the war between the banished and UNSC being relatively even much like the fight on the ark, resources are limited so they have to be smart opportunistic only massing when they can guarantee results
@@hedgehog3528 I 100% agree to this. I just think the Banished don't have a reason to really try to overthrow the UNSC or anything, so it lacks sense.
@@zombiedalekweck2243 They were better as really persistent space pirates that nobody can really deal with. Being a constant thorn in everyone's side, and perhaps have them only be pushed to the backburner by humanity and the sangheili once a bigger problem arises
@@hedgehog3528 Just keeping them as space pirates would work if they tweaked things a bit. Like things are a bit wonky because of the Forerunner nonsense from the previous game and now a decently sized Covenant splinter group who just wants to pillage is running roughshod over the fringes while the UNSC and Elites are still reeling from the Human-Covenant War and the Forerunner nonsense. Infinity is now cutoff and needs resupply so they end up duking it out over the Ark for its resources with the Banished who is a peer/ slightly stronger foe now due to circumstance and Infinity's more limited presence. Or just keep them a Halo Wars 2 opponent where them being a massive threat makes sense since their opponent is the Spirit of Fire who's an old cut off ship deep behind enemy lines, where even any amount of Covenant splinter group is a major threat. So basically the Banished don't have any Conquest aims and are more of a peer, but play up that this is a unique situation where they are harder to fight because they are pirates and aren't bound to locations and fronts the way the Covenant are. More like trying to clear a pest infestation that a war where the enemy can be anywhere in the shadows.
Grey Team nuking that planet because they didn't knew the war was over is basically like that Japanese soldier who hid in the jungle for years because the news of war being over didn't reach him. Far more explosive and bloody, but this reminds me of that irl story
I’ve always loved the world building of Halo. Especially pre-343 era writing. The Elites and the Covenant are my favourite fictional culture, right next to the Klingons depending on how I feel that day. When the topic of what other fractions would suit 40K, the Covenant almost inevitably come up. In my opinion, if they were to be in the same universe, they would be perfect as a major power during the Great Crusade 30K era. The idea of a hyper religious alien empire encountering the nascent Imperium while it is still atheistic would be interesting. Especially as they mirror so much of what the Imperium would become. Anyway, it’s always good fun to hear someone passionate about Halo talk about the Elites. It was so refreshing to have aliens in a video game that weren’t one note evil cannon fodder.
I don't even mind 343 era writing, like at least the ideas and whatnot, they just execute so poorly and more frequently than they don't as well that it just sucks in the end especially for the mainline stuff that's gonna be in the average Halo fan's face.
0:15 who is saying this? because throughout 99% of fiction the real advantage of humanity is our grit or the cringe human heart or will whatever you wanna say
I support Humanity because I'm human. Anything else is advocating genocide for every group of humans that do or might ever exist. If you don't then with all the love you have depression my brother/other. Get the help you need.
The Elites are fucking badasses and the one in the thumbnail is my favorite, Ripa Moramee. The Arbiter from Halo Wars 1, a former prisoner, total savage, ruthless to both enemy and incompetent allies alike. To the point that he actually pulled an Energy Sword in the presence of a Hierarch (the Prophet of Regret) which is said to demand blood before it can be stowed despite being in the presence of a shitload of Elite Honor Guards.
The honour is in victory not in how you fight. Remember Samurai immediately adopted muskets when the Europeans introduced them, and the Elites use active camo tech, they aren't above being sneaky.
Elites have a very Nietzschean sense of "honor" where only might makes right. As long as they win, they get to decide what constitutes "honorable behavior". Human honor, at least in the modern western sense, is superior since it's actually grounded in objective principles. So even if those principles aren't always followed, there is a precedent to hold dishonorable people accountable.
The elites are my favorite THING. Not aliens, not faction, not in fiction or in gaming, they're my number 1 ranked thing amongst EVERYTHING that stands within fiction and reality. They have competition, but they are rank 1.
The Nova Bomb is nine Nuclear Warheads encased in lithium triteride armor and space magic. It's basically exterminatus in a relatively small package. And here is a fun fact ..... The Nova Bomb was originally intended for use against the Covenant in space. Yeah this thing was intended to wipe out fleets. As to Gray team what they did not being considered a war crime because the war was over . Maybe but destroying a planet of billions would be considered an act of terrorism and/or an act of war by the UNSC against the Sangheili. The real reason they didn't go to war again, likely has less to do with you shouldn't throw rocks from a glass house and more to do with the fact that the UNSC was in a better position than the Sangheili militarily speaking.
“ We shall cut into the heart of this infestation , retrieve the sacred icon and burn any flood that stand in our way !!!” One of the most badass none human speeches in all of science fiction.
The crazy thing is... the Sangheili have all these feats going for them... and I don't believe any of them have undergone any super soldier programs like the spartans. They're just built better.
Exactly, they don't need super soldiers their species is already exceptionally powerful. Your average Sangheili is 8'6 and physically stronger than any Spartan. They're capable of matching or outright out pacing Spartan IIs at Major ranks and above. With their super ELITE units like the advanced spec ops Elites effortlessly dodging bullets fired by, and ragdolling, Spartan III Head Hunters. These Spartan III were specifically chosen for their lethality and high success rate. They're ELITE even by Spartan II standards. That's absolutely insane!! If Halo had better writers they could do some cool stuff with Elites, Spartans, and Brutes. Even jackals and Skirmishers are capable of crazy things
@@droneant7602 your average Elite easily decimates 5 Marines. They're called "Elite" for a reason. It's purple for the same reason Roman stuff was red. It's a fear thing - their blood is purple, it's a colour that invokes the same emotions in them as red does in us.
As an 8 year old, the story of the Elites in Halo 2 was a dramatic awakening. I played CE at 5 (thanks older bro) & always felt bad about killing the Covenant - they were so cool, surely they could be reasoned with. & along comes Halo 2 to answer my prayers. Baby's first redemption arc, introduced me to a new depth of storytelling
I can't believe you made a video about the Elites and didn't talk about the names of their ships. Truth and Reconciliation might be a basic name for Halo, but that's such a baller of a name.
I really like that the different Elite designs in the games are all canon, as you said it's a good way to account for reality but also give them more depth. I don't mind when stories have alien races 'all be a certain way' as long as it's done well, I mean Proud Warrior Race Guys trace their linage back to the lovable Klingons, and Star Trek was built on that. It's just nice when we get more, and as a wannabe creative I especially admire that sort of trickery that serves dual purposes.
The Arbiter (the status/characters that hold it) are my favorite things from the Halo universe. The legends arbiter is an absolute unit and Ripa was a war criminal given a position of power, basically used as a Hound by the prophets and that's why he's so brutal
1:45 let me hit you with greater facts. Mussels, $2.50 from Lidl per box, comes with 25-35 mussels, 29+ grams of protein, 230 calories, more easily absorbed by your body as it’s lean, also full of nutrients that are healthy for you in a plethora of ways.
I would very sfrongly advise against regularly consuming large quantities of seafood, unless you fancy mercury poisoning. If you absolutely need high concentration protein, because youbare suffering from chronic muscle atrophy, eat medically approved protein powder, otherwise dont bother with trying ro calculate a meal. Yojr body knlws what jt needs, and so long as what you eat doesnt keep longer than a week without freezing it, its probably at least mostly isnt made of plastic.
@@egoalter1276 it’s safe to eat mussels two times a week, according to a number of sources which is one reason I like it. It’s also packed full of healthy nutrients, zinc being one. Whole point of my comment though was you can eat healthy and clean food for pretty affordable prices which are low in calories but nutrient dense instead of eating a peanut bar with 250 calories (1/8th the average daily calorie count.) If you’re trying to lose weight and maintain muscle the foods sponsored in this vid are not the best way. I personally have a hard time figuring out how to eat the amount of protein recommended for someone who exercises regularly (for me would be 100-160 grams.) and not go above 1500 calories and not be negatively impacting muscle gains. I’ve found eating 2 pieces of whole grain toast with honey goat cheese, for example, puts me at 14 grams protein and 240 calories. Then you need vegetables, fruits, protein. Chicken is a good one as is turkey, can get a rotisserie chicken whole for $5 from Costco or Sam’s club. That’s enough for 2-3 days and getting high protein low calories. Anyways, I’m for eating for a budget but trying to fill needs and still meet goals.
32:03 It's good to note that in the cinematic which accompanies this tidbit, a marine is shown hurriedly grabbing a gun out of his locker, upon which he is *immediately* stabbed in the back by a still cloaked Elite. So "armed themselves" is clearly interpreted as less of a "we'll wait till you're ready" situation and more of a "PICK IT UP MOTHERFUCKER!".
correction on the translation of Sangheili, their common name doesn’t translate to ‘I glorify my kin’, that’s the translation of their species name, *Macto cognatus*
I liked how 343 showed other races from the Covenant like Grunts, Hunters, and Jackals joining different splinter groups like Jul Mdama, the Swords of Sanghelios, or even going out on their own far more like the dead Jackal pirates we find in the second mission of Halo 5
I love this video, I'm one of the biggest Elite advocate out there! And I also understand not liking the banished I feel like they could be different if fleshed out more. I personally enjoy them just due to the Pirate thing they are known for.
can't get enough of the 11ft beast that was Xytan 'Jar Wattinree, perhaps the most powerful elite in the Covenant pre halo 2. Also love Ripa Moramee as his savage nature contradicts with the station of Arbiter really well and makes me wonder what exactly he did to earn the rank of shame.
You’re wrong on the female elite point. The animators of the dual heavily stylized the elites appearance. The males mouths were also able to merge witch they can’t do. It’s been confirmed Hans physical appearance is none canon. Look up Tul’Juran she’s what a female elite also looks like. You’re also right on the elite armor kind of working like Mjolnir but it’s a very weak boots confirmed to be less than half of their strength. Also the strongest elite strength feats was done by an elite out of armor so the elites are just insanely physically fit species. It’s actually ridiculous no normal human should every have a shot against even the weakest elite.
Was looking for a comment like this. Sexual dimorphism is small between males and females with females only being slightly smaller on average. Apparently they're also described as smelling like clean feathers while males have a more leathery scent to them.
@@elijahnajera5425okay I need to know what book gave us what they smell like?! From all the books I've seen/listened to that's a new one. I'm going to guess it's something from Doctor Luther Mann

lovely video (as usual for your halo stuff) but You did miss two notable characters Xytan Jar'Wattrinee (probably misspelt) the Elite so tall he'd make atriox look small. Xytan held immense power and had a similar situation to the powerful elites you mentioned. He was atomised by a nova bomb and I believe his successor went onto to try and contest power post covenant war And Stolt, a very interesting grunt, standing much taller than most grunts and being proficient enough in combat to consistently fight Elites and win (and a Spartan at one point). He serves as lieutenant to the Halfjaw aboard the Shadow of Intent, having earned the respact of the vee (and is the only non elite stationed on that ship!), he's in the Shadow of Intent book if anyone wants to read about him
Came here to provide some specifics on the War of Beginnings for those who desire further knowledge. The first world the San'shyuum landed on was Ulgethon. The San'shyuum had obliterated it with the Dreadnought. It was actually a lot closer by the time the Writ was formed. The San'shyuum had discovered the location of Sanghelios and attempted to destroy it. Unfortunately, they were met by the ancient Sangheili's newly created Forerunner-derived weapons, shooting it down and held it in place upon Suban with gravity anchors. They had gotten so far as to breach the ship and threaten the lives of all the San'shyuum onboard. The war truly was closer than expected and no doubt both sides were immensely devastated from it. And I'd believe this was most likely why the anti-Covenant sentiment seemed prevalent during the first year of the Writ. A lot of Sangheili who believed that the Writ was a "surrender" had been systematically eliminated by the newly anointed Covenant Forces. Ussa Xellus was one of the largest proponents of this anti-Covenant movement and as Kaidon of the state of Xellus, the Covenant threatened to wipe out their state leading to Ussa and his people's eventual retreat to the Refuge. Funny enough the Ussans ended up outliving the Covenant (admittedly barely) meaning there are some Sangheili who never came under Covenant influence.
I know its just because the actual names hadn't been made yet, but I always double take a bit when I hear the covenant referring to themselves by the monikers given to them by humanity
I always just chalk it up to a JRR Tolkien like effect of translating their speech into English. I'm sure that in the original tongue they're using, the species are using species appropriate names, but when translating it's best to just use the name everyone knows. Like how a guy from Germany will say he's German even though in his mother tongue he is Deutsche.
Hey Pancreas great video as always. With your halo crossover videos making a point of how overpowered the Warhammer universe is, it got me thinking of other Mythos besides Halo that might fit. If you are familiar, what do you think of the races from the Stargate mythos and how they would do? I think the Necrons or Empire reacting to a replicator infestion would be very entertaining! Love supporting the content, take care.
As a long time fan of Sci-fi, I've never believed humanity are "the best at anything and everything", I always followed the thought "Humans are the best because we are the most versatile and adaptable." Sure, the sangheili are probably man for alien superior warriors to us, but they suck at basically anything not directly related to fighting. Their tech? From the prophets. Their food production? Medieval at best. And so on. I love the sangheili as warriors, but gosh darn it if they weren't absurdly reliant on the prophets for pretty much everything. If it weren't for 343 I would love to see more of them learning how to get by without the prophets giving them stuff they need. Heck, it'd be interesting to see an elite faction say "screw that religion stuff, we need to do what those *humans* are doing and actually study forerunner tech for ourselves to try and get a leg up on the competition."
If Karen Traviss has 1000 haters, I’m one of them If Karen Traviss has 100 haters, I’m one of them If Karen Traviss has 50 haters, I’m one of them If Karen Traviss has 1 hater, It’s me If Karen Traviss has no haters, It means I am dead If the world is with Karen Traviss, then I am against the world If the world is against Karen Traviss, then I am with the world.
I think the humanity is the best at anything and everything in sci fi works best when humanity becomes more of a eldritch horror the rest of the universe fears.
@@rdogg114 That is a good point, it feels more like a "this is our final form" and so works well as the natural progression from being "the best at nothing, but good at everything".
That is true in the Halo Universe. Jack of all trades. Prophets are intelligent, but I cannot see one in a fight winning except if yiu sueprsoldier them. Brutes are barbaric but too violent to start their own interstellar society. Hunters are worms I guess. Needs a lot of worms to even make a conscious being. Jackals are trades and smugglers, thus disliked by every toher species Grunts are well, actually what are the weaknesses of gruntd besides being severely weak for a single person?
Hunters next! They have less lore overall but I adore those wormy-bastards, the fact that they just make huge vibrations to mimic speech is so interesting
One of the things we have to thank the Halo show for is showing the strength of the Elites in some action scenes. A 1v1 Elite VS Spartan match will always end in victory for the Spartan, but the first misstep a Spartan makes in battle, the Elites will notice and make him pay for it. I say this mainly because of the scene of an Elite Minor throwing Mastercheeks away on the first mistake in battle (Mastercheeks being a guy who weighs over half a ton in armor, much like the weight of a Space Marine in Maximus armor)
@@diegocardenas6494 Yes. A Spartan would never let an Elite throw him away, and if an Elite had the opportunity to do so, he would use the opportunity to kill the Spartan outright with a single strike to a vital point.
In regards to the opening statement, keep in mind that humanity put up such a fight that the Elites began to question why they were not being asimilated into the covenant. This was one of the reasons for the civil war.
So what? The Sangheili and their Covenant were overwhelming regardless. The Elites respected humanities grit and will to survive. Not their combative prowess. UNSC had some decent tactics and strategic geniuses like the Covenant but they still got slaughtered across all fronts because of the Elites
One of my favorite Halo/40K memes is the UNSC and Tau being made as crying Soyjaks because they have philosophical differences and then the elites and space marines are just staring at each other like this SM: “Our God said you’re heretics and need to die” Elites: “So did ours”
I have no idea if it's true or not, but I've heard the idea that every ship is considered a piece of art, and no two are exactly alike, which if true i love so much.
You know, on your point about Elite honor and how it isn't stupid unlike a lot of other sci-fi honor codes. In real life, Samurai were: -Masters of both brush and sword -Highly capable tacticians -Skilled in swordsmanship but valued ranged warfare -Actively employed new technology like artillery and guns -Oftentimes were hired as ninjas -Not shy of using underhanded strategies so long as it achieved them victory -Gave reluctant respect to foreigners that proved themselves, and gave them titles and honors The Sangheili are just alien space samurai. I love them even more.
Glad you mentioned that bit on Honor. So many people have misconceptions about it due to media and pop culture. In real life, throughout history, honor was never about respecting weird standards and codes of conduct on a battlefield. It was more about having the courage to stand against an enemy and fight for your people, lord, family, etc. On a battlefield, there really aren't any rules. And I doubt anyone here would have such principled moral attitudes towards war once the bombs and bullets start flying at them and their friends. Now think of all those romanticised honor bound warriors from various historical cultures. Samurai were horse archers and you bet once they got their hands on guns they used them. No qualms from most of em about how guns & bows are dishonorable. Same thing goes for knights, but they were heavy shock cav nor Horse archers. . . But cavalry on medieval battlefields were generally used to flank and charge into the ass of the enemy. Never cried about how that was dishonorable. And yes, all those massive head on cav charges in the movies. . . Didnt happen

It is easy to hate things, it is harder to actually stop and think about things. In Mass Effect, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. There are rare inherently bad species, even in Star Wars where the Vong and dark side force creatures, most of the species you see vary on how bad or good an individual is. The Borg and the Reapers are more robots than species when compared to a species like tue Vong

Not even a minute in and i mostly agree. However, Humans are definitely(generally) the bravest though. The sangheili are bigger, stronger, faster, smarter(or at least as smart), and have better tech. They outclass humanity in every way. Hard to be brave when your opponents are so far beneath you Then again, it is easy to prove your bravery when your opponents are so far above (as humanities opponents so often are in Sci-Fi)
The Elites still faced humanities greatest efforts head on on a personal level. They were the tip of the spear and were always out numbered. And on the rare occasion where human forces took out Elites the Elites were always last to die and left many dead before they dropped. They were also always itching for a chance to fight and kill the fabled Spartan supersoldiers That's pretty brave.
@@blueguy2128 The elites also glassed planets, used active camo, and had energy shields while the grand majority of UNSC troops just had a plate of armor. Bravery goes to Humanity, they were punching way above their weight.
@redaug4212 ok i concede. They're definitely brave for facing a powerful enemy. Tho Elites still fought wars like anybody else. Camouflage isn't exclusive to them. And neither are equivalents to glassing like nukes or UNSC plasma torpedoe equivalents the MACs.

**Elites clap, nod and wort wort appreciatively**
Elites: "Hold on, these Humans are kind based, why can't they join us again?"
Prophet of Truth: "Well, you see... The funny thing is... Bleh!" *Betrays and tries to genocide your entire species.*
Chief: Blows up a Scarab
Arbie: Still only counts as one!
I also remember reading that an Elite actually had Heretical thoughts that maybe Humanity shouldn’t be wiped out.
He marveled that even though the species was severely outnumbered and overpowered by the might and technological advances of the literal All Of The Covenant
Somehow, humanity managed to stay in the fight as long as they have.
Sure. He took into account of the separate and multiple feats the Demons constantly seemed to pull out of their ass.
But he marveled at the shear tenacity that Humanity has constantly thrown against the Covenant…
But these thoughts were fleeting as he commanded his ship to participate in glassing one of the worlds.
@@shepardren8006It wasn't an uncommon thought among many Sangheili at the wars end.
Many of them went on to help found the Swords of Sangheilios
Got to also love that the Elites prior to the Schism actually did question why the Prophets didn't invite humanity to the Covenant prior to invading as a direct breach of tradition after seeing humans fight and earn respect on the battlefield.
"Hey, this species of super skinny and furless Brutes is super tenacious with a strong emphasis on moral traditional values that we also uphold. Were we just not informed of them rejecting an invitation to the Covenant or something?"
And then upon seeing that it was only a matter of time before the Elites put 2 and 2 together since they're not idiots, the Prophets attempted the Schism. And they did not pull it off nearly as well as they wanted to because the Elites earned their moniker for a good reason.
“Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three to one!”
“Then it is an even fight.”
Me and my friends always played Halo in lunch breaks from school and after school.
Witnessing that moment was when I went from liking the game to being a fan.
I love that the Elites consider battling the Brutes in space while outnumbered about as dangerous as fighting the UNSC.
That and the following "All cruisers, fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!" has got to be the hardest set of lines ever uttered in any cutscene.

This 👆
YEAH! And I do hope they take the chance with the rebranding to atone for those mistakes.
@@shcdemolisher Aahhh, but don't you know? According to 343, Halo is a "Spartan Story". Rebrand all they want but that won't change who's running the show, and if those people wanted to give the aliens a fair shot they would have done it by now -- it's been ages.
I certainly would love it if they did, in fact, give the former Covenant species a solid shot at the limelight but I just don't see it happening.

The Protoss from StarCraft would also respect the Sangheili as a warrior people given that they too are a warrior race.
The 'humans are special' trope is overplayed, and yet, it is a cliche for a reason. We all want to believe we won't be background characters on the galactic stage when we get there.
Humans are the best for one single reason: Our sheer, unbridled hornyness for anything.
With Jesus on our side, we won't need foreground characters.
Also our potential lifespan dwarfs almost every other mammal by a huge, huge margin, and again this is before tech)
Human intelligence didn't make us apex predators, we had the opportunity to become intelligent because _we already were apex predators_ .
So at least on Earth, humans really are just evolution's magnum opus in half a dozen varieties. Here's hoping that means something out in the beyond.

How they taste, tho? Is there any good seasoning?👀
Whole point of my comment though was you can eat healthy and clean food for pretty affordable prices which are low in calories but nutrient dense instead of eating a peanut bar with 250 calories (1/8th the average daily calorie count.)
If you’re trying to lose weight and maintain muscle the foods sponsored in this vid are not the best way.
That’s enough for 2-3 days and getting high protein low calories. correction on the translation of Sangheili, their common name doesn’t translate to ‘I glorify my kin’, that’s the translation of their species name, *Macto cognatus*
I liked how 343 showed other races from the Covenant like Grunts, Hunters, and Jackals joining different splinter groups like Jul Mdama, the Swords of Sanghelios, or even going out on their own far more like the dead Jackal pirates we find in the second mission of Halo 5
Isn’t it awesome that humanity is the best in every single way?
I love this video, I'm one of the biggest Elite advocate out there! And I also understand not liking the banished I feel like they could be different if fleshed out more. I personally enjoy them just due to the Pirate thing they are known for.
can't get enough of the 11ft beast that was Xytan 'Jar Wattinree, perhaps the most powerful elite in the Covenant pre halo 2. Also love Ripa Moramee as his savage nature contradicts with the station of Arbiter really well and makes me wonder what exactly he did to earn the rank of shame.
My favorite lore channel is back to talking about my favorite scifi universe, today is a good day!
Neither did we against mamoths and saber toothed cats and see where our species is now.
Was looking for a comment like this.
Sexual dimorphism is small between males and females with females only being slightly smaller on average. Apparently they're also described as smelling like clean feathers while males have a more leathery scent to them.
Thx, I was puzzled over the jaws for a long time
@@elijahnajera5425okay I need to know what book gave us what they smell like?! From all the books I've seen/listened to that's a new one. I'm going to guess it's something from Doctor Luther Mann
Pretty sure it's kilo 5 series when they're on the elite planet. Some cool moments but overall those books were terrible imo so you didn't miss much @@pathfinderpops9041
30:45 Mandalorians... Mandalorins have a very similar honor code. They will seek out the enemy's that give them the most problems. This is the best way to test yourself.
lovely video (as usual for your halo stuff) but
You did miss two notable characters
Xytan Jar'Wattrinee (probably misspelt) the Elite so tall he'd make atriox look small. Xytan held immense power and had a similar situation to the powerful elites you mentioned. He was atomised by a nova bomb and I believe his successor went onto to try and contest power post covenant war
And Stolt, a very interesting grunt, standing much taller than most grunts and being proficient enough in combat to consistently fight Elites and win (and a Spartan at one point). He serves as lieutenant to the Halfjaw aboard the Shadow of Intent, having earned the respact of the vee (and is the only non elite stationed on that ship!), he's in the Shadow of Intent book if anyone wants to read about him
Humans: Humanity first!
Sangheili: To die?
It does make sense, since well Elites are elites.
And Grunts are stupid enough to do it.
But yeah, I get what you mean.
The Sangheili have been my favorite, since I was a child. Thanks for this.
I always thought arbiter was cooler then chief
The Arbiter from Halo Wars 1 was just a thug. Nothing more.
Playlist moment
@ this truely is a bot moment like Jorge Jorge wells book, kelvin 154
That was 343i era trash.
If Karen Traviss has 1000 haters, I’m one of them
If Karen Traviss has 100 haters, I’m one of them
If Karen Traviss has 50 haters, I’m one of them
If Karen Traviss has 1 hater, It’s me
If Karen Traviss has no haters, It means I am dead
If the world is with Karen Traviss, then I am against the world
If the world is against Karen Traviss, then I am with the world.
Jackals are trades and smugglers, thus disliked by every toher species
Grunts are well, actually what are the weaknesses of gruntd besides being severely weak for a single person?
Hunters next! They have less lore overall but I adore those wormy-bastards, the fact that they just make huge vibrations to mimic speech is so interesting
I do like the lore that they can learn languages other than sanghile but simply don't see any others as worth learning.
18:14 I feel like they did the Banished fairly well on Halo wars 2, though yeah they definitely feel a bit Mary sue in Halo infinite lol
But does mastercheeks even count as a Spartan?
@diegocardenas6494 sort of
@@Neoth40k Meant that more as a joke considering the halo tv show but is there something that doesn't actually make him a spartan?
@@diegocardenas6494 Yes. A Spartan would never let an Elite throw him away, and if an Elite had the opportunity to do so, he would use the opportunity to kill the Spartan outright with a single strike to a vital point.
4:44 Under they control
In regards to the opening statement, keep in mind that humanity put up such a fight that the Elites began to question why they were not being asimilated into the covenant. This was one of the reasons for the civil war.
So what? The Sangheili and their Covenant were overwhelming regardless.
The Elites respected humanities grit and will to survive. Not their combative prowess.
UNSC had some decent tactics and strategic geniuses like the Covenant but they still got slaughtered across all fronts because of the Elites
I would LOVE to see ONI fuck around, and Chief and Arbiter make them find out.
One of my favorite Halo/40K memes is the UNSC and Tau being made as crying Soyjaks because they have philosophical differences and then the elites and space marines are just staring at each other like this
SM: “Our God said you’re heretics and need to die”
Elites: “So did ours”
While skirmishers are my favorite Covenant species, I have to admit that Elites are probably the best alien species in science fiction.
Always loved the 'Heretic' Elites or Sesa 'Refumee's Elites.
I have no idea if it's true or not, but I've heard the idea that every ship is considered a piece of art, and no two are exactly alike, which if true i love so much.
You know, on your point about Elite honor and how it isn't stupid unlike a lot of other sci-fi honor codes. In real life, Samurai were:
-Masters of both brush and sword
-Highly capable tacticians
-Skilled in swordsmanship but valued ranged warfare
-Actively employed new technology like artillery and guns
-Oftentimes were hired as ninjas
-Not shy of using underhanded strategies so long as it achieved them victory
-Gave reluctant respect to foreigners that proved themselves, and gave them titles and honors
The Sangheili are just alien space samurai.
Agreed sangheili are awesome the only alien I prefer are predators yautja an obvious inspiration
22:54 I think the trope is called *Rubber-Forehead Aliens.*
You did a really good job on this video. The Sangheili have always been one of my favorite races in fiction. Thanks for posting.
When the indomitable human spirit meets the indomitable double alien spirit: 😮☠️
0:05 HFY and humansarespaceorcs are neat in theory, in practice they tend to project a vision of future humanity being what people on Tumblr think they would be if they were cool.
Mass Effect and Star Wars turned me into such a Xenophile I never get it when Pancreas talks about people despising aliens in sci-fi 😂
Counterpoint from a fellow Mass Effect fan: Batarians.
Why hate aliens in Star Wars when human cosplayers are the issue?
24:30 Halo Legends may or may not be canon, so the female elites probably don't look like that.
This video deserves more views
Warhammer was what brought me to your channel and your channel brought me to far more love for Warhammer than ever before, however I love all your non Warhammer videos so much, please keep making whatever peaks your interests this channel is so much more than just Warhammer
6:34 NOT AGAAAAAIIIIINNNN 😭😭😭
> Insert gif of an elite saying “greetings” here
WORT WORT WORT!!! WAAAGH!!! EH TABOOEY!!!
Pancreas here: "The Imperium isn't something to aspire to."
Pancreas on Lorecrimes: "If I could, I would turn myself into a tech priest in a heartbeat."
😂
why does my boy at 10:06 have 5 fingers, what kinda alabama shit is this
I would also like to nominate the turians as cool aliens
Not even a minute in and i mostly agree. However, Humans are definitely(generally) the bravest though.
The sangheili are bigger, stronger, faster, smarter(or at least as smart), and have better tech. They outclass humanity in every way.
Hard to be brave when your opponents are so far beneath you
Then again, it is easy to prove your bravery when your opponents are so far above (as humanities opponents so often are in Sci-Fi)
The Elites still faced humanities greatest efforts head on on a personal level. They were the tip of the spear and were always out numbered. And on the rare occasion where human forces took out Elites the Elites were always last to die and left many dead before they dropped.
They were also always itching for a chance to fight and kill the fabled Spartan supersoldiers
That's pretty brave.
*they outclassed humanity as warriors, soldiers and generals, almost everything else they have is not much compared to even modern humanity
@marioneira5165 no lmao you're right about the first 3. Only in 343s time with Halos corpse do the Elites suck at life in general
Knowing basically nothing about Halo up until this point, this has been a very enjoyable and informative video. Could you perhaps do one about the grunts next?
