Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- The car just got delivered to me and I'm ready to take it for a spin. It's been 18 years since I last drove my Civic Si. It's amazing to be able to have something like this to enjoy once more.

“This will be my car”....completely ignores her “Sounds pretty good”..proceeds to rev 😂
The whole ride with the kids, he did the same thing - until his son said something about new wheels. he didnt acknowledge anything anyone said lol - What I would do if I was driving my HS first car (which is what I had) again!
Hilarious 😂
Just love seeing Matty this happy - living in nostalgia. Sometimes it’s not all about the numbers.
Nostalgia is where it's at👌
Matt is going to be running his Honda Civic with a spoon engine. And on top of that, he just went into LHT, and he ordered a T66 turbo, with NOS. And a Motec exhaust! hahahaha!!! Dude Matt, it's good to see you smiling ear to ear. Fond memories.
mechaet33 don’t forget about Race Wars
This has already been said 15 times
Tommyfyeah will be sourcing parts too
🤣
"it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow"
Jamal's Garage it’s even more fun to drive a fast car fast
@@PHFilms3 I think driving a fast car fast is fun if you can feel the speed like Matt did at 5:51. Some cars now are so refined and smooth that you can't feel much going on at 80mph+ that you think you are driving 35mph instead of 80mph.
@@PHFilms3 True but you can only drive a fast car fast at a track, you can drive a slow car fast 365 days of the year
joey s driven a slow car fast....everyone else thinks you’re a douchebag for revving it out. Either way going 100 mph is the same in a civic and a corvette you’re still going a 100
John Mitchell lol.. Negative.
When the first drive in your 170hp civic goes better than your 650hp Corvette 😂
L8 APEX 😂
@@pilotvanquish3886 2 year old top of the line carbon 65 c7 Z: nope
18 year old civic with vtec yo: YES
I love it! Lol
Nostalgia playing a huge part with that, but I would for sure smile driving a blue EM1 right now too.
@@MikeEM1 me too! That's got to be one of the cleanest Si's in the country.
@@L8-APEX mark my words, I'll have another blue EM1 someday! Regret selling mine.
I think cracking some good ole vtec is something that anybody can appreciate. Oh, and t’s highly contagious!
not surprised to see you here. gonna try to buy his engine ?🤔
Classic adrenaline rush back in the day when I would engage VTEC in
my old EM1. Smiled ear to ear every single time.
Facts🔥
The smile on your face makes the whole video. I think everyone who's sold a Honda they once owned misses this feeling! I should have never gotten rid of my Prelude.
I agree. I had a 99 prelude. MONSTER vtec crossover.
Still driving my 2008 Civic SI. Bought one year old. Best car I’ve owned.
I'm never going to sell my FBP EM1🔥
I still keep my Honda from 97 first owner not letting it go anytime soon
That’s the truth man. I miss my 01 Prelude SH. Even tho it wasn’t the fastest car I’ve own but it was my favorite. When that VTEC hit it sounded like 1000 Bees lol. Miss that car
That joy you experienced the first time you engaged VTEC is the reason I can't get away from Honda/Acura. This is a great video.
You know there are cars that perform well throughout their entire rev range? You don't have to wait for the last 2500 rpm for something to finally happen.
A true Honda guy at heart. Glad to see Matt never forgot where it all started

You seem more happy driving this than any other vehicle I've seen you drive on your channel. Those were the day 👍
Nostalgia👌
It's funny how much more you like a 2000 Civic over a C7 Z06 😂
See what happens is when the force pulls you back your foot naturally comes off the gas, you have to keep your foot to the floor....to fully appreciate Vtec
100%
💯
Facts🔥
And keep your foot down while you're shifting too. Them you stay in vtec.
So good seeing you happy. No shit this is without doubt one of the best cars you have bought. Such good memories from mine. I love that you can thrash these and not be doing crazy numbers, things don’t need to cost a racket to have fun. Such joyful simple fun. Can’t wait for this series 😎
In 1998 I was forced to sell my integra type R due to conditions beyond my control printed I've just purchased a mint 1999 EM1. I'm so excited. It will remain stock. Nothing like these cars ar all.
“This will be my car!”
“It sounds good haha” drives away.
Not following Matt for long but I can't recall him being so happy/smiling/laughing so much. 25G flashback.....priceless
I saw one today and it sounded so friggin good ❗️ I will always love this thing. I need one.
Going 60 and it feels like you are going 1000 ! That is exactly how I feel with my Integra Type R. It is such a fun car to drive but not fast. It just gives all the sensations that you are going fast. And yes VTEC makes me smile every time!
I think this says so much about cars in general. You can drive something with less than 1/4 the HP you're used to and still have a blast. More power doesn't always make you happy.
Nostalgia🔥
And you aren't insulated from the feels!
It's cool to see that someone that has cars like yours can still appreciate something like that. The difference is so big I don't think I could ever see something nice on a Civic after owning multiple Porsches, BMWs, etc. Hopefully you continue to enjoy the build.
Leave it stock. Thats what you paid for!
@@chukob5 will devalue the car for sure. But I dont think he cares. It's just a car to use for the giveaway. Perplexed why you would pay so much for one just to take it apart. But that's not my money. If I win it I'll return it to stock that's all I know! Haha
Keep stock parts to sell later, but make racecar!!!
he is gonna give the car away!
Don’t rice it out it looks so good stock the only thing I would do is the ex spoiler that it
"I have to let out the clutch quicker" YES, PLEASE. The revs not matching are hurting my little Vtec soul.
Yes
He just got it. He’ll get it prefect after a few more miles. The clutch definitely lost a lot of life in this video though.
Love that car I had a black 2000 Honda Civic si in 2001- 2005. Memories for me too.
Leave it stock it's perfect man
RICARDO you must be new hear. Did you not hear how much money he spent to purchase this? 25k for an Em1 is outrageous.
Noise Control yup goes from a $25,000 car to an 8,000 car
@RICARDO nah been here long time know Matt. It's a shame such a clean expensive example is getting modded. Oh well everything he does will be reversible I'm sure
I agree don’t mess with it
They're not the fastest but they're one of the funniest FWD cars ever made! Right behind the ITR and EK9. A timeless vision.
Facts🔥
@@AleksandrKisslove funniest? Lmao. You mean funnest lmao.
@@imtheonehero9305 yeah, that's exactly what I meant lol
Cool car. My friend had one in the exact color about 10 years ago. I remember driving it and I found it to be a blast to drive. It handled well and it had character. Cars like this don’t exist anymore. Looking forward to watching it come together on the channel.
Nostalgia🔥
This is just simple pure fun gotta love it when a guy who has $100k cars but still gets excited in a 20 year old civic
Well said.
Rev match down shift to help slow your pace so your not overly dependent on braking. Slowly expand you driving style to make you the star and not just the car. This car is awesome, plain and simple!
I graduated in 2001. This car, the Prelude SH and the S2000 were the cars I wanted .
I had an SH in college 😜
I remember H22 swaps were the thing. Now its K20
@@mattkessler2 I'm jealous. I've only seen one in person in the last few years. Most of the Preludes I do come across nowadays aren't SH models.
@@Joe_Friday There's a mint SH model near me for $7k in all black. Really tempted to go pick it up and have it as a daily and keep my '19 Si Sedan at home for the weekends.
@@ValkenDnB Ugh. How many miles is on it? Go get it!
One with 169,000 miles sold on BaT today for $10,000. I would daily this thing every day for the rest of my life!
I had a base 1997 Accord five speed through my 20s, and I can feel this car through the screen. Interior is perfect. DAMN, I want this car. My Accord shifted so smooth. 😁
Love it ill take mine over all these new cars with crazy technology in them. I may pull mine out tomorrow if weather is nice.
It actually sounds brilliant just now. Its got the right amount of depth to it without it sounding like a can of wasps.
Really looking forward to this project.
R.I.P clutch 2000 - 2020
Just teasing, Matt
No definitely rip clutch lol
I think the audio and the video are a little out of sync, shifts do not seem to match with the sound
@@mybuscus10 No, his mouth is matching the sounds coming out of his mouth. He's just holding the clutch in too much. It's been a while for him so he gets a pass. I remember going from a stage 3 clutch back to stock and I couldn't shift for shit.
Lol
Why is this way more exciting than the GT3?
wjkrug because he can’t afford a GT3
“I dare u to leave everything on this except the tires”😂😂💀💀
Those cars are awesome - one of the best looking Si models ever made. My brother owned a 2000 Si which strongly influenced my decision to buy a 2008 Si which I still own today. They are absolutely not the fastest cars, but the ability to rev to 8,000 is super fun, Idc what anyone says. High RPM Vtec sounds amazing. To get any other car that revs that high, you have to buy an exotic like a Ferrari or Lamborghini. (Obviously there's the S2000 but that's also Honda and has Vtec as well.) Extremely fun cars to drive
Looking forward to the day I see "Dialing in Ryan's first car" as a video title. He seems to have a real interest like his dad!
Im going to smash that like button on this whole series.
Dude your kids are asking all the right questions
lol, old school N/A cars with an actual throttle cables that you have to rung out to 8k to get powers are so fun :)
I cant wait for this build!
amazing car finding, amazing colour, hope you like it and cherish it as rare jdm that is. the best of luck with it !
God this brings back memories of my 00 black si. They sound so good with an AEM cold air. Kamikaze 4to 1 header, Greddy Evo exhaust plus a test pipe. Of course cam pullies, cam gears, lol. And a clutch. And definitely a skunk2 weighted shifter. Man I loved this car. Shit will be stolen in a week.
I love my FBP EM1🖤 always keep her in the garage and even have a GPS tracker on her👌
Dude! You’re bringing me back to my 99 SI that I bought brand new. I later supercharged mine. I sold it because I got sick of the Civic crowd. People kept trying to steal mine. My only complaint was that it needed a 6th gear.
In 2007 I had a clean one all original 78k original miles but it was stolen. Later I bought a black em1 but I always wanted the blue, so I bought a blue one, but sold it, now I regret it.
This transmission desperately needed a 6th gear as well as an LSD
Damn Is it really that bad?
@@jafethgarcia4819 it all depends on where you live. i advise a 5 speed manual
@@nacl2858 Ah that makes sense, been eyeing one of these so hopefully no one steals it if I end up getting one 😹
Ry is getting big! Maybe you should keep the Civic for his first car Matt! An OG spec'd Civic wouldn't be bad.

This is such a wholesome and humble video, I love it lol
A lot of smiles in this video, glad to see it! I'm excited to watch this build series, and also to donate a bunch of money to the Obsessed Garage when the raffle comes around.
Glad to see you so stoked man. Keep it light and fun my guy 🤙🏻
N/A Vtec with a manual will always bring a smile.
mellowbob Especially straight piped haha
Simple fun!
Love when you do content with more attainable cars. It's cool to see $100k+ cars but with a recession about to hit it's nice to see you working on lower end, fun vehicles.
he’s about to make it a $100k car! haha
@@eddiefara The only way to make a Civic $100k is to put $99k cash in the glove box 😂
@@ScramJamJohnson well this one he bought for 25k!!!!
amazing video!! felt like i was there with you!
this is the most wholesome video i think you've posted haha, 6:55 is you reliving your teens. this car is awesome.
These cars are great fun 👍🏻
“This will be my car”... wow this exhaust sounds good.. revs her out lol
I'm new to this channel, but I'm definitely subbing now
"Nothing but smiles" 😁 love it man, can't beat a little vtec civic for that haha
25k May sound expensive but when there’s a possibility of adding it as a business expense... well played sir
This would be an excellent " first car " for Ryan , you should keep it :)
Matt cuts video after 13:44 feel like he started to get emotional 😭 I would too bro! Living old glory days!
Nostalgia🔥
Glad to see your having fun, good times👍🇦🇺🍺
Man I needed this. Your and I have a very similar story. The sounds this video made brought back SUCH GOOD memories of my black 00. Thank you for taking the time to do this build. Reliving some youth. I bought mine 20 years ago this past December. Sold it only 2 years after buying to move to the BMW world.
Supercharged this thing it will blow your mind I promise
Am I the only one that’s like Wtfk is his son really think that car straight shit when it’s the hottest Honda ever made 😭😭
it’s so awesome to see Matt crack up like a little kid. that GT4 has some tough competition lol
Granny-shifting not double-clutching like you should.
when you feel that VTEC crackin y0!
lol doesnt go over 4k rpm and says its slow. smh. its slow but not that slow u just gotta make it go.
It really is so cool honestly
I can’t get over how mint the interior is
I was thinking of trashing my 99 EX sedan, but you know I will never get it back again.
Not sure whst your plans are with the car.
If you want to keep ac def go with b18 swap.
If you want some raw power go H2B (with F20B engine) F20B because the have cast iron sleeves and are high revving strong engines
If you want to keep ac and want 6 speed and more aftermarket support then K series swap.
Im more partial to the H2B swap though.
I look forward to the mods and progress!
this much money for a prestine car only to turn it into a build from the 00's...should at least have started with an already moded civic and keep this one OEM, to each his own i guess
Agreed
this is the exact model that appears on the underground 2 showroom
You can actually drive this car at 10/10 which makes it fun. You can't drive high horsepower cars at even 4/10 on the street if you want to stay within the limits of the law.
I'd never thought there were be such a fanbase for the old EM1's.
I still have my 1999 Milano Red Si. Its got about 60000 miles on it. its only see about 5000 miles in the last 10 years. I don't drive it much. I haven't driven it since 2019 November.
I've always wanted to just turn it into project car. Mine isn't stock as it runs a T3/T4 Turbo, its only at 5psi. Minor mods all around the car and it runs fine. I put some Nitto NT05's 205/50/15's on it last year. Replacing my Falken RT615's.
I've been wanting to put some money into it maybe when I have more disposable income.
Matt - "Is this car junk?" Ryan - "Sort of." Hahahaha
Keep it stock! ♥
You look happy man. Congratulations. You did NOT have the smile in your face with the Corvette...ever.
This is true. Corvette goes tomorrow!
Obsessed Garage oh snap! You sold it? Your work is appreciated so I am sure some Corvette enthusiast is going to be happy. Did you get what your wanted for it?
that sounds good , bet it's a fun car !
Spends $25 grand on a unicorn low mileage unmolested Civic Si. The best looking Civic ever made in its finest color.
Spends piles more molesting it, only to give it away to the next guy who spends piles and piles more putting it back to stock.
You Sir, are a genius with exquisite taste in Honda’s..... kinda of a dick too.
(When I win, please send me on my way with the original parts)
🤣
Until you drive it stock, and you'd be wishing you didn't have a stock Civic. Stock Civics are the worst.
i got the same car ebp with a b18c5 swap. its my daily and i love it. anyway subbed! cant wait to see what you do with this thing.
Awesome!
This just got exciting
I am so freakin pumped for this car on the channel! I had an Integra GSR which is extremely similar. After an evo, sti, and s3, I still think of the tegy. I think if I drove it again today I'd think differently but the 8200 rpm red line was so cool!
when im 18 this will be my first car
Had a jam b16A put into my civic, same engine just higher compression. Man do I miss that car and that VTEC was just fun to ring out to 8k
watching this am just as stoked!! wondering as for someone who owed both em1 and s2000 which vtec hits harder?
Love your videos
Honda makes the best sounding 4-cylinder engines IMHO. Brakes, though...about 4-5 super hard stops and the rotors would warp.
I would take this over the giveaway M5 any day, it's hard to beat out a clean Honda from their glory years.
I had an EM1 in high school bought it brand new, sold it in 2010 for $2500, so sad now kicking my self everyday for selling it.
my parents bought me 2000 black honda civic si when i turn 18. i loved that car so much. but I was too stupid and I ended up blowing up the engine.
Please don't waste your time pulling the original B just to put another B in. If you're gonna swap it, do it right and put a k20 in it. Beautiful car though!
Amazing little car as long as you are in a not so warm country lol. The AC really does slow it down lmao
Some of these have sold for over $50,000 on BAT. This is beautiful and original. Please resist the urge to modify it.
I miss my Integra GS-R; Watching this video, I have started looking online. There are literally none I can find online in my area = (.
I've had Evos, STIs, and even an S2000 but for some reason, I came back to 1998 DC2 GSR. I didn't really care for Hondas back then but the nostalgia is nice now that I'm older.
Jovincent Del Mundo I am 37 and just got my 1998 DB8 running again after years of sitting. Swapped in a fresh b20v with boltons and I drive it just to drive almost every day. I’ve had more powerful and expensive cars but these just do it for me more.
I've always wanted a silver gsr that looks 100% stock on the outside, just to anger/annoy/disgruntle the hat wearing crater faced punk mouth breathers whom if you looked at their facial expression would completely melt down and short circuit to the fact that the car is: a) stock looking b) actually WASHED (I love how these morons claim they "love" their vehicles, but when it comes to washing/cleaning = low energy joe biden approach c) sleeper - put a turbo on it or something that makes it competitive without all the LOOK AT ME and MY FLAT BILLED HAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
07wrxtr1 not a Biden fan but it’s well documented his cars are clean and awesome and he loves them like us. Politics can be mixed w cars but you are really reaching. Just get a car and enjoy it for u bud.
Nostalgia is where it's at👌
I remember my civic lol....turning off the AC is like free boost
Josh Tlynn removing power steering is too!
I don't know what the point of calling it slow is. That is like getting in a miata and saying its slow. It's an NA 4 cylinder from 20 years ago.
It's slow.
@@ObsessedGarage you are slow.
Beautiful family Man you are certainly blessed
Everything your saying is the exact feeling I have/had. I was also 20 in 2000 and purchased a Milano red 2000 SI, I’ve been wanting another ever since but in the Electron blue bit they are getting harder to find clean
They have gotten so rare these days
Oem type r Recaros will put you nice and low. You'll love it, look for the black recaros as apoosed to the red ones!
