Johnny Hiland is a Class Act Player! No question!!! In every aspect, this guy knows tone, technique and overall knows his instrument! Cheers to Johnny!!! And this demo of the Cali76 is amazing!!!
Well, I just got one of these and comparing it to my other really good Compressor that has a Mix control as well, it is a keeper ! It is a bit quieter , I do notice more transparency and the bottom end i did not realize was gone till I played this Cali76 Compact Deluxe is back ! My Low end thump and percussive spank is more present than ever. Good investment ! Johnny Hiland is such a great musician and a very nice young man. I ˙hope I get to see him live one of these days and possibly meet him. The other gentleman he mentioned "Lance Keltner " I have met and was invited to his house a few years ago to try out an amp.that is another excellent guitarist and one of the nicest people you will ever meet as well.
One of the top 3 most melodic and tatseful chicken pickers out there, imho. He is a monster and is able to add a very soulful and artistic feel to his phrasing and its not just a kazillion notes with no real meaning. Great video.. much impressed.
Backstory, I'm not typically a country music fan. However, Johnny here, and the broader genre do sport some some of the finest guitar tones and quality guitar playing out there. Their perspective on clean amp tone in particular really resonates. Enjoyed the vid, top compressor. Cheers!

Hah, Johnny sounds like a 50's commercial. Folks and Guys...it' like this.......Good rippin'. I supported the cause and pulled the trigger. Would like to see on the demo, you turning on and off the effect. But I'm digging it. Will probably replace my Xotic FX compressor.
To not loose bottom end you have to set the release short as well for reveal whatever reverb even your reverb room recording, to not to loose Attack you have to set your attack slow, cali 76 is moded from a 1176 UAD Urei studio compressor, the differnce with most guitar compressor is here you can adjust whatever you want to get the tone you want, you can strum an acoustic guitar with a faster attack and a short release to tam hard picking and trebes i.e. for sustain it is a setting which work with long notes and requires slow release time. ratio depend of how hard you strum and how much you want to balance your tone between trebles and low frecuencies, the first knob you must toadjust is Treshold that´s the level where the compression begins to work then the rest, to transparent operation lower ratio are best for overdrive and colored signal high ratio reveal the compressor characteristic in conjunction with threshold and input signal. it is a lot going on in this pedal (it can put you in front of the band or back also i.e.), i personally use the Effectrode PC-2A tube compressor it is a moded through the LA 2A Characteristic different from this one but i love it on Country guitar style picking as well, this all are not cheap but worth the money IMHO. Need a bit of study on how compressors works to really use it in full, as i said lot going on here :-)

Also got me an Empress compressor, a great bit o' kit..& Johnny had one on his board at one time,..but these things keep improving & my guess is, FWIW , he's always gonna go with the best on show,..( he can afford to ditch the old-I can't ) but I'm sure hes genuine truthful guy..speaks as he finds.

No doubt it's a fine sounding compressor, and this video really helps us to see how wonderful a compressor sounds in nearly any rig, but the cost of this compressor causes a bit of a sticker shock. I won't be using any $500 pedals on my pedal board in a bar.
Hey, Larry. I'm glad you like our Cali76 compressor's sound. There are a lot of comp pedals out there and ours is produced with the highest quality parts and hours of handcrafted skill which results in a high production cost. Our aim isn't to make a huge profit margin on these but to pour as much quality into a pedal as possible, which results in a great sounding, well-constructed pedal with a slightly above average price tag. If we made the pedals any cheaper then we would have to cut the quality - which we aren't prepared to do!
I can appreciate your passion for making the finest compressors in the world. It's just sad to think that 95% of the world's musicians will never be able to afford such a wonderous compressor.
Great musician, but he whores more gear than any man alive. Wasn't too long ago he was raving about another manufacturers compressor. I watch his videos just for his playing. I've not bought one piece of gear he demos.

If you check hi premier RIG Rundown. It only has the Cali 76 and no TC Electronic and SP compressors.

This pedal gets the best magical sound at 12V !!
Whith 9V it is has no magic and with 18V it gets a bit over !
What power supply do you use to get 12 Volts to it may I ask?
