Hey Pete. The demos that you do are, in my opinion, the best advertising a company could ask for and are much appreciated by the average consumer. I hope you are well compensated for your contributions to the guitar/gear world.
Now this is what I call a demo video. The band playing concept managed to showcase significant impact of the pedal at its very best habitat, which is within a musical composition.
Pete, man... hands down you produce the best guitar gear review/ demo videos online. I really appreciate the way you demonstrate the gear, how well you understand & articulate the functions, controls and give examples of the range of uses... I almost always pick-up a new useful tip or better understanding of something from watching your vids... And not to mention your playing & phrasing is a cornucopia of awesome and damn inspiring! Cheers man.
I find myself getting excited for these pedal demos Pete. Not because of the pedal per say, even though they are fantastic, but because of the tunes you write for each demo. Countless licks and creativity. Putting this one on the list. Thanks again.
The amount of work You have put in this video is amazing. Using a full band takes this demo to another level. I really like your videos, keep up the good work.
You really do the best demo's Pete, couldn't have asked a better review and it's now on my shopping list! Great that you shared settings and why too, very helpful. Hope you doing great man! best wishes.
Here I am, watching Pete's video and skimming through the comments, when I stumble upon the guy I learned so much from. You're one of the reasons why I could consider buying this pedal in the first place (that is, in a position of being able to play the guitar ;) ). It's now sitting on my board, and I have to say, it's excellent stuff. You'll enjoy it. Cheers, mate!
Great video Pete! As always... The final solo is a great example of musical taste and great playing... You always inspire me to focus on better playing rather than faster playing
Woo, hey Pete, I just got one of these Cali 76 Deluxe compressor pedals for $100 along with an "Evil Twin" Fender amp in mint condition! Killer combo for clean country twang!
I loooove this compressor. I own 3 of em. One for every board. After trying at least 10 or so of 'the best' this one wins easily. Doesn't color, leaving it on all the time is the usual setting. Makes me sound better than I am.
Hi Bill!, did you try the darkglass hyper luminal?, i'm trying to decide between tose two.., i'll use with acoustic guitar/nylon, live, no backing tracks or other instruments, thanks!, 👍
LOVE this opening rhythm with slide lol.. makes me want to do like a funky chicken dance like a teenager on acid or something colorful.. thanks for these stellar good videos, Pete!
I have the original size slide rig and what pete says is true, it makes everyones slide sound better. also just as a compressor without teh slide involved its fantastic
thank you for this video Pete, took me months to decide on my first comp. i chose the cali 76 deluxe over the keeley pro but your GC-2 video made it a very very hard choice.
Crap, those are awesome!!!!!! I looked them up right away. Not cheap where I live but may well be worth the purchase price. Pete your playing as always leaves me blown away. I share your vid's everyone I think matters. Keep it up!! By the way long time since Guitar nerd when can we expect something new??
This video has basically changed my guitar playing destiny! I thought it was a nice pedal but wasn't sure it was worth the extra money so was thinking of sending it back.. no chance now. That blend knob is as good as it gets. Thanks for sharing your brilliant insights feeling inspired 🙂👍
Origin Effects Cali76-TX vs the Compact Cali76. I would value your input. Not only are you a fantastic musician but every video I have watched you are an amazing nice guy.
Sold!!!!!!! Yep gotta have one of these after watching this brilliant Demo, so much effort put into this vid Origin should be really happy, well played ALL SuperCALi76ragilisticexpialidocious
Hi Pete, I'm wondering if you've had a go with the Cali76 Stacked compressor? I play acoustic and electric and I'm sure if I'd be better off with the Compact Deluxe or the Stacked version? Thanks for your great videos :-)
Hey Pete thanks for the great videos. This is 2020 so your videos are officially old school cool now, right? My question as a novice approaching compression for recording and playing at home is does this compare to the Keeley Compressor Pro? Also would one pedal be tweakable to get most of the sounds across the recording parts (if I could only afford one pedal that is..)?
There are several big differences between the Cali76 and the Keeley pro, though both of them were designed with the same goal-to put studio-quality compression into a format small enough to fit on a pedalboard. The Cali76 has four significant features that set it apart from the Keeley Pro. The first three are common to the original UA 1176 and the fourth is only on the pedal: 1. It uses voltage passing through an FET (field effect transistor) amplifier to control and compress the signal; 2. It has a powerful pre-amp stage - in the original 1176 it’s class A - and output level that gives it an amp-like feel; 3. It automatically sets the threshold at which the compression kicks in, although you can partially control this by where you set the Input knob; 4. The Dry control allows you to blend in your uncompressed signal for parallel processing. Meanwhile, here’s what’s crucial about the Keeley. It doesn’t purport to mimic any particular compressor, but it offers several modern conveniences that are particular to the dbx-designed chip that drives it: 1. It uses a THAT Corp. 4320 VCA (voltage controlled amplifier), which is based on the original dbx VCA chips (THAT bought the rights to early dbx designs and has updated them); 2. It offers two different forms of compression, hard knee and soft knee, selected by a switch, which control how aggressively the compressor will clamp down on your signal, in conjunction with the Attack control; 3. It has an “auto” mode which dynamically adjusts attack and release based on your playing style; 4. It has a dedicated Threshold control, which tells the compressor when to kick in, depending on the signal level. That’s a very broad distillation of the technical details. In practice, they are both great sounding compressors that can deliver pretty much whatever compression effect you want. The Cali76 stands out for that really powerful pre-amp section and for the way it captures the function and spirit of the full-on 1176 rack unit. The Keeley’s signature is that it offers two intuitive switches (Hard/Soft and Auto) to make control over the compressed signal easier, especially in live applications. Good compression can be subtle and difficult to parse. Both of these are very good, though the Cali76 edges out the Keeley in terms of build, style and bragging rights. It’s three-color lamp for indicating the amount of compression isn’t as accurate as the Keeley’s LED meter, but it communicates what you need to know in a non-studio environment. It also costs $360 vs $300 for the Keeley Pro. Both pedals will reward a user who has taken the time to really understand how compression works and what kind of compression makes sense in a given situation. Pete’s excellent demo (as usual) is essentially a Compression 101 seminar in how different settings can be applied to different instruments to really make them pop in a mix.
This one or " API Audio Tranzformer GT" for pedalboard with two distortions Boss DS-2 or Friedman BE-OD (not at the same time)? Amps two combo fender and marshall. Thanks in advance for anwser :)
I've got one, love it. How would I plug it into my Scarlett interface to use during mixing? Just 1/4" into the mic inputs? Can anyone tell me how I would do that? Thanks
You need something called a reamp box, which is basically a reversed (specialized) passive DI. Radial makes one, and Palmer makes another much cheaper one (it's called DACCAPO) which works fine. There's probably tons of products out there though. You rout the recorded track you want to compress to an output, connect the output to the reamp box with a TRS to male XLR cable, and connect the output of the reamp box to the compressor. Now if your interface has a high Z instrument in, you can connect the compressor to that; otherwise, you go the normal route via passive DI -> microphone in. Now you play the track and simultaneously re-record it to another track. Make sure you don't make any routing mistakes, or you might get horrendous feedback. Hope this helps! It's a fun way to mix; you can try your overdrives on vocals for saturation and ride the knobs while you record (and of course anything else you can think of). I highly recommend experimenting with it.
Pete, great job. I love what these pedals do!! Beautiful sounding. Did you try the sliderig with regular guitar? I'm curious how that would sound too, with cascading "1176"s. Thanks!
Hey Pete, any suggestions for getting unstuck from playing the same ingrained lead patterns whenever I solo? Thanks for all u do we all really appreciate it!
Hi Pete !! I'm a lucky owner of the Cali 76 Deluxe and the Revival Drive, Could I record direct electric guitars with these pedals to my audio interface to Daw?? Or do I need anything else to make it properly and get good results from these great pedals?? Thanks in advance, you're a great help and inspration to me. Edu
Hey Pete. The demos that you do are, in my opinion, the best advertising a company could ask for and are much appreciated by the average consumer. I hope you are well compensated for your contributions to the guitar/gear world.
For being a "hack, novice slide player" that was easily one of the best slide tones I have ever heard.
Now this is what I call a demo video. The band playing concept managed to showcase significant impact of the pedal at its very best habitat, which is within a musical composition.
Love seeing full band demos to show what something sounds like in context rather than just by itself which can be deceiving.
By far the best demo of these compressor pedals. Awesome how small they managed to make them and still be full-featured with good fidelity.
Pete, man... hands down you produce the best guitar gear review/ demo videos online. Thanks Pete for such a comprehensive demo and for creating some of the best demo videos on UA-cam. The Cali76 is now in my 2019 shopping list.
Hey Pete, thanks for all your work! Love your play and your way. Thumbs up!
That was a superb demo Pete! Awesome to see how you used each of these pedals and what effect they had. Thanks guy!
Nice job once again Pete.....
Super! Thanks Pete. 😎
Just brilliant players
Anyone wanting proof that this is basically an 1176 gets their answer as soon as the pedal kicks on for the drums.
That is THE 1176 sound...
I love the way you demonstrate these pedals. A combination of talented playing and informative dialogue.
Thanks!
Sounds like a nice compressor. I need to try one of these.
Love your videos man - amazing to see how far you have come in the past few years. Great demo - I needs me one of these comps!

Woo, hey Pete, I just got one of these Cali 76 Deluxe compressor pedals for $100 along with an "Evil Twin" Fender amp in mint condition! Killer combo for clean country twang!
Very bright enhancement from these pedals. Great adventurist melody you did for this demo Pete.
This song is great. Nice
Pete Thorn RULES!!!

Stellar job Pete!
amazing find.
thanx for showing these to us!
You have an amazing job.
Considering this bad boy for my acoustic rig particularly my soundhole pick up. Would love your take. Thank you
top notch playing, u r killing it
Reminds me of the old Aphex Aural Exciter demo record. It puts that air in the snare.
Great demo
great video - to the point and helpful. Ordered my pedal about ten minutes into the vid : ) Thanks man!
amazing sound !!!!!!!!!!!
Crap, those are awesome!!!!!! I looked them up right away. Not cheap where I live but may well be worth the purchase price.

Hi Pete, I'm wondering if you've had a go with the Cali76 Stacked compressor? I play acoustic and electric and I'm sure if I'd be better off with the Compact Deluxe or the Stacked version? Thanks for your great videos :-)
I’m a purely acoustic player and I’ve finally realized I need a compressor. I’m between this and the Jackson audio bloom. Thoughts on the two?
I'm glad to found you.. Amazing guitarist :D
Sliderig 4:30 12:37
what type of compressor would you use with emg active pickups, and would you use one with active pups. your videos are great thank you
That is nice too that you can watch your pedal and your guitar at the same time ! hehe ;)
Great demo as always :)

frickin total awesome offerings thanks for sharing yourself with us
This would be a nice tune for Melissa Etheridge.. love it
Thanks Pete Your Vid saves Us from waisting a lot of money on
wrong buying
I shouldn't have watched this video. Now I need one.
Great video! I have the compact deluxe. Unbelievable compressor. Most transparent I have owned. Just wondering who made your LP?
hey Pete, could you demo the boss me-80?
Hey, Pete! Is the Cali 76 Compact Deluxe a go to compressor for your guitar rig these days, or do you use a different one?
Isn't it too much if every instrument uses a compressor? Would that be over the top?
This video makes me wish I could use the "Like" button a dozen times for the same video.
Great review!! That bass tone was incredible! What was the signal chain for the bass guitar?
Heard the bass and scrolled up to the face and BAM! Pete with a Beard, or is it? LOL
Pete, great job. I love what these pedals do!! Beautiful sounding. Did you try the sliderig with regular guitar? I'm curious how that would sound too, with cascading "1176"s. Thanks!
I must admit that I don't really care about compressors but this video is awesome! Thanks Pete:)
Hey Pete, any suggestions for getting unstuck from playing the same ingrained lead patterns whenever I solo? Thanks for all u do we all really appreciate it!
🤓🤓I think I have the same Tak! Wow.. surprised you are not a kinda just Martin / Gibson guitarist! 🤘🤘 +Pete thorn
Did you run this at 9v Pete? Or 12v or 18v? Thanks! Just got one myself. Sounds great as always!
I imagine they all sound the same. The pedal probably runs at some x voltage regardless, and it has the input converted into that appropriate voltage.
Edu
the cali 67 compact deluxe or the free the tone silky comp?
Why does he look at two cameras at the same time?
Hey Pete - What's your signal chain for your rhythm guitar? Great video!
I can't lie and sarcasm doesn't work on text. it was great as always. 😉
Hi Pete....If you had to choose Bewteen this one and the Suhr Koji comp... Which one would it be and why?
Thanks
Marvellous Song, great sounds too! Thanks a lot! (although sometimes his skills just wanna make me throw my axe into the corner;)
Cali 76 or Wampler EGO Compressor?
Hi Pete, Would you consider the Cali76 Compact bass version suitable for acoustic guitar, because of the HPF and the dry/blend control? Regards : )
Did you preffer after or before distortion?
Really.....who's the asshole that gave this a thumbs down? Awesome demo, Pete!! Awesome pedal!!
Haters gonna hate :) thanks!
