He's very right about Scott Hall. He had the it factor that you need as a wrestler. He was a good guy too like he says, always willing to help others get over. Unfortunately he had bad influences and a lot of personal issues
Ain't that the truth! Biscoff was out of his environment and had no clue but to ask people around him what to do. Easy E was Walmart! He certainly conned his way into his position and then shoved his nose in Hogan's ass!
Without Bischoff's involvement in WCW, there wouldn't have been a Monday Night Wars. He was a screw up just like the rest of those folks , but he did bring the company to national prominence. He did a lot more than the others had done.
@@twomorningsbackfromyesterd1240 Even though I hammer him he should get credit for that 3 year run. Going up against Vince and implementing the NWO was very successful. Unfortunately he didn't keep it going strong despite strong ratings and attendance. That NWO concept was ruined in somewhat short order. Every Monday night was the same formula with a run in at the end. Why were there so many members in the group? Even though the roster skewed older he had alot of the greatest star power in the history of wrestling and it came crashing down too quickly.
The seasoned wrestlers all knew that the money train was going to end and they were all out there cleaning up on Ted Turners money while the getting was still good.@@Anthony-fk7yn
@curthennig9448 Truth. I still can't figure that out, other than at that point he was just more concerned with Vince and with what Vince was doing. Don't get me wrong though,he helped kill WCW.
I have heard so many people who have said the same, Goldberg, Bret Hart, Bam Bam, Cornette, out of the Kliq, Hall was probably the one they liked outside of the ring but was heavily influenced by the others in the Kliq. HHH was probably also one of the voice of reason although he was on the lower totem pole of the Kliq at the time. Pretty sure most people know who had the most stroke in that group. I will say this, the past is the past. Shawn, Nash, Xpac, have all grown up. We all live and learn. That's life. Life will always find a way to humble you.
All these years later, when you come to think about it. With all the egos they had backstage at that time, it’s amazing they even managed to put a show together back then let alone beat wwe in the ratings for two whole years.
How great this man is. When I was a kid growing up I loathed this man, both RL and cartoon Brain. Now I probably respect this man’s opinion and enjoy his story telling the most. With Mick a close second. I regret never getto meet him.
WCW went out of business because of the AOL Time Warner merger. They didn't want wrestling on any of their networks. It had nothing to do with all this BS that internet "smart marks" come up with. Nitro was still the highest rated show on TNT in the final years. It wasn't "Hogan keeping younger guys down", it wasn't "too many people in the nWo", it wasn't Russo, it wasn't Bischoff....it was AOL Time Warner not wanting wrestling on their networks. Period. End of story.
@@zachary_attackeryStill the highest rated show, but how much money did WCW lose in 1999 and 2000 again? Youre right, though. Im sure losing TENS of millions of dollars had NADA to fo with it. lol
@@zachary_attackery Too bad reality vehemently disagrees with you They lost 9 mill in 1999 and a whopping 62 million in 2000 But yea. Im sure Time Warner wouldve been just as keen to dump them if they made 30 million in profit like they did in 1998. lol
Bobby was so good on the mic. The Mexican wrestlers had some of the most amazing matches and carried those nitro episodes. I started watching nitro at the beginning of the Monday night wars and ended watching wwf. I got sick of listening to hogan hall and Nash talk every night. Sting barely wrestled. I would watch for Booker T and Harlem heat, meng and the barbarion, the Lucha wrestlers, the entire cruiserweight division, raven and Perry Saturn, Hugh morris.
@@Sammy_X7he wasn’t really a used car salesman lol It’s a saying. The expression means he sold WCW that he could run the company and Bobby is saying he lied. He wasn’t qualified for the job but tricked them. Everyone knows Bischoff worked for the AWA but in the TV world. He knew TV and he had his foot in wrestling.
Bobby looked so much healthier here than at the end... Tragic how he lost his jaw to cancer. The Weasels still top three wrestling managers in my book. Definitely on my mt rushmore.
@@GHelton definitely. Prolly no lower than second... Its a toss up for me between Heenan.. HEYMAN.. and Classie Freddie Blassie for top 3... Jimmy hart 4 and paul bearer 5.
I look back now,and literally forgot how TERRIBLE it was towards the end. Like you said,99 was the beginning of the end,and we didn't want to admit it then.
@@Robman0908 Yup. 99 had wayyy too many flips. Sting is suddenly heel,Rick Steiner is a heel? Hogan is face again? Macho is all over the place. Didn't make sense.
Hogan vs The Brain built the WWF he kept finding new monsters to beat Hogan , like when he had Andrea The Giant i thought it was finally have his champion but Bobby is the greatest ever.
Bobby belongs on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling. I'm so lucky I was able to experience some of what he had to offer in my lifetime, even if it was just 90's WCW commentary.
He missed Monsoon, Schiavone didn't clue him in on what was happening before it happened that night, and from what I've seen elsewhere he had a drinking problem (see Superbrawl 5 or 6 with Paul Roma vs Alex Wright for his slurring).
That combined with how they basically ruined all the successful gimmicks by putting all the top former WWF guys into a stable where EVERYONE had the same NWO gimmick. All black shirts, all acting the same way. No personalities, no real individuals other than Hogan, Hall, Nash, and Steiner. Pretty much everyone else was just turned into a copy/paste.
Bobby was a pro wrestling genius. He was a great on air character. And what he said, unfortunately its less and less in wrestling today - make it mean something. Guys think now selling is acting hurt for a couple minutes or until the match ends. A guitar shot they don't sell it continuously after the segment is over
i wonder if bobby was ever offered behind the scenes jobs. he was truly a brilliant man with such an eye to every detail of presentation. he probably wouldn't appreciate the corporate structure but damn such an untapped resource in WCW
In terms of in ring ability yeah sure, he was nothing special. He could however cut a promo, he was good looking and had a lot of charisma. That's what made him stand out. A lot of people don't seem to get that
Scott hall in my opinion will go down in the history books of wrestling as one the best of his era scott was just a very tormented man but most of us would be if we had live with killing somebody
@@volourn9764 Bobby said that Bischoff MAY have had a roll in WCW's downfall. Furthermore he stated that Hogan was all out for himself. Whomever was either foolish or stupid enough to give Hogan creative control is responsible as well. I think it was a combination of politics, reckless spending, and very poor booking being the prime canditates. A lot of people blame Russo but by the time Russo got there is was all but over with the AOL merger in process.
Once I saw Bischoff in the ring, throwing his karate kicks, the boat started to fill with water. I knew the end was near......pathetic in a very bad way.
What about the time he got the giant suspended - When the following week the brain was a manager to someone that had the body of the giant -but had a mask on - So could not tell who it was----- LOL----------- - I still have not seen that video again from the 80,s
The problem with the WWF-WCW comparison is that 1) The WWF was boring to watch. The WCW introducing its grand narratives w/ the outsiders was a very original idea, and that's what won them the day. WWF revived itself when it copied the WCW. If you tuned into WWF, you tuned in for one match and that was it. W/ WCW it felt like anything could happen at any time, which allowed them to build up guys who wouldn't otherwise have received that attention. 2) The WCW died due to mismanagement by the people at Time Warner/AOL, a bunch of marketing people whose involvement in wrestling ended with stonk bars going up. Bischoff's hands were tied. 3) Bischoff has explained this before, but when wrestling was still Ted Turner's baby, that's when they could do what they want, and they were bringing in ideas from everywhere. People like to criticize the WCW's storylines, but they never seen to turn that criticism back towards the WWF when it had some truly bizarre takes and set ups.
The AOL merger killed WCW. They didn't want to have anything to do with wrestling. Nitro could have been the best wrestling show in the world and it wouldn't have mattered
Bingo the new AOL execs were west coast liberal elites, some feminists included, and they probably couldn’t tell the difference between WCW or the stuff on WWE. It was all just trash TV to them and they wanted to make TNT more “upscale”. Some other great shows like Joe Bob’s Monstervision got removed or watered down.
WCW lost 62 million in 2000 Youre telling me it wouldve made zero difference if WCW was still making 30 mill in profits as they did in 1998?? Riiiiiite. lol
@@curthennig9448 WCW was still pulling in good TV numbers even being behind WWE. You can’t tell me replacing it with old law & order episodes were more profitable from an advertising perspective. The ship could’ve been steered around with some budget cuts and retooling. At the very least if it was about cutting your losses they’d asked for more money than selling it to Vince for pennies on the dollar. It was a completely spiteful and illogical sale from a business standpoint.
@@CannedHam2479 1998 was the only year WCW made a profit. Ted Turner wanted wrestling on TNT so he carried them despite the fact that they were a net loss every other year
I still say that the botched Sting/Hogan finish is where the downfall became certain. When Hogan got a clean 3 count on Sting, the BEST angle in recent wrestling history went completely down the toilet. Brett tried to save it but when that 3 count happened, I looked over at my friend like "huh?" and he said "well that's some bullshit". And not even anyone on the damned TV screen could make heads or tails of it. They had spent sooo many months building that angle, maybe years if you dig into it. That was going to be the match where WCW/Sting fought back. But then Hogan got that clean 3 count and that whole steam engine of momentum went right down the shitter.
Bobby was one of the most loyal guys in the business. When everyone from Hogan to Okerlund walked out (quit) on Verne without notice, or JYD walked out on Watts without notice, Bobby was one of the only ones who honored his contract. Same thing when he left the WWF. Sadly, Vince never brought Bobby back, despite his loyalty, even though he constantly brought back guys who held him up for money, flat out quit, couldn't be trusted, and were a total nutcase.
Bill Watts asked me if I had every been in a knock down drag out bar fight? I said yeah. He said you ever get hit with a chair or pool cue? Yeah i said, Bill said did you get up fast? hell no i said! That is pro wrestling make it as real as you can cause there are people out there who have been in bar fights.
When I was a child... Bobby Heenan may as well have been Darth Vader! i despised him like no other... Except maybe Danny Davis!😂 Hated him even more actually. But as a 45 year old man man, today....I realize how much of a genius he wasn God rest your soul, Mr.Heenan. Thanks for the memories.
I remember I stopped watching WCW when Sting joined the nWo. I gave it another chance in 2000, and the first visual I see is Jarrett walking down the aisle with the WCW title. Never saw another minute after that.
Yup! Look, JJ was alright. It's not like I changed the channel when he was on Raw. Thing is, the years had proved he's not a main event talent. A top tier company like WCW simply cannot put their world title on him. You can't scream "we're number 2!" any louder. I'm the same hadn't tuned in for quite awhile and when I saw that I just laughed and realized they were so screwed
WCW was just another job for Bobby really wished he would have stayed with the WWF or done something behind the scenes. That said he was right on the money about Hall , Nash, Bischoff, and Turner. Glad to see him call out Nash and praise Hall. One was nothing special while the other had charisma. Unfortunately, the guy with charisma couldn't live without consuming himself in alcohol or drugs.
After what happened to WCW many companies are doing the same thing. Paying extra money to people who are not producing. They had a young Eddie Guerrero...

It would be so cool to have someone find hours upon hours of Heenan talking wrestling
How great this man is. When I was a kid growing up I loathed this man, both RL and cartoon Brain. Now I probably respect this man’s opinion and enjoy his story telling the most. With Mick a close second.
I regret never getto meet him.
Horrible mismanagement ruined WCW
Im sure losing TENS of millions of dollars had NADA to fo with it. lol
Tully Blanchard and Ted Turner have no buisness in the wrestling industry.
@@CannedHam2479 They didn't lose "tens of millions"
@@zachary_attackery Too bad reality vehemently disagrees with you
They lost 9 mill in 1999 and a whopping 62 million in 2000
But yea. Im sure Time Warner wouldve been just as keen to dump them if they made 30 million in profit like they did in 1998. lol
Even at WCW’s peak they relied to heavily on the NWO storyline and once that storyline got boring they had nothing new to keep the fans interested
He was 100% right when he said Hall was an incredible talent and Nash was just a big guy, nothing special.
Oh, I miss Brain, much love! True legend, last of his' kind but 1 in a billion.
"Bishoff is a used car salesman that got involved in wrestling"...couldn't say it better
So? You can't have a different career before getting into wrestling?
@@Sammy_X7he wasn’t really a used car salesman lol
It’s a saying.
Breaking News!!! Cancer makes you look unhealthy and... hope you're sitting down.... is actually unhealthy!!!! Yeah, no shite Sherlock.
Top 3??!!
@@GHelton definitely. Prolly no lower than second... Its a toss up for me between Heenan.. HEYMAN.. and Classie Freddie Blassie for top 3... Jimmy hart 4 and paul bearer 5.
@@JesusChristmyMESSIAH I meant Bobby should be #1, no questions asked. Just imo.
@@GHelton his record as a manager does speak volumes.
He was one of a kind. Sarcastic & funny at the same time.
It was fire from 95 to 98.
99 Early on we knew it was dying.
I look back now,and literally forgot how TERRIBLE it was towards the end.
Like you said,99 was the beginning of the end,and we didn't want to admit it then.
The main events were always terrible, the undercard good. Opposite of wwe.
99 could have done something to right the ship but the injuries and same nonsense just piled on.
@@robertcoggeshall3071 Yeah because they too often ended in disqualification. Or interference of some sort. Rarely just a real clean match.
@@Robman0908 Yup. 99 had wayyy too many flips. Sting is suddenly heel,Rick Steiner is a heel? Hogan is face again? Macho is all over the place. Didn't make sense.
Rip bobby.. sucks what happened to him.. one of the best talkers.. and he couldn't talk.. but he was still upbeat miss u brain
Simply the best wrestling manager ever and a brilliant guy. He and Gorilla was just pure magic.
Sorely missed is Bobby. RIP
It was an absolutely heartbreaking tragedy that Heenan was eventually robbed of his ability to talk.
And that it was throat cancer and he never smoked.
Hogan vs The Brain built the WWF he kept finding new monsters to beat Hogan , like when he had Andrea The Giant i thought it was finally have his champion but Bobby is the greatest ever.
When he was a manager he did act like he was making an investment with the wrestlers he managed. The way he did promos.
His logic would get attacked by today’s AEW fans sadly.
Bobby belongs on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling. I'm so lucky I was able to experience some of what he had to offer in my lifetime, even if it was just 90's WCW commentary.
his best work was alongside gorilla monsoon in primetime wrestling, wwf
That’s crazy how wcw could make Bobby Heenan not care about his jobs
Bishoff's environment.
He missed Monsoon, Schiavone didn't clue him in on what was happening before it happened that night, and from what I've seen elsewhere he had a drinking problem (see Superbrawl 5 or 6 with Paul Roma vs Alex Wright for his slurring).
@@curthennig9448 Apparently😢
From a fans point of view thats me. WCW failed because of cheesy gimmick after cheesy gimmick
A guitar shot they don't sell it continuously after the segment is over
i wonder if bobby was ever offered behind the scenes jobs. he was truly a brilliant man with such an eye to every detail of presentation. he probably wouldn't appreciate the corporate structure but damn such an untapped resource in WCW
it stuns me that a Heenan didn't seem to have issues with Hogan. Are the others wrong?
I can listen to heenan read the weather.
I can listen to him read the alphabet
There's something to be said about those smaller arena's. You could see the blood and sweat flying around. Great time to be a wrestling fan.
Bobby is such a legend
Only two years later than this he started his battle against throat cancer.
Bobby was so intelligent. I really miss him ❤
Bobby couldn't be messed with on the mic.
Bobby had great perfect mic skills.
Bobby would give The Rock,Stonecold and Flair hell on the mic.
Today, the Rock would likely brag about his wokeness, and make a complete ass out of himself.
Bobby "The Brain" Heenan was absolutely the best!
Biggest take. Nash is just a big guy. Very true.
Bischoff wanting to be Hogan's little buddy is what killed WCW
You didn't listen to a word Heenan said. Sad, and pathetic.
3:21: Heenan is right, Scott Hall is not a bad guy, he's THE BAD GUY!!!
The problem with the WWF-WCW comparison is that
1) The WWF was boring to watch.
I started to notice WCW's downfall when they hired Vince Russo and started to mimic WWE's "Attitude Era" gimicks.
@@mikeg2491 Was AOL the reason WCW lost loads of money in 2000?
WCW lost 62 million in 2000
Youre telling me it wouldve made zero difference if WCW was still making 30 mill in profits as they did in 1998??
Riiiiiite.
Ted Turner wanted wrestling on TNT so he carried them despite the fact that they were a net loss every other year
Bobby can do anything from A to Z when it come to the wrestling business absolute number one on Mount Rushmore! 😇💯👌
I was having such a shitty day.i needed a laugh. RIP Brain.
Bobby was the best. We hated him as kids. He made us believe his character. More than any Paul Newman o4 Robert Redford ever could
Its amazing how Heenan's examples of the fuckery at WCW aren't jokes or hyperbole...but what actually happened.
Bobby did commentary at a Wrestlemania 17 match. So he was brought back briefly
It was shocking that it failed at the time. WWF was second fiddle to WCW during its prime. Me and my elementary friends all preferred it.
Finger poke of death killed wcw for me! Kevin Nash is my favorite wrestler and that finger poke of doom was devastating
It helped wrestling.
"It was the most disorganized organization I've ever worked for." -Randy "Macho Man" Savage on his time in the WCW
It got ridiculous when they had a bunch of factions. When WWF starting developing extra factions I stopped watching.
"A used care salesman who just happened to be in the wrestling business". Gotta love the Brain.
Scott Hall was the shizz! I lurved Razor Ramon & he was brilliant just wished he'd have not done all the bad things to himself.
Hall absolutely should have been a headline player if he was sober. Instead they had him jobbing to Larry Zybysco
Bobby Heenan RULES!!!
One of the most ridiculous things I e heard was Bischoff telling Bobby he couldn’t be funny anymore on commentary.
After what happened to WCW many companies are doing the same thing. Paying extra money to people who are not producing. They had a young Eddie Guerrero...
Thanks for posting these. I’m in theatre and I’ve been an acting professor…and Bobby is teaching the tenets of acting technique here. Is there anywhere to see this interview as a whole from beginning to end?
