To me Gene Okerlund is the voice of wrestling. I first started watching wrestling when I was a kid in Wisconsin and watched All Star Wrestling every Saturday night. He was the greatest. Rest in peace, sir.
I'm paraphrasing here, but Heenan was like, "I am sorry, but it's going to be hard for me to be objective during this match" to which Monsoon responses by saying "When have you ever been objective." Greatest rumble of all time.
@@jonnybekeww5639 I love Jim Ross he was so passionate. I remember how deep he would get into the storylines. I remember his reactions it made you think the wrestlers were actually killing each other lol. I mainly speak of his Attitude era work. Don't know his work before and after that.
Mean Gene and Bobby. They gave WWF and WCW color and humor and as evidenced by what we've seen since they departed, they'll never find equals. R.I.P. gentlemen, and thanks for the great entertainment and fun.
@dr.floridamanphd Yep...he loved the booze so much that he ruined 2 livers. He fried his own liver with liquor..got a liver transplant and ruined that one with liquor too. As much as I liked Gene on tv, that is disgusting. In order for him to get that transplanted liver, someone had to die. Then, while he was boozing it up on his transplanted liver, someone else was dying,... waiting for a liver transplant...which Gene got..and drank away. As a son of someone who died needing a kidney transplant, Gene's behavior sickens me.
I met Shawn Michaels at a book signing and I think he was having a bad day because he was really rude,. I don't want to think he is that kind of person because I am sure lots of people had good experiences with him. I just caught him on a bad day. When I met Bobby Heenan, I told him it was an honor to meet him. He looked at me, smiled and said very humbled, "Oh thank you so very much." Bobby was so kind and he made me feel a lot better. I sold the Shawn Michaels book but I still have Bobby's.
I was in an elevator with mean gene when I was younger got his autograph and talked for several minutes super down to earth easy going man, fond memory for sure. Rip Mean Gene
I saw Bobby in 1975 in Indianapolis when he and the Blackjacks, Lanza and Mulligan, were running amuck during that time. Bobby KNEW how to draw heat and was SO GOOD at it. Great on the mic bad mouthing the “ham and eggers” and humanoids. Wrestling is a scary business being the villain but being able to draw heat like that, puts lots of butts in seats and makes you a great draw. Bobby was the BEST!! ❤❤
For those that haven't yet read Bobby's two books, do yourself a favor. Bobby was one of a kind. He knew how to get a fire lit, fan the fames and the the audience take over.
A man who could errupt an arena with just looking at them.We are blessed to have seen him controlling every second he was at a wrestling venue.Great personna Gene also
I met Gene just a few years before his accident and ultimately what would be his death. To me, he was just this awesome, cordial and friendly person that seemed to have no idea just how legendary he really was. He was just that same guy that I watched on television; nothing more, nothing less than you'd expect. I mentioned that I loved his WCW days (I really did, that was true) and how I thought it was just the best. Without missing a beat, He slaps me on the shoulder and says "Hey, off the record of course but it was the best, it had to be the best because everything else in that company was just so damned terrible!" Gene was a true legend though and for what it's worth, he was right but I so loved WCW. 🤣
What a great guy! I didn't appreciate him enough when he "invaded" my WWF broadcasts in the early 80s. I was actually LAMENTING the loss of Vince as the interviewer! But Gene Okerlund was simply THE VOICE on professional wrestling for a generation. A little broad in some of the comedy but what a way with words! Imagine a show with prime Gene Okerlund and Gordon Solie... that would have been something!
My favorite 2 moments with Bobby and Gene together were Heenan's WCW debut. The other was when they made their return to WWE at WM 17, calling the gimmick battle royal.
Gene Mean was my favorite interviewer and Bobby was my favorite pro wrestling personality period during the time he did commentary for WWF matches because Heenan was funny and clever. It was about entertainment, and Heenan was the best entertainer out of anyone (wrestlers, managers, commentators, etc.).
The Brain really was 10 steps ahead of us with his comedic wit. Could say stuff instantly better than all of the best scriptwriters combined. Mene Gene is the greatest backstage interviewer. Knew what to say, how to direct and get the talent over.
I grew up watching Mean Gene and The Brain on the old AWA in the 70s and they were great back then. You could see the chemistry between them even back then, those two were the best!
To me the greatest of all time in wrestling I say it's Bobby The Brain he could wrestle , mng , talk on the mic , for promos or announcing and Bobby & Gorilla the best 1 , 2 ever
Gene is the ultimate interview. Perfect voice. Perfect demeanor. He knows how to keep it classy with all the trashy! RIP Gene. We all loved you very much
I can't believe that Vice would let Mean Gene and The Brain LEAVE the WWE. Two of the best promotors of Wrestling EVER. when you think of interviews in that business - It's Gene Okerlund and Bobby Heenan
Has anyone else noticed WWE and AEW only have women announcers introducing the wrestlers including the interviewers…nothing against the women…but Genes voice and humor is what made him so great
RIP to the late great Mean Gene Okerlund

Imagine Heenan in the day and age of podcasts. He’d be a God
I mean, we got Corny. right
@@Breakbeats92.5 Cornette is a force in his own right, but nobody could have touched Heenan just riffing on stuff.
As the writer of his two books, I have been doing a podcast using the tapes from our conversations
Nah this crappy cancel culture wouldn't suit him....
Imagine the knowledge and stories him and bobby had in the car. 👋. Priceless
Bobby and Gene were a huge part of my childhood. Such great memories.
Bobby was the greatest. Royal Rumble 1992 was a masterclass in how to be a heel commentator.

and Gorilla just feeding him freakin classic
Heenan was always great, but Gorilla really helped bring out the absolute very best in him. Perfect team.
Put em up!🤣
His line about Virgil was fantastic. “Imagine how many bags he has gone through” lol you could never say that today but God damn was that funny
A Heenan and Mansoon Podcast would have been the greatest.
Duuuuuude
Unreal would have been
Will you please stop?
They were a great team
@@aidanlynn I agree wholeheartedly. with my podcast, I have done the best I can.
Bobby was the best commentator/manager in all of wrestling
IYHO, that is.

Heenan the best manager? I can agree with that. Ventura was by far the best commentator though.
Bobby was a great actor. The look of instant terror he could whip up whenever any chance of actual physical confrontation arose was priceless.
All of us 9 to 5 Humaniod Ham and Eggers were blessed to be entertained by the GOAT. Heenan was one if a kind.
Humanoids, yep, LOL. Heenan was the verbal version of Jimmy Hart when it came to agitation.
Bobby was the best
Sir Robert of Heenan and Nick Bockwinkel were pure gold. The best manager/wrestler combo ever. Period.
Definitely. I definitely miss the days of Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. 😀😥
