    Honky doesn't get enough recognition for being a truly great heel. He was only guy at the time able to turn both Jake and Macho into popular babyfaces after they both had runs as two of the most hated heels themselves. Not to mention the formation of the Mega Powers. Extremely underrated. And his shoot interviews never get old.

      Honky gets ragged on by some old timers for being “fake” or “phony” in the ring as far as how he worked, but who ever said that was a bad thing?
      Nobody.
      Honky was a song and dance man. He’s the first to tell you he was, and that’s just as, if not more important a style to have in the business as a shoot/believable or acrobatic/high flying style. Think about this. The Will Ospreys, Ricochets, Zack Sabres, etc of the business are fun to watch (and I am a fan), but are never the top guys in the business. They may headline an indie here and there, maybe Japan, but they are not the top dogs in Spirts Entertainment/pro wrestling.
      Honky, the “phony song and dance man” was selling out arenas all over the world while working for the biggest company in the world.
      No flips.
      No top rope moves.
      No crazy bumps.
      Not that aim ragging on that style of wrestling, they all have their place. But my point is, he doesn’t get enough credit for becoming an upper echelon guy in a time when the WWF was stacked with talent.

Like road warrior animal legends in their own heads for what they really drew. Honky had a good run in WWF but after his IC reign his gimmick was starting to become stale. He needed to reinvent himself which he never did. Plus he is a bit of a complainer and negative attitude. He had charisma and I think he could have possibly had a little bit longer run but I think his attitude got in the way.

    • @aoisora1445
      @aoisora1445 День тому

      It takes years to get a gimmick and hit with it, and most wrestlers eventually find that one gimmick and never let it go...
      Honky knew that this Intercontinental Title run was going to be his peek, the reason the IC Title reign helped him was cause people wanted to see him lose the title but he just never did, he would always escape with the title... Warrior destroying him was what the people wanted to see, but that moment was the end of his career... Also Hulk Hogan reinvented himself once with Hollywood Hogan... go figure he would later have one of the greatest matches of all time with Hollywood The Rock... but in terms of gimmicks many wrestlers once they hit a big name gimmick there is no reinventing yourself unless you got other strengths...
      Honky mostly had psychology and promo... his in ring was decent enough and very safe... but he did not have athleticism to fall back on, he did not have any big finish and unless he sacrificed his sideburns and his signature look, they would forever be calling him the Honky Tonk Man... did you ever meet that wrestler Tensai aka Albert aka whatever other names he used in the past...
      His gimmick was the peek of his career there is no more reinventing option only a handful are talented enough to ever do multiple gimmicks...
      Also many gimmicks are often sometimes just a slight variation of their original gimmick...

      @CodeThatTalks День тому +1

      Yup, he's the only one that would've cared if he won or lost some stupid match. If you can work and have a good gimmick, you can lose almost every match and people still love you! I've seen cactus jack lose so many over the years, I've lost count. Still thought it was a great gimmick. Sure, he'll probably lose, but you could never be too sure! Made it interesting

      @kellismith4329 exactly and he was over which got him to the WWF. Some people just think he popped up one day and Vince gave him the Intercontinental Championship. Honky Tonk was such an easy draw, leave it to Early Eric Bischoff to look at a guy that Vince had a strap on for 2 years solid and think "There's nothing I can do with this guy." Bischoff was a great creative mind, but all he knew how to do was hotshot at the end of the day.

      it is not as simple as someone's ego... once you lose on TV everyone knows about it, he did not mind those dark house shows that no one would ever get to see and so on... but have you ever noticed how as soon as Kofi lost everyone went on about that match, but if it had been some random house show, no one would really care or even really know about it... house shows were just what you did along the road, the televised matches are what gets you more over on a world wide level and he was not risking whatever bit of status he still had without getting paid well enough for it...
