There is nothing on this world like the motor trends the veterans and personalities that ignites car enthusiasm! Thanks more trend! Please don't lose good people I would really appreciate that! All love
Love how Tetz says he's a big believer in PPE in regards to teaching people in his painting course over on a vice grip episode but then is using a grinder with no guard and no face shield/ arm coverage. Get him some PPE!
In the midwest, specifically Kansas/Missouri, that's not a crush car, that's a $5000 car easily, even being a 6 cylinder car, even though it's honestly only worth about $1500.
I can vouch for it...it was dragged across the scales at PullaPart...they called Kevin and I cause we fo a lot of work with them. They didn't want it on the yard because they don't do classics, and the only other option for them was crush it. Unless we wanted it...who says no to a Mustang
@paintucation they were probably thinking "it's just an old mustang, nobody is gonna pay actual money for something this beat up and old." Which is a crazy thought, but sadly many people think that way about cars, for us it's a culture, for them it's tool to serve a purpose
You may know but if you can work the sawzall like a hand saw while sawing it will cut faster and blade will last longer ! Its hard to do sometimes but it works
Really like the car craft show and great find but hate to see it cut up BUT i know it much better ! I would like to see the underside cleaned up i love the 351w I just wish it was built a little like to 426 LOL I wish the show was longer with more detail GREAT SHOW
Somewhere out there, a collector is cringing and cursing!😄 I prefer restomods like you guys are doing! The 351w was a great engine and there's plenty of performance parts available. My aunt had a red '66 with the 302 automatic in the mid '70s! Looked like the one you have!
Oh yeah someone just punched their computer screen! When your aunt was driving her Mustang in the 70's, was it looked at as a really hot car or just a car anyone's mother would drive?
I’m so glad people are finally starting to save classics more frequently from the scrap yard ( crushers). I literally have 25+ vehicles I saved from going to a scrap yard and I just have them in a line on my property. I still don’t know what I’m going to do with all of them. The downside to classic cars though is what think they’re worth is far higher than what they really are worth. For example I bought my non rare 69 coronet with a 440 for 3k. It’s a decent car, but mopar guys are selling just rollers in the same condition for upwards of 8-10k. So if a guy were to buy that, build it reliably they would spend over 20k on a car that’s only worth 12k at best. The hay day of buying old muscle car era cars for 500 to 1k are gone for the most part. There’s still those deals but they’re getting old so they’re in worse shape and require more money and work for a more expensive car.
Thats a nice build. The spindles, rotors, calipers etc are incredible. For me the leaf springs and stock rear-end would have sufficed for a while . I wonder what the total suspension build costs ? A 5.0 engine and trans combo would stuff in there nice too.
great choice of parts. and great installation. careful with all that grinding near new engines. metal dust and engines dont mix. I was just discussing the you tube and different car shows with my buddy. I made the comment about taking a car and just throwing chinese made parts at it until its "the best car". Had to look up Heidts and where they are. Well, I am eating my hat on that one. Nice job.
I think that 351 might have been mine I put in a 68 F100. I took it out of a 85or86F150 . it's a 351h.o. I put a erson cam I had in a old 302 build. the valve covers are a 5.0 h.o Mustang. And the Edelbrock intake. rear sump oil pan.
@@paintucation disagree. It's NOT better than OE. Mustang II's were never known for their handling abilities. You never see anyone road race with this suspension. It does give many choices for brakes, steering etc - but so does the stock setup, either modified or a strut based front end. The biggest plus for this setup is the expanded engine bay - allowing you to fit pretty much anything you want in there - and they choose something that would have slid right in a stock setup - a 351w.
@@chuck_machine Its 100x better than OE. The 10 years in technology is huge, the MII steering was used by thousands in hotrods and musclecars for decades. Sure there are other options now, but like Kevin said cost is also a huge advantage. And the aftermarket support is still incredibly strong for it. I've owned and restored mustangs since 1983 and currently own 9 pre 1970 Mustangs...so I'm confident in saying that the 60's suspension is horrible, even when restored with all new parts. It still handles like a paddleboat out at sea, and the leafsprings cause major axle hop and ride like garbage. Sure caltracs will help with the axle hop at $400, but you still have 50+ yr old springs. 4 link is the way to go.
This is cool and all, but a normal person couldn't afford all these suspension addons...nor could you guys probably without free stuff from the manufacturers.
Nice to see them saved
Glad to see Kevin on this build! He was always a great and honest host.
I miss turn of the century Car Craft!!! Matt King, Tony N, Henry D, Marko...That was a special time, man.

You couldn't be more right about that. Makes a guy wonder about this story...
Nowhere it’s a scrap car haha ! Even the lower cowl is not rusted I bet !

Same or more here in Alabama
@@BigTireGarage the people who let it go didn’t know what they had ? That’s crazy if it’s true but. I wish I was there first !
Dang, whoever took that to be scrapped had no idea about cars. She's so solid.
You never know what you're gonna find in the junkyard!
I know!!! it was surreal... Not sure what somebody was thinking.

Excellent wheel choice, guys...👍
Kevin is the man! If only he could come up to Va and help me with my 68'
Nice save and upgrade...love it!
Well done my friends 👍
Anxious to see what you have planned for the hood.
Very excited to see more of this build, I just bought a 67 coupe today and plan on using this as a sort of guide to getting it running again
This build is way overkill for a "get it running again" project.
@@chuck_machine just the first step since it still has the original drivetrain but it’s going to be an autocross build
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 off to a great start
351 W is going to be a beast in this little stang 🐎
Awesome building cars with free parts...
Yup!! It's all free.... all of it... even our tools are free! even the show is free!!!!!! :)
Great video. I really enjoyed it
Such a great build, could we get longer episodes?
More episodes from this build are coming soon!
join motor trend to see full episodes.
Kevin is the man. Check out when he came to help Derrick on VGG. He’s a down to earth dude that I always liked watching on velocity aka motortrend.
For me an old body man excellent content I just wish I had seen the whole thing happen or being there to help!
Welcome back Car Craft
Edward Mohr Man I wish that the car magazines where back.
Good luck 👍
You're right. That ain't no crusher in Missouri. That's a Rock Auto

He said it's an easy install, Maybe for you master mechanic. not for me. great job thanks for sharing.
A great start, those inner wing infills are ugly though - a bead rolled around the edge would help
cool for a 10 minute commercial.

My 67 got crushed when a Lincoln rear-ended it @ 50mph.😫 I want this car.

What is the heidts suspension kit that you put in it?
It's crazy and amazing someone developed a kit like this.
For us European guys, how much does a kit like this go for?
Good to see Kevin about again… musics a bi too loud guys
Looks like one i saw at Rusty Acres. Maybe, maybe??? lol
Rusty Acres in Florida?
@@freemansgarage no not Florida.

Man. I'd be ditching all that rear bolt up and fully welding everything. Seems super dodgy to me.
That's not a dumb idea. Your name's not Bruce is it?
Top g
can someone tell me what rear end that is because i thought they only came with an 8 inch
Now I know Where Kevin Tez went...
Here in California you can't buy cars from the just yard, once there in. The title is no longer transferable.
Everything about Cali sucks, America don't want you any more!
Because our government here pushes agendas and doesn’t stand for true American values, thankfully some of us here do
Yeah, this one was in the process... we snatched it at the last minute before it was scrapped... No different here. Thanks for watching!!
8.8 with five lug and disc brakes
Tell me that guy isn't wearing a Wu-flu mask while working on that beautiful American classic. Rrreeeeeee
Why do people continue to use Mustang II front ends when there are many better solutions out there?
Cost for one. It's better than the OE.... and it gives me many options for brakes, steering ,and unlimited engine choice. Thanks for watching!!

I wish the rear suspension mounting points are welded on, not bolt-on.
They might have welded them in place after using bolts to mount them. That's what I would have done.
@@User-nx7rs We can always weld things in place, as well as adding crush-sleeves if we decide to autocross or drive it hard. Thanks for watching!!!
