This surely takes me back! I actually bought a new 1967 Mustang convertible late in 1966. Ordered it with 390, 4 speed, 3.25 locker (which was 9") disk brakes, and power top. Thought it too tame, then a buddy and I thrashed on it for a long weekend, and installed a new 427 long block, which came with a solid lifter cam, lifters, adjustable rockers, push rods, and heads. I don't remember what the compression ratio was, but it liked Sunoco 260. Only hold up came when we went to put the valve covers from the 390 on, and found they wouldn't fit over the adjustable rockers. Had to make a quick trip into town for the right ones, which they actually had on the shelf, in chrome no less! Everything fit, even the exhaust manifolds, and yes, the last couple of plugs on the left were a pain to change. I bought a plug socket with a universal made on it, and used it with a long extension. The end result was a bit of a handful to drive around town with no power steering and sticky Firestone Wide Ovals! I think they were H70-14s. The trans was a 10 bolt top loader Ford, and the clutch was a Long type, and I think it was 12". I sold the car to a co-worker late in 1968. I heard later that he had topped a hill a might too quickly, and didn't have air brakes. RIP John.
This is the second time I've seen your chanll guys love old cars and trucks. Looking forward to seeing the mustang up and running. Good luck with the rest of it. Paddy from Belfast Ireland.
Why all the negative comments . I thought it was cool to save a peice of heritage. I once sold a complete 429 scj engine an trans. With a set of bare low mile scj heads to a ford collector. The engine had been maintained. Good codition . Tried to keep someone elses dream alive too. Heck ,they dont even make that stuff no more thats why it has to go to a collector . Thanks for sharring, guy. I live in detroit michigan
I had no idea you have to use a four foot long crowbar to remove the distributor cap on a 427. I think I must have skipped that page in the ford service manual. Lmao
Does the repair manual have a magical way to make rust disappear? You skipped the part about the motor being exposed to western pa with no hood for 10 years, the distributor was essentially welded to the block inside with rust. So ya, leverage was key in trying to save it. Would love to hear what the UA-cam mechanic would’ve done though, enlighten us
Had one of these in the mid eighties 7T02s169109. 4 spd. However with tach. Dash and fancy steering wheel and wheels. Dark Ivy Moss with black. Body 63B , if my memory serves me well.
Just found your channel. I'm just over the hill from you. Brownsville pa. I'm not sure if any of them can be bought. But a Guy in ohiopyle that worked on the railroad has in a garage. All original 1969 GTO judge a 1970 GTO a1957 Chevrolet and a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible with a 396 Muncie four speed and 410 possie. These car's have been sitting in there for over 40 years. The owner died about four years ago and his son inherited them and will never do anything with them. Not enough ambition. I sure would like to see someone save them.
That must have been one bad ass car in the day those 427 side Oilers were just down right mean if you want to learn more about the numbers and rare it is contract Dennis Collins Texas coffee walk he knows a lot about those cars
I found a 427 in a 63 galaxy that was not cross bolted. Also did not have 352 on drivers block face. But as the other guy pointed out it may have been a service replacement motor.
Monster channel locks and a crow bar to pull the distributor. I hope the factory date codes are still ok from the channel locks and more crow bar while pulling the engine, dents in the shock towers.. This is not an old 1940 Bakery truck. I like your show but how about some penetrating fluid over a few days to ease the crow bar dents in the aluminum manifold, and more. Yes you need to make that cash but a 427 Stang don't come around much. Yes I do like your channel.
Just a good example of you never know what you're buying when it comes to project cars. Pretty sure I'd rather do that work myself so I knew what I really had.
Somebody went to all the trouble & expense of dropping a 427 into their Mustang, but they left the automatic transmission in there? What a shame and waste of time! I hope you guys don’t repeat that mistake. I’m in the process of doing the same thing, but with a ‘66 Fairlane. Younz got a shifter for a T-10 laying around? And yes, I have the clutch pedal assembly & linkage.
Never side-load a shackle like that, one eyelette through the shackle bell, the other through the shackle pin. Or both straps through the bell and the chain to the pin.
I get a hell of lot more selling them for export.. just sold 68 428 R code fastback all original with 52k original miles to a Swiss buyer.. 380 grand.. not bad for 45k purchase.. I sell more impalas bound for Europe than I do lower 48
That looked like a very desirable car when it was new the deluxe interior was an option that was not seen on many Mustang GT cars, Most GT had the regular black dash inserts instead of the Aluminum! the roof and floor Counsils were also desirable. I owned a 1968 fastback back in the late 1960's wish i still had that car, the old trade it every 3 years thing replaced mine with a newer car.
Unfortunately Bill left us about 2 years ago, his body was really taking a beating, we also regrettably had an argument and that was kinda the last straw for him. We still talk and have hashed things out since, bills a great guy, I hope to get him back in here someday but after 5 years of turning wrench for us he was ready for a change of scenery and a less physically demanding work load.
Both of those cars should be restored. The 427 is more than worth its weight in gold...or platinum. I became an accountant. Stupid me. I should have started a business restoring cars like those. There is a UA-camr in Hershey who restores Mustangs rougher than those.
I don't think you have a 427 there. I saw a counterweight on the flex plate and the 427 was zero balance if you pull the heads check for 4.25 bore, 3.78 stroke to be sure.
Just one more thing and I'll shut up. Whoever restores the 67, restomod or not, ought to put a 5 speed manual.in it and ditch the automatic. Clasdic Mustangs with a manual are usually worth more than with an automatic.
Bought that out of a public auction. did a ton of work to it, made it better, acquired the title which took months through an attorney and the state. We added value to the car and made a profit as all businesses do. If you don’t like it, don’t watch
Why in the hell are you pulling that motor with a bobcat man? That's not very bright. It would be so easy to break something on that super rare 427 Fe man. What are you doing?
How is that thing so solid for a PA car. It's funny because I'm actually from Bloomsburg PA and its one in a million to see anything as clean as that.

That Awesome Mustang is fighting with that engine pull.
Love following channels from Pa being a Pa native myself.
WOW! That's nuts how good the interior looked after that crew cleaned it all up. What's going to happen with this car?
it is themost beautiful car in the world😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

I love those old cab overs (COE's)!!!
Fantastic Channell.......you boys are cool as hell.
This was a good find. Red deluxe interior and a 427. Sweet!
I saw both consoles center and overhead! Nice. My 68 has both also.
Ole Boy in the black hoodie is A Bad Man!!!😊
After watching you guys take this Mustang apart, I wouldn't let you guys work on a moped.
Pretty sure you can't even work on your own moped. Let alone real cars. Get a life. Get off the moped

Está bueno ese Mustang felicidades y al señor ,no se su nombre pero es un mecánico maestro , saludos desde Laredo Tamaulipas México
Ever heard of safety stands when underneath the car held up by a hydraulic boom. Obviously you have never seen a cylinder fail. And the car crush you!

It was hard to see when the motor was out I thought all 427 had crossbolt main caps.
They did, except possibly service blocks. The spacers between the side of the main caps were critical, and could be adjusted with shims.
I found a 427 in a 63 galaxy that was not cross bolted. Also did not have 352 on drivers block face. But as the other guy pointed out it may have been a service replacement motor.
tough to watch the original build sheet get sucked up into the vacuum! 😢
I know! Whoosh and it was gone.
He showed those rear drums who's boss though.
Try plastic serving trays. Under the wheels.
Super good job
Carpet and paint, great video, ty
So sick of people flipping these cars when people who actually want them can't find em.
You need to look harder. These guys aren't doing anything you can't do.
Man... That older mechanic really knows' his shit! You can just tell he's been smoking cig's & wrenching on cars his entire life. Cool.
do you have any info on that canister on hard fuel line under the hood? I have the same one and can't find out anything on it.. Much appreciated
