Based on this review, ordered 100, tried them and bought another 100. A real sleeper of a blade that doesn't receive the praise it deserves. Now my favorite blade. Thanks Nick.
Great videos, thanks. Had never tried Permasharps ordered 200 on your recommendation alone ;)
Gillette will never sell DE blades in the North America while they can sell silly cartridges for $20-$30. Every time I find a new blade I like I buy 100-200 of them. with 3-5 shaves a blade, shaving 3-4 times a week, growing a beard during winter. I have enough blades to probably last me two or more life times. With them being so inexpensive I also enjoy sharing them with friends who are interested in starting out in wet shaving.
It's funny started out to get better more comfortable shaves and maybe save some money. I now basically have a shave shop in my bathroom cabinet. With soaps, creams, aftershaves, safety razors, straight razors, strops, hones, brushes and blades. Its a great hobby. I know want to build a new house with my own bathroom
How did you like the Permasharp s?
These are my favourite blades now, sharp and smooth, no irritation or cuts, nicks etc. - excellent blades!
Every time Stirling Soap comes up in my rotation, I am reminded once again what an AMAZING and underrated soap company it is. The lather is creamy as hell and the post shave is fabulous.
Nick, I use a Merker Futur on setting 1, 2 & 3 on my three passes. As some recommend, I tried reversing this to setting 3, 2 & 1 on the three passes on my fav blade (Gillette Silver Blue). The clear advantage is you’re using a milder setting on the third pass when your skin is beginning to get tired. Using the Silver Blue, the first pass on setting 3 was too sore. However when I tried this approach using Perma Sharps, the first pass went fine. I think this is an interesting test to rate a blade. Likewise Lab Blues weren’t as good on the first pass using setting 3. I think this test proves you’re absolutely right; Perma Sharp is the best blade. 👍
Your videos are great, they really help people like me to get a good shave every time.
These have become my favorites too. Great blades.
sorry i need confirms. Do you think that theese blade are better than polsilver SI?
Thanks for introducing me to these blades. They are amazing.
always nice to get one of the best shaves even after doing it for a while. congrats!
Great review as always Nick. Your videos have really been helpful to me these past few months of me getting into wet shaving. I just finished a shave with a permasharp blade. It was in a trial pack I bought from maggard razors. It was a good shave. Thanks again Nick.
Hello from Antalya Turkey. I have used Perma Sharp in my DE89 for a few shaves now and they do a great job. I have noticed over here they are just called Perma Sharp and the blades are clear, no printing.
I really appreciate this man being really particular about every tiny little detail. He really does know what he's doing. Good job.
nice video nick , thorough as always
for sure one of the best blades out there!
Nice review Doc. Keep them coming!
Nick, I visited maggards over the weekend. The owner is awesone, i can't say enough good things about him and his wife. While there purchasing everything I could get my hands on I picked up some perma sharp razors. They're ok, I wasn't too excited by their performance. I also purchased Pol Silvers, give those a try. A very good balance between sharp and smooth, just finished the best zero irritation shave I've had in some time. Try em, you'll be glad you did.
Great review Nick, I knew you would like this razor! Sometimes I get lazy and don't lather up properly, even then this razor rarely cuts me and I got a very coarse beard. This razor is the premium blade in Turkey, they definitely live up to their name!
tried these blades and wow first shave first blade best shave i have ever had.
Just tried these and found it amazing. Found your vid while trying to buy more of them! :)
You just inspired me to give Perma-Sharp a try. That's a brand I would have never considered, so thanks for the review!
Hi Nick, thank you for introducing us to such a cool brush. I think I am going to order one. Awesome video as usual.
Great video Nick! I need to try these ones out for sure. Maybe even do an update on your career. I would be interested to see where you are at, since I have been following you since the beginning basically back in Chicago. Keep the videos coming! You're the man.
Thanks Nick. Tried samples of these after this review & very impressed. Will buy 100 pack next. 👍
Viva perma-sharp. My go-to blade. Thank you.
These and Ladas are my favorites. Sharp and no irritations.
I just bought 400 of these, and 100 GSB's. The Permasharps are fantastic; very sharp, very smooth. In my ATT S1, it feels like they're just wiping away hairs and it's always a BBS!
Hi nickshaves these blades are awesome they are in my top 3 they are smooth and sharp
Stifling soaps make great lather but I find they love the water. Great review Nick.
Great shave Nick. i've been using these blades for the past 15 months and the only thing that can out perform them is the japanese natural waterstone edges on a straight razor. These blades are EPIC in a 37C slant which is a 2 pass ice rink type of shave.
Just picked up a five pack of these and tried them this morning. GREAT blade I must say. It fits me perfectly. Can't use Feathers, they tear my face of, but somehow these work great even if they are really sharp. We have three favourite blades in common; Perma-Sharp, Voskhod and Personna. Derbys also have worked for me but I don't think I will buy more of them.
Thx for your reviews just started sett shaving today. Got the Merkur 38C yesterday and a sample pack of razors. Started with derby. Got a pack of Merkur and solingen, feather and Astra s platinum. Looking forward to the Astra green pack. Think il hold of using the feather until my technique improves. And get my alum stick hahahha
I just purchased these blades which you highly recommend. I'm super excited to try them out when I receive them next week. Cheers again for a great video.
Great review
Another great blade review, Nick. I've recently tried the Perma-Sharp blades as well and I have been very impressed with them. We seem to have similar preferences when it comes to blades. I'd say try Sputnik blades next time. These performed really well for me.
Astra SP has been my go to, but I might have to try these out. Great review!
Astra SP's are my go to blades and I wonder how these compare
Я тоже люблю эти лезвия. В шаветте показали себя мягкими, но в то же время острыми и эффективными.
Nick, I had to come back and tell you these things are great.
This is my favourite blade; Permasharp as well as Derby Premium also Rapira Platinium Lux my top 3 blades but Permasharp is my most favourite between them, honourable mention goes to Astra Superior Platinum
Nice review!
Really like your channel. Still trying to find a blade a really like but gave these a try after seeing your review and love them. They work great in ej d89 and still to try them in my merkur
The perma-sharp blades are excellent in my more mild razors. In my aggressive razors, I prefer Voskhods. Great review Nick
I have to wait till the summer when I get bunch of sun to use my razors skin so sensitive .. I got merkur 34c love it ..ej 89 it's ok and a merkur 39c scared to use it ..got my 830 boar haven't use it but damn so much backbone got a ton of soaps in but no sterling
cannot agree more with you Nick, i love these blades - they are my number 1, super sharp and super smooth and i can easily get 15 + shaves out of them
Zagarne wow how can u manage 15 shaves. I never even try to get more than 3 shaves from my blades!!!
@@byrnedes because he's a straight-up goon. You're right. no blade should ever be used more than twice if that. God I can't imagine how awful 6 shaves of a blade would be much less 15. Microscopic burrs will form after just one shave of a man's copper wire toughness beard.
The edge of a double-edged blade is so thin, the toughness of them is nothing when cutting through coarse beard hair... you ever notice how Barber's will hone and strop their straight razors before every shave?
These chips and burrs can easily be seen under microscope after just one shave which means the second use of any double edge razor blade will pull and tug more. even if you don't feel it, it can lead to more irritation well as being unsanitary if not properly sanitized with alcohol which rarely anyone does. These guys crack me up using blades for 5-10-15 shaves when they're not even saving enough pennies to buy an appetizer at dinner at the end of the year but instead are getting rougher shaves.
The mere fact that any human could be that frugal at the cost of their own face & sanitation baffles my mind. Do not let these fools convince you to reuse blades. Enjoy your proper smooth clean sanitary shave every time!
They aren't hurting anyone but themselves (& their own faces)
Great video Nick. I'll have to give those blades a try.
I just ordered some. Can't wait to run them. Thanks again..
sorry i need confirms. Do you think that theese blade are better than polsilver SI?
I tend to have problems getting super close around my chin too. So I keep a 4-5 blade cartridge razor around for buffing that area.
It would be great to hear a follow-up on the life of the blade. I just bough a Merkur Solingen razor that came with a Merkur blade. The first shave with the Merkur blade was fantastic! Second shave eh. Not even close to the first shave.
Possibly my favourite blade. Right up there with Voskhod blades for a great daily driver. About to try some Dorco Prime Platinums for a review... Should be interesting to see what the Korean blade brings
This blade works very well in my 34C as long as you don't subject it to more than a couple of days worth of growth and a heavy beard. It seems to lose it's edge quickly when subjected to extreme conditions. Its performance seems to be best with extreme
and heavy growth when a slant type of razor is used, such as the Merkur 39C. With this razor the edge doesn't seem to fade. It produces consistent results. A plus with this blade and with the Astra Platinum is that the sides are numbered so that you can keep track of the number of shaves that you've exposed them to.
Got a pack of these yesterday, haven't tried them yet
Ha! I had a pack of these left from a sampler I bought a year back but I resisted these because of the cheesy art work LOL. I loaded one up in my ATT S2 and I have to say...YOU'RE RIGHT! ! - smooth out of the wrapper and pretty sharp with it. It is now a top 3 blade in my Den I think (after I test in a few more of my razors).
So far Personna are my fave.
Nick... great reviews... I like the fact that you explain a bit about the ingredients of each shaving soap/cream. You have done reviews of some "great" and expensive ones. Recently I received a gift card from "the art of shaving" and bought my self a set of the sandalwood shaving cream and after shave balm. CAN YOU DO A REVIEW ABOUT IT? Thanks.
Hey Nick You should do a review of the Van Der Hagen Shave Butter it comes in a orange tube you can usually get it online or at your local rite aid
Shaved with one of these for the first time a few days ago. It was so sharp it felt like there was no hair there at all. It makes a Feather feel about as sharp as a stick of licorice. I didn't think that was possible.
I bought a 100 pack of these early on in my wetshaving journey and they became my go to. Eventually, I tried Astra SPs and thought they may be the same blade but cheaper. Still not sure, but feel they are close at the very least.
zec668 tried Astra SPs but gave away second half of 100 pack as good shave but inconsistent. Of the 50 blades I used 2 separate blades were rough & cut the heck out of my face. Blood all over the place!!! Lost all trust in Astra after that & will never use again.
First of all, I am a big fan of your videos and you. They are smashing. But, I am wondering if you can do a wet shaving guide for teenage skin. Very sensitive skin, how to deal with acne/pimples while shaving, how to clean your face in the shower, what products you think will suit teenage skin etc. Keep up the good work.
These and astra sp are my favourite blades
Are they sharper than the Astra SP?
+Blue Gear about the same to me but I prefer the permasharp just a little more
I'm going to have to try these
My favourite right now is gillette super platinum. The Polsilver, GSB, and Lab Blues are my other go to blades.
What is your opinion of Jack Black facial care products? Could you do a review of the Beard Lube shaving lube? Just curious as to how it stacks up against the various soaps and creams you've used. Thanks
hey Nick, I just wanted to say I have been watching some of your DE razor blade reviews and I have found them to be very helpful! I have sensitive skin, maybe not as much as you do, maybe a little less so, but I started with Derby blades and I just can't get as close as I would like to. I am thinking about getting either Personna lab blue or Astra SP DE blades. unless you have any other suggestions for me that might be better? I need sharpness but also really good smoothness. I also prep my face really well before every shave. any suggestions? or should I go with what I'm thinking and see how it goes?
+nick shaves what do you do with your blades when you discard them? I know some razors have blade banks on the back, but what do you do when you get blades in a cardboard box?
Great channel man. Just curious what blade do you think has the best combo of smoothness and sharpness? for me it's Polsilver thus far
Another solid vid, Nick! Can you please review The New York Shaving Company Elizabeth Street Shaving Cream 4 FL Oz?
i got 2 questions if you dont mind. Do you use hot or cold for blooming and whats your take on using a bowl for lathering?
I find with my Omega pro boars I soak them fully then let them dry for 12-24 hours and by the next shave the backbone is perfect. Strong whilst not being hard to splay.
I can't believe how soft my 10049 has become. It's actually as soft as my AceShaving silvertip.
Hey nick what do you think about the MÜHLE CLASSIC STYLE SILVER TIP brush and have you tried Muhle shaving soaps ?
Have you tried Brickell mens shave products? What do you think about the if so?
Hey nick you should try to review the Chicago sweet comb bees wax shave soap I never have heard of soap with bees wax
Nick interested in your thoughts on reviewing a strop?
Hi Nick,
have you ever tried Bolzano Superinox blades? Joe from RazoRock/Italian Barber recommended them to me. They're supposed to be sharper than Feather. If you've used them, how would you compare them to these Perma Sharp?
Cheers man!
Wondering what you think of Gillette Platinum. AOS sells 5 for $6, and while I think they are overpriced, I'm impressed by the smoothness, longevity, and decent sharpness. I have 100 pack of Permasharp's and they are sharp but not as forgiving or long lasting. Thoughts?
hey Nick what razor do you recommend for a beginner interested in safety razor shaving.
Hey Nick! I remember you mentioning in a previous video that you make your own soap that you use in the shower, I was curious what your recipe is for your soap!
Amazing blades for true! Very sharp but amazing smooth !!!
sorry i need confirms. Do you think that theese blade are better than polsilver SI?
I think that they are pretty much the same!
thanks...polsilver is a little bit cheaper. And i shave once a week or even once every 2 weeks, so i throw blade after every use.
Perma sharp is very long lasting but i dont need a long lasting blade. I need a sharp&smooth blade. At the moment perma sharp is my top blade but i have to pay 20€ for 100 and 15€ for 100 PolSI. :)
To be totally honest I have the feeling that Polsilver are a little more sharper ... at least for me ...
i agree with nick. perma sharp is a little bit sharper and smoother than polsilver si
I want to know what you think of Col Conk's Shave Soap. I bought the variety 4 pack on Amazon for $13.
Since you are adding this blade to your rotation can you please tell us what blades are in your rotation? Thanks and great review.
can you do a video on your favorite soap/cream scents?
hey nick.. I'm looking at a Gillette fat boy red dot. any idea what it's worth. it's in excellent condition thanks
You said Astra SP and Dorco prime were very good too. How do these perma sharps compare to Astra SP and Dorco prime?
hey Nick, if you haven't already, could you do a video on the Gillette Super Thin blades? Also, if you could, on the Pinaud Clubman Shave Soap?
Are they better then the feather blades?
did my first wet shave tonight. not very good skill wise lol but I will keep practicing
The hair on the side of my chin goes sideways, kind of like how you described your haor also, but if i try to go from my ear to the center of my chin when going across the grain, i get absolutely torn up lol. i can only go up and down in that area since i too, cannot shave against the grain. whats the secret ? lol
How many shaves with that blade you think you can get
perma-sharp super is a really good razor blade
And I'll look into that brush too.
Hola Nick, do you find similarities between the russian made Gellettes?
any plans to review GSB?
Barbasol yellow next!!
I bought some! I may use it tonight
Hey I'm new to the game, I bought a cheap starter kit and the escali badger brush really irritates my skin.. Is this how all brushes are? If so, are there less harsh brushes out there? Thanks. Love your vids.
The escali badger brush is very prickly. It's a cheap badger brush, and that's how they feel most of the time unless you spend a lot of money. May I suggest a synthetic brush. Try the stirling 24 mm from stirlingsoaps.com or the plissoft from Italianbarber.com. They're both excellent brushes, and very affordable. Good luck!
hello
FEATHER Hi-Stainless Platinum Double Edge
or
Perma-Sharp Double Edge Safety Razor Blades
who is better
For me... PermaSharp
Nick where do yo buy your shave soaps/brushes ?
why you using two after shaves?
How do they compare to feathers in therms of sharpness and smoothness?
Feathers are sharper but you do feel it andccan be rough sometimes. These are abit sharper than Astra Sp but smoother. Good blade.
when it comes to aftershave which one is best, alcohol aftershave or balm aftershave?
+Danny Cetino not wanting to steal nicks thunder here but a rule of thumb is alcohol dries the skin whereas balm moisturises it. therefore it's down to your skin type. if you have oily skin use lotion (alcohol) but if you have dry skin use balm. if you use balm on oily skin it will make your skin greasy, if you use lotion on dry skin it will really dry your skin out. this is just what's best for your skin but it's all down to personal preference in the end. hope this helps.
Hello,
Sorry in the first place because this is not directly related to your video. However, I would like to ask some questions and suggestions. I use straight razor, the ones you fold the blade into it, I'm still a newbie at it and I managed not to cut myself more than once. I used several cartridge razors like Gillette Fusion with 4-5 blades and others with different numbers of blades, and few electric shavers. The problem is that the burn after shaving. Even though when I started to use straight razor, the burn was reduced, but it is still there, so I use
after shave products for the razor burn. Is it the safety razor that you use prevents the razor burn, or you just ignore the burn? I cannot prevent myself not to use anything after shaving to reduce that burn.
I use straight razor with Derby blade and that Perma-sharp blade, I don't use the blades more than twice, mostly once, l mostly shave after shower and my facial hair is kinda soft. I have no idea what I do wrong. Would you suggest anything for the burn, and I never used the safety razor you use.
+Bubnova Head to reddit subreddit wicked_edge. You'll get a lot of answers to your questions. As for burn, that is mostly shave technique.
Nick - after 6 weeks since you did this review - do you still like the Perma-Sharp Super blades as one of your best? I am going to order them if you say yes.
Perma-Sharp blades belong in the safety-razor blade collection..Duly noted :) . How many shaves do you think one blade would last for someone with a medium-grained beard, Nick?
Hey buddy have you been busy at the hospital? Miss your videos!
Nick - can you highlight your top 5 blades thus far?
I'll do a video eventually, but thus far: personna lab blue, feather, Voskhod, Gillette 7oc SS, and perm-sharp
nick shaves Thanks Nick. Just wondering if you tried the Rapira SS? I saw your review on other Rapira, but not the SS version. I found that blade comparible to the smoothness of the Gilette 7 oc SS...
Chris
