Thanks for this update on this whole situation it was really helpful, but something I just don't get about NFT'S are if it's a drawing of an ape, or drawing of anything, why do people give it so much value paying hundreds of thousands for art, like having the ownership or whatever on the image isn't worth that much, but I don't fully know how NFT'S work so maybe it's more valuable than I think
The original concept for UA-cam was Broadcast Yourself... now it seems it's targeted toward being Broadcast Companies instead. This greatly saddens me in the way that they're going. I really do want the dislike button to actually show the amount of dislikes. Not this bullshit that the viewers see as the dislike button while the creator sees the exact amount of dislikes. This isn't helping the creators; it's putting them into the trash fire they've continue to light up under their asses for fun.
Why would you want the dislikes to be shown? It’s a perfect thing that they finally got rid of those stupid dislikes! No more dislikes on The Emoji Movie, The Long Haul, Nintendo Switch Online videos, MY videos, Teen Titans Go videos, modern SpongeBob videos or any Trump videos! I get spam dislikes all the time, and they’re usually in higher amounts than likes, which I can’t stand. How can a video I work hard on get spam disliked and outweigh the number of real likes!? It’s just ludicrous that this happens to me on almost every video I make. SO STOP HATING ON UA-cam FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING AND REMOVING SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE EVEN EXISTED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
UA-cam is hunting after trends even worse than clickbait UA-camrs. Everytime something "New" comes out (Twitch, TikTok, NFTs) they always try to jack that trend, but make it so lacking, so unusable, so BORING that it's basically just a parody of the real thing. UA-cam Streaming is MILES behind Twitch. UA-cam Shorts is MILES behind TikTok. And their NFT adventure will be EVEN worse than actual NFTs (if that's even possible). Why can't they just focus on one thing, make that the best they could, and then move on to something new man..
I heard an analogy to yacht competition where the first place always mimic the one behind him so the others will never take lead. Every tech afraid to become blackberry and these are preventative actions for that, bad actions!!
imagine time travelling back to 2015 and having to explain that youtube is going to remove the dislike button and replace it with pictures of apes that cost $700,000 each.
As someone who has been in the online art world for a very long time, NFTs are a special kind of stupid. It’s sad to see a company like UA-cam sink so low. Defending a creator is fantastic, but it feels like we’re celebrating what should be the bare minimum. And this is also the only instance I’ve seen them actually take the side of a creator. Ever. And with the announcement of adding NFTs, it really makes you question where the future of this site is going.
It's always one step forward, two steps back with UA-cam. I just heard about them making it so that certain specific videos that are "too popular" cannot be watched.
One of my Uncles once told me that tattoos were a sign of people having too much money and no idea of what to do with it. NFTs have now swooped in the take that crown.
It doesn't sound too bad on paper honestly, starving artists getting a chance to make some money And if they sell it they can get a % commission if the buyer sells it for a higher price. That said I don't know too much about it so it might just turn out to be one of the biggest scams ever.
I think an excellent example of UA-cam being an abhorrent and slimy wretch is looking back on a video Charlie made titled "I talked With The CEO of UA-cam". What was initially presented as a hopeful and possible breakthrough to UA-cam and its creators turned out to be façade UA-cam set Charlie up to represent. That entire situation with the phone call was classic damage control and telling him what he wanted to hear, and then having Charlie present these false promises to the public. It reminded me too much of an event that happened at my Highschool where an athlete repeatedly sexually harassed women, and the school refused to punish him. A walkout ensued and when students arrived to the board of education, they did the exact same thing UA-cam did, damage control and pretended to care. Nothing was changed, the harasser in question never got punished, and it was all swept under the rug. When I first watched Charlie's video where he talked to the CEO, I felt so disheartened knowing that it was all a giant lie. UA-cam will never change and it's extremely depressing.
Wow first of all thats really messed up and im sorry to hear that. Secondly i really had some hope there for a sec when he had talked to susan, i think one of these days a good alternative for youtube will come out and they're gonna have to listen to their users.
A new platform for videos just wouldn't work, not enough funds, popularity/recognition, ect. Although UA-cam does have a lot of issues with their platform, they also have some extremely beneficial impacts.
Maybe the problem lies in the fact that new platforms do already exist but people would rather moan and complain on youtube than move to a new platform
as someone who loved youtube during the 2009-2013 era, very sad how hard it is to make videos nowadays considering youtube's rules now + copyright claim rules

I feel that too in some capacity, but the executives definitely don’t make it easy for the platform since they are so tone-deaf with everything that the community wants and doesn’t want. I’m just hoping for something big to happen so UA-cam can have competition and hopefully see myself less on this platform if there is a big competitor.

I used to do online medieval roleplay with this guy back in 2016, and we still voice-call occasionally. Some people there have made arguments for it like how statistically its the most negative thing on youtube or whatever, but its such a strange thing to simply refuse any criticism for.
I like how none of them thought that some videos are potentially harmful, so removing the dislike counts would make the people fell victim to these videos. Thus showing... UA-cam doesn't care about the people's online safety.

Another moment that points out how unorganised the inner workings of youtube must be. It feels like UA-cam staff just don’t communicate or agree on any single thought process for how to run the site so you have cool caring people like the guys who helped out mark and out of touch oldies who want to implement nft’s both working completely separately

Uh, there is a bunch and they are on wallstreet now also... for sure. Rumble is one, Gab is another on its own networks also, untouchable. And many others like Odysee and DLive for streaming and getting donations.
and before anyone says anything.. Reuters and nypost are big reporters who have daily updates on Rumble, its on stock market now as well... many big news people are on there now, reuters is one of the biggest internationally.
There's also the fact that creators could already decide whether likes or dislikes are displayed. UA-cam's obvious lie regarding their reasoning behind removing dislikes is partly why people are pushing back so hard against it.
“They did something amazing and then ruined it” is a great way to sun up UA-cam nowadays. You know it’s bad when the creator of an app hates where it has gone.

It never ceases to amaze me how these companies can not only make such ridiculous decisions like this, but also double down. I’m repeating what Charlie said, but it’s still taking me a long second to process.

I'm here for my favorite creators, not the platform itself. I really wish an actual competitor to UA-cam existed so they'd stop abusing their monopoly(well, basically a monopoly).

@Ayaan26 for firefox it’s called return youtube dislike button. I don’t remember what it was called for chrome but if you search in extensions for youtube dislike, it’ll probably show up. It works flawlessly. And i agree, i use the dislike ratio to get a general opinion on the quality of the video
@@FatalShotGG So the best case scenario is deleting dislikes everywhere without regarding the multiple videos of tutorials? Dislikes help in tutorials in finding if its useful or not, alot of dislikes? Not useful, and now we only have likes and time to waste to find out if its actually useful.
Just because of how people use it effects the entire community, it's like the teacher giving everyone a F- since the class clown annoyed her too much.
Because they think others will pay more for it because of the rarity value. People associate rarity with value so people buy them
The original concept for UA-cam was Broadcast Yourself... now it seems it's targeted toward being Broadcast Companies instead. This greatly saddens me in the way that they're going. I really do want the dislike button to actually show the amount of dislikes. Not this bullshit that the viewers see as the dislike button while the creator sees the exact amount of dislikes. This isn't helping the creators; it's putting them into the trash fire they've continue to light up under their asses for fun.
completely agreed.
You can download a browser add-on that gives the dislikes back too lol so it truly was a useless endeavor
