how about the shadow-bans? I've recently seen "2+ replies below" yet when i click on a thread, _no_ comments are available - where are they? I assume they've been shadow-banned for saying something YT didn't like to be said.
Injustice amongst actual people who are victims of cyber bullying like seriously people lile me can no longer properly defend themselves in the comment sections because we can't speak our minds and the bastards that deserve it not only get away with it but even if you report them they still get away with it
Easiest way I've noticed to spot bots: random letters being capitalized in the middle of sentences, punctuation not making sense, so apostrophes where they shouldn't be, random stuff like the bit at 6:35, where at the end, there's a space before the exclamation marks. It seems like a majority of bots still aren't sophisticated enough to write like humans. Also, and they either over use or never use short forms. Also, blocks and filters on certain words to combat it is annoying to real people who are just trying to comment and happened to use that word or phrase
Thank you this is actually a video I would have made not just yt but ig and other social media comments is fkn terrible! Sometimes wanna get their ips and show up unannounced on that shady shxt or something ugh
Linus Tech Tips showcased a seemingly pretty solid solution to this issue, better than UA-cam's one at least. Worth checking out for any creator with this problem imo. It's some third party algorithm that just finds all the copy & pasted comments, bot names and other bullcrap that it can with variable degrees of acuity, and gives the user some options with what to do with them, from just deleting it all to reporting & blocking them and such.
Sucks that creators would have to do that tho. Also idk how UA-cam's guidelines work but with social media sites like Instagram, they don't actually allow this and you can get an action block and forced to change your password. Is this allowed on youtuve or is linus just doing a yolo ?
The bot problem honestly makes it feel like the audience who interact the most with content are being punished for it. Like, people leaving comments obviously want to talk about a video and will very much be staying on & returning to the site to continue doing so. Considering the removal of dislikes it's also the way people can better get an idea of a video and decide if they want to keep watching. I feel like any decently run company would want to make sure those comment sections are not garbage??
I'm just worried that this will pave the way for websites to start mandating proof of personal identification in order to use it's service in the name of "preventing bots". It's bad enough that it seems like most main sites now require you to give them your phone number, that would have been unheard of in the early internet days, but now people seem just fine with doing it knowing how untrustworthy these companies are. I'm afraid they're going to use this outrage over bot spam in order to give us a solution that gets more information out of us. And we'll happily go along because "uh bot comments so annoying". I could be over thinking it, but it is a thought I can't shake.
bro i hate the bots that say: "can we all just appreciate the time and effort this guy takes to make us happy" and it be under a 10s video that someone took from twitch with no editing at all
there's a few videos out there covering the situation with these suspicious verified channels, and alot of the evidence points to them being hacked channels that previously were actually run by legitimate youtubers (thus being verified and having lots of subscribers) however these hackers took the channels and sold them on some wacky youtube black market. shit is wild
The fact that UA-cam can remove dislikes for no reason and then proceed to take absolutely no action on something like this is astonishing. I really hope they actually do something.
Its only astonishing if you dont understand that youtube works for the advertising money and not for quality social interactions. Bots puffing up comment and view numbers good. Dislikes making people react negatively to advertisements/sponsors bad. Pretty simple stuff. Remember: you are the product not the customer.
Your very creative in finding so many subjects about the simplicity of a hat taken maybe for granted..IA hat that you choose with a senof honesty about how it loos REALLY otherwise you will feel self conscious and always figiting with it.
@@Vagrant7z I mean they could, but Google’s recapture is impossible to complete unless you’re a human. So, those spam bots would need to be verified manually.

100% This is why Rumble and Odysee are the new UA-cams. I say this as someone who had an account in 2004, lost it in 2012, and then made this one I have now. UA-cam is dead.
This is the exact reason I’ve decided to stop commenting on videos I like, cause then I get bombarded with comments from people spamming that I’m a bot. Honestly UA-cam needs to fix this!
We need more content creators to address this issue. Sean and Charles just aren't enough. It's a growing issue that has been going on, and reporting them doesn't do anything. They keep bypassing the comment filters no matter what you try.
Both JerryRigEverything and MKBHD have addressed it on Twitter. Apparently UA-cam just tells them to report the comments and/or delete them but come now... why put it on the user to "fix" the problem. just sounds lazy to me
I'm glad that people are talking about this now, instead of just ignoring it. For a while it seemed like the main response was "since they're trolling we're going to address it by letting them do whatever while we say nothing to not give them the satisfaction", and it felt like not stopping a person that's stabbing you bc you might get stabbed. I actually reported so many bot channels at one point that UA-cam gave me an automatic warning that false reports would suspend my account and I just kind of sat there like "Really? I could lose my account for reporting too many bots"
@@iareolmedo7838 That was my point. Reporting individually as we see them isn't working, so creators need to speak out so that UA-cam is forced to fix their platform.
Verified comment bots give a bad reputation to smaller verified youtubers:'( Edit: I meant that all the comments on a verified ytber comment are just "comment bot" nowadays. Even if that person isnt a bot. It's annoying to see it everyday. That's what I mean with bad reputation.
@@Kurimi13 I mean, it's meant to denote that the content creator is the real content creator and not an impersonator. Makes sense for anyone who makes content to get the checkmark, but yeah, bots having it does render it meaningless.
UA-cam shouldn't push verified comments up so much. Most verified creators post one sentence comments that don't add shit (no offense). About 8 out of the top 10 comments are verified users on this vid, it's ridiculous.
I've noticed one on Danny Gonzalez's videos. They all are from the same account and say something like "Danny's videos are great to listen to while eating!" or something weirdly specific like that.
I still don't understand why they do it unless it's just to say a bit "screw you UA-cam" because they won't fix it. It's not like they make money from comment likes, and I can't imagine anyone actually clicking on those bots' profiles with tig biggies expecting anything (unless they're like 7 years old and their parents have a parental lock on their internet)
I feel so bad for Jack, I don't watch him often, but he really doesn't deserve the hate, especially when it comes to an extremely sensitive subject like his dad's death
I remember one "bot" was leaving "Amazing content, have a great day and keep up the good work!" on every damn video, but it wasn't a bot, it was an actual person who just really like congratulating people - it was an experience
I was watching a longplay of a game and one person would leave an identical comment on every video, but they had actual content on their channel, so I took a chance and asked them if they were a bot and they said no they just couldn't think of anything to say.
i can totally relate with them lol I'm not too good at commenting and communicating with others too,, reading this made me have some faith in humanity again
I think my favorite was when there was a new DYKG video and I saw three comments that all said something like "Can we appreciate how much time was put into this?" Copy and pasted with a different timestamp, every time stamp was at a time after the video would be over
I swear if UA-cam's answer to this problem is a "captcha", I quit. Imagine having to "select each image that include stop lights" just to say, "great vid keep it up."
Doesn't sound like a bad idea tbh. 4chan does something similar where you do 1 captcha and you can post comments for like a 10 or so minutes before having to do the captcha again
you mentioned that there's no way to combat the comment bots, but i'm fairly certain that's not true? i'm pretty sure linus tech tips made a video covering a programme that you can run to like completely wipe out comment bots, and it even has different levels based on how deep you want to clean your comments
That *is* true, but it's very inefficient for large UA-camrs and the API limits make it mostly impossible to delete everything! Commenters can use the tool to mass report spam comments but this is something UA-cam could easily code a fix for.
Is Linus Tech Tips trans? I got freaked out on one time under a Destiny video because I apparently “misgendered” Linus tech tips (person wasn’t joking btw).

Yeah, not just jack. I've seen Mark and Cory get these kind of comments too. Basically any bigger UA-camr who had some sort of loss is gonna get inflammatory comments about it.
@@nekuro5548 yea facts, the main point just proves how hypocritical UA-cam is about negativity, they let this stuff slide while they remove dislike buttons and refuse to address REAL concerns from the community
I bet if UA-cam does decide to fix this... Everyone is going to have to complete a reCAPTCHA test before commenting. They always come up with the worst possible ways to solve problems, just like removing the dislike button.
Charlie, thank you very much for addressing this issue. The type of bots I hate most are the ones that say terrible things about Markiplier’s late niece and Jack’s late father. These really need to be dealt with and wiped off the platform as soon as possible.
I agree but why do these dudes make family passings or who passed pbblic? Ig you have to have a reason to take a break but u don't have to say who, coz u know they're gonna bully u
And now UA-cam shadowbans completely normal comments without the creator or user knowing about it. I rather see occasional bots than being constantly censored and yt pretending the comment is still there, making people waste their time talking into the void.
Potential fixes: Users are given temp bans from commenting and are manually reviewed if they have hyper repetitious comment histories indicating spam Have regular review of verified channels and a higher standard of verification to confirm they are legitimate and produce original content Generally improve the review system so that reports of spam are actually dealt with UA-cam's likely solution: We've removed verification for non-corporate accounts for the mental health of our creators
That's the worst thing - they aren't being deleted, they're just being hidden. It's censorship of the worst kind because the comment is still visible to you but nobody else can see it. I find it infuriating to see my comment but when I change browsers/devices and view it from a different source, it makes me realise it's hidden from everyone's view except my own.
@@TonyEnglandUKAdd to the fact the comment can still get hidden even if there’s nothing vulgar or inappropriate about it which is ridiculous. And they don’t even give you a reason why
@@RB01.10 Exactly, it's bizarre. Just for my own curiosity, I went through various phrases then switched browsers to see which ones UA-cam allowed and which they didn't. For reasons only they will know, when I typed "Yes it is" it got hidden every time but typing "No it isn't" showed every time. I don't think even they know what they are doing with these filters.
Not only that but I suspect the “top” comment filter is also to blame because no one bothers to check NEW comments neither, if you aren’t “top” you are forever ignored or at best liked and replied by ONE other user who isn’t lazy to change the filter to “new”.
i recently watched a video where apparently "only verified people could comment", due to the comment filter i guess. However, majority of the comments on the video was these bots (or spam channels for that matter). It ruins the experience of a video if i should be fair. This should be discussed more often

Current problems with UA-cam
1. No dislikes
2. Allows scam ads
3. Doesn’t delete scam channels until it’s too late
4. Never tries to delete bot scam comments
5. Never tries to delete bot pron comments
6. Allows people to do false copyright strikes
7. Didn’t reinforce that UA-cam is 13+
8. Makes any video that has no curse words, “made for kids”
9. Made for kids option in the first place
10. Allowing channels that exploit children
11. Never bats an eye at verified bots/spammers
12. Lies
13. Destroyed small channels at this point
14. Does nothing with reported content, channels, or comments
15. Only acts when it’s all over the place on Twitter
16. The new manager…
17. Sexual Ads
18. Wrongful Demonetization
19. Greediness

true bro
20. Companies can easily censure UA-camrs with copyright claims.
how about the shadow-bans? I've recently seen "2+ replies below" yet when i click on a thread, _no_ comments are available - where are they? I assume they've been shadow-banned for saying something YT didn't like to be said.
Injustice amongst actual people who are victims of cyber bullying like seriously people lile me can no longer properly defend themselves in the comment sections because we can't speak our minds and the bastards that deserve it not only get away with it but even if you report them they still get away with it
21. UA-cam keeps saying bullsh*t about them "caring" for their community and creators while in reality they couldn't care less about them
The fact that UA-cam removed the dislike button tells you they don’t care about us. Censorship at its finest. Meanwhile bots spam all day.

I made a comment on a channel infested with bots like matpat, saying that there will be a bot commenting soon, and would you know it! A bot commented
@Silverstein this video is literally made on you
Easiest way I've noticed to spot bots: random letters being capitalized in the middle of sentences, punctuation not making sense, so apostrophes where they shouldn't be, random stuff like the bit at 6:35, where at the end, there's a space before the exclamation marks. It seems like a majority of bots still aren't sophisticated enough to write like humans. Also, and they either over use or never use short forms. Also, blocks and filters on certain words to combat it is annoying to real people who are just trying to comment and happened to use that word or phrase
Are we gonna forget about the bots that say something like "my farts smell better than Charlie's". That one is insane lol

the bots from TF2 had to find a new medium at some point.
I had the same shit mutliple times but it was to some kettle getting fire crackers put into it... Was weird
Lmao coincidence to see you here
Sucks that creators would have to do that tho. Also idk how UA-cam's guidelines work but with social media sites like Instagram, they don't actually allow this and you can get an action block and forced to change your password. Is this allowed on youtuve or is linus just doing a yolo ?
kudos to TheoJoe for developing it
Tbh I’ve never had any problems with bots never come across them at least to my knowledge
