Verified comment bots give a bad reputation to smaller verified youtubers:'( Edit: I meant that all the comments on a verified ytber comment are just "comment bot" nowadays. Even if that person isnt a bot. It's annoying to see it everyday. That's what I mean with bad reputation.
@@Kurimi13 I mean, it's meant to denote that the content creator is the real content creator and not an impersonator. Makes sense for anyone who makes content to get the checkmark, but yeah, bots having it does render it meaningless.
UA-cam shouldn't push verified comments up so much. Most verified creators post one sentence comments that don't add shit (no offense). About 8 out of the top 10 comments are verified users on this vid, it's ridiculous.

I'm not talking about me calling sombody a faggot and getting my comment removed, which even then should not be removed, I'm talking about me getting my comment removed because I told someone to shut up or because I disagreed with what was said in the video. seeing all these bots somehow bypass this filtration system kinda makes me jealous ngl
@@toasty9670 how would deleting comments be great. banning these bots is not that hard. lots of youtubers have created scripts that could remove these bots with no effort. youtube just needs to understand its community.
This is the exact reason I’ve decided to stop commenting on videos I like, cause then I get bombarded with comments from people spamming that I’m a bot. Honestly UA-cam needs to fix this!
To me, the worst comments of all are those "Can we appreciate how much effort he put into this video for us?" They are like a Hivemind, saying the same thing each video.
Yeah like every comment is a circle jerk and they are totally in love with the channel, like it is the greatest thing they have ever seen, and the euphoric high they are getting from the video is just pure bliss. It is sickening.
there's a few videos out there covering the situation with these suspicious verified channels, and alot of the evidence points to them being hacked channels that previously were actually run by legitimate youtubers (thus being verified and having lots of subscribers) however these hackers took the channels and sold them on some wacky youtube black market. shit is wild
The bot problem honestly makes it feel like the audience who interact the most with content are being punished for it. Like, people leaving comments obviously want to talk about a video and will very much be staying on & returning to the site to continue doing so. Considering the removal of dislikes it's also the way people can better get an idea of a video and decide if they want to keep watching. I feel like any decently run company would want to make sure those comment sections are not garbage??
you mentioned that there's no way to combat the comment bots, but i'm fairly certain that's not true? i'm pretty sure linus tech tips made a video covering a programme that you can run to like completely wipe out comment bots, and it even has different levels based on how deep you want to clean your comments
That *is* true, but it's very inefficient for large UA-camrs and the API limits make it mostly impossible to delete everything! Commenters can use the tool to mass report spam comments but this is something UA-cam could easily code a fix for.
Is Linus Tech Tips trans? I got freaked out on one time under a Destiny video because I apparently “misgendered” Linus tech tips (person wasn’t joking btw).
Linus Tech Tips showcased a seemingly pretty solid solution to this issue, better than UA-cam's one at least. Worth checking out for any creator with this problem imo. It's some third party algorithm that just finds all the copy & pasted comments, bot names and other bullcrap that it can with variable degrees of acuity, and gives the user some options with what to do with them, from just deleting it all to reporting & blocking them and such.
Sucks that creators would have to do that tho. Also idk how UA-cam's guidelines work but with social media sites like Instagram, they don't actually allow this and you can get an action block and forced to change your password. Is this allowed on youtuve or is linus just doing a yolo ?
bro i hate the bots that say: "can we all just appreciate the time and effort this guy takes to make us happy" and it be under a 10s video that someone took from twitch with no editing at all
We need more content creators to address this issue. Sean and Charles just aren't enough. It's a growing issue that has been going on, and reporting them doesn't do anything. They keep bypassing the comment filters no matter what you try.
Both JerryRigEverything and MKBHD have addressed it on Twitter. Apparently UA-cam just tells them to report the comments and/or delete them but come now... why put it on the user to "fix" the problem. just sounds lazy to me
i recently watched a video where apparently "only verified people could comment", due to the comment filter i guess. However, majority of the comments on the video was these bots (or spam channels for that matter). It ruins the experience of a video if i should be fair. This should be discussed more often
The fact that UA-cam can remove dislikes for no reason and then proceed to take absolutely no action on something like this is astonishing. I really hope they actually do something.
Its only astonishing if you dont understand that youtube works for the advertising money and not for quality social interactions. Bots puffing up comment and view numbers good. Dislikes making people react negatively to advertisements/sponsors bad. Pretty simple stuff. Remember: you are the product not the customer.
100% This is why Rumble and Odysee are the new UA-cams. I say this as someone who had an account in 2004, lost it in 2012, and then made this one I have now. UA-cam is dead.
I feel so bad for Jack, I don't watch him often, but he really doesn't deserve the hate, especially when it comes to an extremely sensitive subject like his dad's death
The checkmarks that are copying and pasting comments everywhere aren’t bots. They just manipulate the add permissions feature in UA-cam Studio to add a bunch of “managers” to comment for them
I try to avoid commenting a bit more on bigger channels because like you said my notifications are going through the roof whenever I do it has been getting worse in the past year since I loved commenting but nowadays I get accused of stuff like this because of these guys copy pasting comments
I remember one "bot" was leaving "Amazing content, have a great day and keep up the good work!" on every damn video, but it wasn't a bot, it was an actual person who just really like congratulating people - it was an experience
I was watching a longplay of a game and one person would leave an identical comment on every video, but they had actual content on their channel, so I took a chance and asked them if they were a bot and they said no they just couldn't think of anything to say.
i can totally relate with them lol I'm not too good at commenting and communicating with others too,, reading this made me have some faith in humanity again
What’s also has been a flaw is that when a comment has many replies and you’d want to see the first reply. You’d have to continuously click the “view more comments” or something button, and takes so long to reach the top to correctly follow their discussion.
And now UA-cam shadowbans completely normal comments without the creator or user knowing about it. I rather see occasional bots than being constantly censored and yt pretending the comment is still there, making people waste their time talking into the void.
I'm glad that people are talking about this now, instead of just ignoring it. For a while it seemed like the main response was "since they're trolling we're going to address it by letting them do whatever while we say nothing to not give them the satisfaction", and it felt like not stopping a person that's stabbing you bc you might get stabbed. I actually reported so many bot channels at one point that UA-cam gave me an automatic warning that false reports would suspend my account and I just kind of sat there like "Really? I could lose my account for reporting too many bots"
@@Olmeuu That was my point. Reporting individually as we see them isn't working, so creators need to speak out so that UA-cam is forced to fix their platform.
fr, especially the comments that are like “can we appreciate how much effort _____ puts into bringing us videos” probably one of the most annoying bot comments
I used to really enjoy commenting on videos I like, but since around 1 year and when I received my checkmark it just became less and less enjoyable. Because some of the checkmarked channels as you mentioned do shit like that, you will just receive weird comments even if you are an actual person who just wanted to write a comment. Potential fixes: Users are given temp bans from commenting and are manually reviewed if they have hyper repetitious comment histories indicating spam Have regular review of verified channels and a higher standard of verification to confirm they are legitimate and produce original content Generally improve the review system so that reports of spam are actually dealt with UA-cam's likely solution: We've removed verification for non-corporate accounts for the mental health of our creators
we can all agree that this channel's consistency is truly legendary what i'm saying is that the content is legendary consistent all the time basically the consistency of the legendary is channel's content essentially consistent content is legendary for this channel fundamentally the legendary channel is truly consistent. and legendary.
I personally haven't left a youtube comment in a long time. Everyone discussing this issue made me want to post one though. Its honestly ridiculous. I remember having conversations at one point in the comment sections that I actually enjoyed. Just talking about what the creator was doing or something funny that happened. Now I stay out of the comment section as a whole. I can't listen to a video and laugh along to other viewers commenting because its nothing but spam and bots! This needs to be fixed.
Also, you can just go to any big music video and see comments by verified channels with massive likes who go something like "It’s *current year*, let’s see how many legends are listening to this masterpiece" or "This song never gets old". They don't mean what they're saying - just searching for people who go to their channel. And I don't know why but there are a lot of bot channels going around with MrBeast Profile Pictures, probably to bring kids to their channels.
i've researched a lot into the verified bots, so lemme give you the full fnaf lore. it was all started by a 15 year old with an depressed, vhs-filtered xxxtentaicon profile picture that got his channel (with 4k subs) deleted because he illegally streamed a logal paul fight (or it was jake paul, i don't care. also, i did not make that villian orgin story up, the kid confirmed it on discord). so he botted all the subs for a channel for himself, and then made other channels like that, and sold them for like $500-$2000. you can recognize these channels by their weird, one word names (for example, "book" "bird" "zoo" "z" "bee" "cheese" "p". pick a random word from the dictionary). some of these bots copy paste the same comments, some copy paste the top comment (the worst imo). either way, since it's a verified channel, their comment is boosted to the top in the comments section. and youtube does nothing about it, and will even let these channels change their names on a whim and re-verify them (you have to reapply to get a checkmark if you change your name, i think, and then youtube reviews it). so i've seen some guy go from "lmao" to like "spike" to "mr. beast" and youtube verifed him each time, even with the fake mr. beast name. it's useless to report them, youtube does ziltch about anything reported. thank you for coming to my ted talk
I swear if UA-cam's answer to this problem is a "captcha", I quit. Imagine having to "select each image that include stop lights" just to say, "great vid keep it up."
Doesn't sound like a bad idea tbh. 4chan does something similar where you do 1 captcha and you can post comments for like a 10 or so minutes before having to do the captcha again
I can’t wait for another platform to come along and be more beneficial to creators. Platforms like UA-cam, Twitter and Facebook treat their users/creators like crap and get away with it because they basically hold a monopoly on their chosen form of social media. We need more competition out there to force these platforms to start LISTENING to their user’s concerns and actually DO SOMETHING about it. It’s a toxic relationship.
I really don't think we'll see another platform compete with UA-cam in the same way unless it gets some serious money thrown its way, and can be worthy enough to drag away some big names. But who has that money, and actually cares?
I really want that too, but unfortunately I don't think it's gonna happen anytime soon. A new site would need serious money to come anywhere near UA-cam or other platforms.
A big problem alternative platforms have been having is that it doesn’t take long until the toxic people that have been reasonably banned from the major platforms start flooding in, more than the fledgling moderation team can handle. Then the major platforms weaponize that to shame the alts out of business. Not to mention the massive jump in resource usage that startups rarely are prepared for, turning the site into a sluggish nightmare that drives more people out, and once the company can afford the bandwidth and storage and whatnot, it’s likely too late.
I really loved this site bcz you can just watch videos of my favourite creators and not interact with ppl. But ever since they removed the like button i cant stomach it. I hope another website as good as early youtube appears
There is a very much popular platform whose name starts with an O and then there's a dye with no e, and then there's a see I'm not gonna write it because that how much I truly trust this site (it wouldn't surprise me at all if this sort of comment got flagged and the account that wrote it becomes an eternal undesirable with the same perks as the lowering of your soc. credit score in the eastern far lands)
Ill never forget that the official youtube "response" in the comment section of their "why we're disabling youtube dislikes" had more bots replying to it than actual people. It really does speak volumes to the quality of the website imo. Is youtube going to fix it? Nah, doesn't cut into their bottom line. Not like mass disliking corporate garbage videos does.
The sad thing is their solution to combat bots and spam will probably be worse. Something I noticed is that there's way more shadowbanning now to the point where it feels like it's wrongfully suppressing dissent. In some cases it's the channel owner or mods that shadowban people but other times, it's youtube bots and there's clearly something wrong with their bots. Like they obviously have some bots trying to detect offensive comments, harassment/bullying and it doesn't work because AI can't detect sarcasm or understand context well enough.
Yeah ikr, the anti-harassment AI on UA-cam is absolutely terrible, it hid my comments from another person when we were just having a friendly discussion about Tsukihime and for some reason actual harassment gets through to the comment sections no problem
@Donquixote So I guess child murder and cannibalism is the lesser evil, is that what you're saying? Look, I'm not saying rape isn't bad, it's fracking terrible. But murder, with cannibalism... there's no world where that is a better option, for everyone involved. To say otherwise is, to be frank, completely idiotic or ignorant to how horrible that action is. If you want to explain otherwise, I'm all ears. Go for it, tell me how rape is worse than, not only murder, but the consumption of the body. btw, this was on a video involving cannibalism, with some muppet saying "At least it was rape" or the like.
@@A--Fan All I'm gonna say is, my comments are getting hidden for much, MUCH less triggerwords than yours, so consider yourself lucky. Technical long comments of mine get hidden for technical terms with double meaning... e.g. what do you do with an .exe file? You exec*** it, and that's it for my comment. You got more triggerwords in there than I got in all of my shadowbanned comments together. The AI acts in mysterious ways

@@SixtenD On insta I was going and reporting the pages so that they would be blocked from my page, but there are so many bots I just completely gave up
There's another version of bots that Charlie didn't cover, and it's ironic how my first experience seeing this kind of bot was on his channel a couple videos back. I've also seen it on countless other channels, and they're basically slandering and accusing the creator of doing some really fucked up shit, or sometimes just straight up harassing them. With my first experience, in some wacky text font, there was a spam bot in the replies saying something along the lines of "charlie (something highly illegal) a 9 year old girl -> (a link to a vid). It genuinely made me nauseous and sick to my soul that UA-cam hasn't fixed this problem whatsoever, and it's only getting worse by the minute. Update: And now there seems to be bots promoting literal pedophilia. What a fucked up world we live in
The big problem with all the bots and ways of fixing them being bypassed is due to one amazing thing about programming and coding that is a double edged sword. There are millions of ways to program the same exact action through all kinds of languages, so if one way is banned, or 1000 more ways are banned, the bot hosters will whip up a new code in no time and keep hosting (usually they are rented out to spam certain bots/messages).
That’s not how programming works, but the idea is there. The problem is that security is a cat and mouse game, it never ends. It’s not like you can make a bot in C# and if it gets banned you can rewrite it in Python and it’s fine.
@@cthecheese1620 i think a good way to counter it is to play the cat and mouse game, where you let it fester abit so that they can be easily identified, then ban them, then add a new option in the report description such as bot, it would be sent to a human team which would check them all, or ban all accounts on the platform, and in order to get in, you need to so a test to check whether your not a bot, do this differently and you can kill off bots, im not really a tech guy so i dont know wether it works though

Boy it sure does suck that UA-cam has this really annoying quirk in the comments. Thankfully the loving CEO Susan Wabbajack removed dislikes to spare the feewings of big brands
It feels like Susan is actually trying to kill UA-cam in a subtle way. Like “oh I didn’t know that removing the dislike button wouldn’t change anything and would just make people angry”
I'm glad that you and Jack are talking about this issue on UA-cam, I wish UA-cam would fix this bot/spam comment problem that is going on for months instead of removing something unnecessary like the dislikes.
Well Thiojoe has made a Programm Wich autodetects and bans these bots But somehow the news of it really doesn't spread at all. (spamming it right now so it actually spreads a little)
@Assassin just say offensive content instead of hate speech, because speech can be hateful in anyway and sometimes you can easily mix hate speech with a plain joke
I bet if UA-cam does decide to fix this... Everyone is going to have to complete a reCAPTCHA test before commenting. They always come up with the worst possible ways to solve problems, just like removing the dislike button.
One of the comments I hate the most are the ones who completely alienate their original point by editing the comment when they get 60 likes and say “OMG THANKS FOR ALL THE LIKES!!!1!1!1!” Example: “Rest in peace gramma, fly high Edit: OMG THANKS FOR THE LIKES IM FAMOUS”
Thank god this is being discussed. I've seen a ton of channels run by people under 18 (including myself) who have gotten a decent amount of the s*x bots and I'm pretty sure that messaging underage people with those kinds of messages, even with a bot, is downright illegal. Somebody needs to do something about these things.
I don't think you could claim any form of illegal activity if your age is not publicly stated on your page. The bots wouldn't have any way of knowing (not that that's any form of justification, but just saying)

Say swag
i've researched a lot into the verified bots, so lemme give you the full fnaf lore.
it was all started by a 15 year old with an depressed, vhs-filtered xxxtentaicon profile picture that got his channel (with 4k subs) deleted because he illegally streamed a logal paul fight (or it was jake paul, i don't care. also, i did not make that villian orgin story up, the kid confirmed it on discord). so he botted all the subs for a channel for himself, and then made other channels like that, and sold them for like $500-$2000. you can recognize these channels by their weird, one word names (for example, "book" "bird" "zoo" "z" "bee" "cheese" "p". pick a random word from the dictionary). some of these bots copy paste the same comments, some copy paste the top comment (the worst imo). either way, since it's a verified channel, their comment is boosted to the top in the comments section. and youtube does nothing about it, and will even let these channels change their names on a whim and re-verify them (you have to reapply to get a checkmark if you change your name, i think, and then youtube reviews it). so i've seen some guy go from "lmao" to like "spike" to "mr. beast" and youtube verifed him each time, even with the fake mr. beast name. it's useless to report them, youtube does ziltch about anything reported.

I’m sure UA-cam will take this as a sign that they need to break the platform more.
ive had my comments disappear after a minute of posting. yet sex bots on a platform full of kids are running a muck

What a fucked up world we live in
It's pisses me off to no end that someone would even have a bot type that shit out

Those aren't as popular I suspect since I haven't seen any of them but that is still fucked up shit
PUTIN IS THE BEST!
It's the problem 😕 in every social media.
This can all be solved with a simple run of the mill captcha
@@undefinedchannel9916 honestly if I had to do a captcha before every comment I made I'd probably say a lot less dumb shit
@@hughjanus2252 Same. It probably would apply to a lot of other people too.
We’ve literally entered the “red scare” era of UA-cam. NOONE knows if people who compliment vids are genuine or bots posing as real people.
