  • I check out, discuss, and react to Metallica's Master of Puppets Live with my seventeen year-old son. This song and guitar pieces actually resonate more than I would have originally thought.

I was 14 at the time and my mom forbid me to go to this concert so I had to have my friends sister pretend to be his mom and say I was spending the night at his house when actually my friends older sister (20) and her boyfriend (21) took us to the show . It was at the Seattle Coliseum, which is currently under renovation and honestly is made to look a lot larger than it actually is in this video, but back then there was so much more of a mystique of going to a concert, especially a hard rock or metal show then now a days. And there was more aquanet hair spray with girls and mullets with guys than I've ever seen, lol. I had to do the same with going to see Ozzy and the "No Rest For The Wicked" tour concert with my mom to go see it. All she knew was he was a satanic Bat eating weirdo, ha. And that was a lot of it in the 80's was there was a lot of talk of satanic bs all wrapped up in heavier music back then. Thanks a lot for this reaction, glad to see youth appreciating it.

It takes a horrible person to judge and heap scorn on a thirteen year old girl for not having the same eclectic taste acquired by someone who has been listening to this type of music for over 30 years. I was 13 when I first heard Master of Puppets and it honestly took a few listens before I could appreciate all of its dynamic subtleties. Imagine growing up listening to Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber or One Direction and having to hear James Hetfield's growls just because your Dad wanted you to listen to some of his music. At least her reaction was genuine and honest.

The songs tempo is played thro the trials of an addict .the normal intro is the anticipation/ anxiety of scoring your drugs , the middle slower section reflects the high while the outro is played thro the calamity an Chaos of coming down an beginning the process all over again . As a recovering addict this is my interpretation of the song . The adage once an addict always an addict is true temptation is there every day , the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem if you’re reading this you can make it through I’m living testament. 🤘🤘🤘RIP CLIFF

It's a shame your daughter got attacked for not liking it. From my experience, metal fans are usually the most down to earth and most supportive so it's a bit of a shock. But, there are always those out there who have to talk shit and attack people just because they don't like the same thing as them. I feel ashamed to be a metalhead when there are people like that who categorize themselves with me. She just needs to completely ignore them and not take it to heart, same for the rest of you since you're family. She listened to it and that's what's important. Fuck all the haters.

I saw them in 1994, at the Woodstock '94 festival. The lesser known acts, or musicians that were up an coming, such as Live, Sheryl Crow, The Violent Femmes, were all slated for Friday, but the really BIG acts were all slated for Saturday. Nine Inch Nails, Metallica and Aerosmith closed out Saturday night. I was told that you could hear those three acts very clearly from over ten miles away. I still have my ticket stub. It's framed and hangs on my bedroom wall. One of the best experiences of my life!!!
Sorry to hear your daughter getting so much heat. She has a right to her opinion, and some music she's going to like, some she's not, and that's perfectly fine. The fact that she's at least willing to try it out and react to it is a great thing. There are a good deal of people that won't even entertain the idea of listening to it. I call it the "green eggs and ham" treatment. You can't say you don't like if you didn't try it. She tried it, didn't like it, and I respect that she at least dipped her toe in the water. Great reaction. I am a53 year old metal vocalist and guitarist. Started in first band at 15. Seen two shows on this tour with Queensryche Operation Mindcrime. Double headliner in Phoenix and Oakland. Also see the Black tour with Guns and Roses. All awesome shows. Think 70' 80's rock is the best. Thank Black Sabbath for metal.

Lots of explaining. I came here to hear Metallica (!!!)
Such the best part of all these songs - across all genres - is hearing them first , then doing the detective work afterwards to learn what - if anything - they were actually about.
Dylan made a point - as did Bowie - to never get in the way of any fans interpretation of their music by explaining their songs.
Music is beauty. What it means to You -
Is literally all it means .
Blessings to yall - keep on keeping the music alive. 🙏💜

My children had no choice but to grow up on Metallica lol. Both of them (19&24) love Metallica. Both have very diverse music interests. My youngest is more of a metal head than my oldest and he has been introducing me to newer type metal. But they both tell me they should have been 80s kids.

They're still good and 88 was over 30 years ago. Most metal bands only wished they could've toured for over 40 years.

We took my son to a Metallica concert at age 11, and Iron Maiden at 12. We went with him (LOL) to Ed Sheeran at age 10, it was his first concert. He still likes radio shit and whatever is popular these days, but he also loves Metallica and can appreciate the melody and the artistry. He very clearly sees the difference in the craft of music between heavy metal and other genres, and he appreciates the onness and openness of the heavy metal community. Start with them young. It works.
