I'm so so sorry that my daughter doesn't know that the Drummer from THE band that defined Grunge Punk Rock became the lead singer of one of the greatest Rock band of all time... You are forgiven... Simply because it is clear you have a fantastic dynamic with your daughter. The fact that you are doing these "reaction" video is amazing. Shape and mold that mind! Hahahahaha
The performance you refer to when he messes it up is from the UK when they did "Top of the Pops". Famously, most acts were told to mime singing and playing the instruments and KC took exception to this. On this occasion, they were told to mime the instruments, but he was allowed to sing. Him being weird and messing it all up was his protest at being told they had to mime. He was a great proponent of live music by all accounts.
I really don't like that you sound let down whenever she doesn't love a song. It's not reasonable to expect her to share your music taste. All you can do is to share the music. PS. And to be fair, there's no way anyone could recognize Grohl from that video. I doubt even his own mother would know it's him, all you see is someone with long black hair.
8:22 That was during their performance on the BBC's Top of the Pops which was the most popular music program in the UK at the time, basically, no UK artist would turn it down if invited as it would certainly boost their sales considerably. They were asked to mime, but after Curbain refused they were allowed...if I'm not mistaken, that was the last time the BBC relented in their non-live performance rule.

Okay that explanation of where the term "teen spirit" sounds like you once heard the story and then forgot. "Kurt smells like teen spirit" got spray painted on his bedroom wall by one of his girlfriends friends because his girlfriend wore teen spirit deodorant, however Kurt had no idea it was a brand of deodorant and thought it sounded cool, and it was years later someone pointed out to him that teen spirit was a deodorant.

Your daughter is such a good sport when you tease her. She doesn't get offended and can laugh at herself. She's cool. 😊
I love that "Classically Trained" t-shirt of yours! 😁👍🕹
Didn't we just love to hate that joystick?
@@AvanToor I certainly did. I'm left handed so had suck at playing Atari games right handed! 😫😫
when my kid was growing up, my car my radio. When I was cleaning bout the house, yup, my radio was blasting. Boy is 24 now, and to this day, schools me in my own generation music! so proud
You guys should reverse it for one video and have the dad reacting to one of her favorite songs.
That would be interesting!
Oh, fun fact for the day, Kurt was the janitor at his high school after he dropped out, imagine the humiliation. But then went on to do this. Never give up.
"The more videos we do, the more i realized i failed you." LMFAO!!! Dont worry dad, you're bringing her up to speed.
I'm a 1990's child. And i really think it's cool/nice/fun to see that your "kid" is doing this with you. In these days most people seem more afraid than EVER to show up on a video/youtube-clip, Whatever you call it. Good job
Smells like teen spirit wasn't written or thought of before the year 1990... the 1st time the song was played live was april 91" and it was still in the process of being a written masterpeice!
I'm just loving these videos! The banter between you two is great. I really wish I would of had kids to do stuff like this. I hope your daughter knows how much she is making you happy by doing this with you. It really shows by looking at you throughout the vid. :)
Love Nirvana! This was awesome!
Thanks so much!
nooo you have not failed her. you havent showed her enough. keep it up! :D
GOD BLESS KURT COBAIN! And his unchallenged writing abilities!
Yes, he really changed the face of music in the early 90's.
Speaking of music about selling out, The spirit of radio. “Glittering prizes and endless compromises, shatter the illusion of integrity”
Can't wait to blast this music in the car when I have kids one day
usually i do not comment, but i like your style. your are not overreacting, u just share your thoughts and background knowledge. good quality, good music, good enternainment. thx
Fascinating to see the reaction of a 13 year old now vs myself at the same age when the song came out. I wonder how she would react if she discovered it on her own. So many icon bands get lost from generation to generation. Keep on educating! 👊🏻😃
You should've shown her the two videos (Smells Like Teen Spirit, Smells Like Nirvana) back to back.
Also, Bad and Fat.
Okay that explanation of where the term "teen spirit" sounds like you once heard the story and then forgot. "Kurt smells like teen spirit" got spray painted on his bedroom wall by one of his girlfriends friends because his girlfriend wore teen spirit deodorant, however Kurt had no idea it was a brand of deodorant and thought it sounded cool, and it was years later someone pointed out to him that teen spirit was a deodorant.
its good you chose smells like teen spirit. its the most accessible song of theirs for a person who has never heard them. it grabs you and pulls you right in. no matter who you are.
Ok...Now you HAVE to do Foo Fighters "Learn to Fly" xD
Lol, Foo Fighters coming very soon.
Having a 14yo daughter I think it's great that you can share your music with your daughter.
You do realize now, you have to show her Weird Al's version.
Seven years ago, I was her age and I already knew this song by heart while I’m French ! I loved Kurt’s voice so much... And even today I can’t get enough of it!
I was a teenager in the early 90s and... thanks God!!! Thanks Kurt, Layne, Weiland, Lenegan and ALL the others for the magic period you gave us 🤟💜
Love the s/n! You have a lot of great music to look backward to. Go to the late 60's early 70's and work your way forward. Good times ahead.
You forgot to mention Chris Cornell? What the hell. He is the true definition of grunge. Not the poster child Kurt Cobain, I mean no disrespect but it is a fact.
@@LeaFarNas802 True. I'm sure it was just a slip. He did name some other great ones.
@@LeaFarNas802 You're right!! Believe me: I thought of Chris immediately after writing the comment, but I had to go out and I had NO time to change it!! Obviously Cornell is on the podium!!
I hate that the UA-cam version has a shortened solo because the solo is the best part of the song
Extra points if you can figure out the lyrics.
Lol
Is it about the Teen Spirit?
Random Acts of Video Sweet! I didn’t think I’d be getting extra points today. Thanks!
If you mean hearing it it's easy for me but if you mean the meaning check out genius maybe you'll find what you're looking for
Its hard to talk with all the marbles in my mouth
Video of ACDC on Australian TV 1976, "A Long Way to the top" you gotta show Annie the old school dancing by the girls....it's epic! She'll love it!
"Still don't recognise the drummer?"
**looks at the guy covered by smoke and only sees a lot of hair flopping around**
Is he the guy who played Cousin IT?
Ahhhh... I was in my prime. 19 yrs old and they still make me feel the same way today. Legends.
2:22 is start of song, your welcome
My what?
Fanks
Teach them young. My husband and I are 80to90 kids and my 17yr old likes everything we show her
This channel is screaming Gen-X. Love it.
loving your vids! top parenting dude!!!
Love Nirvana ... and the picture of Iceland in the back ground, I'm from Iceland by the way :) And the mom has a great taste of music ! And i saw Pixes a few years ago .
Your daughter is a wise young woman. Thanks dad!
I was a tweenie back when "grunge" hit.
My first exposure to it was Alice In Chains back in ~1990. It was metal, but different. Superb. Goddamn beautiful, actually.
Next I know, Nirvana's "Nevermind" album comes out in '91. Even more awesomery, as far as I'm concerned. This played all the time.
Next I know, Badmotorfinger gets into the collective conscious. I still love you all, but there are few who still own my heart.
My generation got very damn lucky. I expect the slow ones, in the biz, are sucking hind teet these days, as they should.
Lol, thanks for the comment and story.
So was I. 11 when Nevermind was released.
I was never a Nirvana fan, but Mother Love Bone (and the tribute Temple of the Dog), Pearl Jam "Ten", and Soundgarden all bring me back to early high school.
Check out Nirvana's "Lounge Act" or "In Bloom"....she'd like those as well!
Yes, more to come on grunge for certain, thanks for watching.
Love the video!!! Very informative, same thing I do with my kids when it comes to music.
We wear flannel cause it's cold and wet here in Seattle not as a fashion statement
I love these! I want to headbang throughout all these!
To defend your daughter, she's more likely to recognize Dave Grohl from that Tenacious D video than as a member of Foo Fighters lol
Her straight face is brilliant.
I can understand everything he says lmao 😂😂 top 10 favorite songs and I’m younger than his daughter.
This is a really really good song 🙃😌
Neriah Montgomery
Load up on guns, bring your friends
It's fun to lose and to pretend
She's over-bored and self-assured
Oh no, I know a dirty word
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
Yeah, hey
I'm worse at what I do best
And for this gift I feel blessed
Our little group has always been
And always will until the end
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
Yeah, hey
And I forget just why I taste
Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it's hard to find
Oh well, whatever, never mind
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello, how low
Hello, hello, hello
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido
A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial, a denial
A denial, a denial, a denial, a denial
It amazes me that's there's people who have never heard Nirvana before. Like I was 5 when Kurt died but I grew up listening to them...my kids listen with me now too.
Song was written in 1990, after the Vig sessions. Small deal, but figure I'd throw that in.
My kids would never sit and listen my boring anecdotes. She deserves a medal.
Krist did not get knocked out, he did get hit in the head with his bass though. They where playing lithium at mtv music awards 1992.
Her opinion - literally 3 seconds on two occasions each time. He is just so engrossed in it. It's his reaction more than anything. Also, if my parents sat me down to listen to their favourite music when I was 13, not sure how that would turn out - she is really patient with her old man.
