In December of 1985 my little brother (17, me 18) was killed in a car accident that nearly killed me. For 3 years this song is what kept me holding onto life. I recovered physically fairly quick but for three years I wanted nothing more than the end. This song was my lifeline.
34 years later I look back and laugh at the fools who thought this song could influence people to suicide......

The point is to show how one feels when severely depressed. It’s an endless void of emptiness that leaves you feeling hollowed out in a state of full blown despair, hence the line “emptiness is filling me to the point of agony.” It’s showing how his life has lost all meaning and now he has “simply nothing left to give” and “need(s) the end to set me (him) free.”

People were angry she didn't like "One"? That's really pathetic, I prefer genuine reaction and can perfectly understand her sentiment. I've been listening to Metallica since "Master..." came out and *I* didn't like One (saw the video version first too) the first time! The official video is just so distracting and a bit annoying. When I finally heard the album version I liked it better but in general "...And Justice..." wasn't my cup of tea like "Master...", "Kill 'em..." and especially "Ride..." had been. I'm digressing, it is nice she likes this, clearly superior song from a superior album, better. Still, one should never force stuff to kids but rather let them pick what they like and encourage that, not saying that to you but rather other commenters. Keep up the good work!

When i now know that she likes Fade To Black, she will surely love Nothing Else Matters,The Unforgiven, even think she might enjoy Orion. The Day That Never Comes,Turn The Page (might wanna do the censored video, even a live version of it,as it can get a little graphic in the video,as far as "violence" goes, she might be too young for that...) I even think she can dig theyr tribute to Thin Lizzy: Whiskey In The Jar,or theyr mission impossible 2 soundtrack,I Disappear. The video for that last one is surely alot of fun watching. 2 songs that might be a couple of misfires from me,but is worth the shot,is Wherever I May Roam (best intro i have heard from Metallica) and The Memory Remains with Marianne Faithfull :)

The thing is rarely You really love a nice song first time you've listened. One should listen the song 3-4 times and maybe discover the song by himself/herself. Everyone listen a Metallica album few times then realised he/she likes one particular song. And maybe later listened that song only.
Don't expect a person to like a good song (that you really love) at once and have goosebumps. You discovered the song, the same thing must happen with the person that listen the song for the first time.
Might listen first time and like a little bit, but it take some time to really love a song.
Do do You remember (and by You, I mean all of You) You've loved Stairway to Heaven or Child in Time first time you've listened? Do you remember when was that?

17 years later (from me hearing this song for the first time) and i still can't find a better guitar solo then Metallica's Fade to Black.

I think she's doing great even if she like it or not, thinking that she didn't grew up in our generation... I mean metal was everywhere all the time. So I really appreciate from her taking time to share with the big Dude, expanding her musical perception and just saying what she feels even if we agree or disagree.

Sorry I’m a new sub. Wanted to start at the beginning of your channel. This is a seed you planted here with her and Metallica. I know the One video didn’t work and I get it. The video of one distracts people from their actual music. This is a great song to start with. It has ballad and harmony. Makes the listener focus on the music more along with the lyrics. Metallica is def one of those bands ya gotta listen to over and over to really appreciate what they are doing. Young ears don’t adapt well with them. Play more black album and then introduce her to old school Metallica. Then again, I’m a year behind so I’m sure I’ll catch up along the way with what you do with her. Great video, love the channel, and I’ll keep watching and sending those likes!

You're exactly like me. Always pointing out the cool T-Shirts, band shirts I wore in Jr High and High School to my daughter. Hey, I say you do a reaction with her to Stevie Nicks 'Sara' or '17' or 'Outside the Rain/Dreams' from her 1981 live concert called 'White Wing Dove Tour!' Amazing show. I know she'll love it.

This is one of my favorite Metallica songs. I put it in the category of "Metallica Light" in terms of musical composition. It's a great choice for trying to introduce someone to Metallica. Something from the "Black Album" would also be good. Once they're hooked... try something from "Kill 'em All". :D

Yes, she is awesome, and you're also. It's great to see that you're searching for the way to present your daughter the music you love. (I love Metallica also). But it"s awesome to see she's not afraid to disagree with you. She's opened to have new music experiences, but she has the confidence to tell you if she don't get it. This is great.
And please don't care about to "fans" who offense you, or your daughter because she don't like any Metallica stuff. Metallica is great because they never listened to the fans, but they own visions.

It is simply the age she is currently at which explains why she likely would not be so very interested... or very susceptible to giving this kind of music a chance to garner any of her enthusiasm and attention....
In all honesty it's pretty impressive that she is as willing to listen and as patient as she has been on these videos ya know... this music will likely seem vastly different to her in around 4 to 6 years... seriously.

I remember the controversy surrounding this song. A lot of people thought that this song was causing kids to kill themselves. It’s good to see a lot of comments of the opposite. The song helping people cope and want to live. If I remember correctly, the song was written because of a letter they received from a fan who killed themselves. I think, ya it’s controversial, but it’s also eye opening to a lot of people during a time where you didn’t talk about the issue of suicide. In the 80’s people kept it to themselves and didn’t really talk about it. Not till Kurt Cobain did you ever really hear about it. It makes me think of tragedy of Chester Bennington and all the hurt is death caused the people around him. He had so much to live for, but couldn’t see past his depression. If you suffer a similar illness, know that this help for you and there a people that love and care for you. Think of them and all the hurt that taking your own life will cause.
