metallica alex hefner first time hearing whiplash kill em all album reaction #metallica #alexhefner #whiplash
Yep, that's exactly what "Whiplash" is about: Capturing the frenzy of those early Bay Area thrash shows - one part concert, one part prison riot. You're gonna get hurt, you're gonna have a great time. And this song is a tribute to that entire scene.
Brooklyn to Montauk Thrashed out to this.
The Queens house with Anthrax.
OH YESSIR..... Good ole bloody fun, Just another day at the shows, at least the ones I attended back in late 80's and all through the 90's into early 2000's then I took about 6 years from attending shows and then right back into it like I never stopped LOLOL
Amen bro
Saw Metallica in Berkeley, November 1983 first time
This comment is gold
I fully recommend the Seattle '89 version of this. One of the best.
I prefer San Diego 92' version over Seattle 89'. It was brutal as fuc*.
@@MadMaXCOD-pi4dy that's a good shout as well. Jason SHINED when he'd do vocals for Whiplash
@@ajeIzrulez F yeah he did! Anytime he did backup vocals he killed it.
@@MadMaXCOD-pi4dy that's my favorite version, Jason's vocals are so fucking good
DICKRASH!
I was 10 years old, I listened to pop, the hardest music I knew was "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. And then my friend brought me a mixtape that started with "Whiplash" by Metallica. As soon as the thrash riff started, my jaw dropped to the floor. I had no idea you could play like that. I was blown away and immediatelly fell in love with metal. Still a metal-head 32 years later \m/
Such a relatable story my brother! This is essentially how I found Metallica too and let's not forget fuckin' PANTERA! Only my progression came from Def Leppard, Poison, Skid Row and Mötley Crüe to today jammin' shit like Slipknot, Lamb Of God, Machine Head, Avenged Sevenfold, Sylosis and, my current favorite, TRIVIUM!! Of course, there are a shit ton more bands that I love, I just wanted to throw a few in there to kinda create a timeline. Oh btw, I'm 44 and my head is somehow still attached! LONG LIVE METAL!! 🤘💀🤘
@@fatshady5714 Sounds like my path. Went from Quiet Riot, Ratt, Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard to Metallica,Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, Venom, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Anthrax, Overkill, Exodus, Voivod etc.
It all started when my buddy Dave dropped of the No Life 'Til Leather demo. Then I went to record shop a few months later and Kill'em All was there. That was it after that day.
🤘🏽🤘🏽
Whiplash was the first Metallica song I heard. I am a Metallica fan today and it won't end.
@@2heavenAndHell Damn right bro! Metallica 4 life!
🤘💀🤘
I will say only few words:
Seattle 89.
"Whiplash" live version.
PS - This was insane!
You beat me to it, I really hope he looks up live-material of all Metallica songs he listens to!
And when they play it live, James sings "we never stop, we never quit cause YOU'RE Metallica", pointing at the crowd! 🙂
Same thing said by Phil everywere
Fun fact: This was Kurt Cobain's favorite Metallica song!!
Kurt Kablaaam

@@justinsullivan8040 ☠☠☠☠
@@justinsullivan8040 ah yes, carrying on Lars' legacy of making horrible jokes
Yep, and he was at one of their concerts and kept yelling at James asking if they were going to play Whiplash.
The live version, James switches the lyric to "we'll never stop, we'll never quit, 'cuz YOU'RE Metallica!"
Kill Em All has to be one of my favorite albums of all time, its just so energetic and thrashy it gets the blood and adrenaline flowing
Yep, almost 40 years later and it still does it for me.
The line that they kept their word on- we’ll never stop we’ll never quit cuz we’re Metallica! And all these year alter they are still going strong.
Yes
40 fukin years 🤘🤘
Live in Seattle James was so crazy, when he is supposed to say whiplash right before the main solo instead he said dick rash🤣
You should check out the motorhead cover of this it's so heavy. Lemmys bass just adds an extra punch on it
Not to mention, superior drumming!
Plus Motorhead won a Grammy for it
When they do this live, James sings "we never stop, we never quit, cause you're Metallica"... The live show is where its at Alex. You must go see them! You will never stop, never quit as you've become Metallica...
The Seattle ‘89 version of this song is so much faster and probably almost the fastest they’ve ever played, thrashier, and absolutely insane with insane vocals from James and Jason and you need to watch it
ua-cam.com/video/C_yp1L53HhU/v-deo.html
This one is mega fast.
I just saw Metallica for the first time in Atlanta a couple weeks ago, and this was the opening song! Best thing I've ever seen
Phantom Lord is next! You're gonna faint when you hear kirk's solos in that song 😂
Dave's solo
Kirk's solo
And 38 years later, they're still fuckin doin it.
Yess!!.. feel like we've been waiting forever for this.. I'm coming in before I even watch the reaction video.. I already know...
I lost my dad July 25th, so yesterday was not only Thanksgiving, but 4 months to the date. It was the most somber Thanksgiving I've ever been at, but I felt the same all day, too.
Anyways, with that said, thank you, Alex for putting up such a banger and making me smile at your reaction *hug*
Goddammit Alex! You were running your yap during the BEST verse in the whole song! Ya missed it!
♫ Hotel rooms and motorways, life out here is raw!
♫ We'll never stop, we'll never quit, cos we're METALLICA!
I dunno what I hate worse in reaction videos ; people who pause the song a million times to yap for 20 minutes about absolutely nothing each time, or yap during the song and miss something good?
Your positivity is just what I needed tonight! Thank you. 🥰
One of the greatest early Metallica songs they ever did. The Mustaine influence in those guitar riffs and the solo makes it one of the hardest hitting songs ever!
I think dave had nothing to do with this song
@@runwhileyoucan9309 While outset early. He and the band did play it early on and so on. There should be some demos and live performances around of that time involving Mustaine before Kirk came in and did his thing
@@NWOWCW4Life1 what I am sure of is that dave was involved in writing 4 songs
The four horsemen
Jump in the fire
Phantom lord
Metal militia
I think he had nothing to do with the rest
@@runwhileyoucan9309 Mustaine also played on the demo versions of No Remorse and Whiplash. On Metallica's Cliff Em All dvd, Mustaine is playing Whiplash live with them.
Here are the no remorse and whiplash demos
ua-cam.com/video/2Zmtjn_6ESE/v-deo.html
However, if you're strictly talking writing credits, you're correct on the 4 songs. Mustaine also has credit for the songs Ride The Lightning and Call of Ktulu
@@Drummer_Jeff83 Whiplash was written by James hetfield not Dave Mustaine this is a very Hetfield riff
This song is the epitome of thrash for me 🤘❤️🤘
February 2022 - Las Vegas - opened with Whiplash - Incredible!
my favourite live versions of "whiplash" are the ones with jason newsted doing part of the vocals. some versions i've listened to have him doing all the vocals. i love it. it's different, it sounds dirtier, check him out for anyone who loves metallica, especially live. 🙂
The didn't stop and they didn't quit and they're fucking amazing to this day :D
Seen them in ATLANTA. Nov 6th and they started with this. My seventh time seeing them and my sons first. He had Whiplash
This song and Hit the Lights are such bangers. You have to love it^^
Glad you're continuing the journey... have fun with it 😁 I'm looking forward to the rest of the album 😎
I always wondered what their music would have been like if Dave Mustaine didn't get kicked out of Metallica but at least we got 2 great metal bands out of it 🤘
They'd have imploded after their first album that's one too many big egos
Been listening to them since the mid 80's. A true testament to their awesomeness is that you can hear this tune a million times over the years and stilled get amped up by it! Great stuff Alex! Keep up the good work!
Same here bro! I've been a "Metallicahead" since day one and what you've stated here is absolute FACT!!
Bro.....YOU need to hit a Metallica concert!!! Sooner rather than later.....before you know it, they'll be retired and You'll be like "Dude, I shoulda seen them live...."....MAKE IT HAPPEN YESTERDAY!!!
Most definitely!
Alex, I never thought of it before but you are absolutely right that they should have opened the album with this track!
I still remember to this day, I was about 8 years old when my brother put this album in the tape player for the first time and when Whiplash came on... we knew we were metalheads. This album is just timeless, it speaks volumes with so much youthful angst and aggression.
I still remember first hearing the "we're MetallicA" line back in high school and I liked how they did that.
This is why they Were one of the best.
Definitely one of their best songs ever.
So glad you reacted to this one.
I went to see them in Atlanta on the 6th of November and they opened with this song! I went absolutely berserk!! 🤘🏼
I was there too. Never forget the sight of people sitting down at the back of the pit ☹️
@@cataclysm3733 Yeah, ugh... It's because it was a festival. Many other fans there to see their favorite goober bands.
First time i hear this track on
Tony hawk Untergrund 2
End theaser, were someony make a big NeverSoft Logo on a wall in time laps
That was the begin where i start to listen metallica .. soo hard and farst
Definitely needa do the live version from Seattle 1989 by far the best concert Metallica ever performed
DICKRASH
@@metalmaniac8640 hahahahahahahahahaa most hilarious thing ever
we all do love Jason on the live shows.
what about 1992 san diego man the crowd is running all over the arena
NICE!! this is an all-time favorite of mine
I once read James talking about where this song came from and he said it was inspired by how absolutely insane the fans went at their shows and after seeing a guy in the front headbang so hard that he cracked his head on the stage and was bleeding, he wanted to write a song for those fans.
Usually the bass solo and Whiplash are considered together as one because they are tied so tightly together. Always heard it in the radio that way
Nothing's better then listening to your favorite song by them on the radio
THANK YOU BROTHER. 4
When you are in the concert the slam is mandatory
I got a wiplash at a Metallica concert in february 1993, i had long hair back in the day, bang headin' the whole night and for a full week i couldn't put my head down just to look at the ground or even taking a piss. The pain was over the top. What a great memory!!! 🤘😂🤘
God Bless Cliff Burton.
NEVER FORGOTTEN! '22!
One of my favourite guitar solos ever
This is the first Metallica song or thrash metal song I ever heard. My older cousin put big ass headphones on me, turned the volume way up, and hit play. I was about 9 years old. My mind was blown.
There are definitely good songs on this album. You are right now getting into some of their best songs from here to the end of the album. Metal Militia - the last song is badass too. Plus you got No Remorse and Seek and Destroy. Phantom Lord the next song is a hidden gem.
Motorhead won a Grammy covering this song
The Seattle 89 performance of this is just absolutely amazing So much fucking energy... and then they also had Jason
What a minute this was on Tony Hawk Underground 2 one of my favorite video games of all time
You need to see a video of the live version of this song.
Funny thing that Kill Em All came out in 1983 before Alex was born. Was listening to them before most knew who they were.
Jason Newstead knows all about whiplash as he did so much headbanging playing live he damaged the C4 vertabrae in his neck.
In live performances, they often replace the last line with “ well never stop, never quit because you’re Metallica”
This is one of my fav Metallica songs. Metal Militia is another.
Pls react to the live version of this song, Seattle 89' and San Diego 92' are just miracles on earth
i played that song in a band I was in and it was fun playing it
Sounds even better live
Keep up the reactions great song
Hehe this was awesome in concert 1980 something and yes headbanging Hall of Fame song 🤘
Now all we need it's the reaction for "Metal Militia" :D
Took so long, but finally he's listen to WHIPLASH!
This song has one of my favorite solos
Shit demands attention and takes over!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻👍🏻
What are the outro songs you use in your videos they always get stuck in my head!
Trust me.... I have literally experienced whiplash at the playing of this song in a live Metallica performance..... My friends and I the next day at school felt the same.........
Self induced whiplash because of head banging
Ive seen them 3x in Indianapolis; with Queensrych in '88, with The Cult in '89, with Guns N Roses '92, 1x in Orlando '92 with Guns N Roses, 1x in Tampa '94 with Kill
Kirk hammett was named recipient of Guitar World’s very first Hall of Fame Award in 2002
Hit the lights was their first song on the project :)
LETS GOOOOO
Awesome song 🤘🏻🔥💥🔥🤘🏻
They knew just in '83 they will be the best
James' vocals on Kill 'em All are *nasty* af!!! Pure unhinged fury!!
Hell yeah!!!
Very much have enjoyed your Metal/ Metallica journey \m/
This is an awesome song!!!
Two songs that I find fun to drive to. This one and 'Spirit In Black' by Slayer.
yezzirrrrr
After like 15 years of listening to this song I still get some fucken whiplash baby 🤘🏽
Impossible to not headbang to any METALLICA
🖤
I've been to 4 Metallica (just saw them at Rockville Daytona) shows in my lifetime. Really wish they'd tour the US more often. Highly recommend going good sir.
BLOODYWOOD dropped their new track GADDAAR from their forthcoming debut album (coming out in Feb 22).
They are also visiting EU in 2022 embarking on tour to UK, Germany etc
Havenlt you noticed yet?????? I am asking because you had reacted to their two tracks a year and two years ago
That intro flattens the hairs on my neck. Just gallops over them.
had a dark elf back in my L2 days
with the name Whiplash..
she was a karma char . .
Tough to top this song. The epitome of thrash at an early age
You were not ready for this...for the first time
This channel went the same way as all others, at first it was genuine reactions from a guy that had never listened to that music, a lot of the times he liked what he heared and some others don't. Then, the channel got some views and got popular, so in order to keep viewers, all reactions became positive regardless of if he liked the music or not, all of a sudden everything was awesome. Authentic reactions are out the door. now is all about augmenting subscriber count..
I think he still has some genuine enjoyment to a degree but I get it.
It’s real tough to maintain such things once you delve into more music of a certain genre and reaction channel popularity
This should be a "Try not to Headbang" challenge
Dream state - twenty letters
Finch - bitemarks and bloodstains
Also check out the “K-ON!” AMV of “Whiplash”; it’s awesome. 😎
I’m just glad I’m finally learning the bass line for Seek and Destroy , I’m no Cliff Burton but it is a fun track I’ll tell you that !
yes whiplash great song!!!!
Hey, love your reactions! You should do "The Day That Never Comes" :D
I got whiplash for real when I first saw them. Couldn't move my neck for 4 days. True story..
You should do Death Magnetic or Hardwired after this album.
TBA
In all fairness, it should be Black, due to its 30th anniversary
You NEED to react to Under the Influence by Sven Gali. May be one of the most underrated bands ever
FINALLY!!! :-D
Man I really hope you listened to the song after that video, because Its not possible to measure how much of the beautyness of that piece you miss just by not shutting the fuck up! Ps great fan of yours here
