These are some of the highest quality/useful videos for plant learning because you take the effort to show us what happens to the plant months later! Thank you!
Yes, I love seeing the progress all in one video when you are just doing it for a specific plant! The propagation only videos are good too, for multiple plants!
I know this is an older video but I absolutely love what you said about reusing soil and not throwing it despite pests! You're right, we need to be more sustainable!
I got a pilea peperomioides around 6 months ago, and it wasn't doing so good as time went on. It was nice and full when I first got it, but then I transplanted it into too big of a pot, because I didn't know that was a bad thing at the time, and I put one of the pups in a different pot. I think I was watering them too much and who knows what other abuse they was getting, lol! Anyways, they starting dropping almost all of it's stems and I thought they were going to die. I started learning more about watering and plant care, and I also have put them outside for the summer and they are growing like crazy now! So happy!
Thank you for mentioning reusing and being sustainable as possible. Everyone needs to do their part to stop putting so much into the landfill. And the video was very helpful. I have 2 pileas and one of them has sone of those concave leaves.
I flippin' LOVE your videos. You are so thorough and I don't know why I search for plant videos anymore, I should just come to tour Channel bc I'm sure you'll have the video. And if not.. then I'll have a video idea for you 😉. I will GLADLY watch all of the ads just for you. 💚
Beautiful plant and top notch info as always! Love your vids! I have found that they don't tolerate direct sunlight at all and the leaves fade out and turn yellow very fast. Had a big motherplant that was growing in all directions but up - but it was making babies left and right. The leaves never got really big though. During winter it massively shed leaves (like 10 a week) even though I could not find any pests or illness. So this spring I decided to give it a restart. Cut it up completely and now I have like 8 new plants (water and soil propagation both worked for me). I found that the soil it was in was way too compact and probably not the right mix (it was one of my first tropical houseplants a couple of yrs ago). Really curious to see how it turns out this time. Will definitely try staking it up this time around.
This is my first viewing of ur site. You are a breath of fresh air. I know u love u plants by the way you talk to them and have pet names for them. Subscribed and will continue to watch. Ty
Love this plant so much! I have propagated so many to give as gifts! I just made up 2 hanging pots of them, look so good! Love your channel! Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you for going over this again. Mine is doing okay, but I did cut a pup away, rooted it and it's doing great, mama, not so much, maybe I need to repot it and give it better soil mix. Also, if you have a moment, I did a video on houseplant tools I use, I hope you can take a look and see what I'm missing? Thank you so very much for the content!
The plant really looks much more coherent in the new pretty pot.. Mine is in half cati soil at the moment, I m gonna try humus rich substrate on one of the pups Cute *Dackel " as we say in Austria (I know the merle ones are US bred) 🌸
Cool i got 1 when i bring it in i need to do that to. Mine has grown better than twice it,s size out here on the patio but yhe orher 2veoth it are growing as wrll so they need to come put the hanging pot and in thier own pots
Hey! You are the first one to tell me the stems stretching bec of lack of light! I hv killed 2 pilea plants before this & the 3rd one seems to be doing ok…fingers crossed 🤞 I couldn’t figure out what wrong I was doing?!! Whether it was watering problem or light problem. Thanks a ton:)
Give it good but indirect light from the top where possible. Some morning direct is good. If in doubt, chop it up and start over before it dies completely 😀
Im confused about the question… but the only coconut I use is for growing medium. A lot of plants love growing on coconut husks. I hope I answered you correctly… ❤️
Thank you so much for this. My plant looks so sad it's embarrassing. The stems are long and skinny and have little leaves. I will move it to my west window to see if it improves. I wonder if I should cut the stem and try to propagate it.
I always rescue plants by propagating it haha so thats not a bad idea. It will reward you with lots of pups when you cut it. On a west window be sure to rotate it often so it gets evenly lit
Hello From Athens ! Apart from I enjoy watching your educational videos, I also wander how did a special greek word landed on your wrist ? I am trying to propagate this strange plant....lets see what wil happen !
I just finished watching this video. I have a question for you. You said that you can just pop the thick stem into soil. But will the stem root in water as well? I am the kind of person who prefers to watch my propagations.
Thank you so much for this video! I just recently bought my first pilea and always appreciate your recommendations. Also loved the moment at 5:49 when you kissed the little baby 😊 you can really tell that plants are your passion.
This plant is still on my wishlist! Here in Costa Rica just a few people have it because is really new here, so they sell this plant at a very expensive price! Even more expensive than a Melanochysum or a Verrucosum haha. So I'm waiting to see if someday the price goes down. :)
What is that silver alocasia you showed at the end? If it even is an alocasia? love the videos btw and have learned almost all that i know from you 😁😁😁
Hello happy Sunday 😊, to my Pilee And brown spots appeared on them, what do you think it could be? Substrate problems not suitable for this plant? Root rot? 😅
Hi! I recently moved to a south facing apartment, and since I moved, my pilea leaves started getting brown and crispy on the edges, mostly the lower leaves. I took off all of those leaves, and the rest of the plant looks okay. I didn’t change how i was watering it at all, just it’s lighting changed. Any ideas of what could be going on, and how I can fix it? Thanks! Great video.
I would water more if you increase the light since it actually makes them more thirsty. 😀 do get a moisture meter if you are unsure of the soil conditions deep down. They like to dry out almost completely between watering but not for long.
Question please: I find that some leaves and stems get weak if it's resting on the clay/ terra Cotta pot lip. So I have been lining to rims of my clay pots with Saran wrap and then it's fine. Do you know why?
Haha thats new to me… but the leaves should be erect on their own without resting. I usually trim off the floppiest of the leaves below cuz they bother me 😅
Hi Sean, soil that has mealy bugs, how to reuse them again? so you sun the soil and fertilize it to be reused for other plants? Would be great if you can show how to "cure" the mealy bugs soil to reuse
How often do you add furadan Sean? monthly/two/three monthly? because someone says every 2-3 weeks, but I don't think it is necessary to do that pest-bombing routine in that short period of time.
Pilea or peperomia? 😀 Unfortunately im not experienced with pollenation, but I believe peperomias can self pollenate and they can appear in random pots around the nursery
@@onlyplants they are indeed very loving. The connection they make with they're human is very intense. But they are also a little crazy 😁 btw i love your channel.
The product you are using is actually forbidden in Europe because it's so toxic. (to humans, mammals, birds and fish alike). I wish we had chemicals against bugs that are not so alarming.

Oh yea so glad to see it'll be ok to propagate into soil. Thank you.
😀😀
A Gia sighting! Always puts a smile on my face to see her. Hope she's adjusting okay to her new home.
Shes doing fantabulous now 😀
I love ❤️ your little adorable Dachshund just taking a little stroll across the back and turning to us while walking. 🐕

😀😀
“you are so cute” my new frase to talk to plants. Thanks for your videos, I enjoy watching them!
Pilea all time favorite,, I got about 12 pots of them already,,😂,, never stop giving pups,, 😂❤️❤️❤️
That's awesome!
Your Gift comes from HEAVEN.... YOU TOTALLY TRANSFER US TO ANOTHER WORLD... NO EXPLANATION HOW 🙏 💨🙏😇

my friend just gave me some of her pups to propagate and this video was so helpful! fingers crossed my first pilea plant thrives 🙂
They propagate very easily and these pups adapt very well compared to established plants
I just bought two today. Im actually thinking of going back and getting them all because there were a few babies in each of them. I can repot and gift
They look good clumpy too 😀
The plant really looks much more coherent in the new pretty pot.. Mine is in half cati soil at the moment, I m gonna try humus rich substrate on one of the pups

Can’t wait for next video!! My struggling Caladium awaiting! 😂
When you cut the main stem on the mama plant, my stomach hurt a little 🤣🤣
It means you are compassionate 😀
My pilea never looked like yours lol. Always had issues 🤣🤣 so now I want to try again 🥴
Great info - I have to ask you about the coconut you have taped around the tree- why?
Im confused about the question… but the only coconut I use is for growing medium. A lot of plants love growing on coconut husks. I hope I answered you correctly… ❤️

I just finished watching this video. I have a question for you. You said that you can just pop the thick stem into soil. But will the stem root in water as well? I am the kind of person who prefers to watch my propagations.
Yeppp they do root in water.
You're great! Thank you. ♥️

Thank you for another great video .My peperomia polybotrya 's leaves all curling inward,Is that too little light or too much light?
Too little light perhaps, as it is trying to maximize leaf surface for photosynthesis
did you ever think of making a tea with the worm castings and water the plant? then used the leftover castings to mix in soil.
All the time haha. Never got around to doing it though

Haha the price will go down sharply. They did everywhere else
It's still very expensive... a year later. In the Seattle area in the US, anyways.
What is that silver alocasia you showed at the end? If it even is an alocasia? love the videos btw and have learned almost all that i know from you 😁😁😁
That is a caldium 😀 all my videos hint the next episode at the end of vid. Be sure to click on the following episode if you are intrigued 😀
Hello happy Sunday 😊, to my Pilee And brown spots appeared on them, what do you think it could be? Substrate problems not suitable for this plant? Root rot? 😅
Could be that, or it might be fungus/bacteria
Nice video 👍👍🌷🌷
Hi, Sean.. would you share about the ratio of the potting mix? Thanks a bunch🙏🙏
Hello I have never measured, and its different each time 😅
Hi! I recently moved to a south facing apartment, and since I moved, my pilea leaves started getting brown and crispy on the edges, mostly the lower leaves. Thank you for the information!! What kind of pesticide do you use?
I have a video titled “pest control”, do check out that episode for details 😀
@@onlyplants thank you very much!!

Hi Sean, soil that has mealy bugs, how to reuse them again? so you sun the soil and fertilize it to be reused for other plants? Would be great if you can show how to "cure" the mealy bugs soil to reuse
You can probably sun bake them and then starve them to death. It may take up to a month
@@onlyplants thank for the advice :) appreciate that
I'm going to cut mine too, thank you Sean.
😀
thanks for the tips, what is the pesticide again?
Carbofuran. It may be banned in some countries
@@onlyplants thank you. i am in the US i can't find it @Amazon. i'll find something similar. i didn't know you can apply pesticide in the soil
Can you propagate this plant with just a part of the stem without leaves?
The short answer is yes, most likely you can. But the success rate would be very low
Do you think you could put the top part cutting into water to propagate?
Yepp can water prop them.
Thanks!!
Does anyone know the name of the cacti to Shawn’s right-the one on the floor that kind looks like Ursula’s tentacles (from little mermaid)?
I'm not certain, but it looks like a 'rat tail' cactus (disocactus flagelliformis).
Thats actually a miniature dragon fruit
How often do you add furadan Sean? monthly/two/three monthly?
because someone says every 2-3 weeks, but I don't think it is necessary to do that pest-bombing routine in that short period of time.
Every 3-6 months. More on pest prone plants or if I see visible pests
💚
'not enough roots to survive' LOL. How about NO roots? 😂You slay me ❤️.
sooo my peperomia started to bloom, is there any chance to pollinate the inflorescence?
Pilea or peperomia? 😀 Unfortunately im not experienced with pollenation, but I believe peperomias can self pollenate and they can appear in random pots around the nursery
@@onlyplants yeah my pilea 😅 sry
ok thank youuu
im gonna try and see whats gonna happen 😂
How did you know I just bought one of these!! Haha

Woooow beautiful 😍 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🙌🌈

My Chinese money plant it’s developing holes I don’t see what is eating them 😢.
Oh no that doesnt seem normal 😅
My leaves fall out easily, not sure why
Try to adjust the care. If in doubt chop the top off and propagate 😀 maybe it will grow healthier/stronger roots in your conditions
Can that plane in Water ? cause iam not agree indoor , have plan with soil ... Thank You 👍🏻🙏❤️
Water for propagation you mean? It should be able to be propagated in water
I love that plant ....circle 👍🏻😍😍😍 that plant can life with water its true ? So sorry my English very little, iam from Jakarta , Indonesia .
