U can propagate them by leaf, by chopping the plant in half, by putting the stem and leaf in water, i even broke off some super immature baby shoots when repotting one and i put them in moist soil and even they are growing. So bottem line is these are the most prolific plant ever and thats why they used to be hundreds of dollars but cost whent down so quick when ppl realized how fast and easy they prop
Thank you for being so clear about the pot size and watering. I was going in circles with "no drying out! Don't let it get pot bound!" Both of which I was doing and my 2 pileas have made a single baby each in 3 years. I just did the chop so I really want to start off correctly!
Personally I live in a very very plant friendly environment south Florida and my pilea gets about 4-5 hours of sunlight this seems to make the pilea happy pushing a new leaf every week and that without any special potting mix and NO FERTILIZER I bought my pilea at lowe’s for $7 in the clearance section it was a sad little plant that just had like 5 leaves in total today my pilea is the most sturdy plant I have I strongly recommend for people who are newly into the plant hobby and the faces people make when u show them a pilea is 100% worth it😂
Thank you. I have a baby that looks healthy but has very pale yellowish leaves, 2 other larger pileas are in the same location and the color is normal. I haven’t found an answer for the pale leaf color.
Hey! I made a video on both a while back. Link here: ua-cam.com/video/pwCa9z46dNg/v-deo.html&ab_channel=SirPlantsaLot Scale is a real pain to get rid of - I recommend rubbing alcohol (see video for more info), and mealybugs are easy to get rid of also with rubbing alcohol or with a general pesticide spray (I'm currently liking Captain Jack's Dead Bug Brew). Hope that helps!
This is my favorite plant. It was difficult to find were it would thrive, it needs a lot of light. I put it in a south facing window, we have big trees in our yard so it still doesn't get much direct light. It's growth pattern is so unique compared to my other plants.
my pilea has been dropping healthy-looking leaves from the bottom ever since i got it as a relatively young plant. there's only 7 leaves on it now and most of them seem relatively new. is this just the process of growth or am i doing something wrong?
My bottom leaves have dropped since I got her. But she’s growing new ones at the top so I’m assuming she’s fine? Lol 😂 I dunno. I thought she’d keep ‘em and be more full.
Great iformation! I have question. I have in water a main stem with only one large, healthy leaf. After roots development, 2pups have started growing underwater between the roots. They are about 1inc(2.5cm) tall. Also i see another 2 will pop up too. What should i do? Wait longer in water so pups will grow bigger and be able to remove them? Transfer it in soil as it is now with pups under soil?
If the pups are submerged in water, I’d remove them and pot them up. If not, I’d wait until they were a bit bigger, it will be easier for them to adjust to soil that way :)
@@JosieYapsALot I tried it, i kept the soil moist and not soaked in a very small terra cotta pot facing northern window with indirect light but they died in a week :(
As babies they need more light than the north side can offered.. east side window or south west (couple of feet away from the window so the sun won’t scorch them and water when the soil completely dries out
Is there any way to propagate from a leaf and stem fallen leaf?. The leaf is still very green and free of damage but no plant material on bottom of stem..can I use it to propagate?
You can always give it a shot and hope for the best but I think the chances are minimal. It needs to have at least some stem material on it to propagate. Hope that helps:)
Mine also dropped 5-6 leaves from the bottom before I picked her back up and took control of the situation. She is doing good now, lots of babies and new leaves, but the bottom is leaveless and just kind of long out of the soil. is it ok for me to find it a pot to cover the naked bottom of the plant? Or accept her as she is? lol
I’m not a grow light expert but you’d probably want full spectrum lights, I leave mine on for about 8-9hrs/day and they seem to be ok with that. I personally use the Monios T-8 grow lights on my shelves and I heard people recommend Sandi bulbs if you just want one light. Hope that helps!
Hello I just got my pilea plant 2 weeks ago and I notice the soil was dry as a bone and watered it. And the leafs are still a little droopy and one even got dark black on the sides … does that mean I have root rot ? What should I do any tips ☹️
Hiyaaa, sorry to hear about your plant. It does sound like it might be overwatered or possibly have root rot. Sometimes plants are more likely to develop rot if they haven’t been watered for a long time so it’s totally possible. I’d say just wait until it’s completely dry again before watering and put it in a nice, bright spot, preferably one that gets about 2-3hrs of sunlight. You might lose some leaves in the process but I think that’s the only thing you can do atm. When it does dry out (might take a week or two?), make sure not to wait with the watering too long. Hope that helps :)
@@JosieYapsALot thanks so much the leaf fell off today but everyone else looks fine I watered it 1 week ago and the soil still looks pretty moist :) hopefully it drys I’m scared it might stay moist since it’s really compound soil 🥲 I’ll keep you updated haha if you’d like to know my plants recovery
Hi! I’m a brand new plant mom. This may seem like a dumb question, but is fertilizer the same thing as plant food? Do you recommend any particular brand? How often should I fertilize or give it plant food?
Hiiiii! Not a dumb question at all! To me they are basically the same thing, just with a different name. There are however products that focus solely on fertilizing plants - some popular choices are Liquid Gold Leaf, Liquidirt, or I've heard good things about Tanks Green's powder fertilizer, but honestly I've been using MiracleGro for the majority of my plant journey and my plants have loved it :D But there's also brands that make "plant supplements" you could say, an example of that would be Superthrive, which you can use with a fertilizer as using it on its own won't be enough but will give the plants a lil something extra 😏 Hope that helps, and welcome to the community!!!! 💕
My pileas are both way lighter than yours, your pileas are so vibrant green! 😍 mine are almost bleached.. maybe they are standing too bright? My mojito pilea’s new groth is coming in al wonky, do you know what it might be?
Yeah I think that might be because of too much light, try moving them away from the window a bit and see what happens! As for your Mojito, could be that it was watered inconsistently or it’s lacking nutrients. Feel free to dm me on instagram with a photo, seeing it might give me a better idea 😎❤️
