Xerosicyos Danguyi care and propagation (with updates!)

  • The Xerosicyos danguyi is a beautiful vining succulent hailing from Madagascar. It lives in bright and arid landscapes, requiring lots of light and very little water to get by. In this video I share my care, experiences, as well as propagation with updates at the end of the video. I also show how easy it is to overwater these, causing their rapid decline, but how resilient they are in coming back.

    A year ago, I bought one off Etsy and saw your video, mine didn’t grow for the entire year while it was by north facing window. Then I moved and took it to a south facing window, three ago it grew crazy and even had those little tentacles, I came back to your video and give it some support to wrap on. Today, I’m back to your video again gonna try propagate some more. I just love this plant so much, so simple, green, and cute. Thanks for your video, literally I learn something new every time I come back to this video! Thank you thank you! ❤

    Sean videos are "bad" influences. First, propagation, then say sorry to plants. And now I am hooked on those cute little transparent pots. Oh, I miss the opening "I like to nerd out" 😅

      Those stringy grabbers are called tendrils. Their SOLE purspuse is for grabbing and clinging on to the the plants it attatches itself to. This plant is actually in the cucumber family and when grown from SEED, it will develop a slight caudex at the base of the stem. There is a male plant and a female plant in this species. ❤

    Thanks for this video. It's really helpful. I have a question, if I may. My plant sprouts new shoots quite willingly, but then they die off: the ends turn brown and dry and just die. I water it once a week in the summer. It sits on a dresser by a south-west facing window, about 50cm from it.

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  11 місяців тому

      It might be getting too little water depending on your growing substrate and pot type. I water mine every day but it is in terracotta pot and very rocky/sandy medium. So it dies up completely within hours.
