    It’s always nice to hear from people who can appreciate how much of a force Monica was in her dominant years. Her unique talents and persona were next level. She was truly an iconic champion whose rule was cut way too short. She obviously would have shattered all records and it wouldn’t have taken her long.

      She’s the best ever. Total grand slams mean nothing in her circumstances. She was from a different universe. It’s no coincidence that a deranged Steffi Graf fan felt he had to take her out, because Steffi likely wouldn’t have ever seen the number one ranking again if he hadn’t. Monica won their big matches, and consistently dominated the rest of the field in all of the tournaments she entered in 90-93.

      Yes the cleanest striker of the ball behind only Davenport. How do you compare their ground strokes? Davenport had longer classic strokes very flat and perfect timing. Seles also had flat and perfect timing but their strokes and technique are so different it's interesting.

    • @Ricky-mo6mv
      @Ricky-mo6mv 11 місяців тому +2

      @@christianWilliams-pc4jn Agreed. Seles had more compact strokes for sure and faster wrist action. Monica got her power and angles from her wrist acceleration while Davenport hit a heavy stroke through the ball. Both had amazing timing for sure.

      @@Ricky-mo6mv Yeah true and that's why Davenport was the better cleaner striker off the ball. Monica used to much wrist, her strokes weren't as mechanically and technically sound as Davenport's.

    Thanks for this video. I wanted to see her close-up video. I am a beginner in tennis but I am pretty good at golf. My instructor was teaching me one handed forehand but I was having trouble controlling the racket and my arm was hurting. I tried the golf grip (right hand top grip) just like what Monica does and I can hit the ball hard and control the ball much better. I decided to switch to hitting both sides like Monica. My forehand (Monica's backhand) is just like a golf swing so I no longer get mixed up. I just need to get used to my backhand. If she made it to the top, an amateur like myself can do whatever. I hope my instructor is someone who understands.

    incredibly quick hands and the point of contact remains in the same hitting zone. That's one HUGE mistake intermediate players make. They move their hitting zone all over the place. That's what footwork is for folks. Move those feet! Monica had great quick steps, as you can see in the video. She wasn't as strong moving wide side to side. She would start lunging at the ball. The good news for her was that she could go for a winner at any spot in the court when you got her in trouble. And she made those shots more than she missed them.

      Nice thoughts, but the truth is we'll never know how history would have played out. We can look at Seles' lack of fitness after her comeback to give an idea of how she was growing into her body, and how that was affecting her movement and timing. Living in the world of what-ifs is fun, but at some point you come back to the reality of what is.

      I idolized her so much back in the early 90’s that I switched from a one handed forehand to a 2 handed forehand. I wasn’t sure exactly how to hit it or place my hands at first, but it naturally and rather quickly developed into her exact same technique. It served me well and threw people off on my high school tennis team. Unfortunately, I was never able to get my 2 handed backhand to be nearly as brilliant and well produced as Monica’s. Not even close. I mean my entire game wasn’t even close, but my forehand literally looked exactly like Monica’s. Haha
      A few years later, I did go back to a one handed forehand, but with much more topspin than my prior one hander.Not really sure why I switched, but I will say it definitely takes more effort and footwork to play a two handed forehand for sure.
