      How do you feel about the average cost of a round of golf at an average/above average course. Do you think rates are fair (even regardless of the current cost of living). Golf courses that charge say £35/40 in the week (yorskhire area), from experience are very quiet in the week, why dont they open them up so more can play at a fair cost

    My suggestion for the partner: have her tee up from a point on the golf course where she has a chance to hit the green in regulation. For a par 4, she might tee up 50 yards behind the 150 yard marker. With a 125 yard drive and a 75 yard approach shot, she can get on the green and have a good pace of play. For par 5s, maybe she starts 250 yards back. On the par 3s, she can take those at 100 yards. Basically, she can "tee it forward" at just the right distance for her.

    • @nutyyyy
      @nutyyyy 11 місяців тому

      Quite right. This is how everyone should play. If you can't reach a Par 4 in two shots (distance wise), then definitely move forward a tee box. It will be a much more fun experience.

    LOVE IT when this drops on UA-cam at a nice early time. Makes the day :D
    Couple off wee questions guy seeing as yer here.
    1. How long would you say it's reasonable for a new golfer to get to the point where they are breaking 100 consistently? I've been playing nearly a year now, a good amount, and having lessons... but feel I'm going backwards more than forwards. Makes me want to give up but the content you lads put out keep me going "Golf is hard"!
    2. How do you guys feel/think about doing some behind the scenes content? What goes into making your videos? A VLOG of you guys making a video. Are there people playing behind you? What's a day in the office like etc? Just think a wee mini series on that from your perspective or something would be cool AF. More relatable to us at home too!
    Cheers mate!

    • @RickShielsGolfShow
      @RickShielsGolfShow  2 роки тому +4

      1.) how long is a piece of string! Sadly, it's very hard to say! So many factors and sadly it's hard to say. However, I would look at just trying to avoid the really bad holes. Play sensible golf and try to avoid danger, if you end up in trouble just to play sensible shots.
      2.) Possibly, but the big focus is the main channel so we want to spend as much time as possible to make those videos the best!

    • @bernard0camp0s

      I played for 9 years before starting to break 100 consistently. It got better once I:
      1) started playing/practicing more than once/twice per week
      2) accepted I needed to practice chipping and putting more; regarding chipping specifically, I reeeally benefited from knowing exactly which clubs and how to hit from 40,60,80 yards

    Great podcast. One of the best things you do on your podcasts is show different sides of golf - photographer, news reporter, caddy, etc. Great insight into what's normally never seen. Please do more tips and drills. And when you do more club reviews please consider 2 things. One, most club reviewers are pros like yourself - meaning they/you play at an elite level better than 90% of other golfers. They/you evaluate a club for their own skill level and game. If I played at your level I'd do my own evaluation and wouldn't need your reviews. I'll never play at your level and you'll never see a blade in my bag. So for #1 is: relate club reviews to the 90% of average golfers. Two, the bottom line reason for watching a club review is to be informed before I go to the store and demo clubs - in other words to influence my buying decision. I can't recall anyone ending a review by saying "These clubs are mediocre. Buy something else." All clubs seem to be "good" or "very good." That makes it hard for me to understand the differences. From the consumer perspective what I really want is to separate the "should demo" from the "waste of time" clubs. Also, l'd love to see you review direct-to-consumer clubs (New Level, Takomo, Sub 70, etc) because demoing their clubs is hard or impossible.

    A big part of learning golf is learning how to play in a group. And bad golf doesn't need to be slow golf. I play with a lot of people who can't break 90 and they still play quickly, never holding up the group. I grew up playing with my father, so I was taught a lot of things that promote pace of play.
    Play ready golf.
    If you're playing honors, be ready when it's your turn (know your distance, your target and have your club in your hand)
    Watch your playing partners shots in case you have to look for a ball.
    Keep an extra ball in your pocket.
    Leave your clubs on the edge of the green near the next tee box.
    Collect your playing partners clubs if you've putted out.
    Walk with purpose.

    I understand wanting to spend time with your dad but having a girlfriend or boyfriend that wants to play more golf with you is an incredible opportunity. To say they are not on our level is selfish. I play golf with a ten year old and I don’t try to shoot my personal best I try to help my 10 year old enjoy his round and in the mean time I tweak my game while moving at the child’s pace. The girl friend problem could be solved with a similar attitude. I liked Rick’s comments about the different formats but one way or another quit trying to play for yourself and play for the enjoyment of others.

    100% agree that playing more team games and formats would improve the situation for everyone. A tour scramble or texas scramble is a great idea. I agree it's probably more due to the pace of play and the frustration that sets in. Scramble is so great that you rarely have to hit it out of trouble. The most frustrating thing for new players is hitting shots beyond their ability, out of trees, bunkers, thick rough, difficult lies, etc. The scramble format typically eliminates this part of the game.

It also helps just golfing with other couples. Stop being such a try hard and golf with your spouse once in awhile.
