I surfed Petecalco in Mexico in the same area back in the 70s - which was a similar wave. These waves like NF is on, I can only imagine the power. On 7ft Petecalco any wipeout pinned you on the cobblestone bottom and popped your ears. I got my first case of swimmer ear there. A wave like Nate's could easily kill you. Much respect to these warriors
any petacalco stories? always was interested in the place, not much info about. They say the jetty for river destroyed it.. but where did the energy go if it had a similar canoyon funnel?
@@87gn199 The surf was great there, but a few Californians were trying to act as if they owned it and threatened us not to take pictures or videos. We camped on the beach and surfed it for a week or more. very spectacular like the article when Eric Penny and Craig Naughton went there. Years later I read an article that said the government and Oaxaca officials decided to terrace the surrounding mountains as an erosion control project, and all the runoff silted in the break - like Cape St Francis. I bet it's still good. It's so far south in Mexico that we felt pretty vulnerable. There were two marine looking big muscle bound guys from Wobasso with big wave guns that sort of chuckled at us with our 7' beach break boards. They watched me a couple times and said - not bad after the best takeoff side slip in the tube I had on the trip. We were riding single fins/no leashes.
Makes me feel better about doing the same thing on Sunday at Mangawhai. However, the scale of my wave and underwater adventure was a lot smaller fortunately!
nate's gotta be one of the best surfers that's ever lived.
committed and fearless.
camera man staying focused on the barrel to show what nate missed out on
E A T E N by the beast.
He was definitely going for it.

@@87gn199 I tried to send my story - it didn't go through
A drainage project was said to have destroyed the break. Probably silted in the former cobblestone bottom. It was epic
That wave was a monster!🤙
Damn Nate, you got diskappeared. Glad you okay, that was sick
Ahhh, WOW..😯
Awesome.
Que caldooo😮 brother
Look at that air drop. If he makes that he is a legend!
Oh shit!

Totally nailed ,probably landed on his board too ,RIP
Don’t die Blondie.🌊🌲🇺🇸☝️
He stood up at the landing instead of staying locked in. Heavy water
That HAD to have been a punishing beating. Jesus
The great thing about Nathan is no doubt he was still likely thinking ‘I can make this’ 😬🫣
…the guys a champion!
that´s what I though, all that time he was on the air he was believing he could control the contact
Trying to stick that is insane. Easily 10 feet of that was airdrop.
Suplexed
That place is SO heavy.
coulda been deeper
shit
How does he hold onto the GoPRo mouth mount during a wipeout like this!!!!
vertical face and he is freefalling but yet still committed
Smoke city set in Gnar Gnar Land.
Looks mushy
Did he dead?
Heavy Wipeout.
Sorry man.
He almost landed that
