Listen to the words of this song, it’s the year 2020 and those words are so a part of our lives now if everybody would listen… So meaningful, so deep, so profound
So sad that the generation that grew up on this still need to hear the message...😔
blackprix truly!
Classic Rock Lady I agree
AMEN!!
👍😁✌
Shondells is pronounced like "Shawn-DELLS" with the emphasis on the second syllable. They were definitely one of the grooviest groups of the late 60s.
“This group is tight” and NO auto tune! Hard to imagine now but there was a time when singers didn’t need auto tune to perfect their sound!
That’s right . Singers had to actually be able to sing, and bands had to be able to play these songs live in concert. Not so produced that it can’t be actually performed .
Five Tommy James hits worth a listen to, include, Sweet Cherry Wine, Draggin The Line, Mony Mony, I think we're alone now and She. The bands sound evolved throughout their career.
She by Graham Parsons is so much better than she by Tommy James
Could use that PEACE AND GOOD BROTHERHOOD CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION. Tommy James and Donavon are overlook gems from that time because everyone was over shadowed by the Beatles.
The next song of theirs you review should be "Draggin' The Line".
Oh man forgot that one.....awesome
Most Definitely
YES
Yes!
Absolutely!
Incredibly mellow.
The 60’s rocked.
Love Tommy James and the Shondells. We need this song today, right now
No doubt...
hazel vee, yes, we do!
Say that again for those in the bleacher seats!
Back in the sixties when this song came out I bought it on a 45 RPM record that I played over and over and over again until you hear all the scratches and clicks through the song. Oh what a great era.
You said it Sammy What a Great Era!
So did I.
I read somewhere, that back in the summer of 1969, the band's secretary took a phone call. After she hung up, she told Tommy that some promoters wanted the band to perform at a "paying gig" in upstate New York at a pig or cow farmers farm. Tommy laughed and told her can you imagine that, us on a pig farm. 2 weeks later they learned about Max Yasgurs farm and what just occurred there. "Woodstock"
Should've taken that gig.
Just wow!
Mony Mony,Draggin the line and I think we are alone now. Also checkout Tighter and Tighter(written and produced by Tommy James) by Alive and Kicking. Thanks for reacting to one of my all time favorite songs.
Great song Tighter, Tighter feat. Tommy James with Alive n Kickin'.
Tighter and tighter was great
My favorite song by them was I Think We're Alone Now
Norm Weldon yes , my favorite too👩🏼🦳
It was a perfect song choice to be included in Breaking Bad!!
🎶😊🎶
Tight tight tight
Check out crimson and clover or draggin the line by them!
This has a mystic feel to it, really easy listening. His voice just compliments the amazing music on this. Really strong impressive vocals on this! ♥️ I remember now that they played this song on ‘Breaking Bad’ series.
missgmoma Great description! I don’t remember hearing this one before. It’s so mellow! 💖💖💖
Turd Ferguson hi chick, thanks. I’ve heard it before but it was by someone else, maybe on a movie or commercial or something like that. I don’t know if this is the original version. So easy listening sound to it . 🥰✌🏻
This song has a really beautiful message when you listen to the lyrics. Almost like something from a dream. A dream we almost could have achieved.
I like your reactions to the songs of the 70's the harmonies were great back then, the songs of today don't compare to them.
The artists back then broke so many boundaries.
Draggin’ the Line, Draggin’ the Line, Draggin’ the Line!
"Sugar On Sunday" , "I Think We're Alone Now", "Sweet Cherry Wine", "Ball of Fire" & "Draggin' The Line"...Just LOVE Tommy James!
Yes, yes, all songs are excellent! 💥💥💥💥💥
One of my absolute favorites!! Played it in my 45 record player . I'd be dancing and swirling around in my bedroom.. a 10 year old girl having fun.
I like those memories 😁
Be still my beating heart 💗. I'm loving this musical journey you're taking us on....seeing and hearing all the wonderful songs from my lifetime thru your lenses 🔥💥🤗
You may have heard this song on The Pilot Episode of The Wonder Years. In the 1980's alot of his Songs reached a whole new generation of Fans. Tiffany did "I Think We're Alone Now", Billy Idol did "Mony Mony" and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts did "Crimson & Clover".
Tommy James is still alive at the age of 74. I grew up listening to this amazing singer and talent. My oldest brother got me hooked on him. RIP big brother.
One of the best songs out there, it has good vibrations, I still enjoy listening to this and I’m 72
"Hanky Panky" is another song by Tommy James and the Shondells worth a listen. It's a little more up tempo, 60's rock..
Thanks so much for your reaction! I am a 62 year old man and it is so gratifying to see younger people appreciate how beautiful and relevant this song is, even today! Keep it up!
Love that song. Brings me way back to summer days of my youth.
Next Dragging the line
you're right, this one does sound timeless, the production is great and its from 1969. I Think We're Alone Now is another one of their best songs
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung.
Song always knocks me out!!!
two other songs by them that have been covered for years but they do it best MONY MONY -played at every wedding and I think we're alone now. both different from crimson and crystal
Ha Ha, I forgot Mony Mony, they were beating us to death with Crimson and Clover every third song on the radio, good group though.
i actually like billy idols version better especially to work out to
@@frankmerris8821 i always loved Billy's cover better also. He did it great justice.
@@lowrider4266 yea fires me up everytime
@@frankmerris8821 same here.
I have always loved ❤this song.
I think we’re alone now and Draggin the line by Tommy James next. I love this song. He considered Crystal Blue Persuasion to be his masterpiece.
I love Love LOVE this song! Tommy has some great hits, probably worth checking out some more, though this is my favorite.
Totally late 60's!!! Very refreshing song!!! Great reaction!!!
“I Think We’re Alone Now” is their best song, for my money.
Senior prom! Two tone blue colors! Oh the memories!
1st time I heard this I was so young, my older cousin was babysitting, I wanted her to play it repeatedly, I loved it then, love it now 😍
now, ya gotta try Tommy James and The Shondells: Crimson and Clover...also I Think We're Alone Now...both banging ass songs. Tiffany did a cover of 'I Think We're Alone Now' in the 80s that also became a national hit and it instantly turned Tiffany into a major heart throb of the 80s
An ALL-TIME favourite. Touches my soul every time. 'Maybe tomorrow, When He looks down, On every green field and every town, All of His children, Every nation, They'll be peace and good, brotherhood, Crystal Blue Persuasion'.
Check out "HEY THERE LONELY GIRL" by EDDIE HOLMAN ...its on Oldie.
This a great performance live.
He reacted to that song already. You can find it on his channel. It was a great reaction.
@@detraturpin2112..aw thanks
I liked another song as well as Hey There Lonely Girl, which is different but same era, called Little Green Bag. I had NO idea what it was about until years later. I was a freshman in high school for Lonely Girl and Little Green Bag.
Such a SMOOTH song! So Relaxing!
Great choice! I've liked this one for a lot of years.
So glad I had the privilege of getting to hear all the different music from the 60s 70s 80s it was and is the best music!!!
my most favorite summer song...
This differently one of the oldie but goodie song. I remember this song when I was probably 11 or 12. Pretty song.
Tommy James and the Shondells have a bunch of hits. We bought the DVD of their history through Tommy James eyes. They are great! Sweet Cherry Wine, Draggin the Line, I think We're Alone Now, ohhhh and so many more. Although this is my favorite!!! Peace and Love and Rock and Roll! :) Love your reaction! More Tommy James and The Shondells.... 1969 ish if I remember correctly. Sometime around that time. Maybe 1971... Will have to look! Great song!
I grew up with bands like this and didn't know how much to appreciate them. They are woven into my childhood memories and now they are a part of your memories too. BTW...love your reaction videos!
This song was released in 1968. I was 13 and was very well aware of what was going on in the world thanks to my mom. She was very politically aware and watched the news and read constantly about what was going on in the country, in particular the Vietnam War. This song was an oasis and talked about peace and good and Brotherhood. At the tender age of 13, I believed in the words of all rock and roll songs that sang about peace and love. The song had a calming effect on me. I listened to this song on a regular basis well into my 30s. I'm of the opinion that if more people would truly listen to the words of old rock and roll, and take them to heart, the world would be a much better place.
We in the USA truly need some Crystal Blue Persuasion spread throughout.
Such a great song. Tommy James has the perfect for this. Has a touch of The Rascals few in it. Psychedelic Rock is very soothing.
I was 18 when this came out in 1968, every one including me was playing this on their boomboxes ( Cassette or 8 track players ) in between performances at Woodstock in 1969.. it was our Psychedelic rock.....
Love it Jayvee your enthusiasm is infectious.Try “ Dragin the line”
U get introduced to these awesome oldies & those of us, who havn't heard them FOR SOME TIME, get reminded of them, to hear them again. Love that song! 🥰
Another awesome song. I brought this 45 LP and turned it white because I played it so much. I finally found their greatest hits on a CD. I still play it on my computer when I'm working!!! ❤❤❤
Very apt song for today. What a nice voice wow. Very good choice Jay great reaction. Just nice. ☺☺💖💕💖
Gotta throw a shout out to jayvee, got the best reaction site going.....

I have always loved this song. And then it was used in one of my favorite shows of all time Breaking Bad😄 it's just great all-around❤
My favorite summer song. 🤗💖🤗 Puts me in the zone every time....
So sophisticated. Crystal blue….
Thank you for this one Jay! This is a really nice sound sample. Very clear and pretty sounding. You can hear everything! Put this one in your back pocket!! You may want it readily available.
You’re a great guy so I’m going to give a little piece of advice. If you find someone you really like, hopefully you’ll remember my suggestion and that you have this in your back pocket. Ya know what this song needs…? Some nice lighting, plus a couple of candles, a gentle summer night’s breeze, two glasses, a bottle of white Zinfandel, and something that smells really nice like something delicious cooking in the background, mixed with a tiny bit of cologne or perfume, and your smile of coarse. PERFECT EVENING, solid.
You are so nice. I hope you have, or find happiness. 🥰
Tommy James and the Shondells are an American rock band, formed in Niles, Michigan in 1964. They had two No. 1 singles in the U.S., "Hanky Panky" (July 1966, their only RIAA Certified Gold record) and "Crimson and Clover" (February 1969), and also charted twelve other Top 40 hits, including five in the Hot 100's top ten: "I Think We're Alone Now", "Mirage", "Mony Mony", "Sweet Cherry Wine", and "Crystal Blue Persuasion"
This is one of my favorite songs ever...so glad you dig it too!
Tommy James and the Shondells are a a great band from the 60s. I enjoy his show on Serius XM on Sundays to listen to music from the 60s and the many war stories he has
First 45 I bought in my life back in 1967 when I was 8 years old. Still love it.
Every time I see your reactions to these bands, I relive the experience of hearing this music for the first time. For that, I really thank you... wishing you all the best.
When I was a teenager I got to see them perform in my town in a big park outside on a sunny summer day, it was great !!!
Thank you ❤️🥰🎶
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗LOve your reaction
Reminds me of basement parties
One of the ULTIMATE feel-good songs of all time. I've loved this song since I was a little kid back in the 70s.
My favorite group! Sweet cherry wine, dragging the line, tighter and tighter. Also mony, mony.
Hey J...they've got tons of great songs! Please review more! And as always thanx for the great memories. I get a kick out of watching you enjoying my oldies!
This 60's smash hit really hits memories for me. There was the Vietnam War and Civil disturbance back then but no cell phones and social media so in a way times were more slower pace and people communicated more face to face. Tommy James and the Shondells had many songs that did well on the charts including, I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW, CRIMSON AND CLOVER AND HANKY PANKY. A great soul classic worth a listen is the Dells singing, " THE LOVE WE HAD, STAYS ON MY MIND
My favourite song .1st on my play list .love it love it 👍🎧🎵🌅🎸🌞
Love this song 🎵
I wake up to this song !! Looking at what's going on in this world it takes me back in time!! Good song !! 👍
Another great song from a great era, love your reactions and channel..
Oh Thank You for this one Jay💕I knew you would love it💕Sweet Cherry Wine and Dragging The Line are great too💕
This is my very favorite song. It still is relative all these years later.
Tommy James has been writing (and performing great songs for over four decades. Some of his solo material is as good as the work he did with the Shondells.
More than *five* decades. He first recorded in 1964 and has been writing since at least "Mony, Mony" in 1968.
Hi Jay and friends out there!! I love this song !!
I t has a beautiful message of love and hope
And a better world..!its like prophetic of our future world after the evil
Has been wiped off and only thing left is love,
Peace.. made me cry!!
Came out when I was a teenager ..1960s..
Be kind .like jay!!
How many parties was this played.....What a GROOVE!!! Great group and reaction!!!
This was one of my favorite songs from my youth. Went looking for it just now and found you, hearing it for the first time. Your reaction and layered appreciation were a delight to me. Thank you.
Boy, This takes me back. One of the best pop songs ever.
The great music of the 60s and 70s, you’re right they could be great songs today because they were great then And even greater today cause they stood the test of time, many many of them
'Love the lyrics...... 'Peace and good Brotherhood'...........The world could do with more of that. ❤️
Javon, you have such an appreciation and understanding of all music! You kreally enjoy your reactions!

My baby does the "Hanky Panky" Another great one by TJ&Shondells
The title of the song came to James while he was reading The Bible's Book of Revelation, according to James in a 1985 interview in Hitch magazine: I took the title from the Book of Revelations in the Bible, reading about the New Jerusalem. The words jumped out at me, and they're not together; they're spread out over three or four verses. But it seemed to go together, it's my favorite of all my songs and one of our most requested.
“Crystal Blue Persuasion” was one of those album hopefuls, spurred on by a chance encounter. “We were playing a college in Atlanta,” James remembers. “Afterwards, we would do meet and greets, sign autographs and stuff. A kid ran up to me with a poem. And he said, ‘Tommy, please just take it with you.’ He was really fanatical about it, so I said, ‘OK.’
“As a songwriter, you’re always looking for interesting word combinations and stuff. And the title of this poem was ‘Crystal Persuasion.’ I just thought that was a fascinating title. I had no idea what it meant, but it sounded very profound.”
James realized afterwards that the title fit with his budding interest in religion, with the words sourced from the Biblical Book of Revelation. “I was also going through a change in my life,” James says. “I was becoming a Christian at that moment. So this all seemed to fit together. We took it back to the hotel room and wrote it. We didn’t really use the poem, just the title. To make the rhyming scheme work, I needed one more syllable, and ‘blue’ sounded like the right word and it became ‘Crystal Blue Persuasion.’ Eddie Gray played guitar for me then, and he came up with that little riff. Mike Vale and I wrote the lyrics and it just came together, just kind of fell out of our face right there in the hotel room.” - Excerpted from "Behind the Song"- unknown date in 2021
Love this song!!!!!
I have to say, I was born in1960 I heard the best music of my life in this time, music back then was so sweet, these songs will never die, blast from the past. The younger generation will never know the quality of what real music sounds like. Enjoy people.
Whoo hoo, one of my favorite songs ever! I use to play this song over and over as a young teen! Also love "I think we're alone now" and "Draggin' the Line"!
Crimson & Clover and Draggin' The Line are two other amazing songs ✌😎

Great song. We believed the world could change.
I saw them when I was in high school. The Young Rascals opened for them. It was a great show -- both bands.
