Another one of the great 60's groups I grew up with. They started out as "The Young Rascals" but later were just known as "The Rascals". They were considered rock & blue-eyed soul. They had a lot of hits such as "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore", "You Better Run", "I've Been Lonely Too Long", "Good Lovin'", "How Can I Be Sure", "People Got To Be Free", "A Beautiful Morning", "A Girl Like You", "It's Wonderful" etc.

Don’t you be sad Mel!! You are 2 of the nicest kids (I’m 75 so I can say that😅) on the ‘reaction scene’. You are thoughtful, kind and genuine and Shawn is a real gentleman. ‘Groovin’ is a great song I’d gladly teach Mel how to do the Cha-Cha to. (Shawn you can watch and then take over) Thanks to Dagmar for listing a bunch of the songs I would have forgotten to mention. THIS is a DEEP rabbit hole kids!! She did leave out their version of Midnight Hour, which is the version I like to play on my guitar, and is a little more hard hitting than Wilson Pickett’s version. I have to elaborate….I grew up loving Motown. First time I heard the Rascals I thought they were black as well! Then I found out the truth, and I then gave them my own personal label, which to me was the greatest complement: “these are a bunch of white guys from Long Island who sound black!” Every song listed by Dagmar is a winner, I guarantee you will agree! GO DOWN THAT HOLE kids!!! You’ll be glad you did!!

This is classic rock gold, it will never die, it sounds as fresh today as it did in 1967, it was a huge hit. You surely know that white kids were really affected by black music styles, and black music has been emulated by white musicians for generations and was a major part in ending discrimination. Black blues music was the main ingredient in the development of rock&roll. Love your reactions!

I had the great pleasure of seeing these guys twice back in the middle and late 60's. Unlike some groups which seemed to appropriate black music at the time for monetary gain, these guys added to the genre. They were soulful, respectful of other artists in the genre, and a fun band to watch. The first real blue eyed soul group. They had a lot of hits listed by some here, but my favorites were "Lonely Too Long", "A Girl Like You", and "Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore". Do more of this great group.

Never apologize for thinking they were black! I adore both your reactions 😆 just shows the fabulous vocalists out there. I grew up in the 70s and was fortunate enough to listen to music from the 50s on up from my brothers and sisters. As a white Canadian chick, I became addicted to the Motown sound.

This band seems overlooked by those reacting . They had several big hits . Their secret weapon was 2 great lead vocalists , and fine songwriting . They did some psychedelic albums later on . A New York band .

I can’t believe how many years have gone by since the songs from the Rascals were out, I’m now 74 yrs old. Wish I could relive these years again, I wouldn’t take all of our wonderful music for granted, thinking they would always be here. 😪😥

There is no need to feel ignorant. That is the beauty of music, especially before MTV. We heard wonderful singers on the radio and never knew what the ethnicity of most were. Music was the great unifier for many of us.

Hi Guys. One of my favourites from the 60s. Thanks for playing it. Mel, you felt this was a black band. Well, if you haven't heard it before, pleas listen to UB40 and "Many Rivers To Cross" , and any other UB40 song. The lead singer, Ali Campbell is a white singer, but many people thought he was black. Try to get the video in church.

One of the great groups of the '60s. They combined rock, soul and blues. Excellent harmonies with great lyrics and also their.own style when they covered a song. Their 'Time/ Peace' album is a collection of their greatest hits. You could react to all of them.

When we heard these classics on the radio in the old days, the Dj would usually announce the name of the song and band either after or before playing it. So we all knew who these guys were back then. Used to be the Young Rascals, then morphed into the Rascals, later.

The Rascals had a soulful groove w/in them in all their songs from the beginning. IMO, their most soulful performance was " Temptation 'Bout to Get Me" which truly showcased their blue-eyed Italiano soul vocals. Unbelievable vocal instruments by Felix & Eddie. Pls give a listen. Will blow y'all away. Mahalo & aloha!
