My mom dated Tommy James back in the day. His book has a picture of the record shop he worked at, my mom is in that pic, my aunt as well who owned it

This was about his Christian conversion back in the day. Check out Ezekiel I think chapter 35 where it talks about a blue light. The "son is arising"..... The song is layered in deep messages back when music had a message
It's not a drug Tommy is one number one Christian above all. His songs always has God with all he did. He will put God into some how.

OMG one of the greatest songs that could apply today. We need love and harmony in our lives instead of division. Peace is needed in our country right now. Washington DC should listen to this beautiful song!!!
Was out in 69 one of their biggest hits. Tommy is underated in my opinion. To me a great singer and songwriter. Probably their biggest hit was Crimson and Clover in 68. Had many great songs Mony Mony, Out of the Blue, Mirage, Ball of Fire, I think we're alone Now. It's a travesty their not in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, waiting since 91. That venue may be a joke tho. This was out when psychedelic music was popular, actually one of my favorite genres. To me the 60s and 80s were the best decades for music.
The little Bibles left inside the hotels they used to travel in were BLUE! That's what crystal Blue Persuasion meant.

I was also 10 years old when this song came out, it is one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time! Other great songs from them are Sweet Cherry Wine, Crimson and Clover and Mony Mony.

According to Tommy James' manager, "According to James's manager, James was actually inspired by his readings of the Book of Ezekiel, which (he remembered as) speaking of a blue Shekhinah light that represented the presence of the Almighty God, and of the Book of Isaiah and Book of Revelation, which tell of a future age of brotherhood of mankind, living in peace and harmony"
Oh, the memories this takes me back to! My last summer with my older cousins who were like the coolest big sisters any 7 year old could have, singing and dancing in my aunt's huge living room, with both my little sisters, going to Krystal for burgers, Dairy Queen for ice cream, just enjoying being a kid, before we traveled from New Orleans to California to stay for 2 years, because my Dad joined the SeaBees and was headed to Vietnam for 2 tours. Bittersweet memories there, but the song still makes me happy, even 56 years later. 😊👍

This is the good ole days of rock. Be it psychedelic rock or pop, hard rock or parking rock this is the definition of the rock I grew up with.☺️
This song came out WAY before crystal meth. But, they used it in "Breaking Bad" cause it just fit!

@mrm took my 4 kids to see him at Riverview in Val[araiso Ind. He was a total Gentleman. Kneeliing down on the stage in order to shake hands with ever one of my kids. Then told the Audience that if he said anything out of the way please remind him that little pitchers have big ears. lol He was great.

The title of the song came to James while he was reading The Bible's Book of Revelation, according to James in a 1985 interview in Hitch magazine: I took the title from the Book of Revelations in the Bible, reading about the New Jerusalem. The words jumped out at me, and they're not together; they're spread out over three or four verses. But it seemed to go together, it's my favorite of all my songs and one of our most requested.
“Crystal Blue Persuasion” was one of those album hopefuls, spurred on by a chance encounter. “We were playing a college in Atlanta,” James remembers. “Afterwards, we would do meet and greets, sign autographs and stuff. A kid ran up to me with a poem. And he said, ‘Tommy, please just take it with you.’ He was really fanatical about it, so I said, ‘OK.’
“As a songwriter, you’re always looking for interesting word combinations and stuff. And the title of this poem was ‘Crystal Persuasion.’ I just thought that was a fascinating title. I had no idea what it meant, but it sounded very profound.”
James realized afterwards that the title fit with his budding interest in religion, with the words sourced from the Biblical Book of Revelation. “I was also going through a change in my life,” James says. “I was becoming a Christian at that moment. So this all seemed to fit together. We took it back to the hotel room and wrote it. We didn’t really use the poem, just the title. To make the rhyming scheme work, I needed one more syllable, and ‘blue’ sounded like the right word and it became ‘Crystal Blue Persuasion.’ Eddie Gray played guitar for me then, and he came up with that little riff. Mike Vale and I wrote the lyrics and it just came together, just kind of fell out of our face right there in the hotel room.” - Excerpted from "Behind the Song"- unknown date in 2021

Crystal meth didn't yet exist in 1969. I've always heard this song as a prayer for what a better world could look like, once the Vietnam War came to an end.
The song is from the 60's the video was made in the 90's with footage of the 60's . There's a interview of Tommy James were he said he wrote this song after finding Jesus and embracing Christianity. The Crystal Blue Persuasion is a reference to the Book of Ezekiel where it speaks of the Blue Shekinah Light representing the presence of the Almighty God .

I was 10 when this came out. I was shielded from all the turmoil that was going on during that period - Assasinations of MLK, RFK. 500,000 troops in Vietnam. War protests. It was just awful.
Tommy became a Christian during the "Jesus Movement".
James was inspired by his readings of the book of Ezekiel ! Not about meth....🤦🏻nor drugs😂😂😂.. he sang about peace and love this song came out during the Vietnam war ! So my guess it was about Brotherhood! 😢😊

Back then there was a lot of people called the Jesus Freaks i was one of those, "when he looks down as in God " The blue is from his royal robes " this was a modern day song of God in the 70s. I'm a Christian apologist and I also am persuasive. Not that you are not, but my emphasis is religious in nature as I teach Christians how to dialogue with folks like Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons and Catholics. I'm VERY good. But YOUR talents...which are not lacking in the spiritual realm...are best used in the secular world..where there is a severe lack of folks who are able to talk reasonably
