This time in history was all about love and peace. Not like now where division and hate exist.
Been WAITING for you to do this one. It and Crimson and Clover will both blow you away!
I have so many favorite bands and songs but Crimson and Clover is one the best.
I Think We're Alone Now is also one of their best.
Don’t forget Mony Mony
@@RicoBurghFan Yeah, I really like I Think We’re Alone Now too.
Yes! Crimson and Clover!
My late sister loved this song and she used to dance with me in her arms to this song when I was 5 years old (I’m 57 now). Makes me smile every time I hear this song and I know she starts dancing in heaven.
I used to dance to this with my newborn son in my arms. Make sure of all things, hold fast to what is fine, (1Thess.5 :21)And you'll have the chance to dance again with her......
Their song Crimson and Clover is really good too!
Joan Jett rendition of it is pretty good too!
Has to be the long version!
@@FirstSuiGeneris joan jett ruined it.
@@umji3389 each artist bring their own style to their music. I don’t base the song purely on the original. If you know her style, then you know she a rocker!
The other song that is inextricably linked to this one is Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover." Both were released in 1969, and both left a lasting impression on those of us who were around to hear them at the time. But don't miss out on one of TJ&S's earlier hits, "I Think We're Alone Now" (from 1967). Me and my girlfriend at the time, that was "our song."
LOVE that song even if it is a bubble gum pop tune...its sexy as H 😉Just make sure J and Amber don't get the Tiffany cover - its not so great and nothing close to the original
Joan Jett did a great cover of "Crimson and Clover".
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. They should play it a lot more often on all the radio stations in the world.
There was a time when life felt like this. Around 1967.
I’ll be 67 this year. So blessed to have grown up with all this music. Beautiful reaction from you both. Peace and good , brotherhood , I think each generation is striving for “crystal blue persuasion from the heavens above. God is Love Amen 🙏🎶
Jay just said "what the world needs now". You haven't reacted to Jackie Deshannon yet. You have to do "What the World Needs Now Is Love". It's from 1965. You will love it!!!
Good call......
Heard that on Sirius today! Weird. What a great song.
'Teen Angst ' by Cracker is what the world needs now🤘🙋♂️
Jackie Deshannon ❗️
She was great.
[ I guess I kind of forgot about her. ]
📻🙂
The Chambers Brothers do the best cover of this song.
Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells is a must for you both, a classic song by this group.
I love Crimson and Clover. I use to borrow my older sister’s 45 vinyl single. I was a kid, she was a teenager.😊
We all desperately need this Crystal blue persuasion in our lives right now. This song is so relevant today, it's almost spooky!
Ah sweet memories of Junior High and High School….
Hanky Panky, Mony Mony, I Think We’re Alone Now and Crimson And Clover, then this song.
Hanky Panky was one of the first songs added to our 7th grade garage band’s repertoire. Brings back great memories!!❤️
Ron, I like your picks and was playing them too.
Found this online
“In a 1985 interview in Hitch magazine, James said the title of the song came to him while he was reading the Biblical Book of Revelation:
I took the title from the Book of Revelations [sic] in the Bible, reading about the New Jerusalem. The words jumped out at me, and they're not together; they're spread out over three or four verses. But it seemed to go together, it's my favorite of all my songs and one of our most requested.”
“According to James's manager, James was actually inspired by his readings of the Book of Ezekiel, which (he remembered as) speaking of a blue Shekhinah light that represented the presence of the Almighty God, and of the Book of Isaiah and Book of Revelation, which tell of a future age of brotherhood of mankind, living in peace and harmony.”
Amen.
wow !! makes sense why we love the song! wow the blue glory light i love it!
☝️😇
Never knew this ❤thanks!
Yes, the "new earth" promised by God himself ,brought about by him and not humankind, but his gift to humankind, with no more suffering, no more tears. "On earth as it is in heaven, when God's will is done. (Revelation 21 :1-5/Matthew 6:9,10 /Daniel 2:44!)the best - is yet to ccme!
This is one the most beautiful songs ever recorded, both musically and lyrically. "Crimson and Clover" is another great song from this band.
Over a half-decade since I "got it" & tears well-up every-beautiful-time. And I'm grateful to get the opportunity.
Well said. We slow danced to this song in the 60's.
My first crush and we slow danced to this dong.
Yes Yes Yes!!!!
Makes you smile. Big time!!!!
You two give me hope for the world, that was my generation.
The amount of hope for love and humanity in this song brings a warmth to my soul. The 60's were something else...
Crystal blue is old slang for crystal clear. Peace and love between all of us will heal the earth. It's crystal clear (blue).
I knew Amber would especially groove on this one! Gotta check out Tommy James and the Shondells' - Sweet Cherry Wine and The Rascals - It's A Beautiful Morning and Groovin'! Y'all keepin' the spirit alive with these reactions! Peace! ✌☮
Tommy James said "I took the title from the Book of Revelations in the Bible, reading about the New Jerusalem. The words jumped out at me, and they're not together; they're spread out over three or four verses. But it seemed to go together, it's my favorite of all my songs and one of our most requested."
Interesting. I did not know that, thank you.
I think, it could be a rumor, that Tommy James had studied the Bible, let's just say with a certain organization. He learned a bit! He called the book the "Crystal Blue Persuasion." (the book, a study aid, was blue) Revelation 12 is eye opening.
Right ...but without knowing *that* is the explanation about the origins of the song you could easily enough be thinking the song is about a wonderful LSD trip after dropping * Crystal Blue Persuasion* Acid
@@hasslefree1848 That's what I thought when I was a teen. It wasn't until I was an adult & started listening to the artists interviews & documentaries that I learned I did NOT know it all back then. My Dad was right after all.
@@janabraam7963 Right....There was a number of songs written based on LSD trips such as the Song: *Magic Carpet Ride* by Steppenwolf.....Then there was the song by Three Dog Night: *Mama Told Me Not To Come* where in the beginning of the song the Lyrics say: Have some Whiskey in your water, some SUGAR in your Tea and alluding to LSD in the Tea by way of Sugar Cube Acid ( LSD ) that was in circulation and popular in the form of a Sugar Cube having a measured dose of LSD applied to the Sugar Cube......Beside the other kinds of LSD that was sold in pill form and known as Purple Microdot or Yellow Sunshine or Window Pane Acid ( a small transparent thin *chip* of freeze dried acid formulation ) Or Blotter Acid by way of a small square of sheet paper with a measured drop of LSD 25 applied to the square piece of paper
Numerous Songs based on LSD and LSD trips.....They say??? Santana and his band were all high on LSD when they played Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock in 1969...Maybe ..maybe not ...Cheers
Pretty straightforward. That change that took place fifty years ago was an awakening. No going backwards. Very insightful performance by James. Brilliant
So glad that you got the message Amber and Rob. This was played continuously on the radio. You have to love the message. Thanks for reacting to this.😊
Tommy James was a born again Christian when he wrote this. The lyric “when He looks down” refers to God looking down on all of his children in every nation. The lyric “the sun is arising” can also be “the Son is arising”, referring to Jesus.
Natural, spiritual, peaceful, beautiful and I hope everyone gets the message. Great analysis.
One of my favorite songs when I was a kid in the 60’s. Named my daughter Crystal because of it.
Definitely Crimson and Clover. Big hit.
Born in ‘53 and known for my hippie vibes I would love to bring back our love and peace but no one’s listening.
Soon we’ll be gone off this beautiful earth and all that will be left of us is our music.✌🏻
Another great song from my generation. Thank you for reviewing.
When Amber puts her hand on her chest just below her throat you know she is feeling the message. Love it. The peace on your face is where we all went when we heard this song.
I’ve been waiting to see Amber’s reaction to this one, a real 60s vibe!!
I'm definitely on that worldwide love train!!! He's talking about Christianity, with Jesus looking down at all of his children, in all of the nations. Great song. Great reaction.
"What did the song Crystal Blue Persuasion mean?
He was inspired by his reading of the book of Ezekiel where it speaks of the Blue Shekinah Light which represented the presence of the Almighty God and the Books of Isaiah and Revelation where it speaks of a bright future of a brotherhood of mankind living in peace and harmony."
Thank you for the info, appreciate it.
Beautiful words. I named my cat, crystal
I just saw Tommy James in person last week in a small theatre-in-the-round in Phoenix, and he still sounds exactly like the record in person. The place was jammed full, and when he did “Hanky Panky,” (His 1st big hit), the roof almost came off. Everyone was up dancing. If you ever get a chance to see him in person, go! He’s had so many big hits…and now they’re making a movie about his life, because they found out after signing with their record label that they were run by the New York mob. They had to beg for their $ sometimes. Lost out on MILLIONS! So glad you young people found out about him.
It is a shoulder swaying song. Laying out in a pool on a airmatress. Sun beating down cool summer breeze . Eyes closed and just floating to the tunes.
Can't wait,.....lol 😉
"Suite Judy Blues Eyes" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young is a good one.
Totally agree, as long as it's the studio version. I saw someone react to a live version and it just wasn't happening.
Foxes and Fossils do a Phenomenal Cover of S.J.B.E. You will not be Disappointed!!
@@magneto7930 A few people told me that the studio versions get blocked more than the live versions. I’m not sure how true that is but that’s what I’ve heard.
@@Cynthia... you are definitely correct about that, especially with a lengthy song like that one. It all depends on who is a blocker. The Beatles and the Eagles are two that are tough to upload.
If it's going to include Young, it'll have to be a live version. The studio version is CSN only.
Mrs. Rob, you are the most luckiest woman in the world. I’ve never seen a father so in love with his children.
You nailed it! I said time and time again, I wish the people now could experience the 70's for who and what we were. There was now color, no privilege, no entitlement, we were just people, people of peace and love. We had the coolest cloths, the best muscle cars, and the greatest music. We were the 70's!
This song is for when you are floating in a pool and watching the clouds without a care.
That’s exactly how I like to spend my summer 🙋🏻♀️
While high on acid yes
Yup...been there done that 😁
My second favorite Tommy James song.My favorite is "Sweet Cherry Wine".Give it a listen, I think Amber would definitely like it.It's got the whole hippy sound with the peace and love message.
In 1987, the singer Tiffany remade "I Think We're Alone Now" to number 1 on the Billboard charts. It was replaced at number 1 by another Tommy James remake, "Mony Mony", by Billy Idol. Never happened before, and has never happened again. On a side note, I dated Tommy James' niece while I was in college. Never met him though.
Every time I hear this song, I'm taken back to where I grew up in upstate N.Y. in the late "60's. I was 9 or 10 and driving through the countryside in spring and summer vacations in the family car... Man, what a time AND place to be young. The countryside of New York is truly "Heaven on Earth."
this was the late 60's vibe all over-unfortunately it didn't last. These guys were great and nice reaction.
Let’s hope for a new era similar shall we ? It was rather chaos too back then and I’ll not give up on the young .
The fact these two and others are finding it ? All we need to know . ☮️
Tommy James & The Shondells originated in Niles, MI. I lived in the neighborhood next to where they would practice. As an 11 year old riding my bike by as they worked these out!! They are special for all the good music but sends me back every time!! Peace & Love to you and the Family!!
Whoaaa.....I didn't know that they were from Michigan. I grew up in Flint, home of Grand Funk. Many great musicians from back home!!!
Tommy James was interviewed about the meaning of this song. He went through a spiritual awakening prior to recording this song and album.
Tommy's bio is a good read. It's a great window into the mobbed-up record business during the sixties and seventies.
This song brings back memories of the beach when I was young. They always played it back in the day.
A definite 60's classic to sit back and have good vibes and thoughts for at least 4 minutes, album version.
Tommy James has said several times in interviews he would watch and listen to Rev. Billy Graham from his hotel room television who used to say “You can see it Crystal Clear” describing the love of Christ and so on. The title comes from that.
I was a teenager when this song was popular and I have to say, Amber absolutely nailed the vibe. Not sure how it's possible, but she comes across as a flower child of the 60s. If you want more songs of the 60's summer, listen to Groovin' by the Young Rascals.
An absolutely beautiful song with lyrics that stand the test of time… Thank you for reacting
Most younger people remember this song from Breaking Bad, but I still remember it when I was a kid in the 60's. Surprised they never watched BB, lot's of great music in that show.
Tommy James is often overlooked when the greats of that era are mentioned--however, he and his group did some of the most memorable songs in pop/rock history.
Being born in the early 60s this song came out after Vietnam & the Riots the world was going crazy back then but if you look up a blue Crystal? It stands for Patience, Forgiveness,
Compassion,
Sincerity, & Trust. I still enjoy this song as of today ! But remember our bodies respond to different Frequencies & this is a calm one! Thank you for playing this song! I really enjoy younger people listening to older music. Thanks.
Beautiful song! A very different world then. Everyone was about peace and love to one another. You guys are the best!
This is a laidback summertime tune carefully crafted to create maximum relaxation!Wow!
crystal blue...the pure light of the creator that will illuminate us all and lead us to peace, love and brotherhood
I just read this comment by Robert Moga on one of their performance videos that provides a great background story about the group: "This is a great group! There story is seldom told but T. James was originally in a local Niles MI band called The Shondells. And all members were high schoolers in there teens. This was 1963! They had one VERY local hit on the VERY small, local, independent "SNAP" record label. By '65 the group had graduated and was history. A couple guys got married after high school & began families. Another got drafted & sent to Vietnam. James alone was left, single, and working on his families farm.
SOMEHOW, a single copy of the SNAP recording found it's way into the used record bin of a Pittsburgh, PA record store where it was purchased by a local DJ who hosted a local radio show called something like "rate the "B" side". His show ran late at night, like 12 am to 6 am so he was trying to build/entertain his audience. To do this he shopped the used record bins of area record stores buying anything he hadn't heard of.
The Shondells original SNAP records version was in fact the "B" side of the record! The "A" side was an original instramental by the band titled "Thunderbolt". The "B" side (Hanky Panky") was reworked by the group. It was originally a "B" side for the Raindrops hit "That Boy John" released in '63.
Once it began to get airplay in Pittsburgh requests for the song to be played again lit up the phone lines. The song was put into HEAVY rotation on the station and got even more requests.
Problem was that the radio station had the ONLY copy. Listeners demanded to know where they could buy it. So the radio contracted with a local record company named "FOX" (aka RED FOX as the orig labels were yellow & red with a fox at the top) to press 5000 copies of the record. This was technically illegal as they had no rights to the song. After the 5000 copies sold out in a single day the record company switched the record label to imitate the original "SNAP" label, but put their name in small print at the bottom of that label (the original "SNAP" labels have no reference to FOX RECORDS printed on them).
In Pittsburgh the record began an astonishing climb up the local charts & was picked up for play on other local stations.
Some proceeds from the "illegal" sales were set aside for the "unknown group" and a search was begun to find them. As SNAP was, on the label, credited to a Niles, MI company, the search began there. But SNAP had gone out of business! The former owner was tracked down & he related that the groups leader, Tommy James, had lived on his fathers farm just outside the city. A visit to the farm found Tommy James working the fields at his fathers farm!
After a discussion with Tommy and his father, Tommy was wisked back to Pittsburgh were he was told he had a hit record .With no orig members of The Shondells besides Tommy available Tommy was, over the next several days, taken to several local bars where he heard several local groups perform HIS song. After hearing several groups Tommy decided that the local group The Raconteurs did the best job (musically) and offered them the job of becoming The (New) Shondells. The group accepted & James fronted the new (performing as The Shondells) band at several local venues over the next several days.
James then left for New York City to shop his song (& group) to New York record labels. Roulette records was the most interested and signed James & the group and released "Hanky Panky" nationally. The rest is history! And by the way, the gentleman who bought that obscure 45 was named Bob Mack!"
I love this song.
I'm in it. From my time. You don't need drugs when you have music like that to take to you to that higher place.
We saw Tommy James at an oldies concert in Bost.about 30 years ago. They sang all their hits and it was awesome great night. They sang "Mony Mony" twice that night and the second time Tommy James was incredible. He left the stage and went to side of the stage where quite a few fans with disabilities were located and for about 5 minutes he walked among the wheelchairs card shook hands and hugged fans. It was an incredible sight , kudos to Tommy James for that. While he was off stage the band kept the song going until he returned to the stage.
I love it when today's young people discover the great music we grew up with in the 60's and 70's. Jay in case you're missing the signal, Amber wants to dance.
The term "crystal blue" makes me think of sunlight on the water. The beginning of the song is about a sunrise. I think they're hoping the rising sun will persuade the people of the world to bring in an age of peace and good and brotherhood. Sadly their vision didn't come true. Maybe someday.
Sweet Cherry Wine, Ball of Fire, and of course, Crimson and Clover!
Rock history 101, another piece of the puzzle. Another foundation group of the 60's that rock was built upon.
Hi Amber & Jay.... 72 year old follower here and I'm SO glad that you've discovered "my generation's music". Enjoy and explore.
Loved the 60s. Hard lessons were being learned. Everything was heading in the right direction. Minds were changing. The world was changing. Make Love Not War, Free Love, Peace Love and Understanding, What The World Needs Now Is Love Sweet Love. Speaking of please react to *What the World Needs Now*
by Jackie DeShannon
It's actually a Religious Song: "Maybe Tomorrow When He Looks Down.".
This is my all time favorite song of all time. It came out when I was a senior in high school 1970. The best.
I’m so excited to watch this! Tommy J & the Shondells are next level at everything they do!
Such a beautiful song. I'm glad you already listened to Draggin' The Line...that's my favorite!! The 60's & 70's genres are unlike no other.
Great bass line.
Great song. I was 8 when it came out.
The song’s title, “Crystal Blue Persuasion,” is a metaphor for the feeling of transcendence and ecstasy that people experience when they find themselves in a state of spiritual awareness
I remember hearing this song announced on the radio the day it was released in the US. It was in June of 1969 and I was eight and a half years old. I still remembered it to this day.
I have known Tommy since I was a child, as he and my mom grew up as friends. I’ve had a number of conversations with him about this song in particular, since it’s my favorite. I just saw him about 5 months ago in Phoenix and he’s still rockin! Powerful song!!!!
When I was a high school senior this was the theme of our prom. Yeah, I am that old and loving all you younger generations discovering how incredible the songs of a bygone era are. No auto tune or computerized mixing, just pure talent. Thanks for making me smile with fond memories. Commentary on life, imagine dancing to this song at a prom with this theme, then later being shipped off to Việt Nam.
Boy did I love my childhood, think back and smile.
If I remember the story correctly, Tommy James was on the road and staying in a hotel room. In the hotel room there was a Bible, and he casually opened it and started reading. At some point in that hotel room, he experienced a spiritual revelation and wrote this song. There are several interviews of Tommy James on UA-cam, and I'm sure he tells the story in more than one of them. For me, this is the very best song of a great band.
So much of the music back then made us feel hopeful and positive for the future along with being inspirational.
Born in 68 and grew up to all of the best music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. We will never have that again.
Hi you guys ! I thought amber would like this song..Tommy james and the shondells sang a number of hits like "Draggin the line","crimson and clover",mony mony"sweet cherry wine" This was part of the hippy 60's defined..great memories of a simpler time
I was born in 1962 and so wish I could get back in the car on a summer day with my parents and drive through the country with these songs playing! Times were good!
Great song, one of my favorite Tommy James songs. Another one of my favorites is Sweet Cherry Wine. The song that brings back memories of my first girlfriend is I Think We're Alone Now
FINALLY! One of my favorites of all time! The music and the message can’t be beat. 💖💖💖 And so emblematic of the 1960s. I knew this song was your vibe. Next, you should listen to Crimson and Clover.
So glad we had our music and how it brings comfort just listening to it. Ahhh, the 60's. 👍
I try to start every day by listening to this song. It just centers me and makes me happy.
This song reminds me of when I was in Bootcamp in the Navy in 1987. It came on the radio while I was on watch one night. Then all of a sudden I started balling my eyes out missing home. I was homesick. That is this song..
How much do I love this family? I will listen to this damn song to see them.
Lyrics are better than I remember
Amber should have been born in my generation's timeline. 60/70/80's were an absolute tidal wave of awesome music. 💯
Great song, wonderful memories! Such a popular song in the 60’s.
James and the Shondells “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” is a beautiful song.
This was #1 hit when I was in high school. Tommy James had one hit right after another.
Absolutely beautiful. A time of peace and love. Everyone accepted one another.
Give peace a chance again.
Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤❤ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I remember when this first came out. Peace and love was what it was all about.
Tommy James and the Shondells are a one hit wonder in the UK and that one hit "Mony Mony" was number one when I was born in July 1968 😊 much love from England 🏴
I listened to them as a kid in the 60s, fast forward too late 1970s, saw them in a bar Tonawanda New York, he was promoting a new album and playing it along with the old stuff. The crowd kept calling for all the old stuff, and he humbly obliged. A total class Act. Had a couple drinks at the bar with him also.
OMG, this was such a beautiful song and brings me back to my teens. This was one of my favs. 😍
Yes. What the world 🌎 needs now, is peace, love & understanding! Never a truer word spoken. Beautiful song/reaction guys. Thank you for playing it. ❤🎼💙
This played my senior year in high school. It has been my number 1 favorite all my life.
One of my favorites of that decade. The 60's and 70's were awesome to grow in.❤
Same sentiment of peace and love would be Jackie DeShannon's "What the World Needs Now is Love" From the mid 60's also.
love this beautiful song!
I was one of those hippies back in the sixties. To this day i still preach peace, love and everyone to get along with one another. But these days and age is all about themselves . Wish i could go back to that time. The way the world is going now, there's no hope for our country or world.😟
Driving in the summer, windows down, maybe a convertible...oh yeah love those days.
