What a lovely bloke that Zaf is, a real credit to the Brummies
'How do orders come in? On little slips of paper?' ....'We're not that advanced yet' lol!
Nothing better than 'an old skool' slip. Proper balti Hun! Nice to wash your hands Al. I always make sure I do before using the khazi, especially as I ask for a side of green chillies and lemon( nice natural high and vitamin c lol!)
Travelled 12,000 miles from Australia to my hometown of brum in june and hit shababs up, sat right behind where they were sitting. Yeah different level of balti, proper old school, got 2 shababs balti bowls and I swear my own baltis are a different level since.
I am an Expat from originally from Birmingham Shababs is the only place to get a proper original authentic Balti.. When I visit home this the place I have to head for... Every Balti lover should take the time to just go try this place trust me whether its 10 miles or in my case 4000 miles it's worth it... I speak from the Heart... Great job Zaf and his team
Brilliant curry house shababs. Zaf is a brilliant balti chef. Well done al on the hairy bikers balti. Zaf looks a real gentleman 👏
Another great video Al - and the fact they have allowed you in to their kitchen shows the respect they have for you. Hope your planning something special for your 100k subs.👏👏👏
Great video! What a lovely guy Zaf is. Happy New Year guys!
Nice video! Thanks for sharing your visit to Shabab's.
Thank you Al and Shababs, really enjoyed that. I’m defo going to Shababs to try it for myself.
Please do!
As a student I used to really enjoy going there. The taste of the balti was outstanding and I've enjoyed many balti since but none have touched the memories of those days with the table sized nans. Well done for a great video.
What a cool guy that chef
Loved this. Thanks for the insight.
Missed you for a month Al ❤️
Absolutely brilliant! That Table Naan was Mahoooooosiveeeeee! 👌🏼X
Loved the vid Al , Shababs looks amazing deffo check it out,
Well done Saif that guy know what he’s doing 👍🏻
As a student in Brum late 90's a chicken balti and table naan was a rights of passage.
The morning after 😁
Great Video informative throughout, can't beat a Balti, it looked amazing. I'm going to get a burner for outside soon (after winter) Thanks for posting love the series on Birmingham Balti's
Wow amazing experience cooking with a balti legend , AL needs to carry on the balti series there are quite a few different types of balti`s , I’ve done prawn , keema , chick peas , mushroom , come AL great series , when series. 2 😎😎😎😎👍👍👍👍👍👍

Welcome back BIG AL
I have just transcribed this so that I can do three different Balti's Tuesday night. I only have one burner at the moment but ordered a second one. That'll make it easier.... Great Video Al.
Love this video Al - I'll have to check out Shababs the next time I'm in Birmingham. Nothing beats a good Balti!
Yeah, I am sure you will like it
Excellent video. Keep up the good work, Al. 👍
Thanks 👍
Really enjoyed that thnx
I'd be so tempted to "grab" the "handle". Can imagine the smokiness them flames add to the flavour. This is my next one to try 😋
Awesome Al, bet you had fun with those flames, nice fuzz free hands now 😱. Hope you had a great day there
Shababs looks very nice. i think many people will enjoy his restaurant
Great video!!
Thanks!
Very jealous Al!!! Cooking IN a resturant!!! Well done!
Class video Al. Really want to get over to brum at some point and say hello to Zaf and his team.
Yes looking forward to this✌
Really enjoyed that Al it was really interesting listening to Zaf what a top bloke oh and I'll get myself one of those balti dishes and have a go myself I did notice he didn't seem to put as much spices in as you do at home is that right?
One of my all time favourite curry houses. Always go when I’m in Birmingham 😊
brilliant love it
Excellent video as always! Would love to see collaborate with Latif's Inspired. Amazing work Al, thank you :)
Al great video as always, Please could you do a video on kitchen ingredient essentials? Things we need in the kitchen to create these amazing meals? Kind regards
Matt
Hi Al I’m glad you could make it to our promised land of Brum...keep producing these fantastic video experiences. You will soon hit the magic 100k and it is well deserved.
Ps where did you get the hair procedure if you don’t mind me asking? Really is taking now
ANOTHER great video AL, and nice to be able to put a face to Nigel from Spicy Joes. Any particular reason you used Ghee when cooking your Balti on the video? I’ve only ever seen Zaf using vegetable oil when cooking. I’ve already cooked this Balti dish numerous times and it is fantastic.
Another great video, I have to agree, the food is good at Shababs, I will have rice with my balti though and a small naan.
Yeah enjoyed myself there
Going to need to make a visit to Shababs 👍
Hey Al how lucky to be in chef Zaffs kitchen, what a lovely bloke ❤️ that’s the biggest naan We’ve ever seen 😱
Great video
Family size naan breads have been around for a couple of decades at least. The only place I've seen them was in Birmingham and the Akbars in Leeds, although I think that closed a few years back.
Opens yr eyes dow it Al 👍 we had table naans like that back in the 80,s. In brum, Good vid 🥃🥃
The big nan bread ,they do in the Syhiba Sowerby Bridge ,we calk it the Elephants Ear.
All ready made it and pop it in the group 🤪
You make some mess with sauce everywhere 😂
Great video mate
Come on are you talking about Steve's big spoon lol
Yep lol
That was unbelievably good, and what a true gent Mr Hussain is, nice to hear our local accent lol cheers Al cant wait for your 30 min Korma for the wife 😜
great vid
I know what restaurant I’m visiting on my next trip to Birmingham
Wouldn't want to zee Zafs gas bill these days lol
That looks amazing Al 👍
It was amazing
Brilliant video Al! That must have been a great experience! I wish I had my own tandor it just looks so satisfying. 😂 I am making some peshwari naans tomorrow. I think I've finally got them going good now. 👌🏻I seasoned my new Birmingham balti bowl today too so tomorrow is going to be a fun day! 😀 🔥
Glad you enjoyed it
Once you've been Shababs nothing else matches up. Secret Michelin star at working mans prices. Honestly i love it
does the garlic not burn
Best curry house in brum , all the lads are nice Z, Hamzad and zaf it’s a really nice bloke and he knows how to cook 👏🏻🙌🏻🤩
That size of nan bread I’ve had before in Elgin in Scotland , they tend to call them , “elephant ears” as you well imagine by the size of them, I find them more tasty if made with brown chapatti flour.
Why did he add the corriander powder and Fenugreek towards the end of the dish ? Thanks
Just ordered 2 balti dishes and a chef jacket.
Food there is amazing
Love your food Al....your Chicken Tikka Masala is a Massive favourite 😍!!!!! Best Curry I've ever made 😋
Yeah I agree, I'm making that again tomorrow.
@@Tom-pd7cv my friends pay me for it!! 😆
Right hand!
Left hand and I'd be worried
Nice one Al 👍
Thanks 👍
Brilliant vid Al. I was laughing watching you making the Naan. "No matter how much I play with it, it won't get bigger' (or similar) Carry On Curry! Nice looking curry & naan.
ps - I knew those pinches were more like a 1/4 tsp than a 1/16.
Happy New Year buddy!
Glad you enjoyed it lol
I love Shababs, but I miss Adhils soooo much :(
Fascinating. There were several leaders that you missed Al. Never mind
?
Your nann looked awesome😍
Crazy ain’t it ,
as I love cooking your curries Al & tasting them, but I still prefer to go to a good curry shop for a good old ruby Murray yummy
Would love to get some recipes off that guy Al
Have a search on here, he has loads. I learn't BIR during lockdown one from Al's vids, very informative always, accurate recipes too.
@@ianthomas1060 thanks for this but I don't mean Al,s videos as I have seen loads of them. I meant the guy from Shababs
nice , now best you get a bigger pipe fitted to your cooker lol
why type the idiot "lol"???
I would have expected that to burn with the length of time it was on the stove without stirring
Im from Birmingham and i haven't even been there just yet
He used veg oil and you used ghee for cooking. That's why your curry was sweeter and didn't flame as much while cooking. Can't have Al taking the limelight now can he haha
I first tried the Shabab, as it was called then, back in the late 80's, when it was run by Zaff's brother, Matloob. A Pakistani friend of mine introduced me to the place, telling me I would not find the same taste and quality of flavour anywhere else. He was right. The restaurant was only a third of the size then, but I spent most of my weekends eating superb tasting baltis.
Yes you are quite right, Matloob is the one who started up in 1987 when he was 24 years old! Matloob has just turned 60 in December! 😂
@@shababsbaltibirmingham1384 now I feel old 😂😂
Im on me way to Birmingham 👍👍👍
Enjoy
Cracking video Al, Hey an idea bro, How about getting together with Latif from Latif`s Inspired in Stoke, That would be amazing, Keep er lit my friend.
Yeah, ask him. Thx
This would be awesome 👍
I wonder how common it is to not be fussed for your own cooking. I’m one of those too.
Was there much difference in your home cooked version to the real deal Al?
None tbh
Can anyone tell me the size dish i need. Also i have a woke burner, would that get the flames going?
A real BIR Indian restaurant, simple but tasty, nothing special.
I love Shababs but dam do I miss Adils!!! 😪😪😪
I love Al but wish he was a bit more enthusiastic
By the way, does anyone know the difference between a "balti" curry and a 'normal' curry? Every time you eat in an 'Indian' restaurant ask them and see how you get different answers 🤣
Have a look at UA-cam video filmed when the Hairy Bikers visited Shababs, and Zaf does a good job explaining the difference between a Birmingham Balti , “The Real Deal” as he calls it, and how other Indian restaurants try to pass off curry as Balti by presenting them in a small shiny bowl.
It's the bowl, the curry is cooked and served in the balti dish that was made in Birmingham.
It's not an indian restaurant
I've had proper Indian food OMG it's so so much better then Pakistani or Bangladeshi
sorted Al i was going to give it a big thumbs down i was so jelous of your experience i bet the food was just amazing great camera work loved it
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it
Shebab's currys are great. But the naans are terrible! They use a commercial dough mix. I've tasted the exact same dough in other places. I wish they would make their own and put plenty of ghee on them when they are served
I think the level of prep is too onerous if they are doing 500 dishes a day . Many Indian restaurants use a ready mix these days .
