Little chef oh how I miss you. I fondly remember halfway through a road trip to the Lake District going in one with the parents back in 2009. Those red chairs were so iconic.
Ive been visiting family in the UK my whole life and I lived there for a year at one point, but I've never been at Little Chef. Still, the combo of that beautiful diner full with Two Door Cinema Club on the background managed to invoke immense nostalgia for something I relate to but never experienced. Magnificent work.
The waitress at a Little Chef accidentally bonked my brother over the head with a hot bowl of onion rings when we were kids. Thing is, we had gone out to eat to cheer him up because he'd been attacked by a stray cay the same day. He was, like, 5. It's the only thing I remember about Little Chef!
God damn, the "last time I was felling true joy," part hit deep. I have such fond memories of Little Chef, as a child travelling there in the back of my dads Omega or any of his other cars. The lollies you could get afterwards, plus the Robot Wars mini toys.
Used to work at one for 5 years after i left school until i was set into Uni. Olympic Breakfast was number 9 on the menu and was definitely the best thing on the menu.
I'll add to the memory. The little square lollipops they had. I still remember them, and I'm not even in the UK any more. God. This hit me hard. Good video.
The missus worked at little chef way back when and says the only bit you got wrong was the smoked bacon - Little Chef bacon was never smoked! She also said the rest was spot on 👌
This isn’t a British take on American food though. This is literally a full English breakfast. Only the style of the restaurant was inspired by American diners.
I miss Little Chef soooo much!! Every time I’d visit my family in Wales (I live there now) with my grandparents, we’d ALWAYS stop off at Little Chef on the way back home on the M4 and I’d get Ham, egg and chips or a burger every time and never forget to pick up my free lolly pop and balloon on my way out. I also loved colouring in and doing the puzzles on the kids menu. Little chef was a massive part of my childhood and I’ll forever miss it.
A Little Chef breakfast was the first thing I ate when I moved here. They weren’t that nice but they did introduce me to the hangover joy that is the full English.
As an American who traveled a lot it pleases me greatly to see such a tradition as the roadside diner be appreciated across the pond. I'd like to think if I was raised British I would enjoy a full English breakfast. Unfortunately those beans are hard to work around in my southern Louisiana brain. Your Olympian Breakfast is like our Astronaut Breakfast. We use more eggs. It's everything a growing boy needs.
As a Brit, I really appreciate the US! Very diverse place, and sooo crazy large, the fact Texas is three times the size of the UK I believe is wild! Funnily enough, I don't like beans myself 😂
I was devastated when little chef closed down not because of the food, it was what you’d expect nothing mind blowing, but rather the fond memories being with my grandmother as a kid.
Damn. This reminds me of the stops my family would take in Wales just after coming off the Ferry. We'd then drive from Pembroke to Arundel to visit family and then trundle back to Pembroke for the Ferry to Rosslare. Both ways we stopped at Little Chef in Wales hehe.
Man I remember every Friday my dad picked me and my brother up for the weekend, we would stop at the little chef on the way home and get 2 Olympic breakfasts each and a dessert. Fond memories of the little chef :)
I had grandparents I used to see in the summer 200 miles from where I lived and every year my parents would stop at either Little Chef or Happy Eater on the way. Fond memories!
As someone who spent a lot of time on the road as a kid going to see family members literally every weekend, I used to love Little Chef, they used to do these little Eddie Stobart toys with audiobooks which were class 😂
I used to go to a Little Chef restaurant when I was a kid. Not the same one mentioned in the video, but an independent restaurant in America that bears the same name. My mom used to take me out of school on my birthday, and take me there to get Belgian waffles. Completely unrelated, but I haven’t heard that name in years, and this video made me remember those birthdays fondly.

When he brought it up I thought he was talking about Big Cook Little Cook lmao Strange
Listening to Two Door Cinema Club and seeing service station food is strangely nostalgic.
