Before you do all that you might want to consider getting your sod supplier up to your property to let him see what the sod he supplied looks like with all the yellow sttipes. See if he can determine what caused those yellow stripes and see if you two agree. Then discuss with him what HE is going to do to replace HIS shoddy sod including HIS labor to remove the crappy sod and HIM installing the replacement good sod without the stripes. If he does not install the sod then HE can pay to have it professionally installed and for the crappy sod to be hauled away. Yes, John, you will lose the two weeks of TLC that you have put in to the crappy sod, but it's still early and there's enough time to recover and have a good looking yard there. Wow. This sod looks "better and better " with every video you show of it.... non-uniform cuts through the soil will do this. Dear Lord. Makes me rethink getting sod for any of my lawn... Sorry you are going through this ordeal 😤🤬
I personally would let everyone know where this sod came from. I definitely think that the sod farm that grew and harvested this product should be made aware that they sold you a product that was subpar. I certainly would hope that they would at least try to refund some of your money for this garbage that they sold you.
What a pisser JP. What is the sod farm doing to make it right. My guess is nothing. Will at least we can watch more videos from you. Best of luck brother.
Sorry man. That’s frustrating. I don’t practice sod law, but if I did, I would represent you against the sod company, and start a sod law blog. Part of me wants to see you borrow Connor’s greens roller and just go to down on the shingle pattern.
That explains a lot. Could you supersaturate the soil and roll it out and deal with any compaction issues later without creating more soil layers? I see a lot of people mixing soil porosity doing leveling jobs and what I think they fail to realize is the way that affects water movement within the soil. There is an interesting video on UA-cam titled "Water Movement in Soils" from experiments in 1959 by Dr. Gardner at Washington State University. It shows how adhesive and cohesive forces affect water movement in and through soils especially when the soil porosity is layered. It often behaves different than one would think but at times can be used to manipulate a soils behavior like increasing sand water holding capacity in golf green by having a coarser layer of gravel 18" below the sand layer in which the grass grows. But apparently it's tricky to create right and a lot of USGA greens have been messed up by layering differing porosity of top dressings and also poorly designed gravel layers below the greens. Turfgrass Zealot, whose an agronomist, has a nice commentary on that video on his channel too. I have just a basic understanding of soil dynamics. But possibly if you use sand to level up to the clay soil of the sod and create areas where sand is exposed to the atmospheric pressure, the irrigation will flow off the sod clay soil and pool in the sand areas...the water will then flow more rapidly and deeper in those areas and create uneven wetting of the soil profile...just a thought. It's similar in principle to core aeration and backfilling with sand which is intended to increase water penetration and uniform wetting but in your situation, as I envision it, the sand areas will not be uniform channels but will exist where the thinner areas of sod was cut.
This is great and you nailed it. Sand is used because it’s easy. I like topsoil for leveling myself. I did one sand job on my own mixed with topsoil and the turf never grew the same there. Sand drains way faster so there is pooling at the clay level (I have clay loam). It also gets really hot and limits growth as it can’t hold moisture. I’m going to roll this first and see if I can press it before anything. I have a lot of soil under this turf and I can get it damp pretty deep. I think I can get it.
Holy crap John!!! What BS. I'd be livid. How about a heavy D-Thatch app and get some digestion time to eat away at some of the organic that came in the sod then soak the lawn and roll like crazy. Try to squish that uneven layer out more flat and even?
I'm betting that Sod came from the farm by The west side of the point of the mountain, Heavy Metals. I would think a dose of Citric Acid might be a careful move. Or did you go cheep and spread some Milo down.
I hope you're asking your card company to issue a charge back on that sod. I could cut sod out of my back yard with an edger and shovel better than that
Why didn't you reject the sod and take it back for poor quality. As much work as you put in to prepping for the sod I'm surprised ur accepted what they gave you. I would tear all the sod back up and drop it in the parking lot of the grower
Unless it’s DOA, it’s gonna grow. Yes they could do better. Yes I could raise hell. I’m the end though, how about I just show that it’s not the end of the world and perfection in and of itself is flawed?

@@Lawncology you do have a army that has your back just need marching orders just saying 💯
Good detective work. Before you revealed, I was guessing the sod was cut uneven.
You just need to get some Lawncology interns who want to shovel sand for a day.
Lol. I’m happy to do the work, just bummed it happened.
I'm no intern but that sounds like fun to me.
@@michaellewis6569 it’s lots of fun until the third wheel barrow. At least in Texas!
@@thedrewwitt it's the smoke right now that has me staying inside in Utah. Maybe it is more clear on his side of the mountain, and so high up. Not sure.
@@michaellewis6569 it’s so heart breaking
Wow. I saw that, but didn't know how bad it was. Crappy sod.
That sucks! No quality control at that sod company.
Pretty crappy
I would be sending the bill to the sod farm you purchased the turf from. That’s unsat. You shouldn’t have to pay for product to repair the turf.
I love how worked up everyone is about it 😂
Wow. This sod looks "better and better " with every video you show of it.... non-uniform cuts through the soil will do this. Dear Lord. Makes me rethink getting sod for any of my lawn... Sorry you are going through this ordeal 😤🤬
Oh it’s great. I love the ability to solve the problem
Hey. At least you found a solution to the problem.
I personally would let everyone know where this sod came from. I definitely think that the sod farm that grew and harvested this product should be made aware that they sold you a product that was subpar. I certainly would hope that they would at least try to refund some of your money for this garbage that they sold you.
I’ve had discussion with others who’ve used them and some that WERE going to.
Hey if you can’t beat them, join them in the adventures of leveling 😂
Right?
That makes sense, but when you got the sod it decided and said nah JP I'm a make you do what you said your not going to do leveling. Lmao.
I’m gonna have to do something, but for now- it’s go time
What a pisser JP. What is the sod farm doing to make it right. My guess is nothing. Will at least we can watch more videos from you. Best of luck brother.
Nothing is the correct answer. “Be happy you got any in today’s world.”
Sorry man. That’s frustrating. I don’t practice sod law, but if I did, I would represent you against the sod company, and start a sod law blog.
Part of me wants to see you borrow Connor’s greens roller and just go to down on the shingle pattern.
Just absolutely steam roll er’ and deal with compaction later.
Haha. Maybe I’ll bring the roller up
I love your music
I like the way you think. There’s a video already loaded that will premier tomorrow you’ll enjoy.
@@Lawncology Great minds think alike!
Can you Complain or seek a Discount from the Sod Supplier?
As a "Professional Landscaper" this would have Peeved Me...
Lawn still looks beautiful! 👍
It’s only going to get better 😁
Rip it up and get another load of sod that's properly cut.
Lol: it’s good. You’ll
Never know
I'm betting that Sod came from the farm by The west side of the point of the mountain, Heavy Metals. I would think a dose of Citric Acid might be a careful move. Or did you go cheep and spread some Milo down.
You’re are likely right where it come from. I’m going to be doing some experimenting with some material regarding pH

🤬🤬
I'd make them come back out and redo it
But I did it
I'd be F-ing pissed too no joke justified!!!
I hope you're asking your card company to issue a charge back on that sod. I could cut sod out of my back yard with an edger and shovel better than that
Nah. Why not have a real
World experience and fix it?
Should of called Doc and used superjuice and it would of looked like a fairway overnight. 😜
😂😂😂
I so fuc”@&$% get what you mean about the coc$@“$/;”$!”# sod. But it is looking better my man. You got this…
😂😂
Why didn't you reject the sod and take it back for poor quality. As much work as you put in to prepping for the sod I'm surprised ur accepted what they gave you. I would tear all the sod back up and drop it in the parking lot of the grower
Unless it’s DOA, it’s gonna grow. Yes they could do better. Yes I could raise hell. I’m the end though, how about I just show that it’s not the end of the world and perfection in and of itself is flawed?
@@Lawncology I would just hate to have to do all that leveling when I made it a point to take the steps so that i didn't have to do that after the sod was installed ya know.
In the words of Jesus “shit happens” 😁
Have you reached out to the company you got the sod from? That sucks they sent you such an uneven salad bar. Don’t these people know what you do for a living?!?
I introduced myself and…. I’m insignificant
I’m sorry man. You put a lot of time, effort, and money into making sure it was done right the first time. It’s be frustrating fir the sod company giving you a substandard product to undermine all that work.
I’m hoping you arranged something with the folks you got the sod from. If not free, at least a significant discount. At this point it almost seems like it would have been easier to wait a few weeks and put down seed instead.
Have you called them yet?
“Do you know who I am? I’m John Effing Perry! Do you know how much influence I have on the UA-cam turf world?”
Lol. It’s not difference to them.
You are first
I would through that stuff in the trash
RIP it out and send it back. It's close to seeding season, you'll be better off.
It's content
Content for sure
Maybe let the new turf settle, grow, mow, and let mother nature level your lawn over time....... 3 years later......................Screw it, sand level that sucker and call it a day, lol.
