Well we have 250 foot of fence with 4x4s set into concrete last 24 years, until our hurricane took out much of it, not many fences overcome 100+ MPH gusts.
@@phubarnow5388 Mounting and corners should be revised to enable laying and locking them down. Then set back up after some cleanup. Everything should be designed for the worst weather conditions possible anywhere. Add to that, to limit damage in case a giant sink hole opens under your home. Great video. Will save a lot of people tons of money. Appreciate the attention to details, the whys, and constant little tips and tricks you wove into the video. Any reason you didn't use Trex or Azek along the top of the fence? It seems like that horizontal surface would be the most susceptible to warpage over time, but i also get that it might start to push the cost of the project upward. What was your approximate ballpark cost per horizontal ft of fencing (eg total cost of materials/total horizontal length of fence)? finally, loved the little bit of camera angle magic @ 7:35 min.
Love your videos and this fence idea! I read through the comments and didn't see this mentioned yet. I just wanted to mention that i noticed the overlap on the steel panels is backwards (not that it matters on this fence). The side of the panel that has the tiny flange should lay flat, and the other end that looks half finished lays on top of that. As you work down from where you started, this flanged end gives rigidity and strength for the half finished end. When the half finished end overlaps, it pushes tightly against the ridge it covers, creating a seamless look.
I live in SW Missouri. You can easily dig down at least 1/4" without hitting a rock. In some places as deep as 1/2". I helped a friend build a privacy fence back in the mid-90's and never again. It was brutal work.

This nice family must have rescued him when he got away from the diabolical organization fixing to exploit him for his talents. Thank you family for caring for him....I want him back.😉
Thank you for helping your sister! You had me laughing so hard! I enjoy watching your videos, in part, because your behaviors remind me of one of my brothers that I lost a couple years ago. He picked on me a lot when we were young, and our older brother, who passed a couple years before him, was always in the middle defending me. About a year before he passed he was very sorry for the way he treated me and apologized. I told him there was no apology necessary but I accepted it. I barely remember those incidents but I do remember working on his car with him sometimes, helping him partially finish the basement, helping him put in a drop ceiling in the dining room and motorcycle rides. Blessings of love and light to all!
I've always thought using corrugated or roof panels wood make a practically life long fence with steel post and stained horizontal. Glad to see someone do so. Unfortunately those steel post's are Dmed expensive, but they are easy and they work. This summer I rebuilt an RV gate, 14ft wide using stained (weather treatment for longevity) and the red plastic(?) roofing from Home Depot. Looks great, it's 200 pounds liter than using redwood and has already survived 35 mph wind here in Cal. Also wrapped a small shed in the green stuff, blends right in with the trees.
Retired contractor/fence builder here. Built a fence years ago around my place, using concrete post designed and made by my father. For the obvious reason, never having to replace the post again. A year ago I drove past my old place, and was shocked to see that the new owner had not only rebuilt the fence, they replaced the concrete post with wooden post. What part of "You never have to do this again" don't they get?!!! Apparently Common Sense will not be tolerated!
Watching this video makes me realize why I would absolutely hire someone to do this work---too complicated for me! But it's a great idea! And I totally agree that burying wood posts in concrete is a great way to rot them out fast.
So happy to see you and the family made it through Helene 🙏 sorry the trees didn't 😮 hope Milton passed with no troubles . Enjoyed the video 👍👍 have fun with music 🎶
I NEED to do this at my house! Block road noise, privacy. Thank you! I will definitely be doing this. Going to build two or three of them along my property when tax season gets here I think! Thanks again!
That tropical storm before Helene took out 2 panels of my fence. Lots of rain afterward so was not able to repair before Helene came through and took out 2 more. Milton loosened some panels from the posts. Need to replace my entire fence and I like this look.
I put in round steel posts like you would use for a commercial fence and put up a wooden gate on Cattle panels, building a 6' x 12" gate. I used Hook straps and hung 2/4's and pickets right on the panels. Each panel was about $90. Big savings and has withstood some hefty winds.
Just a note: pull also a string line close to the top to set the intermedium studs, that way they'll be all perfectly lined up and you just need to set the level the other way on each one. Thanks for posting this great idea of fencing!
That style of fence post is the best. We replaced a section with our fence with them, absolutely fantastic and easy (with a post driver). Never installing wood posts again, can't wait to replace the rest.
@trailerparkcryptoking5213 they are called PostMaster posts by Master Halco. You can rent pounders at a lot of rental places but the posts require a special adapter to drive they most likely will not have. Many fence companies are driving posts so they may drive them for you.

I have a metal roof on house. Last year I put a new roof and used the old panels for a fence. Works great. Strong and private. I had to get a bobcat to dig the post holes. I used some galviizend poles. I used plastic 4 inch pipe at some spots. I filled them all with concrete, and it's solid.
Looks great! I'm in the middle of a cabin project and was considering doing a fence like this. Several people have told me it will look like crap. I think this proves them wrong. Love the video! 😁
@@HAXMAN Just shared the video with one of the "look like crap" guys. He changed his mind! Since the cabin has two-tone metal siding, the plan is to do the fence the same way, so it looks more like an extension of the cabin. Of course, that could change. Plans keep doing that! 🤣
HAXMAN, I love 80s synthwave music. I can't believe you have an album. I'd love to see a video about this. I'll be listening to it tomorrow at work. Also great fence. Wonder if you could do a shed like this.
Speaking of home depot. I had some bowed walls I was replacing drywall on and my thought was to grab some bowed 2x4s from the delivery I had received a few days ago and and sister them in with the bowed going the opposite way so it pulls the wall straight. But to my disappointment, they were all straight for once.
Thank you for saying that. We have clay soil and concrete footers in every post. I feel like builsers tell people concrete will prevent rotting, just to keep you constantly buying posts.
You, Haxmeister, are a better person than I.... because there's NO ONE in my family that I like enough to do...... ANYTHING for! There's definitely a place in Heaven reserved for you! I must say, the damage to your place was bad but it looks like you came through better than some areas here in NC! Glad you're ok but I hope you made it through Milton also!!! Take care, be safe and God bless!
You are a gift. I miss my brother so much who would do anything in the world for me, his sissy. Tell your sister what an absolute blessing it is to have her brother!❤
My father and I were in the security fencing game in the UK for 40 years, we don't use string lines, we eye in the posts, it is much quicker and when you are doing 1000 metre + lines at 3m centres the time saving is massive, you put in your start post and your end post and an intermediate if needed then eye in the positions for digging with an upright, you mark all your posts with an eye line to get the levels and as long as your start and finish posts are level you can eye in the positions by instructing whoever is holding the post to move away top or away bottom and then drop some semi dry concrete around the post. This method is used by all professional fence erectors in Britain and Europe.
I used to be in the fence business and i can say for sure. this is the niciest looking fence ive seen. Would love to see the final video of it once 100% complete. Nice work!

Pressure treated 4x4s in concrete installed over 20 years ago. All are/were still rock hard. I just removed 3/4s of them to expand the fence and switch to a steel fence instead of wood. But no, they are not guaranteed to rot in any reasonable time. I'd love to see you put those steel posts into the ground in my area, its called Rock Cliff for a reason. You can't even use a power auger for more than a foot,

Recently I got estimates from several fence contractors and one of them installs metal posts. He said fence posts he installed 20 years ago are still standing and he's never had to replace any. After seeing this video, I'm going with the steel posts. Thanks!
Wood posts I sunk 20 years ago are also standing. Marella is also not stronger
yeah 20 years ago metal was metal now its tin foil good luck with that
Well we have 250 foot of fence with 4x4s set into concrete last 24 years, until our hurricane took out much of it, not many fences overcome 100+ MPH gusts.
@@phubarnow5388 Mounting and corners should be revised to enable laying and locking them down. Then set back up after some cleanup. Everything should be designed for the worst weather conditions possible anywhere. Add to that, to limit damage in case a giant sink hole opens under your home. Unless you paid for a deep penetration scan with result that guarantee it won't happen.
I’m so jealous of everyone on UA-cam without a bazillion rocks in their land 😂! Looks great!

Wife and I just got our homestead and its on solid rock. Lol exhausting!!!
@@jplezon5014 the second you think “their might not be any rocks here” as your 2 feet deep, CLUNK!!! Haha
I live in SW Missouri. You can easily dig down at least 1/4" without hitting a rock. In some places as deep as 1/2". I helped a friend build a privacy fence back in the mid-90's and never again. It was brutal work.
@@timothyoldford6638 haha right! I trenched a water line 14inches deep and pulled out rocks bigger than my head. Had to buy dirt for backfill. Bright side, I have a lot of rock to build with!
@@NathanExplosion99 legend has it, you’re still digging those post holes!!! 🤣

Thank you very much
One of our neighbors has a privacy fence built from roofing panels similar to this. We live in the deep south and deal with tornadoes, thunderstorms, etc. Their fence is still standing strong. Great video
That’s because the installer did their job right. There are wooden privacy fences in my area that are as old as me (32) and still look new. Just like with any material, if you maintain it and do it right the first time, it stands for a long time. NC resident
Metal fence probably isn't much cheaper than regular fencing...😅
LOL ya it will stay up but will be so crooked and messed up after a year cause the ground shifts... are americans really this uneducated? No wonder america is falling apart
@@williamchaplick4227I don't know what those roof panels cost where he's at but where I am I could build a block wall for less than that fence lol.😂
Just a tip for the screw template: make little hooks on both ends. The top end is holding the template, the bottom (max 1 inch wide) is holding the sheet metal so you can work freely with two hands.
You gave me a great idea. Instead of the expensive plastic fencing, use this. I have an acre in Florida and your system saved my tons of money- Thank you. Subscribed!
Glad to see I'm not the only one that whispers sweet nothing's to mechanical tools!
😂
There are people that don't?!
I don't whisper to them, I just tell them that they will land in my husbands clutches. He is very good at scrapping everything out. They start out of shock. =)
And our vehicles... got to pet that dash regularly
That whole thing was a Riot. Who doesn't hate starting the damn things, or reading the directions. The echoing sound over the hills......roflmao Made my day after a very long hard one. Blessings for you and yours :))))))))
Hax...youe the best! (From a native Floridian of 70 years) you ARE definitely a blessing to all! ❤😊
Absolutely fantastic job I'm 70 years old hanging sheetrock for 50 years not in the fence business but I'll tell you what that was one of the greatest construction feats I've ever witnessed in my life thank you for posting
Thanks for calling out the potential for fence leaks. A very under reported concern.
I never liked wood fences. That medle fence looks 10 times better. Your sister is blessed to have you help her. Great job.

Dude is so charismatic. I don't need fencing, but he is hilarious, unpredictable, and entertaining. Love the music, the dancing squash...etc. I have to subscribe...I just have to.👍👍
Nice fence. What i envy the most are the lady's safety flip-flops! I am looking for this kind of heavy duty workwear since ages
Let the helper know she did an awesome job!
Your silliness makes me miss my dad. I am also VERY handy because of him, too. You're doin' great things 😊
You made it look both fun and easy. I, however, strongly suspect that when I endeavor to accomplish such fencing, it will be neither fun no easy! lol! Thank you!
As someone who did this and metal buildings and roofs, it doesn’t matter what you use as long as the fence is sturdy.
Dude, just came across this video and found it very entertaining and informative, thank you. But what I enjoyed seeing most, is the great relationship you have with your sister. I don't have any siblings and always wished I did. Congrats
I laughed at the visuals and the sound of you trying to start the post hole machine….until instructions were followed! Thanks! (For the laugh) 👏👍
Still, nothing beats an electric one...plug, switch on and go... no strings attached.. no gas smell or spill on you, no smoke... I used these ..but have literally switched all my tool to electric or battery. Loving life
Yup, great segment!
AGREED! It was really funny!
Yes, like you, I have always felt that reading the instructions for doing something is always a last resort procedure, something you do if all else fails. Love your humor, your instruction and your talent. Your family is lucky to have you around them.
I counted 35+ cord pulls. I am glad he read the instructions.
Hearing that your music is copyright free makes me want to reconsider starting up my youtube channel again. It costs a lot to run the channel when you dont have enough subs yet or views to get you to a monetized state. Having to pay for one less thing is super helpful and I'd even donate some money for helping me out because obviously you put work into it. Thank you!
This video popped up on my feed and I thought I would just browse through and I ended up watching the whole thing and loved the music too. 👍
Love your fence idea! It was a good chuckle when your post hole pounder would not start! It was “I hate when that happens“ moment 😅
I did the line movement thing you talked about and ended up giving my neighbor about two feet by the end of my property. So from 0 to 2ft in 450 feet. I had already dug and set all the posts by the time I realized so I just said to heck with it and congratulated him on the extra space. Oh well 🤷🏼♂️
Love the detail in the video instructions. It’s nice to be able to be an independent home owner capable of doing most of your own repairs and upgrades on a home. The only downside is all these expensive tools. That post digger is top notch awesome! I have lots of good friends and family, but no one has had anything like that for me to barrow. And I sure the heck can not afford the $2,900+ price tag on that thing. So little ol self is stuck digging holes and flopping in the wooden fence post now. Unless I can barrow your digger. 😂😂 Great video and you have my subscription. ❤
You are hilarious! 😂. I laughed so hard while you were trying to get that post pounder thingy going, plus the aerial views getting farther and farther away, but the noise getting louder and louder - so funny! Glad you finally got it going, and the fence looks great! Glad I discovered you on UA-cam. I think I’m in for a lot of fun entertainment, and hopefully a lot of knowledge as well.
Informative, entertaining and funny.
Thank you so much!!
I have to agree with you! That was hilarious! Also, him whispering to it. lol
Wrote same to scroll down and see you. Priceless right! I think I'll forward it to my Dad.

I showed up to watch a video about making a fence, unexpectedly got some awesome music. Great work.
Genuinely some of the best original and real content I’ve seen on UA-cam in a long time! Loved it! Subscribed!
@woodturner1954 do you have a pic of your fence using the red plastic roofing panels for your fence?
You can also run a string to keep your screw rows nice and straight
Quick question. Will there be an issue with wind? Not being able to flow through?
Me coming from a very windy location was thinking same thing, maybe sheltered there.. Guess it would blow flat at mine though 🤔
So happy to see you and the family made it through Helene 🙏 sorry the trees didn't 😮 hope Milton passed with no troubles . Enjoyed the video 👍👍 have fun with music 🎶
Thanks so much!
I NEED to do this at my house!
Block road noise, privacy. Thank you! I will definitely be doing this. Going to build two or three of them along my property when tax season gets here I think! Thanks again!
Glad to see y'all are safe after the hurricane. So good those trees didnt hit your home!
I love the top board. It’s a squirrel walk or run.
Idk how in the heck i ended up here, but this man seems wonderful!!
What is that style post called and who sells them? And who rents those post drivers? Thanks
@trailerparkcryptoking5213 they are called PostMaster posts by Master Halco.
You can rent pounders at a lot of rental places but the posts require a special adapter to drive they most likely will not have. Many fence companies are driving posts so they may drive them for you.
BAD ASS!!! What a great idea. Fast and looks good and lasts.
Definitely One Of The Best Of NOT The BEST DIY Video I've Seen.. Probably Don't Have The Courage To Do A Video But If I Did, I Would Steal Some Of Your Stuff.. Thank You For Teaching Me Something Today..
Building a metal fence is something I will probably never attempt. But it was quite entertaining to watch you do it😂
3:26 3,4,5 triangles are a great help for squaring up lines over distance with string
6:27 also, putting a clamp at 3’ can help you focus on keeping plumb
I have a metal roof on house. Last year I put a new roof and used the old panels for a fence. Works great. Strong and private. I had to get a bobcat to dig the post holes. I used some galviizend poles. I used plastic 4 inch pipe at some spots. I filled them all with concrete, and it's solid.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 I don't read instructions like you. Regrets. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Awesome video. You're awesome with providing music for us to use.
Looks great! I'm in the middle of a cabin project and was considering doing a fence like this. Several people have told me it will look like crap. I think this proves them wrong. Love the video! 😁
Thanks! Good luck with the cabin project!
@@HAXMAN Just shared the video with one of the "look like crap" guys. He changed his mind!
Since the cabin has two-tone metal siding, the plan is to do the fence the same way, so it looks more like an extension of the cabin. Of course, that could change. Plans keep doing that! 🤣
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I think it looks awful.
@@BruceHurley True, it is. I'm picturing it in the proper colors and completely finished with wood trim. If not, recycling is always an option. 😁
Love your energy man! Bout to be doing fencing myself, did this stuff as a teen and now relearning old knowledge. THanks!

Thank you for finally reading the instructions. My right arm was starting get real sore.
Nice work!

But no, they are not guaranteed to rot in any reasonable time. I'd love to see you put those steel posts into the ground in my area, its called Rock Cliff for a reason. You can't even use a power auger for more than a foot,
