It was so good to have you here in Vietnam Mate and totally fired up about working with you on your project... And for everyone who has never met Aaron, he is exactly the same in person as he is on UA-cam :)
Like the name and logo, great! Super bummed about the combo being delayed. I agree with other comments that there's always room for a great EDC and it's always better to simplify your focus and follow what you're most passionate about! But still can't wait for a sling/bag combo. I would absolutely love it and trust you could get it right. Looks like the project is coming along well, keep it up!
Appreciate that David! The sing/pack combo WAS a passion of mine, but over the years I've become increasingly drawn to minimalist bags. Hopefully I can tackle the sling/pack combo again in the future, but for now a minimalist backpack makes more sense for my first attempt
I like the name and the meaning behind it but the logo doesn't match the energy of the name. It looks quite generic and doesn't encompass the same fiery feeling of the name itself.
I think you made the right choice on the minimalist backpack. For one, I love minimalist backpacks, I’m currently rocking one everywhere I go. It’s the Curso backpack you recommended in one of your videos. Also, I love how ambitious your original design is but it probably will require way too much effort as your first launch backpack. Happy to see your hard work is coming together so nicely! Cannot wait for the backpack, already have my finger on the preorder button lol
Appreciate that John and totally agree! It was a solid idea, but as it developed it became increasingly clear to me that it was time for a pivot. Can't wait to review the Curso bag - my bag is actually going to be made at the same factory as theirs!!
@@Nomads.Nation I can’t wait for that review, it feels likes it’s an underrated backpack but it has actually replaced my Day Owl slim backpack. Even though they are the same size I have more room and can organize things better. That is so cool! You are where you need to be, and it’s no surprise your building your backpack alongside well known brands 🙌
Good luck with your pack. I was just in Vietnam in Ho Chi Mein, also putting together a new travel pack with our factory. It's always exciting to see progress. Fortunately, I'm a few steps ahead. Left Vietnam with my latest prototype back to the states. Then off to Europe next month for a couple hundred miles of walking to do in-depth testing. Keep plowing ahead!
Name is just fine. The pivot is fine, better to execute on one thing first that you can do at a high level than try to make something a little more complex off the bat.
Glad we are on the same page! Plus to be honest, this minimalist bag is going to bring so many new things to the table and will be my ultimate EDC based on reviewing 200+ bags :)
While the sling combo was cool, I got the impression I would probably just end up using the sling and occasionally the bigger pack for travel. I am more excited for an edc designed by you that could be my daily bag. Good luck!
Thanks for that! I am so stoked to pivot into this new minimalist pack. Luke has already sent me some videos of some basic samples and it's turning out SO GOOD
Definitely a very exciting journey and thanks for the update! As far as the name goes, I am an extreme stickler about that. I prefer either one that has good phonoaesthetics, such as AER, which sounds like Air, and evokes a feeling of minimalism, and lightweight, or a name that subtly communicates an aesthetic, such as Black Ember, which evokes a feeling of darkness yet firey. Fyro, I am not sure what feelings it evokes. It's not dull like "Bellroy" which sounds generic, or "Peak Design" which is absolutely devoid of identity. Fyro sounds a bit firey, but also playful. For me personally, I'm not sure I would identify myself with the brand name (I'm a Black Ember guy, and I own 6 black V-neck from Express that I wear almost exclusively with very few exceptions). However, in the long run, I think the product defines the name. KoRn for example is a really stupid band name, as Johnathan Davis said himself. I remember thinking it was "Corn" thinking what a dumb band name. Until I heard Freak on a Leash and Got the Life in middle school that is. Now I dont even think about "Corn" at all. Same as Bellroy and Peak Design. I don't think about the mundane name. If Fyro works, that's great. I have no idea what design communication you want to align your brand towards. Black Ember will always be pigeonholed in design, but perhaps dominating such a niche is not bad either. In the long run, as your business expands, your margins will not be made on your primary product but rather on the add-on accessories you sell to customers who already trust your product and brand. Black Ember sells those key straps for $35, or their super minimal wallets for $40, or their water bottle carrier for $30 for example, probably making 300% margins where their backpacks might make 1/3 of that. Best of luck though - I have no idea what design direction you are doing or what market niche you are trying to exploit because I don't follow your product too closely, but I know how autistic you are when it comes to bags to the degree that very few people even in the industry could compete with, and I think you have the potential to out-innovate people in the market. I hope you continue to forge strategic partners in order to spread your risk. Looking forward to more updates on this in the future.
Appreciate the epic comment! And from one Korn lover to the other - I agree with many of your points. I’m not a huge stickler for names cuz most ppl don’t end up caring. Most ppl have no idea what Nike means, it’s just a word and the products carry the brand and then the word becomes common. As a good example I agree that Bellroy’s name is laaaaame… but yet they are probably my favorite backpack brand regardless of that. 🫶🏽
@@Nomads.Nation That's literally it. If you love the brand name and you don't have people with pitchforks thinking it's the worst name ever, just go for it. In time the novelty of the name wears off and rather than the sound of the name, the products the name represents will come to mind.

I enjoy your pack insights on your channel and hope it translates into great success for your project. I think the pivot plan is a good one and I too liked the backup design. My 2 cents it to always keep the vision front and center of who your buyers will be as you progress the design, materials etc. On the brand name, being honest, I am not a huge fan and agree with the long comment that you responded to. For me, it's actually the F followed by the y. I know that's really, really picky and get your point that the name may not matter that much. Just for me, it edges on being hard to interpret or not 'natural' in some way and so becomes a bit more off-putting. But I suppose fjallraven did it (don't love theirs either, not that that matters to anyone). Logo is ok in my book, not great and not terrible, just there (reminds me a tiny bit of the timerland logo in that way). Best of success on this one!
Aaron, thanks for the wonderful update. It is pity that you are pausing of 2-in-1 but understandable. Anyway, there is no such item on the market (as far I know). It would solve a basic problem that you encounter on short trips and business travel: transferring EDC from one bag to another. I am using a Bellroy Sling for my daily use, and a Totepack for business trips. Traveling twice a month means transferring 4 times the EDC frm one bag to another. And you know how boring is that. And you always forget something which is double annoying. If the future 2-in-1 bag will be styling and elegant (premium version), I am sure you can sell a good number of it even the price tag won't be cheap.
