    Good video
    Some good tips.
    I see you did not do the clean up with the gold claw.
    Could I suggest another test. Panning using the gold claw and a round pan, to see if gold is lost like it was with the crock.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +2

      Wayne Tolver-Banks I used the round pan because I like to mix it up for fun. In my last Prospecting video I do this test with the Gold Claws.

      The same issue happens for all pans. You can't put large black and small gold together and expect the gold to win. After all panning is about taking advantage of gold weight.
      If its significantly out weighed it loses.

  • @Ken_James_SV
    @Ken_James_SV 6 років тому +5

    Chris, very well explained, and I can second the findings you show. I use my Rocker Box several days a week every week and the couple of times I cleaned out after running 3 large buckets (60 litres) I found gold in my Losses Pan placed at the bottom of the Rocker Box. I have it there to check for losses. But whenever I only run 1 large 20 litre bucket then clean out I don't get any gold in the losses pan 👍
    That tells me I start losing Gold after 20 litres due to the mats filling up with heavies, just as you have shown. And that is why I now clean up every 20 litres.
    I am out with the Rocker Box again tomorrow, and if I remember, I will video what I do and show the results 🙂

    Have the same problem with the coarse black and red sand myself in granite creek. Now use a battery and bilge pump to over pressure the crock tubes. Able to keep it laying fairly flat and fix the croc into a lightweight frame so never have to worry about re leveling. problem seems to have gone away. not much more to carry. Great stuff as always Chris.

    Boy, it's hard to believe the gator lost that much. But that was some super chunky black. In the gold bearing areas where I am there are lots of garnets and black sands from granite making regular clean outs a must. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +1

      Dirt:30 with George you have to remember that the gator has a tiny capture zone.
      Its a hiking sluice box not a mining one, aimed at sampling, traveling, kids and working like a bucket at a time.
      Pushing that much dirt through it was a very dumb idea lol

      Agreed. I run a similar system to prospect and a large sluice for production working. But if you don't push it you don't know its limitations. Thanks again Chris.

    I love the rocker box! Iv made one for myself . Iv got a video of it on my channel. The old timers worked hard , digging the pay out than rocking the box while feeding water with a ladel type tool. A far cry from our modern petrol engines

      I've had the chance to use one before, I dont particularly like them. They are so slow and finiky on the creek.

    Wow. This is one of many reasons why i love your channel. You demonstrate real solutions to real challenges in the field. Nice comparsion between the rocker and the croc. Btw... "lets get CROC'en" instead of crack'en😂😂

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +1

      Joseph kolodziej oh man that's a good one! I just joined a Pun group and I feel as if I've let them down!
      I feel many people look to their equipment as the issue when something doesn't work how they expect.
      But the blame is often outside of our control. If you're using your gear correctly and have had previous good results it means another factor is affecting your results.
      So factor in the new elements and a just accordingly.

    • @josephkolodziej3748
      @josephkolodziej3748 6 років тому +2

      Vo-Gus Prospecting precisely! That's why test panning is so crucial. It's not only showing you your speck count...but you need to note(as you so often have done) the type of soil conditions and adjust your approch accordingly😎 you are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for sharing mate.

    What are the pros and cons of packing in a rocker box?
    Are there alternatives for low water rocker boxes? That one looks heavy.
    Do you save your black sands? I hear they are used in the production of iron. But also sometimes gold can be locked into it kinda like sulfides

  • @Derek-gh8jq
    @Derek-gh8jq 6 років тому +2

    I live in the state of Tennessee in the states. I have a bazooka gold trap, which is , just like the croc. We here also have fine gold. To combat the loss of fine gold , I have zip tied 1/16 inch hardware cloth to the grizzly bars. It does an amazing job of lifting the chunkier black sand up and over the front edge
    , while allowing the gold to settle to the bottom of the fluid bed. You should try this, and give us your results , of said test.

    All the big rocks u pan before panning ur dirt u should throw back in those holes so if anyone is hiking or whatever they dont end up falling in the holes an cracks u have dug an break their leg or foot. Just a thought i really like ur videos an i subscribed

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому

      Leanna Shesler the law on this is pretty simple. Outside of a water way you must fill in your hole. So if I dug up in the bank I'd be required to back fill it for the reasons you stated.
      In a creek however, you don't need to. Because normally when its running (not like in the drought we're currently in) no one walks there.
      Just a bit of background for you.

    perhaps setting the spreader bar from a toner cartridge just above the exit from a sluice/sluice section might lighten the black sand density ?

  • @johnruckman2320
    @johnruckman2320 9 місяців тому

    Did you just have the one size classifier?
    If your gold was finer than the black sands in that instance would a two stage classifying have reduced losses?
    I know some dredges have a course gold box with a fine gold box underneath it. Could a rocker box, or even a high banker, be set up in the same way?

  • @bingsballyhoo711
    @bingsballyhoo711 6 років тому +1

    I wonder if you classified the chunkier black sands out if that would help? Like with window screen sized classifier? I do for the flour gold.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому

      Bing's Ballyhoo it would help. The gold and the black sand would then be of the same size and gold being twice as heavy would win the battle.
      However, you would then be classifying out the big bits of gold.

I just bought one here in the US (one of the more regarded brands) but it has been very challenging (doesn't seem to pull up any material regardless of how much i tighten or loosen, etc.)..Was so excited when it showed up and went to the nearby river, but it has just been a colossal headache. If you have already done such a video (or know of one by someone else), could you please point me in the right direction? All the best and may a galaxy of shinies always appear in your pan!

    • @VoGusProspecting

      John Taylor the main points are that you have to make sure the vales are wet first.
      Then you have to be quick. Just before the top of the stroke you should already be moving it to your container. This way it still has suction.

    • @johntaylor4638

      Vo-Gus Prospecting Of course! I knew when you went back to that spot with good gold you would get some, and you definitely did. You should do a test comparing the croc and a normal sluice on how much gold they can recover in a certain amount of time. You might lose some with the croc but more than likely you will recover a lot more because of how much material you processed

    great video .one day ill get you to come to my factory so you can see how i extract gold out of e waiste .i have a tip for you in your grading and classifying .ok i get a white bucket cut the bottom out of it .i glue rear earth magnets on the out side of the bucket .i put the material through the white cylinder and any magnetic stone sticks to the bucket. you can use a water PvC pipe also .these rear earth magnets are so powerfull they pick up dust from the air that magnetic they will pick a screw of the ground 1 foot of the ground .the company is in Bayswater vic .the magnets are dear but i swear if you have them one in each hand and you don't hold on they will jump put of your hand hit together and explode to fragments .they come with danger stickers .these would help you remove all black sand before you process .i use them on my copper granulator machine to purify tons of copper a day .cheers Tim COCONUT COPPER & E WAISTE GOLD RECOVERY .cheers hope it helps

      i have to process copper if I get 1 .1gram of iron .metal in 1 tone of copper its sent back and I have to run it through the machine again .i use the rear earth magnets when I detect i put the magnets inside the pvc pipe put 2 weels on it and I pull all the iron bits of tini steel fragments .and detect and it works incredibly .these magnets will pick up every spec of black sand iron stone fishing hooks swivels you name it .the magnets come in every shape and size. but i advise you put a plastic bag over them as its a big job getting the iron off .look i had one jump off my pick and jump onto the bonnet of my 4x4 it took me 3 days to get it of the hilux .if you stuck them on a classifying pan youl get everything magnetic i mean even thing .i had one magnet the size of a 20c coin it looked like a furry tennis ball from 1 bucket of pay dirt .

    Is it enough with the little CGTG? I do not much crevicing yet. Or big cracks.I like easy packing. So I have room for more gold when I go home ;)

      MrInsaint enough what?
      I personally love the CGT Gator, its so good for hiking or traveling because of its size. The main limitation is its small capture zone.

      Sorry, Chris. I meant what size is enough. 18 ", 30" or 36 "? I have a pretty big backpack, so I get room for 36 ", Salty Gold Trap Sluice. But is it necessary?

      MrInsaint the mid size is the best for most situations

      I've got a bunch of materials that I was going to experiment with in my sluice. Might have to give the rocker another go.

    i don't like your classifying pan. there is a commercially made one that fits down into buckets, almost sealing the edges so you can use water on smaller sizes. i'll see if i can find the manufacturer for you.
