I haven't seen one of these before but I'm really thinking the science is there. The video will cover my first test of this new device with a follow up video coming out on May 24th 2024 with new improvements.

My two cents (which rounds down to nothing here in Canada since we don't have pennies anymore).... Gold doesn't sink to the bottom because it's heavy, gold sinks to the bottom because it's dense (heavy for size).... If you got rid of some of the heavier and larger stuff right off the bat by putting a screen on the top (think large 1/2 inch mesh like chicken wire) it would eliminate them from the material pool and your smaller stuff would move around much easier and it would work faster.... Excited for part 2 buddy!

I’ve been hearing that suggestion a lot and I couldn’t agree more. I originally did this for fun and just to experiment with the possibility of it working and it seems like it’s gaining some traction. I have a new video coming out tomorrow where I got better results.
We’ll see where this goes and if in the end it’s a disaster, at least I can say I tried and had fun and learned something in the process.

I'd look into cutting a few more inches of the top bucket and use a braded mesh to classify. I think the gold is getting stuck in the top bucket from the air pushing up. Looks like a great concept though.

Nice concept, but instead of pumping air into the bottom of your bucket, try putting a wand aerator on the end of your are hose and stick it down into your classifier bucket. You can move the wand around and keep things stirring with air. Fines will drop through your classifier and you won't lose air pressure through the gap between buckets.

When we used to process lead out of dirt with a water bath and air you had to run a constant stream of 45 psi and you had to make sure that your filter above your airlines or pipes had a decent enough mesh to keep solid mass from Leon, I recommend using Screen coverings but your theory is correct on a small scale. If you could even put an agitator which we put on the 4000 ton drum one that we built you’ll find yourself quicker.

Liked, shared and commented. Once again I missed live. I was literally just watching u tube. 🤷♂️. I did later c notification, but not a pop up at the time, maybe I wasn’t looking at that exact 3 seconds, I dunno 🤷♂️. I love the outside the box thinking. One possible issue I c is the classifier is a bucket. Not a screen. There’s still a lot of floor to hold the gold. If it was a basket it wouldn’t have a floor. Only round wires. U would definitely make more fall through. This is an interesting experiment. But it’s gonna b hard to beat the fluid bed classifiers on a couple levels. 1. Complexity vs simplicity. Ure machine is still atm complex. Requiring compressor n hose, a couple buckets, bungeed together, a valve that in theory could blow rocks n yer gold out. U gotta bungee n un bungee to dump. N number 2. It is more expensive than fluid beds. Both in initial cost by requiring the compressor set up. And by run cost. Fluid beds run for free. No electricity required. I honestly hope my outlooks n criticism doesn’t deter u in anyway. I’d still love to c u move on with this. Cost isn’t everything we know. Some people want to spend more for the same outcome. We c it everyday. Some r satisfied with a 99€ cup of coffee n some a $4.99 cup. Some buy only expensive brand name products n swear by them being better strictly because of the cost. More expensive must b better. Completely ignoring the fact that many times the same exact products r just sold at different price points. Take electric cars n trucks as another example. They cost a lot initially, then they have limited range. Take forever to charge n pollute the earth with spent lithium batteries. But people buy em like crack.
Even if this turns out to b not practical, don’t mean it won’t sell. N please again, don’t take my words as mean. I’m a friend n just telling u what I c. U did ask. Looking 4ward 2 part 2. 🍻🗽🤴🏻 22:22

So you mentioned fluid bed classifiers above. Do they actually make these in some form or another? I know they make them with sluices, but I was sure if they made them in a “bucket” style like what I made. I checked YT and other sources and couldn’t find anything.
Also, I know this is very impractical and I’m not looking to sell these or anything like that. I always like tinkering and like I said in my video, that inspirational video lit a lightbulb in my brain. I just want this to kind of work but mostly have fun with it.
Now I did make some massive improvements which you’ll see next week that make this easier and work better, like no more bungee straps, waaaaaaay more holes, another air nozzle design, among with others. Yea the electricity, power and air aspect is still there but it is what it is.
All in all, what I’m finding is that the simplest of tools, a pan, classifier and sluice are and will be the best and easiest way to catch gold. That’s the truth hands down…
But why not play and try something different. :)

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser yes. They do make fluid beds in other forms. The gold drop is basically a fluid bed. It’s gold n material suspended in water and water pushes in from underneath. Lights float up n out. But the sluice looking design is most common.🗽🍻🤴🏻

Maybe a classifier basket in the top bucket would be cool also an air stone on the bottom bucket for smaller bubbles and and more even flow would be cool
Thanks Ben! The suggestion with having a classifier on top has been made before and I like it. Some have even said to have a tiered system with 1/2” then to 1/8”. Either way, I’ll give it a shot and see where this goes. It’s fun experimenting and that’s what makes this interesting!
Great video!! Issue the bucket so deep few seconds, the gold can't travel fast enough to get the bottom. If there were a air timer when shoveling. It could be working when you're working. On, off more times.

It's fun at work. Great concept. Try high presser water. Make it overflow to remove the lights from the bucket. At the right running rate gold should fall out.

As for the reality of this being practical, I know it’s unrealistic, but I like to tinker and experiment with new ideas. So this is more fun than having a production model. This is having fun while prospecting and I’m glad you enjoyed it.

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser just thinking about your idea you could pump water from the bottom with a tap to regulate the flow, that way when you on the creek you wont need a compressor just use the same pump as the high banker should work the same

Hey Boomer! Thanks! And yes, I could use water pressure but I don’t have a large enough pump and to be honest with you, this is probably illegal to do anyway in Washington state, water or air.
But I’m just experimenting and seeing what happens. I made some new improvements and in next Fridays video, the contraption works 100 times better.

I think place a small strip of weatherstripping foam around the inside of the bottom bucket. You should still be able to slide the buckets together because of the taper and it will also give you a little more room in the lower bucket. Also smaller air holes in the pupe to be able to release air at a more controlled rate.

Seems to be a good idea I'd suggest you take the air and blow straight up instead of down maybe it would break the wad that see.s to condense in the main feed bucket also I'd use flat rubber to make a gasket type between the buckets can't wait to see next attempt great idea over all though
Thanks Pitbull and those are great ideas as well. I wanted to have the holes pointed straight up, but I was worried when the air was off, that the concentrates would go into the holes more, but were still going to see if we can make this work. That idea may be the hot ticket.

I think you have a perfectly great idea except for lose the bungees and use the whole bucket as a classifier by grabbing the handle with the air on I think that would be very sufficient and it's probably going to be the quickest classification you can get either way manual labor is required but with the air and the bucket inside of a bucket twisting it is perfect idea

You need to do it with fluid. Air bubbles create surface tension that the gold can't break at that size. It's the same reason we use Jet dry.

I was thinking gravity feed water like the gravity sluice, with a long tube upriver
If that is in the back yard I would get 5or 6 railroad ties and put them across creek turn it into a sluice box you could easily clean out behind each flood :)

I’d go for this idea personally as I do whatever I want on my property, but to any looking to follow laws…. This could be illegal. Dan Hurd had mentioned it on his channel. Modifying the creek bed in some states is illegal. Look up illegal sluice on Dan Hurd’s channel for reference.

Also, if you're separating with a fluid bed. We used to run dry fluid beds to classify. If you keep pulling the rocks, that may classify faster. Low velocity is critical for this!

Even though I already did the second video for next Friday, it works better but it’s not perfect, but I’m keeping all of these suggestions written down for a possible third video.
I’m not even sure what this is anymore. It’s not really a fluid bed, but the air that flows through creates a fluid bed and so on. Hahah. So basically, I have no clue what I’m doing or talking about :)

I actually have a semi similar idea. Actually I have had several ideas rolling around in my head just no time or place to try it where I am. One thing I would suggest for your idea, put the holes facing upward or to the side. By pushing the air down you are pushing the gold up. Another idea for this is to use the gaskets from the lid for the seal. Me personally (using this air compressor method), I would run a straight pipe with inline holes down the side of the pipe after the valve with a plug at the end. Can easily slide it in and out of the side of the bucket. Essentially I would be trying to create a centrifugal effect (tornadoe) inside the bucket. But honestly a drill with a mud mixing bit would be a lot better for this application.
Hey Shenanigans! I like it, especially the pipe idea and you using it as a wand. I think that makes the most sense.
I thought of having holes drilled on top of the pipe at the bottom, but I was thinking the gold could potentially settle in the pipe when air isn’t running.
And I actually thought of using the lid gasket as you suggested, so I may do that in the future.
I already ran the second test with my upgraded improvements and had much better luck (next Friday), but if I do a third test, I’ll be sure and try some ideas I got from here.

Please do a test with a salted bucket! Fill it with sand and gravel then put some gold on top and then run the air through. See what happens.

I gotta say it’s a great concept but I think you’re going about it backwards.
Let me explain…
With your air tube in the bottom bucket you can only get a fraction of the fines to fall from the classifier bucket because once you get enough material to fall through to the bottom it will eventually block the holes.
Other fluid bed classifiers I’ve seen have a separate area for the fines to settle into.

It’s worth trying for sure. I’m currently working on a part 3 where I’m putting some viewer ideas to the test. I’m liking how it’s going so far. It’s fun to do regardless how impractical this is :) lol
I think you are on to something. Look at a ball jig. Pulsing water may be an idea instead of air. Then you could use a foot pump or something? But no one comes up with something new without testing ideas. ✌️✌️✌️

try running the air such that it only slightly aggitates, you dont want too much pressure coming through the holes. seems like ya gotta give the heavys a chance to get past the chambers. ya want to liquify, not boil.

Yes, the lights overflow from the top of the bucket is what you want. You may lose some float gold, but it is what it is. Try with water and make a video. I will subscribe now just to see it. More pressure the faster it will work up to a point. May have to make bigger holes in the pipe. ??? The holes on the bottom is the right way to do it. One place I worked we had bubblers in tanks and had them on the bottom to keep them from stopping up when cut off. Just a though. May have to put holes in the side of the bucket all around from the top down to a point to help it clean out. Remember gold drops fast so some holes up high will not make you lose gold. I like this so much I may make one. The wife and I do gold hunt.

As for making these contraptions. I’m just doing this for fun and I know it’s impractical and not going to work in a real world prospecting scenario but it’s still cool to try. I like experimenting and having fun. That’s what makes this awesome! Keep staying fresh brother!
So essentially a cross between a dry-blower and a hydraulic riffle?
I suspect the idea may work with a redesign to continuous stream air through smaller (1/32) holes in the top bucket that uses the space between the buckets for a manifold rather than for collection.
Screen your material the way Chris at Vogus does (with a deep-frying basket) and use the system continuously by just throwing many shovels of dirt into it and washing off all the light stuff.
That way you can pre-process a dozen or so buckets worth of material and then carry the resulting bucket of heavies to your sluice.
But as you say, the extra hardware required makes it impractical for most locations, but an interesting experiment none the less.

I do have better luck in this Fridays new video, so it’s encouraging. But like how you and I stated, this is pretty impractical for a real-world use, but regardless it’s still fun trying something new.

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Upon further cognitive work, I think the system would work even better if you used water instead of air, which would be a closer analog to the original fluidised sand inspiration and not only settle things down a little but be easier to do in the field. (You just need a water pump)
Then I realised the result would just be a scaled up version of the fluidised bed concentrator.
Instead of processing concentrates, you process the paydirt into concentrates that you then run through the sluice.
May be useful in places where you don't have running water to set up the sluice, you can "process" a dozen buckets or so worth of paydirt and carry the resulting bucket to the sluice.
I have been toying with such ideas, and every time I think I come up with something new, I find out it already exists in practical form :)
I agree Mick, I’m pretty sure everything has been done before. I did do some research on this particular gadget and came up empty handed but like you said, I’m sure it’s been tried with other similar devices out there.
And I do also agree that this could be used if you had an area with little to no water flow, which would be more practical. Just keep “concentrating” it until you have some really heavy concentrates.
I also had a longtime viewer tell me to get rid of the air hose, dump a shovel or two worth of material in there and then rapidly shake it up and down. This would make the water move up and down thus forcing the smaller heavy to sink because the material would stratify, so I may try that on a potential third video.
Either way, this has been fun and it’s been great having these discussions on what I honestly thought was a joke of a test. lol, thanks again Mick. I appreciate ya
What about flipping the air coil upside down in the bucket? The holes would still let the air out but it may be less prone to having material settle in through the holes when the air flow stops.

So I already do have the holes drilled into the very bottom of the coil, so basically the air is coming out and hitting the bucket bottom then floating to the top. I wasn’t sure if I was clear on that in the video. Are you wanting me to have to holes in this position or pointed up? I think from what I read, I’m doing what you suggested which is cool. Yea I didn’t want the material to migrate into the holes when the air stopped. The video that comes out tonight is a redesign and it works a lot better, still not perfect, but we’re getting somewhere. Thanks again for the comment and support!
A tiered classifier system would be interesting 1/2 to an 1/4 then you're air flow on top the 1/8th

There’s no such thing as failure in an experiment, unless you die but even then it might not be a failure..lol but you definitely need more hole in you classifier bucket It would help the air percolate into your classifier bucket instead of trying to leak out between the two
But also, what I think is happening there’s too much turbulence with out room for the heavier elements to sink and it’s keeping your small pieces floating with the lighter materials also, remember, the video you’re trying to mimic was done with dry sand.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been getting a lot of really great ideas on this and to be honest, this is an experiment to have fun with but it seems to be gaining some traction. So I appreciate the support and look forward to pursuing this :)

Thanks Roy! Another good idea. You’ll see in tonight video that I made a lot more holes, so basically, it’s a complete strainer on the bottom now. It definitely worked better, but still not perfect. Thanks again!

Yes you are right, I’ve seen those as well and I was more saying that I haven’t seen a setup like this in particular with buckets for prospecting. lol.
I also see that this is really impractical because there are too many variables and stuff to move with you to do this. Classifying with a classifier and bucket really is and will be the best way, but I like experimenting and having fun, so this takes care of both for me :)

You would be better off using water. Also in the inspiration video, ua-cam.com/video/A7slq3f2lJU/v-deo.html, they used a K Type nitrogen tank that puts out 2,200 psi when full. There is another video where they tried twice with different air compressors, one more powerful than the other and they couldn't get it to work either.
Hey amadeoap! Thanks for commenting! I would love to use water but I can’t as per my states rules, so yes, if I could, I would most absolutely use water. And that’s good to know about them using nitrogen vs air. I also know that this is impractical for any prospector but I like experimenting and thought I’d give it a go. I made some improvements and on next Fridays video, I got it working a lot better, night and day difference, so there’s something here :) Thanks again and I massively appreciate the support!

I wanted to say in the last comment that you are making more of a concentrator than a classifier.Also this fluidized bed is what is being done when you stratify in your pan. What I don't understand is why someone hasn't brought to market a batea type pan with a screw cap on the bottom so instead of swirling the light material off the pan you just pull off the cap and there are your heavies. Then you can just dump out everything else in the pan.

Your air velocity is way too high! You have created an agitated bed, not a fluidized bed. Do that to shake the dirt off the rocks then slow it down to fluiize it and let the denser particles settle.
A fluid bed stops being fluidized when the gas velocity is high enough to carry particles out of the bed. This point is called the "transport velocity".

This test was a dud, but my test for next week works so much better, so I figured out some issues and made some solutions. I’m hoping more people like you, give me some ideas for a possible test video 3. Or… maybe I’ll just take this bucket system and kick it across the creek, haha.
