  • Suzuki are the latest of the big four Japanese manufacturers to show signs of updating their model range and first off the blocks is this bike, the GSX-S1000F, a brilliant combination of sports bike engine and less aggressive ergonomics that add up to a very tempting package. Mat sneaks a ride on the first one in the country and comes away impressed.

    They have been making this bike in gsx 600f katana and gsx 750 f katana from the 90s. they used to limit rpm by 1000 revs on older models to reduce 10 hp or so. this is 1000 f and yes these F MODELS are much more comfortable to drive because the seats dont feel like ONE IS sitting on a plank of wood like R models.

    Interesting how, no matter how many times Suzuki said that this is NOT a sports tourer (or, at least, specifically described it as a "comfortable sport bike"), people seem to still call this (going by other tests, not just this 5yr old vid) a sports tourer. Often they do comparisons with it against sports tourers; it regularly gets labelled an imperfect ST compared to, typically, the Z/Ninja 1000.
    I've only ridden the N version, but I think I've come around to Suzuki's POV. Given the screen that can't be wider due to the close-set fairing that provides marginal protection, the subframe that exists purely hold the tail light cluster and licence plate and no designed provision for bags, straps or nets - this is NOT a sports tourer. That said, it's still a great bike and a great bargain for the right person. One can certainly go on a tour on whichever bike they want. I still hope that we night see a Neo Katana-esque restyle with the naked keeping the hornet tail and the F getting some redesigns at the front and back to make it more tourable (more fairing and cruise and subframe from V-Strom 1050).
    I am also still seeing better deals on this bike new than used.

    Excellent review. However, who'd it hurt to smuggle in a few more "performance"'indicators like fuel consumption, major maintence schedule items, warranty, and PFP's (predicable farkle purchases)? By the way, great to see an experienced and skilled (which is not a redundancy) rider do the review.

    I wouldn't worry so much about the haters. No problem with suiting up for spirited riding, and a knee is just a gauge feeler. Looking forward to the z1000sx comparison.

    Apparently, sports-touring in the UK doesn't require luggage or passenger accommodations. I'd call it more of a comfortable (for one) sportbike than a sports-tourer.
    As for losing 16 hp, that's what happens when you go for midrange torque. Midrange torque makes it faster under real-world conditions.
    Why am I commenting now, 2 years later? Because we're just now getting it stateside.

    Without reasonable pillion accommodations and not even the option of integrated luggage, you really can't call this a "Sport-Tourer". To bad, because if Suzuki had given it those two things I would have bought one.

      Motorcycle Extremist Fully agree. As I watched this video I got excited and started googling GSX-S 1000F luggage...and nothing. I need a top box for everyday commuting. I dont own a car. My bike is my transport. Here in the US, I can pick up leftover 2010 VFR1200, no mileage for R100k. I'll do that....

      +Paul Valakelis: No doubt Suzuki will notice you're not alone in that regard. I'm ok with it. I tour a CBR600F4i with softbags and it's worked out fine. I like the compact (black) look actually. If I get this Gixxer, I'll just throw those bags on the back and... done. Regardless, I see hard bags on the way...

      @yimmeistaryimmeistar7239 3 роки тому

      Suzuki UK, during its launch ar Isle of Man presser junket, specifically said this isn't a sports tourer. Hence the absence of integrated luggage.
      I wanted to buy one very badly but all the reviews and forums over the next two years said the throttle was snatchy and suspension "soft".
      Price in Australia was around $16500 ride away.
      I wasn't prepared to spend another 2+k getting a power commander and suspension upgraded on a New bike.
      Ended up forking out extra cash for an MT10.
      NO REGRETS WHATSOEVER!

    I have been riding bikes almost my entire life, and have ridden on every winding road I could find in California, I owned the first Kawasaki Ninja 900 that came out in 1984, and I loved that bike, it was so stable, I felt comfortable at any speed the bike could do, anyway I am curious why all the bike companies are so set on that new seat design, with the back seat a half of foot higher than the front seat, it never made any sense to me, you have a girl on the back, and she's leaning forward with her ass breaking the entire ride, and not only does it mess up the center of gravity, making it high instead of low, it's uncomfortable, one thing I always loved about my 900 was the low center of gravity, and the one seat design, why can't they put one almost flat seat on these new bikes, or two front seats at almost the same level, I don't get it, is it just for looks, because if that's the case, it's a pretty stupid reason to give up handling and comfort for two people, all for a sweeping looking back end, if the back seat was at the same hight as the front seat, it wouldn't change anything for the front rider, the center of gravity would be the same, but it seems to me it would improve the handling with a passenger making the bike have a lower center of gravity with two people, and at the same time being a hundred times more comfortable for the passenger, and this bike is supposed to be a sport tour, but I would like to see you girl friend ride on the back for an all day drive, so does anybody no the reasoning behind this lousy seat design that has taken over the industry

    One big question I have to go digging into the comments to find a copy of, is. If this is a "sport tour-er" then how well does luggage strap up to it? I have been riding around the USA and there are some ridiculously long roads between cities in the west. One definitely needs luggage when covering length. Are there any hard mounts available factory like the BMW F800GT or do we rely on soft bags? And where do they tie down in that case? Please for the future of your videos include a small bit with the "sport touring" bikes about the best options for luggage. Your research would resolve tons of extra data crunching for the rest of us. Thank you.

    I know I am late to the party here, but I wanted to say nice job, man! I like this bike, even more now that I have seen this review. The only thing I wonder about is whether or not OEM bags are available for it. The Ninja 1000 comes with nicely sized and completely removable bags which to me is brilliant. Doesn't seem to be the case for this bike, and I think Suzuki missed the boat there. Oh well, it's still a cool bike! If my GSX1250FA EVER dies, I might just buy one!

      Dennis M I rode the gsxs1000. Throttle snatch was terrible, real shame. Loved the bike apart from that. It really ruined it for me, pretty dangerous mid corner if your not used to it. Caught me by surprise on my test ride.

    • @dennism1919
      @dennism1919 7 років тому

      Wow, sorry to hear that. The GSX1250FA suffered the same thing, but it wasn't as bad as what I am hearing from you on this bike. I guess they have not made the refinementa to the fueling that i was hoping for. I was able to take that away on the FA by re-calibrating the TPS and removing the secondary butterflies. I also changed gearing and learned to shift at slightly higher rpm. I was also going to put a fuel controller on and tune it out but I never got that far.

  • @mavricxx

    Love the look on this bike but I wish they would integrate the turn signals like Kawasaki did with their bikes. Also, I agree with him, wish they would have gone the analog rev counter better; the digital rev counter is boring. Suzuki really needs to update the GSX-R model lineup too, and do away with the single headlight look which is stale and boring/ugly.

      Dhaval Bane No worries bro, the naked GSX-S1000 version is being released at the same time, so about 3 months from now in South Africa - don't know about the rest of the world's schedule. It doesn't look as good as the Kawasaki Z1000 but it is meaner looking than this GSX-S1000 F version. I'm assuming the F stands for Fairing

    You're just poking your knee out and shifting your butt, watching you ride looked really awkward, no proper upper body and head movement at all, just doing that whole twisted body technique.
