Thanks a million doctor Kopelman. Very informative, very useful information. Just returned from Turkey. Had many procedures. Still wondering what's going on with my face. You cleared it up completely 😊
Hi Doctor Six months ago I had a face neck lift, in some parts of my face and my neck still numb, and my neck has presented many unevenness skin under the jaw, I still have double chin and the skin is falling and I still have wrinkles. My surgeon is very disappointed and he wants to redo the surgery again. what do you recommended me,? I am 70 years old, I don'tsmoke, no alcohol, no street drugs. After surgery, he removed the drainage the next day of surgery and never put a band wrapping around my neck and face like some surgeons recommend, and after the surgery I have developed big swelling glands on my neck. Thank you in advance for your advice
Hello . are there non surgical procedures that can be done for a puffy area on one side under jawline of neck near saliva gland after deep plane face and neck lift?
You're exactly right about the hearing. No one really talks about this issue. I had a lower facelift and necklift on April 11, 2024. In my initial consultation with my doctor, the recovery process was made to sound very easy. I was told that I'd be driving in 2 weeks and back to lifting weights and fully recovered in 6 weeks. None of that was true. I'll be 7 weeks post-op this coming Thursday, and I still can't move my head from side to side, so of course, this stops me from driving, like I was told I'd be doing 2 weeks post-op. However, what bothers me the most is the swelling in front of my ears, below my earlobes, down to the back of my jaw. This swelling seems to be at a stand still. It never dissipates. My glands in these swollen areas are definitely swollen as well. This swelling by my ears definitely has effected my hearing. When I asked my doctor about my concerns regarding the swollen gland areas and muffled hearing, all I get is, it's all normal. Easy for the doctor to say because he's not living with what I'm going through. I do not believe that the swollen glands in front and below my ears, and my muffled hearing is normal. My doctor has never spent a lot of time with me before and after my surgery. He always seems to be rushed to get to the next appointment. I should have paid more attention to the red flags that I had before my surgery. If your doctor that you're consulting with doesn't seem to want to spend time with you explaining your recovery process, then he, or she isn't the right doctor for you. I don't believe that my doctor has spent a total of 20 minutes with me, not counting the 3 hour surgery when I was put out under general anesthesia. Had my doctor not sugar coated the recovery process and just simply been truthful about what I was in for during my recovery, I may have opted not to have the surgery. I'm not a depressed person, but depression set in by the end of my 1st week post-op. This is quite normal, however doctors should at least warn their patients that depression can set in for a while. I was pretty badly depressed for about 3 weeks, and it was not fun. Facelift depression is a real thing. Look it up. My depression had nothing to do with the way that I looked, or looking in the mirror. It was an uncontrollable depression, probably stemming from not being able to move around; as I'm usually very active. I'm over the hump now, and if this swelling around my ears and muffled hearing would just go away, I'd feel so much better. My advise to anyone who is contemplating have any facial and necklift surgery, choose a doctor that only does facial and necklift surgery, and nothing else; and by all means, choose a doctor that is willing to spend time with you to answer all of your questions. Remember, your surgery is about you, not your doctor/surgeon.
Thank you for the informative video, Dr. Kopelman. I am day 11 post-op now. I didn't hear you mention a lump from drain tubes in the neck or cheek areas. Is this also a common issue? I developed (or noticed) one on each side of my face at the drain sites about 2 days ago (in the cheek, not the exit hole), the left side about twice the size as the right. I feel fairly confident it will resolve on its own and am going in soon to get my anchoring sutures and staples out so will speak to my surgeon then, but I was wondering what your thoughts are and experience with this might be.
Thank you very much Doctor Kopelman, this is a great video. I am on day 18 and I don’t have any swelling any more, but I have a long lump between my cheek and my ear which, looking at your illustration, seems to be the marginal mandibular branch. Will this go away? and if it does, how long would it take. I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you very much.
I was told I had a deep plane FL but the bruising is in front of my ears down toward the jaw line, but not in the cheeks. Could I have been given a SMAS procedure instead?
About 4 weeks after my facelift, I developed a mycobacterial infection on the right side of my face. I was sent by my surgeon (a board-certified U.S. MD) to an infectious disease specialist, who recommended additional surgery to remove necrotic tissue, as well as a 4-month course of two different antibiotics to clear up the infection. It was pretty much a nightmare. I have numbness at the surgery site and my face has a depression where the necrotic tissue was removed. The most ludicrous moment came when one of the other MDs at the plastic surgery facility actually told me that all I needed to do was wash the area with Suave shampoo. I sort of disassociated at that point, and swore off plastic surgery forever more.
Mycobacterial infections can occur from many sources.Facial infections are rare from these organisms. Tap water for instance sometimes harbor mycobacterium and can contaminate wounds.I have seen a few cases in my career from suspected ice that was applied directly to their wounds that is why I insist that patients apply ice inside a plastic bag to act as a barrier to their surgical sites to prevent these rare complications.
If a facelift is done incorrectly or complications are not handled well in the correct hands, yes. But more than a majority of people have truly unbelievable results.
This is how you know a doctor is legit - he’s honestly gonna tell you about risks! Praise!
Honesty and letting patients know about all the benefits and risks of plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures is what I believe in.
Thank you for the detailed description of the possible complications. I can tell you are an excellent surgeon, I would have no hesitation going to you.
Moral of the story: find a SKILLED surgeon who has done many face lifts!

Not to mention disappearing tragus on the ear. Telltale sign. And it likely impacts hearing, but nobody talks about that aspect of the change.

Doctor, I would like yo know if a person who had a parotidectomy in the past can have a facelift procedure. Will the facial nerve be at risk?. Thanks!.

Could be small collections of blood or just swelling -hard to say without seeing the problem
Thanks for this educational video.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks doctor for all the informations how can we know wether the mandibular marginal nerve injury is temprory or permenant and what you recommened ?
If you are having trouble smiling after one year then the chances of having a full recovery are unlikely
can this help a little bit with acne scars on the cheeks and lower jawline? and how please?
Thank you very much Doctor Kopelman, this is a great video.

I really can't say what the "lump" represents without seeing and feeling it. It could be swelling, a seroma?, hematoma? or somthing else
Merci Docteur 👍
When can one wash hair after face lift surgery?
48-72 hours is what I recommend to patients

From what I understand, some doctors call a SMAS lift deep plane.
@@Corrans a SMAS is a different procedure. It is not a deep plane. Seems like it would be dishonest if someone called a SMAS procedure “deep plane”.

5fu was the name of my chemo
That is true. 5FU is sometimes used as chemotherapy agent. It happens to work really well to soften scars and it is very safe to use.
It sounds like a facelift can permanently mess up your face.

I hope I can choose a good facial plastic surgeon in the Indianapolis area.
