I did erbium yag, best results by far! First month is harsh & it can take several months for pinkness & tenderness to go away but totally worth it. Also recommend treatment is performed by a dermatologist, not just a tech. While tech's may be able to do a decent job, a derm is far more skilled especially during recovery & maintenance phases and hopefully less likely to sell you questionable products & follow-up treatments.
Everything depends upon the intelligence, experience , and ethics of the person performing the laser. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists are usually well trained to perform these procedures (but not always).

@bathemeinchampagne I have been on the combo b.c. pill for over 30 years for various reasons. My mother started on HRT (estrogen-only patch) in the early 2000s post-hysterectomy. Lines are a natural aging by product as we lose collagen and fat deposits above our top lip so the structure of the skin and tissues decrease as we age. Non smokers and non drinkers get the lines the same as smokers. Plastic surgeons wouldn't have jobs if we weren't so obsessed with the changes to our faces as we get older. Just grow old the way its intended, ignore lines and wrinkles, they are the map of our life.
I just watched a video explaining that the reason men don’t get lip lines is because they have bigger hair follicles growing thicker hair on their upper lid and around the mouth. These provide more strength and integrity to the skin. Thus preventing wrinkling in this area. Men also have the added bonus of being able to grow a beard to hide any wrinkles and sagging jowls. I’ve also been told that women get upper lip lines wrinkles due to oestrogen loss.
As I had horrendous complications due to laser treatment, I sought advice from a laser expert based in Belgium, his clinic uses the Tele viv advanced chemical peel method instead of lasers, as his clinic has found that the complications I suffered from are common and the peel has less complications and a better outcome. Thanks for such great explanations!! I have always had dimples, which I always thought was great, but as I have aged I have more wrinkles! Are people w dimples treated any differently to refresh their look?
Great explanation doc. I agree with you 100%. At age 33 I had a full facial CO2 laser. It wiped off 20 years of spots and wrinkles. At age 57, people always comment on how young I look and how clear and smooth me face is. You are right, I received the max benefit w CO2 laser but the down time was long. I wasn’t embarrassed, I went to work even tho I looked like a burn victim. Lol
Well I am glad you are enjoying the benefits! And of course that I am providing everyone watching with the correct and up to date thinking of how best to treat lip lines.
I never drank, never smoked but in my youth did sit in the sun which I don’t do anymore since I am over 60. Always use suntan lotion 50 and the part underneath my neck is still smooth and not so awfully dried out that you see so often. I am 77. But yes, I noticed since about a year that the lines are more visible. I just use a very good facial cream, slightly colored, and fill the lines with that and blend it out over the rest of my face. Works fine. I am afraid of all those treatments so won’t ever do them!
Thanks Doctor. Where should botox be used? In the lines or in the lip. One doctor made my lip very young looking and beautiful and when I moved to another city , doctors didn’t do good job and it looks flat and not effective using botox.
You're welcome! Botox is typically used to relax dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, such as frown lines, crow's feet, or forehead lines. When it comes to lips, Botox is often used for a subtle "lip flip," which can make the upper lip appear slightly fuller by relaxing the muscles around the mouth. However, Botox alone doesn’t add volume like fillers do, so if you're looking for a plumper, youthful lip, fillers may be more appropriate.
Dr. Kopelman, would you say that optimally using one of the lasers you mentioned and then filler would be a good combination? On the one hand I would like to have a "quick fix" with filler but on the other hand I would like a long term solution but concerned about the pigmentation problem. Thank you for your informative post.
I broke out in a some type of dermatitis on one side of my upper lip. After a couple weeks or so, when it resolved, I had lip lines on that side. Yippee!
For myself, I have small teeth. I gave up cigarettes 12 years ago before I even noticed any! So I’m blaming my small teeth - straight, never had braces, but small! Now for the appearance aspect. At 60, I don’t need to do a full face of makeup anymore. But to improve my appearance, I go with Mascara and Dior Addict Lip Tint (hands down the best) but until it dries completely, it can and does run into those fine lines! It’s frustrating! Back to Dr. Kopelman! ❤
Yes, daily sunscreen when you are out and about is always recommended. This will not only help prevent lip lines but your entire face from aging. You have to be consistent with this and also make sure that on a sunny day you are "baking" your skin in the sun like at the beach or pool.
My daughter who is a dermatologist who also UA-cam's just released a video about Korean sunscreens which are light and very protective for the skin, you might enjoy this! ua-cam.com/video/0C5VayEGALA/v-deo.html
Use Retin A for prevention! I’m 65 and have used Retin A since I was 27. I’ve had quite a bit of sun and still look many years younger than anyone my age. People have a hard time believing my five older siblings, even siblings one and three years older, are of the same generation. I use it on my eyelids and under eye area even though it’s not recommended. NO NOT use it on the sides of the nose above nostrils. For some reason, the skin is flaky and just stays flaky.
Retin-A can thicken the dermis and keep your skin LOOKING YOUNG but staying out of the sun and protecting your skin from harmful rays is equally important
Thanks for the excellent lecture on upper lip aging and types of treatments. Many of us cannot afford to do these things or think we can’t. Is it possible to tell us costs of some of them or rate from low cost to high? Or compare short terms gain versus longer term affects? For example you mentioned using fillers.i assume those to be on the less expensive end versus laser but if you have to repeat every six months not so inexpensive. Thank you !
I don’t smoke don’t drink alcohol cleanse tone and moisturise morning and night I take vitamin D3 have thyroid disease and Parry Romberg Syndrome and Sjögren’s syndrome. I am in my 70s and have heavy lip lines I hate them.
not a smoker, not a drinker, have relatively small mouth, teeth are not small but smalish in size...I had these...however, I have been undergoing Invisalign treatment and I noticed that these have been significantly reduced. I have also started used tretinoin. I also do micro needling at home. so far so good. I prefer to stay off ablative lasers.
Thank you for being honest about treatments available. I have those ugly lip lines and I’m not a smoker. I drank from straws here and there, not on a constant basis. I think mine is sun damage and now I have to use straws for my morning tea due to having my teeth whitened by KOR for tetracycline. I now try to drink without piercing my lips. 😂I tried micro needling with RF and it did not help. I had my whole face done four times. Again, thank you for your tips and honesty.
Don't be too hard on yourself. I wouldn't worry about the straws. More likely it is due to sun damage. You might want to explore laser treatments and fillers around the lips to soften the lines if they continue to bother you.
I never smoked nor drank but whistled as a young girl and sun bathed…I am 81…is it too late to do anything about lip lines ..the rest of my facial skin is youthful. Thank you.

what creams do you suggest?
Yea! Dr. Is right, no botox or other such new fangled tech.
Very informative and like all the options depending how aggressive you want to be, Thank you Dr.
Would you please include photos of the effect each laser treatment produces?
If having a TCA peel, how long before it is alright to have another one? Thank you . Great video
If you had a superficial TCA peel you can repeat the treatment in 6 weeks but if the percentage of the TCA was higher you may have to wait a year
Never smoked but habit of biting my lips which caused the lines.
Thank for all the good and useful information.
From washing oil off after you eat, you might wash oils off, careful use a non degreaser soap.😊
Dr. Kopelman, would you say that optimally using one of the lasers you mentioned and then filler would be a good combination? On the one hand I would like to have a "quick fix" with filler but on the other hand I would like a long term solution but concerned about the pigmentation problem. Thank you for your informative post.
Thank you so much, Doc🌹
Very good advice! Thanks so much... ❤
Glad it was helpful!
I broke out in a some type of dermatitis on one side of my upper lip. After a couple weeks or so, when it resolved, I had lip lines on that side. Yippee!
Hello Doc.,
You sound like a Jersey boy! Don't know you but you seem very caring and sincere, whith heart.
Back to Dr. Kopelman! ❤
This was very informative. Thank you!
Very informative and helpful information!!! Thank you so much !!!
Glad you enjoyed!
Castor Oil is fantastic for these. Skin in general.
Thank you for sharing this vital information.
Recommend sunscreen?
Thank you !
Does pumping in and out on the lips with a small syringe with a wide end help blood flow, skin depth and reduce wrinkles?
wow! great video doctor
Thanks!

Amazing coverage "Thankyou so much Doctor !"
Glad you liked it
not a smoker, not a drinker, have relatively small mouth, teeth are not small but smalish in size...I had these...however, I have been undergoing Invisalign treatment and I noticed that these have been significantly reduced. I have also started used tretinoin. I also do micro needling at home. so far so good. I prefer to stay off ablative lasers.
how about CASTOR OIL? doesn't take them away as fast but surely is healthy and nourishes the skin
What would you suggest for someone with diffused scleroderma? Thank you!
I have some facial fat loss, won’t have facelift would sculptors be ok?
Thank you again Doctor for your honesty and giving me an answer.
@@drkopelman I meant to respond. What type of laser do you recommend ? I have glycation also on my chin.
Very informative, excellent video!
I never smoked nor drank but whistled as a young girl and sun bathed…I am 81…is it too late to do anything about lip lines ..the rest of my facial skin is youthful. Thank you.
If you get a few wrinkles at seventy it is natural. I think the best option is to accept this and be thankful to be pain free, alive and outward looking.
💯
Sehr informatives Video…. Vielen Dank❤
