    In the Natural Health field, we've learned that " multiple nutrient deficiencies" most importantly 99 that are critical to consume every day, causes premature aging. Poor diet and lack of exercise, even facial exercises, are contributing factors, as are negative thoughts, actions and feelings. Our cells respond to our beliefs so command them to stay healthy then back up the beliefs with Peace, Prayer and Supplementation with vital Nutrients. Thanks for allowing my comment Dr. K. Thank you, Dr. Kopelman. This straight forward delve into the causes of lip lines and various types of treatments is well done and appreciated. I am 75 1/2 years old so, because sunscreen wasn't sold in stores (don't even know if it existed at all) my entire life until I was in my 30's, my skin has had daily sun exposure. Being an outside type of child/teen/young adult, my skin has had an onslaught of sun rays and, yes, I did go to the beach, spend the entire day and soak in the sun.🙄

    I did erbium yag, best results by far! First month is harsh & it can take several months for pinkness & tenderness to go away but totally worth it. Also recommend treatment is performed by a dermatologist, not just a tech. While tech's may be able to do a decent job, a derm is far more skilled especially during recovery & maintenance phases and hopefully less likely to sell you questionable products & follow-up treatments.

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  7 місяців тому +17

      Everything depends upon the intelligence, experience , and ethics of the person performing the laser. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists are usually well trained to perform these procedures (but not always).

      @@meerkat783 That info has been revised. It was based on a flawed study done in the early 2000s, and an increased risk of breast cancer is low. Talk with any reputable OB/GYN about HRT if you don't have certain risk factors, such as blood clots. There are far more benefits, such as osteoporosis prevention, than risks. That flawed study hurt women for decades.

    • @oceans.and.deserts
      @oceans.and.deserts 4 місяці тому

      @bathemeinchampagne I have been on the combo b.c. pill for over 30 years for various reasons. My mother started on HRT (estrogen-only patch) in the early 2000s post-hysterectomy. We have no family history of breast cancer, and her husband is a retired OB/GYN. There was always a risk vs. benefit ratio, but more so due to clot risk. I am a non-smoker, have a low BMI, low BP, good cholesterol levels, etc. I don't believe that the good doctors changed their prescribing habits on one study alone based on personal experience, but I definitely did run into bad doctors when I turned 40 who refused to even write me a script for my combo b.c. pill to suppress my painful, heavy, week-long periods. They were all female doctors without an ounce of empathy, incidentally. I luckily found a nurse for nearly a decade who saw the whole patient, and I am now with a better educated doctor since she retired. It's my body, and in a broken, for-profit healthcare system here in the US, I am the paying customer. The onus is on the medical professionals here to do their job based on benefit vs. risk. There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.

    Dr Kopelman The skin around my lips is lighter than the rest of my face And when I exert myself it gets even lighter and it looks so weird What do you think is causing this Can it be related to poor blood flow or something of that nature?? Thank you and thank you for all the great content about lip lines I have them too

    Lines are a natural aging by product as we lose collagen and fat deposits above our top lip so the structure of the skin and tissues decrease as we age.
    Non smokers and non drinkers get the lines the same as smokers.
    Plastic surgeons wouldn't have jobs if we weren't so obsessed with the changes to our faces as we get older.
    Just grow old the way its intended, ignore lines and wrinkles, they are the map of our life.

    I just watched a video explaining that the reason men don’t get lip lines is because they have bigger hair follicles growing thicker hair on their upper lid and around the mouth. These provide more strength and integrity to the skin. Thus preventing wrinkling in this area. Men also have the added bonus of being able to grow a beard to hide any wrinkles and sagging jowls.
    I’ve also been told that women get upper lip lines wrinkles due to oestrogen loss.

    As I had horrendous complications due to laser treatment, I sought advice from a laser expert based in Belgium, his clinic uses the Tele viv advanced chemical peel method instead of lasers, as his clinic has found that the complications I suffered from are common and the peel has less complications and a better outcome. Please research cosmetic procedures and ask the doctor/procedure provider about complications and what is the protocol to help reduce them if they should occur. If you suffer complications, you need advice and support, ask if you will receive this, NEVER rush into having treatment. ❤

    Great explanation doc. I agree with you 100%. At age 33 I had a full facial CO2 laser. It wiped off 20 years of spots and wrinkles. At age 57, people always comment on how young I look and how clear and smooth me face is. You are right, I received the max benefit w CO2 laser but the down time was long. I wasn’t embarrassed, I went to work even tho I looked like a burn victim. Lol

    I never drank, never smoked but in my youth did sit in the sun which I don’t do anymore since I am over 60. Always use suntan lotion 50 and the part underneath my neck is still smooth and not so awfully dried out that you see so often. I am 77. But yes, I noticed since about a year that the lines are more visible. I just use a very good facial cream, slightly colored, and fill the lines with that and blend it out over the rest of my face. Works fine. I am afraid of all those treatments so won’t ever do them!

    Where should botox be used? In the lines or in the lip.
    One doctor made my lip very young looking and beautiful and when I moved to another city , doctors didn’t do good job and it looks flat and not effective using botox.

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  18 годин тому

      You're welcome! Botox is typically used to relax dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement, such as frown lines, crow's feet, or forehead lines. When it comes to lips, Botox is often used for a subtle "lip flip," which can make the upper lip appear slightly fuller by relaxing the muscles around the mouth. However, Botox alone doesn’t add volume like fillers do, so if you're looking for a plumper, youthful lip, fillers may be more appropriate.

    For myself, I have small teeth. I gave up cigarettes 12 years ago before I even noticed any! So I’m blaming my small teeth - straight, never had braces, but small! Now for the appearance aspect. At 60, I don’t need to do a full face of makeup anymore. But to improve my appearance, I go with Mascara and Dior Addict Lip Tint (hands down the best) but until it dries completely, it can and does run into those fine lines! It’s frustrating!
    Back to Dr. Kopelman! ❤

    Recommend sunscreen?

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes, daily sunscreen when you are out and about is always recommended. This will not only help prevent lip lines but your entire face from aging. You have to be consistent with this and also make sure that on a sunny day you are "baking" your skin in the sun like at the beach or pool.

    Use Retin A for prevention! I’m 65 and have used Retin A since I was 27. I’ve had quite a bit of sun and still look many years younger than anyone my age. People have a hard time believing my five older siblings, even siblings one and three years older, are of the same generation. I use it on my eyelids and under eye area even though it’s not recommended. NO NOT use it on the sides of the nose above nostrils. For some reason, the skin is flaky and just stays flaky.

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  6 днів тому

      Retin-A can thicken the dermis and keep your skin LOOKING YOUNG but staying out of the sun and protecting your skin from harmful rays is equally important

    Thanks for the excellent lecture on upper lip aging and types of treatments. Many of us cannot afford to do these things or think we can’t. Is it possible to tell us costs of some of them or rate from low cost to high? Or compare short terms gain versus longer term affects? For example you mentioned using fillers.i assume those to be on the less expensive end versus laser but if you have to repeat every six months not so inexpensive.
    Thank you !

    Thank you for being honest about treatments available. I have those ugly lip lines and I’m not a smoker. I drank from straws here and there, not on a constant basis. I think mine is sun damage and now I have to use straws for my morning tea due to having my teeth whitened by KOR for tetracycline. I now try to drink without piercing my lips. 😂I tried micro needling with RF and it did not help. I had my whole face done four times. Again, thank you for your tips and honesty.

    • @drkopelman
      @drkopelman  5 місяців тому

      Don't be too hard on yourself. I wouldn't worry about the straws. More likely it is due to sun damage. You might want to explore laser treatments and fillers around the lips to soften the lines if they continue to bother you.
