WHY are YOU SCREAMING?
Nice set up. A geopress nests pretty well inside a stanley cookset ( - the 2 cups), which nests in a stainless Ozark trail camp cup as well.
Plus you aren't faced with having to clean the Stanley before using it to cook in as you have to with the Pathfinder that has recently held "raw" water, whether you've filtered it or not.
Good to know thanks for sharing
Grayl recently released the titanium version of this 24oz model with a lid. So, now you can have 2 cups if you nest the stainless steel cup or you can find another titanium cup to nest with this.
I bought one of the cups right after they came out. Great addition to my kit. Thanks for another great Black Hat Video!
Thank you so much for tuning in my friend. I hope it serves you well!
What great timing! I just received an email notification from SRO yesterday informing me that these cups were back in stock and I redeemed my points and ordered mine right away. Thanks for the video demonstration.
Absolutely! I am glad you were able to get one ordered and I know you will enjoy using it in the field! I really appreciate you tuning in and sharing a kind word.
I have just bought the geo press filter and pathfinder cup. I never thought of prw filtering and it makes a lot if sense.
I’m happy I came across your video. 👌🏻
I saw this and instantly bought it. Super pumped! I’m thinking about making a canvas pouch for it to help store the lid in the bottom. I use this filter the most while trout fishing fits perfect in my orvis sling pack. I’m excited to make a little trout stew from water and fish out of the same creek! I also have the pathfinder set I love the size of this new nesting cup.
The only thing I can see to make this system better would be to add a bail. When I get one I plan on drilling 2 holes in the corners to mimic the smaller size cup
What would make it amazing is to add a french press so you can use your bandana as a filter with your french press, to do away with the Millbank bag.
Just before watching this video I had bought this cup..I plan on useing my millbank pre-filter for collection of water. I have found threwout time getting water into the millbank bag was difficult & at times I had to get into the water too do so. Normally not an issue..however in the Winter it was not an option. So I Cut a slit into the bag that allowed me to feed a heavy gage electrical wire threw it allowing me to form a open loop at the mouth of the bag..lon g enough to tie bank line to it. That way if I could lower the bag into the water source or throw it in fishing style and real it in full . Useing the Cup to scoop out water source into mill bag had contaminated my Cup which forced me to clean the cup by boiling or cleaning with bleach. KISS is my motto. I'm new too you Channel and like what I see..so binge viewing in order to catch up with your content.
I got mine a few weeks ago. Always love my Grayl and this cup makes it better.
I couldn't agree more! Thank you for tuning in and sharing a kind word Bryan!
Pathfinder gear is always outstanding.👍👍
Good morning Matt. Good video. Have a great day
Great video
@@garymoore3446 Thank you so much Gary! I appreciate you tuning in.
I have one myself, great pice of kit. Thanks for the great video and for sharing your thoughts, ideas and experience with us Matt.
I just bought this plus a replacement filter. Can't wait for it to arrive
Of Course I Subscribed!! Great video sir. I enjoyed meeting you (again 🤦♂️) at field day today. I look forward to talking to you again.
Matt, I always love your videos. All you guys with Pathfinder have your own style when making videos and yours is one of my favorites.
I see a potential problem with the PF Grayl cup. One of the selling points of the Grayl is how the contaminated water is easily and always isolated from the drinking bottle and its spout. I identified a couple of scenarios where the PF cup could undermine that, I think.
If you were to use JUST the Grayl filter to gather water and filter/purify it and then drop the Grayl into the PF cup, then the various bacteria, germs and viruses, let's just say "bugs", on the outside of the Grayl collection shell are now inside the PF cup. It would be unsafe at this point to use the PF cup later for drinking or eating until it was put in a fire or had a good boil to kill those bugs. If a friend said "I cooked more of my freeze dried trail meal than I can eat. Would you like some?" and just dumped it into your PF cup, that wouldn't be sanitary or safe. His portion would be, but yours is in a contaminated cup. If you wanted to mix an electrolytic replacement drink in your PF cup, using purified water out of the Grayl, you could be recontaminating the water from the Grayl with the bugs in the PF cup.
The other scenario is the one where you use the PF cup to fill the canvas bag prefilter. That cup has bugs inside and out at that point it shouldn't be used again with food or drink without firing or boiling to kill those germs.
I may be over thinking this, but I think a great emphasis should be placed on killing the bugs in the PF cup once it has been in contact with the outside of the Grayl or when used to dip unclean water (that second point may be more obvious to your followers, but I think it bears mention).
I'd also like to ask you, and if you don't know the answer, maybe you could ask around in your PF circle, why do Grayl filters expire within a few months after their first use, according to the details on the filter's outer wrapper?
I had the same train of thought when he was using the PF cup as a container to get source water and you bring up a great point about when it's nested around the outer cup and getting re-contaminated.
Since I posted this comment and posed the question about the filter replacements expiring, I've learned that they no longer sport that warning. I don't know what changed, but now they are good until you find that it takes a certain number of seconds to force the inner cup down into the outer cup. I don't remember the time (30 seconds come to mind) but it indicates that the filter is full of filtered-out material and should be thrown away.@@aznelite325
It is a nice setup. I have the same grayal you have down to the color. Purchased at SRO along w/the bottle bag and I really like them both. All I need is the cup to make a complete system.
Good stuff! Enjoy your channel as always. Take care.
Matt that is an awesome set up!!! I absolutely love it!!!!!! Been looking into getting a filter system to have on the trails for quick hydration without boiling the water, for some reason if I couldn't. I was going to get a sawyer micro filter but now after watching this video, it's going to be a grayl geo press. Way more versatile than any other system I've looked into. I like the size of the nesting cup too, not too cumbersome and fits right into the bottle bag with the cup! Thank you very much for doing this review. I can't wait to see more content from you brother, especially the camp cooking recipes that the viewers submit, I haven't submitted any but I still thoroughly enjoy them. God bless you and your family and I hope 2023 is off to a great start for you all!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words Peter and I am truly glad this video was helpful! That makes the time and effort all worthwhile my friend. When you get your Grayl all set up, I hope it will serve you well! God bless you and your family as well brother!
@@blackhatbushcraft anytime my friend, thank you.
Thanks Matt love my Grayl and Grayl cup. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your new videos.
I had email notifications set. Ordered it as soon as I received it
Excellent piece of kit for sure
Awesome tutorial Matt. Thank you for sharing..!
Thank you so much for tuning in brother! I hope you are doing well and I wish you much success on your new channel! I look forward to seeing your work my friend. God bless you and your family and also, keep an eye on Blackie 😄
I will have to get me one!!! Thanks for sharing, stay safe!!!
Nice piece if kit. Excellent presentation.
I always like when I get a notification from Blackhat
Hello from Vorarlberg Austria 🇦🇹
It's always a shame to see when a channel just gives up😢
Kind regards Leopold 🤗
Matt love my 60 oz bottle and use my french press nesting together, plus carry 1 of my grayl bottle have 1 like yours and 1 titanium one
Was super keen to pick up the pathfinder nesting cup for the Grayl, but then found out the weight... My Jetboil Zip weighs effectively the same. I really need a nesting cup and burner to come in lighter than my current setup to be worth it for me.
Just ordered this SS Cup yesterday, got the Millbank bag too. Using the SRO 'notify me' email feature really works great for getting notified when things come back in stock. I'm glad you did this video Matt, seeing more about using the forthcoming cup and filters is welcome, as the filter is still in the packaging and unused along with one extra filter. Hopefully things will change later this year when I get out and about; at least that is the plan.
Same here. And I also plan on drilling holes for a separate bail.
That was a miss on their part.
Hello my friend and thank you for your kind words and support! I appreciate you tuning in and I hope your new gear will serve you well! Hopefully you can get out soon and put it to the test. Blessings to you and yours!
@@CreachterZ Hmmm, good idea friend, I'll have to consider this, though it might interfere with the Grayl resting inside. I suppose we could make the bail easily removable when not in use. This will require some looking into; best wishes. 🏜
@@4449John That’s the point. Make a solid place for the handle and make it easy to slip down in the side and attach when needed.
Great video! Thank you
Nice. Two things that come to mind - one, would like the cup to be taller to better protect the grayl, two, need a cup for the grayl mini. Nice Setup!
Nice demo of a cool product!
Good review Matt , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome and informative video my friend.
What would make it amazing is to add a french press so you can use your bandana as a filter with your french press to do away with the Millbank bag. You could then also make coffee. Very multipurpose. You could put the french press ring at the bottom of the cup and the handle shaft inside the grayl. Would be a complete filtering kit without that bulky millbank bag.
Thanks for a good video Matt.
Thank you for tuning in and commenting Hershel. May the Lord be with you my brother.
Definitely getting one!
Excellent gear
Just subscribed, great vid. Going to order one today.
What brand of shirt are you wearing? Looking for one like that. Thanks!!!
The first time I saw it I ordered one for my grayl
Looks like it would work well with the FireBox 🔥boil plate.
Always on point!!!
outstanding❗ thanks ❗💯👍
Hey man I been with you since packrat 556
Hey Matt! 👋 I remember Dave taking about this when I was out there. Really good demo. Now that I upgraded to the Pathfinder scout pack this might be an option for me. The side pockets on my day hike pack were too small & couldn't hold the regular Grayl. I'll have to add this to the birthday list. Thanks brother!
Hey brother, I hope you are doing well! This is definitely a great addition and I hope you are able to get on for your birthday 🙂. Keep up the great work on the EXPEDITIONARY JONNY channel (go check him out if you haven't). Take care brother!
Awesome video !!! Where did you got that orange bandana ?
Well … It would be nice to know where to get the cup!
Thanks for the tips…
Seems like it might be a little late to the game, I've been running a Stanley cup with my grayl for year's.
Hello from Vorarlberg Austria 🇦🇹
I thought grail was making a titanium version as well? 🤔 Am I wrong in thinking that this is in the pipeline? 😅
Kind regards Leopold 🤗
Great video man!!
Grayl Titan ❤
need to get one
How much burn time do you get on your stove used in this video? If you prefer a different stove, what is it?
I got one. Just wish the would of reinvented the grayl maybe shortened it an inch. But made it some wider.
By doing that. Bytime the cup was made to fit around it. It would of been that much rounded. Which wouldn’t of even been much.
But would of been a lil more friendly to cook easier without being so deep. But wider
A question Matt - does the Grayl Bottle & nesting cup fit in the Pathfinder Water Bottle Bag? I am assuming that is the one you have in the video. Thanks my friend!
It does indeed Terry.
Dipping a cup with handles into moving water is more secure then risk of dropping losing the grayl plastic cup which would make the press useless
What brand of hat are you wearing? Thanks for the cup tip. I ordered me one.
Unfortunately I dint think these will ever come back in stock 😄
They are in stock right now actually. I saved this video just for the occasion! I am not sure how many are in stock but as of now, they are there.
@@blackhatbushcraft Awesome !!!!
Just ordered one last night from the Grayl site. They also have a coupon code for 15% off. I paid like, $106 for the filter and cup.
I'm hearing that grayl actually replace that plastic cup with a titanium cup.
How do you handle such a tall and thin vessel when it is over fire? There’s no way you are touching those handles.
Does the smaller Pathfinder nesting cup also fit the Geopress?
I doesn't. The Geopress is bit larger in diameter than the 32 Oz. stainless bottle which is what the 25 oz. stainless cup was designed for. The Grayl cup seems to be a slightly heavier gauge steel also.
@@blackhatbushcraft - Thanks for the info!
If I'm using the grayl as an everyday water bottle because let's face it tap water is just as suspect as water in the wild, will I get more than the advertised presses or just the same
I am with you 100%. I don't drink tap water without filtering because I can't stand all the chemicals. I would say you get more presses because there is no sediment or turbidity in that water. The one thing you should always do is leave your filter out to dry when not in use. Leaving it wet all the time seems to degrade it faster in my opinion. Thank you for tuning in and commenting!
Great promo! Those Grayl are pricey tho.
A game changer? A cup outside a cup?
Definitely. You can boil water for thermal disinfection and cook in the metal cup as well and it takes up no extra space being on the Grayl.
It is good but in a survival situation i would rather have a Sawyer Micro in my pocket so I can either use straw / bottles / camel paks to drink water from the environment compared to a system that I need the whole bottle + base and stuff. Yes, if everything never goes wrong this one is faster and easier, as long as it is always with you.
Does the Grail work similar to the survival straws Matt??👍☘️
Better
does a lid come with the cup?
The area that I camp in is downstream from golf courses and farms, how well will the filter do in removing chemicals?
Good question, I've heard mixed results, but those are usually stated by competition to this Grayl filter, so I have little confidence in most of that. Seems everybody has an agenda these days, honesty is harder to find recently. I've had good luck with SRO so far, at least I'm still above ground, so that is something.
Do it help if you survived the nuclear bomb?
I just ordered the cup and I was wondering why there’s no holes in the cup to suspend it from a tripod like the 32oz cup
Great video! What pants are you wearing? Thanks.
How well will a Nalgene bottle nest with that cup?
Just tested mine with the 32oz nalgene bottle. Bottle will not fit as it is wider.
👍👍
I too noticed no holes for a bottle hanger. Was that intentional so people would use a stove instead of a fire? In that case, will the stand from the 32oz system nest over the grayll cup so i can use it with a fire?
Just curious, why would having the side holes prevent you from using a stove, etc. I plan on breaking out my drill as soon as it arrives. Ordered yesterday after the email came out.
👍💯🔥
No holes for fish mouth spreader ? To Hang cup
La borraccia NON filtra i ciano batteri.
What’s happening with you? No videos in several months
why to expensive
If you can afford it just buy the new titanium Grayl.
Don’t drink from the cup now, without cleaning it. just sayin’
Would be all over this if the water bottle would fit inside with the lid still fitting on top to make it one complete kit, I don't want to have to pack my lid separately
NICE👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Why bother? I just pre-ordered the Grayl ultrapress titanium. I'll just keep my geopress as is.
I am sure it's nice. I just haven't been able to swallow the price on the Titanium Grayl myself. I would definitely like to have one but the opportunity to hasn't come up for me yet. I still like the capacity of the Geopress myself and the ruggedness of this heavy gauge stainless cup. Hope your TT Grayl serves you well.
@BLACK HAT BUSHCRAFT love your channel and I watch your content often. I have a geopress too. It cost me $100. Add 30 plus shipping/tax for the pathfinder geopress nesting cup and you're at 150. That's only $50 short of the Grayl Ultrapress Titanium. You also get the 1 way valve option that allows for drink powders/mixes which is pretty cool. Also, if you sign up for text message notifications Grayl will five you a 15% off promo code. So the Ultrapress titanium ends up only costing $20 more.
@@davidchoi7655 That makes sense. I guess I was looking at it from the aspect of already having the Geopress and then only adding the cup. If someone were starting from scratch, that would make a lot of sense. I really appreciate your support and I appreciate your commenting and sharing.
I wish coffee would disappear. Tired of hearing EVERYBODY talking about it
WAZELINIAŻ ! 🤦♂🤢 👎
🤔
doesn't the water still need to be boiled?
I don't think so believe is ready to drink after you press it, I don't have one thou been looking into it myself right now
No need to boil the water.
