Self reliance outfitters also sells a mill bank bag that can pre-filter water to keep your filter on your grill from plugging up so soon works very well. Highly recommend it Way to go Canterbury.
I have a "nesting cup" that fits my Grayl Ti Ultra press. It's a slightly looser fit than Pathfinder's for the Geo press. The Snow Peak Ti coffee press is an ideal companion to the Ti Ultra press. You can disassemble the coffee plunger and use the top for a lid. I fold my pre-filtering bandana in quarters, lay it on top of the coffee press cup, and push it in with the Ti filter press. This fits perfectly and doesn't rattle. Then I can disassemble the plunger/top of the coffee press, put all parts in a Ziploc, and tuck that in my pack. The coffee press is calibrated on the inside and holds 700ml. I've used it to boil two cups of water on an Evernew alcohol stove in about 10 minutes, consuming about 1.5 oz of everclear, at 5500' altitude. Great combination.
I have the larger grayl. You don’t think it’s heavy but after a 20 mile hike or a 3rd day of a hunt, you can feel every once. I find myself not grabbing it as I head out the door to hunt white tail or elk for this very reason. Hell, I often pass up Nalgene bottles for the same reason and grab the large smart water bottle instead. Unless I’m not heading back to the cabin at the end of the day, I usually pass on it. It often stays under the seat of my truck in the event of a zombie apocalypse. I’d love to say I always grab it but I don’t. It may be good for those hiking trails that have water onsite at camps but say it’s not potable. I’d rather have a short wider cook pot as well I think. Just my two cents. The comfort of knowing your water is mostly safe is a good thing though and I like the idea of using it at home if ever needed.
I have both the Grayl Geopress and UltraPress. I would love a nesting cup, but I am making do with the nesting cup for the Pathfinder Stainless water bottle for my Geopress. I would love a titanium setup in the Geopress size, and hopefully, Grayl will develop one!!
I checked the Grayl website on 5 May, 2024 and they a 24oz GeoPress Ti listed for $219.95. It seems they listed to the public and made it happen.
They already make it and I own one. It's fantastic and comes with a cook top lid.
Grayl seems to be taking over the outdoor purifcation industry by storm. Years ago I had never heard of them. Now they are stepping up the game with reliable equipment. Well done. I think Im gonna consider my Katadyn as a bakup since it mushes down to nothing and pick up a grayl. Camofire has them on sale every once n awile.
They started as a concept on fund me and have gone through upgrade improvements in design since.
Has some limitations but what it does it does well. Never run petroleum based oils or any oil period through it. Same with tannic "swamp" water or highly particulated water.
I have used a light coat of food grade silicone grease on the seal to make it easier to press. Seems to work out well.
Marketing. There are at least six purifier on market, workinkg on the same principia. All of them are cheaper and simplier to use. All of them have performance confirmedy by laboratory testy.
Most hard example is 4Swiss, with double membranę, cost 30usd and fitration capability 3600 liters..
Man, I love my Geopress and hate it at the same time. It’s perfect for the car, house and hiking but for deep woods overnighters, i tend to take the sawyer. The Geopress is heavy for long distance and bulky for the amount of spare water it carries. I’ll tote it in the dry season when water is stagnant but tend to revert back to the Sawyer in the wetter season when water is flowing.
I always carry both!
Based on input from others and personal experience, I recommend using a millbank bag to extend the life of the filter. Also, if you don't use it frequently, allow the filter to dry out. Don't store it wet. Lastly, don't store a wet filter in excessive heat or cold.
What’s a millbank bag if you don’t mind me asking?
@@ggomez221 It’s a canvas bag that you saturate with water then pour the dirty water in to filter out the sediment. It helps extend the life of the filter.
@@BeSeeP Wow, I never knew those things existed, and they’re really cheap. Thank you for telling me!
The Millbanks bag was inverted by the British during WW1. Think endless trench warfare and the logistics problems on the front.
The millbanks has tightly woven canvas fabric that filters most detritus, particles even large cellular forms. It doesnt filter all bacteria or virus or chemicals/pesticides. Sometimes the water has to be poured through 2-3 times before it runs clear. It still should be filtered or boiled or chemically treated.
I was looking at making my own but sourcing tight weave canvas that hasn't been treated with waterproof silicone or fireproofing chemicals can be dificult. Best to go with quality.
Amazon sells the original version reproduced by a new company. And of course Pathfinders sells their version.
They both run around $20.00 ea. I've bought 3 and plan to pick up more.
With a carry strap you can attach one to the side of your grayle!
No wet storage in heat cuz of mildew/bacteria overgrowth? Wouldn't that happen with regular room temp?
I have a couple of the ultrapresses with backup filters for my wife and me. I would love to see the ti in the larger size.
It’s most definitely on the to buy list & that Geopress 👍🏼👍🏼
LOL love the ending. Thanks for the info
I saw your video on the Grayl and I wanted one since then. It’s products like this that got me in the Battlbox in the first place.
A great video. Some key stuff was well explained
Would love this!! I have multiple Grayls for all my family and gear
One of the biggest issues I have is, I will let myself get too dehydrated by not paying attention. I have been researching bottles and filter straws to use when riding or hiking and i have to say your video was very helpful and helping me figure out the various kinds of Grayl bottles. Like you, everyone who uses one likes them, but they usually are talking about a specific Grayl bottle, your video was one of the better once I found that explained that the filter system was all the same, and the names only had to do with size, style or a specific attribute. So thank you.
I have geopress size.. and I love it. My favourite water treatment style.
Gotta take a look for that Pathfinder cup .. it feels good combo with geopress 👍🏻
I bought the Nesting Cup last spring and used it extensively in the Swedish wilderness with the Grayl, of course. Great piece and worth every penny.
Looking forward to getting the nesting cup from self reliance outfitters in a BattlBox soon !!
Been waiting for one of these 👍
Love it mean it ! I have had my grayl geo press for a couple of days and it's awesome already a full time part of my everyday day carry ... Now to add the nesting cup to my load out bag !
I love the Grayl bottles! I don't have the titanium version though. That cup may be the answer to buying another bottle! I will have to look at them for sure!!!
I just got one and ready to try it out
They're awesome got one for each family member
I love mine!
I have the geo press and just ordered the ultra press today. Love them and use it every day.
I have the geopress with the metal container from dave canterbury, love it.
nice review to the point and not a weapon in sight hahaha only kidding Im now subscribe! all the best from Straya🤠
Great videos !!
I am currently hiking to Everest base camp and I had purchased my first Grayl Geo and when i booked my trip I purchased the ultra Ti for my trip and used it the minute I got to Kathmandu and all the way up with no plastic bottles used . Great job Grayl !!!
I don’t have one yet but would love to get one! 👍🏽
I do not have one as yet, would love to get one. The Ti version looks great as it has the added usage of the metal container for meals and heat ability.
Good vid. Yes I want 1. Thanks🥶
I have the Grayl Geopress and now I'm buying the nesting cup. Thank you for this info.
thanks for watching 🙌
Freakin’ love my Grayl.
I definitely want to get one!!
I want one NOW. Thanks.
Good Evening ! Iv'e got the geo press & now I'm getting the cup. TAKE CARE..
I ordered the geo press Pathfinder combo after seeing this video. Very clear to me, thanks!
👍
Love my geo press got the Milbank bag for a pre"filter" the cup the one way valve for inside the filter itself So i can add electrolytes or flavor packets it's an awesome system
Have the Geopress with the PF cup and lid. Perfect combo… I make my own mill bank bags out of 10 oz canvas. It definitely helps prolong the filter life.
Hope to see this in a future BattlBox
I love the grayl I’m glad they came out with the nesting cup.
Did you see how small it is?
@@CreachterZ mine is 32 oz just like a Nalgene so not a big deal to me.
@@renegadearms Grayl has a 32oz nesting cup?
@@CreachterZ the entire nesting cup isn’t 32 0z but it fits a 32 oz Grayl and the nesting cup if I remember correctly is equal to a normal nesting cup it’s just slightly smaller in diameter but taller.
@@CreachterZ correction the geopress is 24 oz but the nesting cup is almost equal to a regular one it’s just taller and slightly slimmer versus shorter and wider.
Added it to the wish list 🎉
I love how Grayl is getting into the "nesting" hardware. If you can't get all your water storage/treatment to fit into only *one* self contained storage pouch, you are doing it wrong. We are *supposed* to be higher forms of primates, we might as well act like it. No rattling gear in the bags!
I’ve been giving my siblings a geopress each, still have to get 4 more this year. Then I’ll start on my nephews and nieces and their families. I should start collecting millbank bag filters to give them primary filters to remove particulates before filling the geopress purifiers. My younger brother and his wife travelled to Portugal and did a 3 day hike using their geopress purifiers and they were pretty impressed with them. They also used them sightseeing in the cities filling them from public drinking water fountains, which are pretty sketchy sources of drinking water, and had no health issues, at all.
Grayl & Berkey are my go to for water filtration. Although I do have some Sawyer filters & AquaTabs.
I would love to have any or all of these in my pack
I have a Grayl Geopress and the nesting cup by Pathfinder.
And it's the best thing since the invention of the tractor. Nuff said.
Well our prayers have been answered!
Grayl recently dropped the Ti Geopress! Granted, it's a bit spendy but what's your life worth? I like that the Pathfinder stainless cup nests around the standard geopress, but I wish it had a D-ring between the butterfly handles like the OE Grayl TI options.
That Pathfinder Stainless cup is rock solid. It's slightly smaller in diameter than the Pathfinder stove, but will nest snugly inside the pathfinder bottle cup which nests inside the stove.
And dont forget to pair your Grayl with a milbank bag to prefilter debris and extend the life of your filter.
Watching 7mo later, they do have a geo ti version now
Love mine. I have several of both versions, though not the Ti yet and not with the new valve as I have too many of the old cartridges. I travel with my original Ultralight and both the regular as well as the tap water cartridge. I will sure miss the tap water version once I run out.
Got this bottle awhile ago and use it on the Appalachian trail a lot ! This things super easy and works extremely well, tell you another thing if anyone gets one ,just order a few replacement filters and the drink mix cartridge and I highly recommend the grayl Margherita mix and the beer mix ,and yes you heard me correctly the beer mix is actually alcohol 🍸 along with the other one 😂 ,ive got the ultrapress which is 89 bux 16.9 ounces one , I would love to have been able to get the titanium one ,but 199.00 bux is just out of reach
I have one GeoPress with the nesting cup from SRO in my Bug Out Bag. I also have an UltraPress in my get-home bag. I just ordered the Ti UltraPress since I am loaning the other two to my parents. I suggested that they take them to Africa while on vacation.
I love the Grayl system. I just wanted to clarify though the Geopress is 24 oz, not 32. 👍🏼
Thanks for the info!
They make the geopress in titanium now for the same price as the smaller one.
I have the ultrapress I rap with a bandanna an the path finder spork then slide it down in the geopress metal cup perfect for the haversack
Grayl 24oz GeoPress Ti Purifier with a cover lid too. Made by Grayl. They make it.
Great News. Grayl is producing the Titanium Version in the Geopress Size now!
I currently have the Geopress, and I use it with a 4-liter water bladder. The bladder can fold down really small, but I can fill it with up to 4 liters of water, and then I can filter that water as needed for drinking with my Geopress.
I take my titanium 16 ounce with me on every adventure, and used it daily in the Philippines on my last two trips there, didn't shit liquid no even once.
Maybe BB will send us the nesting cup, already have the grayl..
I have the geo press. Never had to use it yet.
I have 3 - my first was an Ultralight (no longer available, but the filters are), then I got a GeoPress & added the Pathfinder nesting cup. My newest one is the GeoPress TI - so - yes, they got there - it just took them a while…
I like my P.F. nesting cup better than the Titanium Grayl because you can keep water stored AND use the cup for cooking! It is heavy duty and as such is heavy.... Lol....BUT Dave if you are listening.... a titanium version would be perfect !!!!
Like the large size in titanium
I've been thinking about getting one, I have other filtration systems but want to downsize to make room in my haversack.
So how long does a new filter last after its been used fir th4 first time? Can I go fishing with it today, wash the canister, put it away for 4 weeks? After a while will the filter be useless?
After boiling water in the nesting cup, can it be poured into the geopress outer cup as you wait for it to cool down, or will the heat damage the plastic? (Im not suggesting the filter is used with boiling water, only if the plastic can withstand the heat of boiling water)? Thanks!
If I'm using the grayl as an everyday water bottle because let's face it tap water is just as suspect as water in the wild, will I get more than the advertised presses or just the same
I just bought the titanium version and it is extremely difficult to press down, i am returning it today as i am keeping the Larq for travel. Any idea why it keeps pushing me up, i am litteraly doing a dip o. The thing.
Hi
Great video,
I am in the UK, do you know if this filters fluoride out?
Have the big one with the pathfinder very nice but don't use it alot as those filters are expensive and don't want it to go bad but keep extra filter on hand
do you really count how many times you press? or how do you do? I honestly didn't count how many times I pressed with my ultrapress, but today for example I felt that it had started to drip, I thought it had to be changed and changed it, I honestly don't know how long I used it or pressed it. how are you doing?
Can you slide the Ti geopress inside the cup?
Interested in these for ghb
This is the first time it hits me but Grayl Ti UltraPress for the hands down win. Why? Because it is all that we always need - except the extra water volume when we want more water, right? Well, EASY FIX... carry along a light-weight and small dimensions, collapsible water bladder of sorts and simply fill it up from the Grayl. Draw from the folding container first and your bottle is always there. I personally love the smaller size, built in fire-ready outer container, and non-fixed handle. Thank you for this video.
Thanks for watching 🙌
I told grayl I'd buy the bigger titanium if they made it. They said they would. So I'm patiently waiting. Love my 16oz titanium
To extend the longevity of the filter, would you recommend pre-filtering with some cheaper product like the platypus?
I figure the platypus alone will never be good enough, and the grayl filters are quite expensive to use often, and carrying both doesn’t seem like it’d add much more weight
I use a Millbank bag where ever the water looks full of silt. Slows the process down but extends the potential life of the Grayl filter.
I pre filter with a Sawyer when water is in agriculture and cattle country. It’s a Sawyer that I dedicate for pre filtering herbicides and pesticides.
When I’m in areas with clear looking, non-ag water, I leave the Grayl at home and just carry a Sawyer.
As soon as they get a coffee press for the titanium then I am in.
Great video. My question: do you know how the filters stand up to freezing conditions? Looks like a great product but I'm wary of filters that are damaged once water in them has frozen and expanded. Maybe this is all filters? Just wondering if you have any technical information from Grayl or advice of your own?
They have info on their website for care of the filters.
Generally you can get away with up to 3 freeze/thaws but then they should not be considered serviceable.
I think the idea is protect them from freezing, while out in extreme temperatures.
That’s some high quality H2O
does the titanium work after the outside cup has been dinged up or dropped on the trail?
I've been wondering that myself, having recently picked up the TI geopress. I imagine dings at the bottom wouldn't affect it, but I'm worried about dinging up the sides where the seal makes contact.
I’ve got an older grayl bottle, and after watching this I think it might be time to upgrade to the titanium version.
Do you think it's too thin to be used for a cookpot?
Not only the reasons you mentioned though if there's chemicals in the water a filtration device like this can help too because boiling won't clean it.
In case anyone is watching in the future, Grayl now do a Ti Geopress with a lid for the outer cup for boiling water. I’ve used a standard Geo for years in several countries, now have a Ti version as well.
One question how many leaks. It can be done
GeoPress® One-Way Drink Mix???
Where did you find a 32oz grayl? The biggest I've found is 24oz.
I haven't used my geopress in more than a year. Do I need to replace the filter?
An unused and airtight cartridge can be stored for up to 10 years. Once opened, use it for 3 years or until press time is ~25 seconds.
There’s a 32 oz geopress?
I would love a titanium or stainless steel version / accessory, the water tastes a bit plasticky
I think they make a 24oz titanium now!
South ga ….?…. I’m close to Valdosta myself
Yeah just ask the people in Flint Michigan about filtering water in their homes.
Are we going to see that Pathfinder in Battlbox?
I use it for trips to foreign countries like Mexico with unreliable hotel water safety. Cleans the tap water for a quick cup of instant coffee or lipton's chicken noodle soup! Montezuma's Revenge is no joke!
I fish in the ocean quite a bit. Would this filter out the salt?
unfortunately no. it work work on salt water, but we did test out a product that can filter salt water: ua-cam.com/video/dlSSggjG2pE/v-deo.html
*won't work
how do you know when the filter needs to be replaced? other then counting to 300
The time it takes to press with your GeoPress or UltraPress will gradually increase over time. We recommend replacing the cartridge once the 'press time' reaches approximately 25 seconds (or three years have passed since the first use). Please note that colder water may require longer pressing time and does not necessarily mean the cartridge needs to be replaced.
@@Battlboxthanks for pointing out that colder water might take longer to filter, hadn't thought about it but it makes sense given the density increase.
Do not know. Will titanium warp? If using the outer shell to boil water. Will it warp? If it does, then won't the seal not work properly?
I've daily used a snow peak pot & cup, titanium, for years & they haven't warped in the heat of a propane fire. ( The only negative thing about TI is it doesn't hold heat, but this one little negative doesn't outweigh all of this metal's positives; tough & super lightweight!)
They use a thick titanium so that doesn't happen
Great in theory but im definitely not going to contaminate my pot but nesting the Grayl inside. The Grayl is continuously submerged in dirty water...
Typically you boil water for cooking etc with the nesting pot. Tons of people for years have used this nesting method with bottles. You do you 👍🏻
@@Battlbox I don't think you understand...
The Grayl is dipped into dirty water in order to collect water. This contaminates the exterior of the Grayl. If you nest the Grayl in a pot, the pot is now contaminated unless you put a barrier in between.
Actually Ti version is the same VOLUME, but noticeably smaller in size.
