I have both size grayls and love them. Youre right that the larger version is better for hunters, hikers and general woodsmen. But i find that the ultralight model is good for fishermen (freshwater that is) since youre in or around water all day so you dont exactly have to carry water to the next source.
Short, sweet, to the point with a load of info in a small amount of time. Down & dirty just the way we like it. Been watching for years and thats what sets you apart…no nonsense 👍
Missed the Millbank bags. All sold out already Friday! Will wait until restocked before buying cup, bag, and an extra filter. Already have the Grayl. Awesome gear Dave! Thanks for keeping on! 👍
The Grayl has been a game changer for me. It combines two items into one for me, and lives in my pack. I have a milbank bag I got off of Etsy that fits over the Grayl itself. I use it all the time. I dont even fill my water bottle prior to heading out-just fill up at whatever water source I find at my local trailheads. The advantage of living in New England-theres almost always water, everywhere.
I have several Grayls and the Pathfinder nesting cup with a bag. David is not BSing. It is a GREAT system. The Nesting Cup is perfect. I highly recommend. Excellent advice on how to "save" the filter by not using, pre filtering, etc. Don't use up a resource when you don't have to. I gave one to my son who travels a lot for his work and he loves not as well. Don't worry about the water...filter it. And I am just some Joe. Not affiliated or paid for by Pathfinder.
Straining or pre-filtering really saves the Grayl filters. Ever since doing so (I just use a bandana and a ranger band) my filters last way longer and stay easy to press down.
Your nesting cup was a great product, I have 4 of them for all my geopresses. I wish you’d make one for the ultra press, I have a titanium cup that kind of works but is a little loose. I always carry the nesting cup with my grayls just as a back up and as a cooking and boiling/ char cloth etc. The Grayl was a definite game changer for me.
Yes! I've been waiting for the special for the squirrel cook kit ever since i saw the video! The milbank bag is a nice upgrade over banana & water bottle.
I just need to invest in a Milbank bag, I already have the other components. I also already have the bedroll squirrel cooker, so good to go there as well. Gotta love Pathfinder products. Thanks for the video Dave.
East Tennessee here, born and raised! I know of 2 to 3 water sources, springs that run year round. I know of a PVC pipe shoved into a bank on the side of the road that runs year round. Best water you'll ever drink.
I like your approach to the use of the Millbank style bag and boiling of the water as a reasonable generic approach to water sanitizing, but I am not sure that the Grayl will always be the best companion device, especially for hiking and similar situations. The Sawyer range is likely my preferred product line.
I have Grayl Ti and appreciate the way it could be used in both the backcountry as well as urban EDC settings. Sure it's a heavier item, but it produces A superior Results and is more versatile than a squeeze style filter. For example, you are not likely to carry and use a squeeze style filter into an airport or a kids ball game to source water from water fountains drink machines, and taps whereas the Grayl looks just like any other bottle and filtering is FAST so you filter snd go. I personally combine it with a double wall bottle packed full of ice for balls-hot NW Florida summers. Also a Pathfinder Millbank bag for the woods.
🇺🇸🙋♀️🐴🍃Great video, I'll have to check out the sale! I was thinking if you had to filter water through the hood of your jacket or other clothing, it would be better than a bunch of debris fouling up your filter. Thank you for that last clip, great camp tool!
i bought a nested mug for the grayl ... i modified it by drilling two holes so i can hang it over a fire with the fish mouth spreader, ... just one more option
Seems like a good approach to a water filter. However, we frequently have temperatures below freezing. In those conditions, you can carry a sawyer type filter under your clothes next to your skin to keep it from freezing. Is this possible with the grayl?
so i can’t find this information anywhere does the cup fit the smaller model? i have the smaller one becuase it was cheaper but want to be able to use the cool cup thanks
Dave, maybe you know does the grayl filter out pharmaceuticals from the water? I’ve had no luck finding out the answer I’m hoping you can help me find out.
Inst it crazy how we use ww2 tech to suplimint the latest and greatest?? Btw thanks again Dave for making reliable gear that fits the needs of the outdoors and not falling to the tactical mumbo jumbo of the 2024 era
Personally, i think a grayle water filter bottle cup kit with a seperate 32 ounce single walled stainless steel water bottle is the best idea. Thats about how much water i drink a day.
For an individual yea you maybe right about it being the best. But what would you recommend for a group who sets up camp and stays for a week and they need to filter 5 gallons at a time for the group every two days?
I would argue that the Ultrapress has some advantages over the Geopress that are a bit more subtle but worth considering if you are using them as part of a system The issue I have with the Geopress is that it's a weird shape and capacity, at 24 oz. The Ultrapress being 16 oz is really nice for filling containers. Exactly 2 presses fills a 1 liter canteen like a Hydroflash or Nalgine type bottle, or even a military surplus canteen. Additionally, if you are using an MSR cookpot, the bigger 1.1 liter pot is filled perfectly by 2 pumps as well, and I bet the smaller 600ml one would be filled perfectly by only 1 pump. It basically serves to make sure purified water isn't being wasted. I just see it as a good idea to use the press in conjunction with a more robust canteen since it allows you to carry more water, and makes sure backwash stays out of the purification chamber of the Grayl itself, which is something I don't think everyone considers with this sort of system. Another advantage is the form factor. The Geopress has that weird taper, while the Ultrapress doesn't. A more subtle shape consideration is the fact that the Ultrapress is exactly the same height as one of those previously stated Nalgine/Hydroflask type wide mouth bottles, so if you have a backpack with those bottle pouches on the back, like a Duluth pack or even an old ALICE pack, or a couple of those MOLLE water bottle pouches, you fit the bottle in one, and the Ultrapress in the other. Any pouch that the bottle fits in, you know the Ultrapress will also fit in. The Ultrapress just has an easier form factor to work around They are small details, but I think the Ultrapress shouldn't be slept on for it's own advantages
Noticed you loosened the cap on the bottle , I figure it reduces the pressure you need to apply while pressing the system and if not why’d you do that?
What are your thoughts on the Katadyn filter? Used that years ago and seemed to work well. Thanks brother Edit: Not trying to refrain from ordering yours, just happen to still have in my Ruck, from YEARS ago, lol
Thank you for your support

Thanks Dave, we at Shawn's Adventures appreciate your entire life long contribution to the love of outdoors..
This grayl kit is precisely what ive been looking for. The prefilter bag is an good idea for better water and filter life.
Short, sweet, to the point with a load of info in a small amount of time. Down & dirty just the way we like it.
Been watching for years and thats what sets you apart…no nonsense 👍
The Grayl nesting cup is the beast of camp cups. Trust me. Even if you don’t carry a Grayl and you want a viking cup for camp 🎉
I am so excited to take your classes towards the end of the year. See you soon

Thanks Dave and all you folks at SRO.

I love how well thought out your products are. Keep up the good work!
I totally agree.
Having bought and used myriad filters over many decades, the Grayl with a millbank bag is the best system to date.
Straining or pre-filtering really saves the Grayl filters. Ever since doing so (I just use a bandana and a ranger band) my filters last way longer and stay easy to press down.
Have to say that you are a fantastic salesman, but it’s easy if the product is good and you believe in it.
Great kit option Dave!
Great piece of kit, very useful/life saving piece of kit!
Good stuff. Thanks Dave
Thank you Dave Canterbury & Self Reliance Outfitters for all y'all do, really appreciate it!👏
Of course, I ordered mine last weekend.
Ty Dave, Great deal..Great price..
PRICELESS info!

Nice gear should be an excellent addition to one's kit.

Love your work mate. Cheers from Australia.
Like them both. I like cooking on wood.
Looks good I have been wanting to buy one, Now it's time, Thanks.. Stay Safe out there.
Instant coffee, ELMT electrolytes mixes along with the millbank bag...bottle bag is amazing...use for the French press also... depending on the outing
Well thought out system.
Nice kit Dave as always cant wait to get mine
Pretty righteous cookware. What's the word I'm looking for? Elegant.
Thanks Dave
Great products Dave !!! ...Alan 🇨🇱
You nailed this one
Outstanding systems… gracias
Great set up thank you .
I have a grayl and the pathfinder swiss flask.
For the hunt i cannot complain at all.
I just need to invest in a Milbank bag, I already have the other components. I also already have the bedroll squirrel cooker, so good to go there as well. Gotta love Pathfinder products. Thanks for the video Dave.
What I to know is would this work in urban areas? Drainage ditch water, New York city puddle?
THANKS BROTHER , GOD BLESS YA 👍❤🙏
East Tennessee here, born and raised! I know of 2 to 3 water sources, springs that run year round. I know of a PVC pipe shoved into a bank on the side of the road that runs year round. Best water you'll ever drink.
Outstanding information
Got the squirrel cooker deal 👍. But water system was out of stock the minute I got the email 🤔
I love these gadgets!
Wow, I was about to get a grayl system too.. perfect timing!

So, it looks like I might be going to NC to help the flood victims, and an wondering about the chemicals that might be in the water.

And I just grabbed one from you guys..lol..

I use this exact system. Let me know if you find my gloves out there Dave.
Can you make a Milbank bag that doubles as a carry sack plz n ty!
so i can’t find this information anywhere does the cup fit the smaller model? i have the smaller one becuase it was cheaper but want to be able to use the cool cup thanks
Dave, maybe you know does the grayl filter out pharmaceuticals from the water? I’ve had no luck finding out the answer I’m hoping you can help me find out.
Hi Dave. My question is does the Grayl filter have the risk of freezing like a lot of other water filter’s when camping in cold weather?? Thanks Mike
What do you recommend for larger quantities? Like a 2L bladder.
I could not find either special either linked above or on your website
As stated in video stats Friday at 1pm
I don't go nowhere without my Grayl i carry a spare filter with me
On the site for the Grayl set shows out of stock. Is this going to be available at this price.
Inst it crazy how we use ww2 tech to suplimint the latest and greatest?? Btw thanks again Dave for making reliable gear that fits the needs of the outdoors and not falling to the tactical mumbo jumbo of the 2024 era
Do the Grayl filters themselves develop any odor over time and use? If so, can that be removed?
Thanks!
Just pounding content out. I love it!!
Cheers to the OG
What Carrier/bag fits this filter kit for storage and transport?
Personally, i think a grayle water filter bottle cup kit with a seperate 32 ounce single walled stainless steel water bottle is the best idea. Thats about how much water i drink a day.
How about away to distil the water to purify it?
Could you presoak the bag knowing your going to be at a water source
How are You going to prevent that filter from freezing?
For an individual yea you maybe right about it being the best. But what would you recommend for a group who sets up camp and stays for a week and they need to filter 5 gallons at a time for the group every two days?
Is the trekkers cook set still being made or the 21lh set replacing it?
Who makes that stove ya have in your tent?
Hey Dave, does the Grayl/SS Cup combo fit in any of the bottle kit bags you sell? Just got me one and was wondering?
Will these rotate back on sale in the future? This is the worst time for me for this to go on sale 😂
Don't see the kit - is it not normally available?

For the algorithm 🎉

I tried to buy the kit today and they are all sold out. Dang that was quick.
Still got too boil it to purify it?
Why do you make such limited quantities?
Already sold out 😢
You posted this Dave and every millbank bag is gone from Amazon within a few weeks
How do i order the grail?
Anybody use the Grayl for traveling to Mexico or 3rd world countries?
What are your thoughts on the Katadyn filter? Used that years ago and seemed to work well. Thanks brother
Edit: Not trying to refrain from ordering yours, just happen to still have in my Ruck, from YEARS ago, lol
Could you put grail information in the comments section? I couldn't find information on cost..
