    The one-way valve came installed on my new Geopress.

      Oh that’s awesome. It’s good they are adding those now.

    ok that is awesome, and I love the fact that I don't have to get a new Grayl to use those new filters. Most companies would require a new system all together.

      Yes I felt the exact same way. It was great timing for me too as it was about time for a new cartridge. I’m just glad they came out with this before I ordered the Gen 1.

    Didn’t know about the new filters and one-way valves!
    Those Pathfinder nesting cups are nice, have one for each of my Grayl Geopress bottles!

    I am thinking about buying the Grayl. I am a water plant operator so, as you might imagine I am pretty particular about treating water. In the wilderness I have always been a boil guy. Actually that is always my recommended method. If you are away from industry at least, where potential metals and contaminates aren't a concern. That being said I like this design. I would still carry a Unlined Kleen Kanteen for boiling and or to pour the Grayl into and then refill the Grayl.

      They have a titanium version for about $200 that would give me both options.

      @Hike-ALOT Yes, I just stumbled across that. It's definitely a great option. I am a Traditional Bowhunter. All of the benefits of hunting with a lot less killing, I guess. It has been several years since I Elk Hunted in the Rockies but, I think next September I am going to be back in the Rockies. I guess you are still satisfied with the performance and simplicity of this unit? Also, I appreciate your reply.

      @Hike-ALOT One other question. Because of filter going down so small my guess is that any mineral content would be removed, much like distilled water...not great for hydration. Do you have to supplement with electrolytes in order to stay hydrated?

    • @Hike-ALOT
      @Hike-ALOT  17 днів тому

      Definitely still pleased with it. I use it almost every week.

    • @Hike-ALOT

      I do supplement with electrolytes about every third bottle full when I’m out.

    I've been using the $15 Stanley Cook Pot for years with my Grayl. You have to leave the Stanley's plastic cups behind, but the Stanley with the Grayl inside will fit into one of WalMart's $5 Stainless Steel Cups, and as a bonus the Stanley lid will fit the cup. Add a Hot Lips heat shield (2 for $6) to the cup if you're a "softie" like I am.
    I'm cheap, $23 bucks beats out Pathfinder's $50 for me.

    Yeah. Been looking at the titanium ones. But im so hard pressed gerting rid of my titanium 32 ounce bottle with a nesting cup. For this. Your complaint is weight. And i myself looked into it and i agree... It weighs way to much still. Where there is other options that weigh less. Even with my other bottle compared to that

    • @Hike-ALOT
      @Hike-ALOT  15 днів тому +1

      Yeah the weight is a bugger. That’s why I only day hike with mine. I don’t mind it for 10 or 12 miles with only a few pounds of additional gear but to backpack with I just can’t convince myself the juice is worth the squeeze for the weight.

      Hope the grayl treats you well. I still use mine all the time. It’s been good so far. Yeah I see the cup is out of stock on the pathfinder site. Hopefully it’s back soon, they sell a ton of them it seems.

    Nice!
    Is it okay for the Grayl to be used/filled like a normal bottle, where I'd fill it with water from my home system before heading out the door, not through the filter itself, but through the spout?
    Thanks!

    • @Hike-ALOT
      @Hike-ALOT  Рік тому +3

      Yes and no. Yes if you keep it upright. No if it is packed horizontal...it leaks. Not a lot, but enough to wet your gear. I guess it wasn't meant to be a travel water container (unless upright).

    • @oldsoldier181
      @oldsoldier181 6 місяців тому

      @@failure2communicate2u So, I have had this problem in the past too. However, I just switched to the new filter with the one way valve in it, and have not experienced that yet. I have kept it full, upside down, overnight, with zero leakage. I have NOT tested it after filtering yet, but I will. I suspect that the leaking was from A) a back trickle from the purified water, back into the outer shell (which should be prevented now), and B) the newer filter part has a better rubber gasket seal to prevent leakage.

    Here in Florida it's hot here, and I'm used to using stainless steel to keep it at least room temperature or cool this thing is piss warm all the time

    • @Hike-ALOT
      @Hike-ALOT  Місяць тому

      Yeah it stays hot here in TX too. I’ve never minded the warmth though. I do appreciate when it’s cold outside that it freezes much slower than most containers.

  • @casper3130

    My grip is that the cup part slides up on the filter part and when I use my hook to hook it to my pack the filter part is hooked to my pack and the cup is just slid up on the filter part which if the cup slides off while I'm rucking the cup part is then lost.

    • @Hike-ALOT
      @Hike-ALOT  29 днів тому

      Which one do you have? I always just hook hang mine and have never had that happen. It typically stays very snug on mine.
