Which of these cars do you think takes the crown for being the absolute worst? Or is there an even crappier one we missed? Drop your thoughts in the comments!

My Uncle took me to work in his Reliant Robin once, a sweeping bend on a dual carriageway resulted in taken too fast resulted in a sphincter pulsing wild ride on two wheels with me screaming and his knuckles turning white as they gripped the steering wheel attempting to tame the wild beast. How we stayed upright and didn’t perish in a charred soup of molten fibreglass is beyond me. I got up a bit earlier and caught the bus the next day!

Shame about the SD1. Great looking, spacious and comfortable, with the v8 an excellent tourer.
But the electrical system was so unreliable you simply never knew whether lights or wipers or whatever would work when you needed them.
Sad, because overall I liked the car, but couldn't put up with it.

I wouldn't personally consider the Vectra as a british car since it's an opel

    • @richardhorvath4363

As far as I am aware, the Vectra was made by both Opel, and Vauxhall?

I am a fan of the much hated Allegro, the I had was a one owner from new, the old lady who owned it originally told me her husband offered the choice of an E-Type or the Allegro. All though it would have been quite cool to have owned the Jaguar, judging by her driving in the Allegro, I think she would have killed herself in the classic sports car. The Austin was infact a very reliable car. Only broke down twice, once with damp in the ignition, the other when the garage who "repaired" the car, hadn't, hence the front suspension collapsed. The Marina was a dull car which my father had. I think somebody must love these cars, but do go down the route of some American based UA-cam channel that talks rubbish about cars they know nothing about.

People poke fun at old Rangies for looking "too agricultural", but you could drive a tractor through the panel gaps on some of those Leyland cars, and it sounds like pretty much every subsystem on the Allegro suffered from a case of "moving when it shouldn't" or "not moving when it should" sooner or later... it has to be the winner. At least some of the others were quirky, and could perhaps even be considered charming in a retro "we see what you were going for" kind of way. I've also just now added "Should have come with an Apology as standard equipment" to my repertoire of automotive insults, ta for that. Fantastic video mate. Smart and well written script with some nice little zingers thrown in, well recorded and confidently delivered voiceover with no stumbles or odd mispronunciations, excellent example footage, calm and competent editing with nothing added that doesn't need to be there... definitely a lot to like here, subscribed, more like this please sir! And a merry xmas/happy holidays to you and yours, cheers from Sydney ;)

I had an Australian assembled marina with the E series 2.6 litre six that was the entry level motor for the leyland P76. And...not east west either. There were even a few homegrown examples of the 4.4 litre v8 jammed under the hood. In a straight line it went like hell... 130 bhp in a wee car like that. But in the wet? Leave it in the garage. Even so, it was a joy to drive and when it went troppo at least you could repair it. The mark 3 ford cortina with the 4.1 litre straight 6 handled worse, believe it or not.

I think it's the luck of the draw! I has a Marina van, that was good for a couple of years, but then the engine, more or less fell apart!

I had a vectra. It was brilliant. I got it for free. It could carry my mountain bike, my toolbox, my dog. I didn't give a damn about it. I washed the exterior twice in the four years I had it. The interior was kept clean but not the outside.
Considering I had been riding motorbikes for twenty years then decided to take my car test, a heater, windscreen and cup holder was wonderful. The only modification I did was get rid of the radio (Radio not radio/ cassette it was that basic) and fit a cd player.

1 Morris Marina, no better or worse than the Hillman Hunter,
2 Austin Allegro, my grandad had the top model series 3 1750HLS if you exclude the leather and wood Vanden Plas,
3 Reliant Robin well this being the iconic three wheeler, but the car it replaced was the Reliant Regal.
4 Triumph TR7 good looking sports car but unreliable.
5 Rover City Rover the most modern but just plain dull, even the 1980s Metro had charisma.
6 Sinclair C5 well you can dismiss this at once, it is not a car whatsoever.
7 Vauxhall Vectra was not much than a facelifted Cavalier, also an Opel but not exactly a British car built in Germany.
8 I have a soft spot for the Hillman Imp, and its Singer Chamois and Sunbeam Stiletto coupe sisters but unreliable rear engine
9 Austin Princess, early models were Austin/ Morris 18/22 series and Wolseley Six nice wedge shape but another unreliable car.
10 Rover SD1 the Princess's big brother, muscular and macho especially the powerful 3500, and like all BL cars unreliable.

Having owned and raced classics all my life, there are a few odd choices here (IMO).

  • @nigelcharlton-wright1747

The Reliant Robin as in Top Gear had it's suspension altered for comic effect. Back in 1978 I was in a back of a Super Van being driven over a hump-back bridge so fast that it left road, at no time did I feel as if I was going to die. The Allegro was not a rot box. The Marina's ill handling was only on the early 1.8 versions, which later adjusted. Later cars' handling was surefooted for an exciting car. The TR7 was the best selling Triumph sports car. Why is the Sinclair C5 included, it's not a car. The Vectra and Rover City thing were not really British design. The Imp was better then the Mini, and quality was much better overtime. The Princess and SD1 were quite stylish cars due to the unions killing off the British motor manufacturing for ever. Sad to see three Harris Mann designs in this miss-leading upload!

What a great list of dreary uninspiring awful terrible rubbish crappy cars but the best thing is the motor companies that made them are no longer around gone and forgotten mostly no body cries about there demise and most British cars are gone why they were terrible and we can thank that they are no longer around except for British Fords they are terrible today and Britain can't build a descent reliable car and they never will
