As an American I love the Cheesecake Factory too so don't feel ashamed it's a staple for us all
tips in the USA are calculated as your total x .20%
Why would taking the free bread home be a big deal in the UK? It isn't like they can serve it to someone else if you leave it behind. Better to take it than to let it go to waste.
@@connix69 I agree
Pro tip! Nobody ever has room for cheese cake after eating there but you order it to go and eat it 2 hours later at home!
Or for breakfast since they don’t have stuff in the fridge! 😂
Yes! It’s a tradition . Lol
EXACTLY! I always order the banana cream cheesecake to go and have it later that night.
Amen!
I do an app as my meal then dessert lol
Never, ever be embarrassed with having a to-go box or doggie bag. It's your food, you paid for it. Besides, the restaurant staff will just throw it away, so why waste it. The only thing I'm a stickler about when it comes to taking leftovers home is that I make sure I bag it.
I heard from another British UA-camr that it's a British thing not being comfortable with asking for doggie bags. Lost in the pond talks about restaurant differences between the US and Britain.
I think classism is more ingrained in their culture.
If I were British, I would say "did you want me to smell up the lieu or can you just give me a doggie bag already mate? Or would you like to hear how unhealthy it is to overeat?
The waiter probably would say "ok, you cheeky bastard, here's your bloody doggie bag mate. Just spate me the details."
Easiest way to calculate a 20% tip is just move the decimal then double it.
Like, if your bill is $58.83 you just take $5.88 and double it. $11.76
That's exactly how I do it. Multiply by 10% then double it. $78 bill --> $7.80 x 2 = $15.60
@@abcw114 I'm even more lazy: I move the decimal then round to the decimal to the nearest dollar and THEN multiply by 2.
$58.83 turns into $5.88. Round that to the nearest dollar, and it is $6. Then multiply $6 by 2 to get the 20% tip. If I feel like the wait staff deserve a little more or less, I'll add or take off a little depending on the situation.
@@katherinemurphy2762 Pretty much exactly the same thing I do down to the T.
But round up and make it even. It’s just easier on the server at the end of the night
See the tax? take it, round up, double it... there's your tip
Philadelphia in the middle of winter? Never would have thought this series would be this amazing. You guys made Philadelphia look like a winter destination.
The new spokespersons for Philadelphia Joel and Lia.
When I see tourists walking around in New York City in middle of winter, I think, "Cheap bastards."
@@MrSloika 😂🤣😂.
In the US, never ever feel embarrassed to take any food home that was on the table that you don’t eat. They will just throw it away. It’s better if you take it and eat it later. Nobody thinks bad about it. The restaurant also doesn’t have that extra organic trash to deal with.
I think it should actually be embarrassing to leave the food and waste it it's almost like being ungrateful for what you were given by God in a roundabout way.
They can't reuse the bread once it's on the table. You might as well take it with you so it doesn't go to waste.
my thought exactly and why would people in the uk be concerned about appearances if it's ok to get a to-go box for the rest of the food?? take the bread with as it is supposed to go with the meal anyway.
@@marksmith4892 They have a show called, "Keeping Up Appearances" for a reason. XD
I never understood that..u pay for the food .it’s not a buffet why shouldn’t u be able to take it home ..sorry on this one Europeans r pretentious and wrong
@@markchristensen23 *eyeroll* all of this comes from the class system that hobbles Europe. i forever want to live in a meritocracy. think about how detrimental it is to a society that the "upper class" don't put in any effort because they feel entitled and the "lower class" also don't put in any effort because no matter what they do they will be viewed as "less than". How stupid.
About half the time if you have a lot of left overs they legit just bring you extra bread to take with you.
I think that’s a pumpernickel bread but not 100%
Mojito mow-he-toe
It's not cheap at all! You paid for it, so put every morsel on the table into the to go box, including the bread. At Mexican restaurants, I ask for the chips and salsa to go as well! 🤣🤣🤣
The Cheesecake Factory is a very good restaurant with an expansive menu of good food. Don't be embarrassed to go there. Be embarrassed that you went there and ordered from the skinny menu. For the love of God, it's the *cheesecake* factory.
Haha no shame in ordering dinner from the Skinnylicious menu, but the point of that is to feel less guilty about ordering cheesecake, which they did not order lol
But yeah- If you’re too full, get your cheesecake to go lol
Lighting in Cheesecake Factory is always so low. I have to use a flashlight to see the menu. 😆 The “chocolate” bread is called Pumpernickel. So good.
Trust me. You’re paying for the “free” bread.
The brown bread does indeed have a bit of cocoa in it for color, but it's flavor comes mainly from molasses and brown sugar. At first I expected it to be pumpernickel, but it was too mild and sweet, so I asked about it.
I love the Cheesecake Factory!!! The food is great, menu is huge, drinks are good, nice decor and bomb cheesecake!! What’s not to love?
The food is "great"? The pandemic lockdown is over.
You really should get out more.
@@austinmiller5306 How positively pretentious of you. 🤦♂️ The food at Cheesecake Factory is fine. No one said that it was a Michelin Star, or James Beard award winning restaurant! You should worry less about Kat A. getting out more, and worry more about prying your head out of your a$$. How did you get like this??!! So you have never eaten at a McDonalds, Chick Fil A, or other restaurant that would be considered lower in stature than a Cheesecake Factory??! As a matter of fact, have you ever eaten AT a Cheesecake Factory?? Get over yourself.......
You know, Joel, in the US, "sugar" is often a euphemism for affectionate behavior usually a kiss. When the waiter leaned in and asked you if you wanted sugar, you should've said "I'd love some sugar" and let things go from there.
I never thought of that! Although, I think it's more of a Southern expression.
@@robertschwartz4810 That’s right sugar.
Honestly...yeah. Might have worked! You never know.
Everyone (well, most everyone) loves The Cheesecake Factory. I can’t believe you didn’t get cheesecake.
The Cheese Cake Factory is one of my all-time favorites.🍰
I love The Cheesecake Factory! Some guy badmouthed the restaurant but that’s OK. I’ve been in a lot of cheesecake factory restaurants and never experience what he did. So I guess it depends on the people and the restaurant. I love the fried avocado slices and they make a mean lemon drop martini. To die for. The absolute best. The food is consistent, the cheesecakes are consistent too. My ultimate favorite salad dressing is 1000 island dressing and the cheesecake factory makes it spot on. Just the best. I’d love the recipe. The first two rules for a good restaurant in my eyes? Fresh, high quality warm bread and clean bathrooms. The brown bread that they serve is delicious. Other people feel the same way because you can purchase the brown bread in your local food store. If they can’t get those two right, then the restaurant is NG, in my opinion.
I would always get cheesecake to go if you go to cheesecake factory. That wasn't really a Blizzard it was a typical winter snowy day in the US.
I absolutely love the beautiful friendship you have with each other. Blessings to you both.🌹
Their regular menu is HUGE. Try the avocado egg rolls on the appetizer list. It’s one place you always leave with take home food. I was sad when they discontinued the meatloaf sandwich. I could only eat half there. Joel they make a white chicken chili you might like.
We need to make putting bread in a takeaway container normal again
I just love the pair of you ❣️ (and your channel). Lia, I knew a girl named Eleni Hatzakis from the Greek church we both went to. Anyways.... You are allowed to love any restaurants you like whether or not they're chains. Do what you enjoy!!
I totally agree: if there is a chain you like in the US, why not go? We don't need reaction videos to EVERY restaurant you find yourselves in. Lol
Take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Blowing Rock is just 90 miles away, close in American terms. An easy afternoon visit.
I was going to say the same thing…Grandfather Mountain is a place I went to when I was a kid. Hairpin turns and views at the top.
Cheese cake factory was sent by the Gods lol! When in doubt when you can’t pick a place to eat, everyone will agree on the Cheesecake Factory
I can indeed get into The Cheesecake Factory. As has been mentioned, the trick is to order the cheesecake to go. I like the subtle ones: the banana cream, above all, and the tiramisu ones. They also have my favorite appletini. The chicken potstickers are great, and I love the wheat bread. And last, but certainly not least, their Classic Burger (medium well, with cheese melted on the burger) is one of my all-time faves.
You guys didn't take some Blizzard Cheesecake home in a to go box?
Love the Cheesecake Factory. Maybe that could be a new series. Joel and Lia visit every Cheesecake Factory. 🤣🤣🤣
4:55, Did Lia really just pronounce Mojito with a silent J as " Mo-jee-to😂
They did! I noticed it too. No Spanish.
@@tamifaulkner4103 Also, no Spanish. Yet Im glad Im not the only one who noticed, lol.
Lia, I think you’ve had the Cheesecake Factory Miso Salmon before, but if not, it’s to die for! 😋😋😋
I agree with both of you. Cheesecake Factory is one of the better restaurant chains out there. I’ve always had a good experience at multiple Cheesecake Factory’s.
Love a little bit of J and L when I need a mood boost. You guys don't disappoint. Hanging out with giggly friends and making up drama about the waiter. Fun.
Did you know your phone has a calculator? Comes in handy nowadays when you have to calculate a tip. We used to just take the tax which used to be 5% in Maryland and multiple by 3. But now I tip 20% and above and the tax went up so it doesn’t work anymore.
The original Cheesecake Factory started outside Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. It’s just a bakery. It started in the 1940s I believe and it’s still there. A couple of investors bought the licenses and cheesecake recipes then built a restaurant business around it.
Today it’s really one of the most expensive franchise restaurants to dine at.
@Spring Is Coming 🇺🇸 Oh yes. Have you seen their entrees menu? $20-$35 each. We don't do appetizers. We definitely take the bread home and order cheesecakes to go to eat later.
I remember going to one of the just built Chicago flagship Cheesecake Factory Restaurant at 17 in 2007 and it's on the expensive, chi-chi Magnificent Mile and in front of another top, expensive mall full of designer stores...but they've changed the mall/tower name a few times. We all carried our entree leftovers ans cheesecakes in bags whike shopping. And on the way back, I ate half of the large Godiva double chocolate cheescake when we took the train back to our home that is just right over the IL/WI border in the city of Kenosha as none of us wanted to drive amongst the maniacs in Illinois much less downtown Chicago where rush time, and it was December so around the holidays which makes it even worse, to drive down and find some open parking place that isn't full and are ridiculously expensive...like $20/hr!!!
@@kelseyk530 If you think the Cheesecake Factory is an expensive chain, you obviously have never been in a Capital Grille, or a Ruth Chris Steakhouse.
I was gonna be snarky based on the title but getting lit up in a blizzard is SO American that I respect your decision.
Love you guys and your positivity!
Aw, of course, we enjoyed it, we love watching you two doing just about anything, and who wouldn't love the Cheese Cake Facrory?
I really like both Cheesecake Factory's salads and their "chocolate" bread. It was recently announced that Lincoln Rd. in MIami Beach is getting one, and a lot of folks are rolling their eyes that it's a chain, but I am excited to get one that I can access by foot.
You can buy that bread in most grocery stores (Kroger, Meijer, etc). So you can enjoy it whenever you want
Another great one guys! We just love watching you eat, laughing, critiqing food, and finding Josés. Hahaha!
I think you should go to the biltmore..I know of a you tuber that took video of his visit with his family at Christmas time at the biltmore
Really like your videos so I subscribed.
Hope you'll continue to put videos up.
I really love british people their so polite.
Joel and Lia you are brave to visit Philly in the winter!! The Cheesecake Factory is very popular in SoCal (Orange County, CA) where I live and it is normal to take any bread with you to eat with your leftover entre at home. If you order iced tea or a soft drink with your meal they will even give you a refill to go at no charge.
Joel, you have an Apple Watch…the calculator on your watch has a tip button to make it easier.
It’s called brown bread and has a sweet taste to it. It’s now sold at our Kroger grocery stores.
Actually isn't it pumpernickel bread?
It's actually not called brown bread. As a long time Ccf employee (15yrs), it is literally honey wheat bread.
@@mermaid1717 No. It's a honey wheat loaf.
I don't know how you can go there and not get cheesecake.
I’ve literally never eaten cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory-like others say…never any room in my belly after lol I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Cheesecake Factory! It’s one of the only US places that makes me proud for others to try and not cringe. Enjoy! ❤️Much Love
The brown bread is called Pumpernickel (: It is DELIGHTFUL - glad you Brits love the Cheesecake Factory as much as us Americans !
Your series on Philly makes my home town look great!
That's not a blizzard yet - hopefully later you saw actual blizzard conditions? Bless your souls. You're both so great :)
Omg I LOVE Lia’s laugh!! 😂😂🙌🏼
Cheesecake should be brought home and served with a glass of Prosecco lol
I just found your stream today, 10/14/22. I have watched at least 7 of your videos and enjoyed them tremendously.
Next Joel and Lia visit Alaska. Btw The Cheesecake Factory is loved by most everyone. Glad you got a chance to try it out.
Going to the Cheesecake Factory and not getting cheesecake should be a crime! (No, not really… but, maybe. lol)
The free bread that you dont take with you will just be thrown out!! You are avoiding supporting restaurant waste!! Well done! 🤣
I know Cheesecake Factory is a chain but most Americans don’t hate on it bc it’s good quality. Lia doing the recreation of Blue Eyes into the camera 😂🤣 Fun video! I can never deny cheesecake and would’ve taken some home for breakfast. Cheesecake w coffee so good. ☕️
That gorgeous chocolate cake in the back - when i get that it takes me a couple days to eat it. So filling
Cheesecake Factory was famous (infamous) a few years back because their fettuccine Alfredo entre was about 4000 calories, or double the reccomended daily allowance for calories.
Wow!😯
Great Vid, guys. It's totally normal to box up the bread, and you can always give it to a homeless person on the way back to the hotel. The restaurant is only going to toss it in the bin. You can even ask for a refill of your soda or iced tea in some places to go... free. No one will bat an eye. Stay safe.
CF will split a piece and serve it to you with some whipped cream. All their cheesecakes are baked and all are delicious. You should have ordered a piece to go and asked them to cut it in half. That salad is not that filling.I love CF. There are two I go to two LA,one overlooking a harbor in Redondo Beach and the other a beach in Marina del Rey.
Cheesecake Factory Brown Bread...so good. Some grocery stores sell it as sandwich bread. It makes for the most delicious peanut butter sandwiches.
We love CCF too! There’s a CCF in Charlotte - so definitely go!!! ♥️
Cheesecake Factory’s tagline used to be “this is a bad place for a diet.”
How can you not !? It’s amazing.
Ages ago there also use to be a spaghetti factory they had the best seafood pasta dishes. 😋
I still have one by my house lol
Ages ago... yes it was quite the OLD Spaghetti Factory! HA~
*used to
There is still one in Louisville KY! I drive over an hour to go there !
Really!!! I'll go for sure if ever in that city
You guys sure have have a lot of fun
Lol, we order a loaf of free bread to go
Portion sizes are designed for leftovers in this country. I will usually take food home if it will heat up well the next day. Salads and fries usually don’t hold up well. But if I see there might be someone hungry hanging outside I will box up what leftovers I have and give to them on my way out.
If you want to leave a tip to make up for the starvation level wages of the servers, an easy way to do it is to multiply the amount of the sales tax by three and round up.
Over here, as you, no doubt, already understand, is that the takeaway doesn't mean that you're cheap, but that, as the saying goes, "your eyes were bigger than your stomach", i.e., you weren't as hungry as you thought you were.
There are two Cheesecake Factories near me & I love going. Visitors from out of town always ask me to take them.
the food looked great glad you enjoyed it
Avocado egg rolls are my favorite thing at The Cheesecake Factory. 😍
That sounds good. I love avocados.
I recommend that you call Biltmore and explain who you are and if you can get permission to film inside and outside Biltmore.
I’ve always wanted to go to the Biltmore at Christmas time. Sensory overload i’m sure.
I love you. Not many people go to Cheesecake Factory order salads and no cheesecake. Lol
Glad you enjoyed it 👏👏👏❤❤❤
Yummmmmmy, Cheesecake Factory is my favorite. I used to work next door to the original location in Beverly Hills, and we were so lucky to be able to go there for lunch regularly. 😋
Everyone I know in New Jersey LOVES The Cheesecake Factory. It is Always packed and lines out the door. So, it’s not just you guys who love it!!
I love that you love this chain.
Love you guys
I usually get the lunch portions when I go, the regular portions are huge and some foods don’t keep well. Usually Cheesecake Factory service is great. The dark bread is a multigrain bread, and you can buy it in loaf form at some US supermarkets.
Funny that you’re in the American north in the middle of winter… very brave! I love you guys! Eat all you can in the US we have such a variety and each person has their own opinion. Foods vary from state to state. I grew up eating east coast now I’m deep southern! All great! It is refreshing to see others’ favorites. And yes! Take home all you don’t eat especially since you’re traveling. American plates are huge anyway.
dont apologize for having a favorite chain. this is common between states too. our family from wisconsin always wants to get IN n OUT when they come to AZ to visit us
You should ask for another order of bread to take with you. LOL!
Cheesecake Factory is great. I’m glad you both enjoy it. Hope you have a good time in North Carolina. That’s were I am, Raleigh to be exact.
In addition to their wonderful cheesecakes - and yes, all those cakes in the display case are real- try Linda’s chocolate cake and carrot cakes! Delish!
Bread is always free and paid for. Might as well take it.
Lol y’all were too funny at the beginning , I said are they lit? Y’all were tickled pink
That free bread is not free and they will trash it if you leave it! Take it and don't sweat it!
Have fun!!!
I love my pot of tea & zero sugar cheesecake at the factory.
The bread is called Brown Bread at the Cheesecake Factory. It’s a wheat bread and it gets it’s dark brown color and sweetness from the molasses.
Hard to believe the restaurant is open with blizzard coming.
I've actually never been!! You had such fun you should go again on my behalf!! Lol🥰
Hi guys! That looks like pumpernickel bread. The only one I know that’s dark like that. Love ur videos ❤️
Y’all are f***ing awesome
Lol we just call the bread “brown bread” but it’s apparently a wheat bread to the company. Used to think it was a pumpernickel but it’s not lol.
Of the many corporate chain run restaurants, the Cheesecake Factory usually has a great variety of very nice meals. Other good chains to try would be Capital Grille, Claim Jumpers, Rock Bottoms and Bucca Di Beppo's (if you're in the mood for Italian food).
I'm a NYC boy, and I love Cheesecake Factory as well. I do try and avoid it since everything is delicioius and high caloried.... and I'm a gluten. So glad you guys like it so much.
Cheesecake Factory is not basic😀 My fav!
Loving the Philly series and the live streams from NC! 💜
Have you seen their entrees menu? $25-$40 each. So delicious!!! We don't do appetizers. We definitely take the bread home (as restaurants here are required to throw it out whatever you didn't eat lie the bread, or if at a Mexican restaurant, take the homemade nachos as they'll throw them out...I used to be a bit embarrassed to do that but I don't care anymore) and the insider suggestion is to order cheesecakes to go to eat later.
I remember going to one of the just built Chicago flagship Cheesecake Factory Restaurant at age 17 in 2007 and it's on the expensive, chi-chi, iconic Magnificent Mile and in front of another top, expensive mall full of designer stores...but they've changed the mall/tower name a few times. Come to Chicago. Or come to Wisconsin in summer or fall!!! Winter is fun also.
