That Macy's was the original Wanamaker's, which was the very first department store in the US! It's on the National Register of Historical Landmarks and Places. They still have the original pipe organ, the largest in the world and is still played twice a day. Pretty cool. No cap! (lol, Joel with the slang!)

@@ArchimGregorios That's cool. I have photos of sitting on Santa claus lap in Wanamakers around 1965. My Grandfather worked for Sears back in the 1920s to 50s, he did all the printing. When he died in 1958 he left my father Sears stock, and my parents paid cash for their new house in 1960. My dad use to brag that he could of paid cash for three new homes back then.

As for the Fahrenheit number thing, Zero(a reading 32 degrees less than the freezing point of water) was chosen as that was coldest that NYC had ever gotten and it was figured it would never be colder than that. For whatever it is worth had the freezing point of water had been set at zero (like Celsius/Centigrade) the boiling point of water would be 180 degrees.

Here in the US I think the degree being more specific thing is only handy when it’s close to freezing or really really hot lol.. Especially with driving, I factor in so many things when deciding if it’s safe to drive and knowing exactly what the temp is/was helps with that a lot but otherwise it’s definitely the sillier system of measurement lol
