You guys are adorable! It is probably the owner's child. There are labor laws in the United states. It would be highly illegal.
But children are allowed to work at family owned businesses. Because they're not really employees.
Oh no! Next time order a regular waffle, cut it in 4 while it is still hot, spread a little butter on each quarter, take the sausage patties and place them on 2 of the waffles, pour syrup and cover the top with the remaining waffle. That's a waffle sandwich. Eat with a knife if you wish. Also at lunch time, try the chili. I was surprised how good it was. Thank you for the video! Good childhood memories at the Waffle House
With all due respect, if you aren’t going to add butter and syrup to your waffle (like a typical American), don’t even bother. Stop triggering me! 😂
I totally agree. I would never eat a waffle without butter and a lot of syrup. Joel barely put any syrup on.
I know! It was so hard to watch them! And picking it up with her fingers! If it had the proper amount of butter snd syrup one would not want to pick it up. 🤣
Agree and they should have eaten them first so they were Warm and the butter would have melted.I wouldn’t have liked them cold ether.
Exactly!!! You said what we were all thinking 😄
They pretty much wasted my time with this one. I have no clue as to why they wouldn't eat the waffle with butter and syrup. That's like eating fried chicken without Texas Pete but then again I digress.
Waffles American style: Ladle on butter and watch it melt on the hot waffle, while adding so much maple syrup that it runs off the edges and forms a puddle on the plate under the waffle. See Joel triggered.
This.
Yes! This is the correct way to eat waffles! I love Waffle House waffles plain and cooked light with lots of butter and syrup. The best!
Don't forget the gallon of ketchup on the hash browns as well.
@@bdwilcox I agree 🤣
@bdwilcox in the south it's egg yolk and Tabasco. Ketchup is for fries only.
Used to be a tradition to leave the bar when it closes at 2am and we’d all go to Waffle House. The waiters and cooks there are saints for putting up with all of drunk folks constantly.
Same. Nothing tastes better after a night out.
It’s impossible to have a true Waffle House experience sober and before 2 am.
Drunks usually tip exceptionally well, or not at all, so it behooves them to treat the drunks well so they get the tips from the drunks that do tip.
Not to mention the occasional fight or shooting in the parking lot.
@@seizod can’t forget the hook ups. I can’t even count the number of times I have witnessed “passion” at the WH.
I hate that you both refuse to put butter on your waffles 😂😂😂
Looks like that's triggering all of us in the comments section 😄
Not only will I drown my waffle in butter, I will bring my own syrup. Alaga if you must know😂
Un-American.....:)
Thanks for this comment. I stopped watching the video.
I just don't understand why you Brits are so averse to putting butter and syrup on waffles and pancakes. It's so delicious. That's all you got at Waffle House because in the US we pretty much don't put anything else on waffles and pancakes. And we would have the waffle floating in syrup and butter. Yumm.
THANK YOU! MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!! 💯
Eeeeeew! Joel picked the worst one, Chocolate? Perfect for a 5 Year old
The best thing is to have a bite or a waffle or pancake with maple syrup and then a bite of bacon. Sweet then savory. Repeat until finished.
And for the love of all things holy put ketchup on those hash browns.
Oh goodness! I put whip cream and even fruits on mine if I don't go the butter and syrup route!
Whenever a major weather impact happens in the US - Tornado, hurricane, blizzard, etc - FEMA will try to figure out if the Waffle Houses in the affected area are open or not. If Waffle House is closed FEMA knows its really bad and they send in the support right away.
Really? That's amazing! I now want to travel to the South just because of this. What's the food like in Waffle House? It looks like standard Americana. Or am I wrong?
Waffle house food is good, but where I live at least (Eastern North Carolina) it's more of a staple after a night out drinking. Then the good becomes great. You may see a fight or 2, sometimes amongst employees. At my local waffle house, during the summer usually, there's a cop that's posted there. Not joking. It's not that it's in a bad area, just more for public safety when all the drunk ppl pour in after last call lol!
@@arnoldrivas4590 Very Standard!
I would suggest a Patty Melt, (minced beef and cheese) Very typical of a Grill, like Waffle House
The Waffle House index. I find it so interesting. I’m glad someone mentioned it.
Part of the reason is that the majority of Waffle House locations are in the southeast and Midwest - hurricanes and tornadoes. They have a sophisticated disaster recovery infrastructure and are often the first place to eat to open for first responders. Part of the plan is they have a "no electricity" menu they can make using only the grill which is powered by natural gas.
I don’t understand why you don’t ask the server how something should be eaten when you don’t understand what all the ingredients are for.
That "child" you referred to who was "working" at that Waffle House you visited was most likely the daughter of one of the workers there- I used to bus tables and help wash dishes on the weekends at a restaurant that my dad cooked at...I wasn't on the payroll - the waitresses would tip me a cpl-a bucks and dad would throw me a cpl-a bones...I ended up becoming a cook and a waiter for 14 yrs- I'm glad my dad took me along- it was good experience and exposure to a work environment. .....P.S.- butter is an absolute MUST on waffles and pancakes- and you always eat them first- while they're hot.......
the butter goes first on the waffle or pancake, followed by syrup. the butter keeps it from getting soggy when you put the syrup on
really?
i just did so it would melt before the syrup was poured
Children are usually the only ones who put chocolate chips on pancakes. Cold waffles with no butter and precious little syrup, eaten with fingers? No way any American adult eats this way.
waffle house is better when your either
1) drunk at 3am and hungry
2) hungover the next day 😂
💯💯💯
Lol Lia, the jam was for your toast, and you should place the butter on the waffle while it's hot, so when they first bring it to the table. Nothing as tasty as a pecan waffle with lots of melted butter and maple syrup. Thanks for taking us along.
Butter then jelly/jam on toast
Not a fan of Waffle House but you really shouldn't wait to eat your waffles. They are never great unless they are hot and Joel...butter on your waffles is amazing!
Where I live if world war 3 broke out we would surround and protect the waffle houses before the state capitol.
Agreed. It is like eating the french fries last. Fries only have a few minutes of life where they shine.
OMG you guys are like cavemen! LOL Hilarious...Watching you eat waffles is like someone who has lived in the wild all their life and then trying to teach them how to use utensils! LOL....Gotta love you guys. Joel you are a sweet tooth guy. This is your opportunity to smother your waffles in syrup. You guys can't be left to wander the States alone. You need an American to show you the ropes...Ha!
But they "know everything" because they have watched American TV. Just ask Joel.
Lia, I have a feeling you may never find a delicious cup of tea in the US. If I were you I would bring tea from home. You can still order a pot of hot water at any restaurant. Love you two brits! ❤
Pro Tip: The pockets on the waffles are made for melted butter! SMH, you silly Brits 😋
Hi Joel and Lia! We are Canadian and LOVE the Waffle House. We look forward to it on our drives to Florida so Joel, I'm surprised you have not been before. The people are always so friendly and the service is great. It's obviously short-order cooking and we appreciate that! I would definitely recommend ordering your hash browns scattered, smothered, and covered next time - makes them more interesting and it's fun to order! I adore the waffles with pecans, makes them richer and more complex. That is table syrup and most certainly NOT Canadian maple!! Just so you know! It's just a really sweet kind of restaurant that sometimes gets a bad rap or teasing, but as I said, we always leave happy and satisfied and that coffee is amazing after driving for several hours in the early morning! Tfs, such a cute video!
🤣🤣🤣 Joel and Lia, ya gotta spread the butter and syrup on them waffles (and pancakes) to fully understand why we Americans love eating them that way! ALSO, if you add a chicken breast (or in my case "chicken" fried tofu) on top of waffle & syrup it's DELIGHTFUL because of the sweet & salty combination
Waffles, like pancakes, are meant to topped with lots of butter and lots of syrup.
I love how Joel and Lia keep “messing up” all the food chain visits by ordering and eating wrong. I’m starting to think they are having a laugh about it just to trigger people. On the other hand, I would probably not now that you MUST put butter and syrup on it, and just eat it like that. Maybe ask for some Nutella, I don’t know 😂
I keep thinking this too 😂 Like they say "What would the American's do?", And then do the opposite.
Well, everyone eats different things their own way, but these two do have a habit of changing the food up and then complaining about it! LOL!
I keep thinking this too, and the fact that they don’t seem to know what the jelly is for, or the syrup, etc. Joel, your parents have a home in Florida and you all seem to go out to eat, wouldn’t you have figured it all out by now? 🤔
I think you're right. They really need an American tour guide so they get the best experience.
Also, Waffle House is full of old people cuz it's cheap af!
I like my eggs over medium. It's where the whites are completely cooked but yolks still runny.
"I bet she gets paid...in waffles." *CACKLE* I hadn't snorted so hard at that deadpan delivery LOL
Waffles, pancakes and French toast are meant to be eaten with lots of salted butter and a drizzles or two of maple syrup. This is much like scone etiquette-cream first, or jam-but both must be consumed! One wouldn’t eat a scone without it’s accoutrements! You cannot have waffles 🧇 dry!
LOL, I almost choked when Joel dipped his sausage in ketchup🤢... Nooooooo!!! Need way more syrup on the waffle and then mop up the overspill with the sausage... YUM. A little syrup is terrific with your egg and especially the hash browns, too. Pancakes or waffles without butter and syrup should be illegal... actually might be in some states.🙃
Never seen anyone eat waffles with just their hands. That’s a new one!
I must say that the ONLY way to eat Waffle House hash browns is "scattered, smothered, and covered." Likewise, waffles are only to be eaten with plenty of melted butter and maple syrup. We'll educate you yet on proper etiquette for Waffle House! 😉👍
Scattered and splattered
I have to have mine brown or crispy which ever!
@@pattpilgrim2168 - That's the "scattered" on the grill part of the recipe. Then "smothered" with onions, and "covered" with cheese. ;)
I'm wondering why they didn't do any "erd" with the hash browns.
"Smothered, covered, capped, country" is the way to go.
Y’all need to go to someone’s house and have them cook you a full American breakfast with pancakes and waffles etc and have them teach you how we eat them. Even Joel going to his family’s Florida vacation home hasn’t taught him either.
More syrup, you two! That's what the squares in the waffles are for, to hold syrup!😜
Y’all are hilarious. When she said chef lol
I grew up not even 1 mile from this waffle house. My elementary school was across the road where the grocery store is. I am glad you guys have enjoyed my hometown and hope everyone was welcoming and generous to y'all. God Bless!
Fun fact for you , Waffle House began in Georgia, where you can find one near every highway entrance/exit ( practically 😄) and there is a museum dedicated to the chain there near Decatur Georgia where I once lived.
It's a nice place to go to every once in a while, and they tend to stay open 24 hours a day. You will see many older people simply due to the lower prices and often very friendly service. Some, depending where in the South they are located,I would probably not visit, but most are just fine for an inexpensive family restaurant.
Waffle House is supposed to be a “greasy spoon” but you kinda have to pour syrup all over the waffles and definitely have bottomless coffee. Also the bacon and sausage get dipped in the syrup as well.
U can definitely get a poached egg...butter and syrup is an American must...and hashbrowns need to be "covered and chunked" . Loving this NC content and seeing you react to our way of life. 💜
You two are such good sports for wearing the hats. Nothing wrong with being silly now and then.
You can order many of the items separately. Good place for anyone needing extra proteins. Steak, pork chops, grill chicken breast.
Lia cracked me up with that hat. Joel is living vicariously through her "Try this. Try that."
Pecan waffles is Waffle’s House speciality. Savory waffles always come with butter. Chocolate chip waffles are a kid dish. Waffle House used to be a bargain place. No longer.
Only Lia can rock a Waffle House hat! xx
Ahh yes Waffle House ,where extreme violence can break out at any given movement .
Sausage in catsup, no, dip it in maple syrup. That's the wonder of savoury and sweet.
If you want extra crispy bacon tell the waitress when you order.
At this point I wonder if they do this on purpose to trigger us 😭
It's a good technique. It elicits replies.
Free tip: butter and syrup on waffle. LOADED hashbrowns.
Lia just needs to wear that hat all the time!! It just suits her.
Half and half is half cream, half whole milk. I love how Brits put butter on every sandwich but are aghast at putting it on a Waffle.
IKR?! 😆😆
They do love their Buttys
Its so funny to watch you stuff your face in Waffle House while implying its a bit below your station. That's always how I felt while stuffing my face in Waffle House at 2:30 a.m. in my twenties.
The amount of times I laughed during this video should be criminal! YOU GUYS PUT THE DAMN BUTTER AND SYRUP ON THE WAFFLES!!! IT'S DELISH!! LOL...
I love Waffle House! I always put Tabasco sauce on my hash browns though, can’t believe you were having them without anything. People usually do Tabasco sauce, sausage gravy or even just ketchup.
Lol. I can't believe you guys did a video on waffle house. It's basically for old people and drunk people. The only time I went was as a kid or when it's super late after a night out. I think it's just nostalgic old food that people go there for. It's not bad. It has its charm.. But it's not really known for quality unless it's the lack of it. Lol. Glad you had fun.
The big thing about the waffle house is sit at the counter and listen how the wait staff reads off the order to the cook... they say everything in kitchen slang to the cook
The "drizzle" of syrup! LOL That should be slathered in butter and drenched in syrup. I wouldn't like that either.
I have to agree with the other comments in that waffles are to be eaten with butter and syrup. To not do so is is an injustice to the waffle. I tend to ask for mine to be browner/cooked longer. Also adding onions to the hash browns is a must for me. Love Waffle House!
@@rbfoster Yes but they never do and they never ask their fans how they should order something or ask to order the most popular thing as it is usually eaten. Yet, we’re still here watching lol
Yes to butter and syrup, just make sure the waffles are warm or hot, which means dealing with them as soon as served.
I mean you can have other stuff on it too like jelley, jam, or honey The butter is fine but all that sugar or maple syrup in imo is too much now. When I was little I dumped it on though liberally.
@@rbfoster I didn't look to deeply into it.🤷♂Also I would and have done that. I've also known other people who have as well. Not sure why you think that's abnormal at least for health conscious people. People go to ihop and don't order pancakes even though it's known for it's pancakes. There's no rules says you have too though some may cry sacrilege.
@@rbfoster No I got it completely 100%. I was trying to very mildly say I completely disagree with the assertion that waffles need butter or syrup in order to do them justice. They are fine without adding butter or syrup provided there not the extra thick kind. In which lots of syrup and butter are needed.
America produces plenty of its own Maple Syrup. We produce enough for our own use and still be one of the top exporters
I'm a Californian who only recently tried out Waffle House for the first time, since they don't have any where I live. What blew me away concept-wise is that you can have all these different toppings on your hash browns! I never thought of that before, and absolutely love the idea. Fun video!!
I love how you two don't seem to know the "proper" way to eat things. It's so cute. Tabasco on waffles? LOL...Of course you put butter on it and it needs way more syrup. Love you two.
The best part about hash browns (to me) is customization. At waffle house, they have different slang words for each item. If you tell them you want your hash browns "smothered & covered" they'll come with sautéed onions & covered in cheese. There are tons of options & combinations. The "hashbrown slang" used to be on the menu.
I'm enjoying watching your visit to North Carolina (probably because I live here) But I live in Eastern North Carolina, closer to the beach. It's a shame you haven't visited here (unless I missed it)
Hope you enjoyed your visit 😊
Waffle House never closes so if you happen to see one that is, run for your life, something bad is going on! 😆
Ashville made their lips dry. HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The jam was for the toast. Butter and syrup on waffles always.
Lia in a Waffle House hat, priceless!
Love the hats,I love hearing your impressions of the food. You had a Waffle House experience.
ENOUGH!!! You two need a GUIDE! A “ Native “ American to show you the PROPER way to enjoy our cornucopia of cuisines from all around the world , not just one tiny island!
Glad that you went and it was a decently nice Waffle House. The customers and waitresses are part of the experience. It’s not gourmet but is a good breakfast place.
Hey! Next time you must try the chili cheese hash browns And the Texas cheesesteak melt. It’s the two MUSTS for deliciousness!
Lol drunk food..... We used to go there or Country Kitchen after the bars closed before we headed home. Lmao had to soak up the alcohol with the grease
Omg I haven’t heard country kitchen in YEARS. I do think it was better then Waffle House
@@bls303 lol it was better and getting drunk food was awhile ago for me.... Lol I'm well asleep before the bars close nowadays
Or Taco Bell which was open late…I remember those days, too! 🌮
Always eat the waffles first while they're hot. Butter and lots of syrup are a must.
ur speed sequence was cool! showed u2 and the place and workers!!😉👍✌😎
Paid in waffles - I almost lost it! Funniest thing I have heard all week!
Waffle House is known for their consistency across the country. Always good food. And yes, drown your waffle with syrup.
To truly experience the waffle house. You must go at 3 in the morning. LOL
Every waffle house has a group of locals who eat there every single day. Strange by true. Also, never go to waffle house after dark unless you to either get into a fight with local bar drunks, or at the very least, witness a fist fight between the staff and aforementioned drunk patrons. Honestly glad you made it out of there.
If you are moving or have moved to a new city and you want some tips from locals, go to the Waffle House if they have one, and sit near a group of people who look like they are there every day. They can tell you everything from good neighborhoods to good schools to the best grocery store.
I love Waffle House! I don't normally get waffles if I go, although they are good, but I just love the bacon and eggs. Their raisin toast with apple butter is my fav though.
The waffles at Waffle House are weirdly thin and sugary sweet.
I do same along addition of scattered hashbrown with everything and hot sauce. I love WH's scattered hashbrown. Sometimes, I will get t-bone steak instead of bacon depending on time of day or my mood for meat.
with that hat She looked like an airline attendant form the 60/70's
Waffle House is all about the hash browns and figuring out your toppings.
You need to go to WH on a Friday or Saturday night at 1AM. Pure madness and great people watching!
You all probably should go to these places twice. The first time eating as you think you should. The second time after reading everyone’s comments.
Tobasco goes on the EGGs not on the waffles🤦🏻♂️ butter and syrup goes on the waffles. You guys are hilarious 😂
And ketchup on the hash browns , if you like them that way
You need butter and WAY more syrup on your waffle! Waffle House is home away from home. It's not supposed to be the best food, it's just homey.
Hesitates to ask for a doggy bag (to go bag) but will put on Waffle House hats while eating at Waffle House. LOL .... y'all are too cute.
Waffle House tip: Always ask for warm syrup! It taste so much better on your waffle.
When I visited the UK (Scotland) and Ireland all the B&B's served us our eggs over-hard. I prefer over-medium but I tried to be polite and didn't complain. Is over-hard the custom with Brits? Love your stuff guys!
Y'all are hilarious eating American stuff!
Hash browns topped and peppered (with chili and jalapenos) are a must try at WH!
Gonna eat pancakes while I watch this lol
#1. Don't go to a waffle house and wait until your waffle is cold.
#2. Please add butter to that waffle while hot
#3. Add lots of syrup
This was so hard to watch. LOL. Love y'all's videos but wish that you would do a little research to see what that place is known for? Grits and over easy eggs mixed together and pecan waffles! 😍
In order to have the proper Waffle House experience, you need to show up at precisely 3:45 am. Bonus points if you are drunk as a skunk. The cook will be outside smoking and give you the side eye before opening the door for you and tell you to "gimme bout 5 min fam". The wait staff will be half flirting/half threatening to murder each other and it will be the best food you have ever had.
Scattered, covered, capped, and topped.
You guys always make me smile.😃
You guys should visit Busch Gardens Tampa
Half and Half is not at all like Semi-skimmed. Semi-skimmed means they've removed some of the fat from whole milk, thats what skimming is. Half and Half is a product made by combining Whole milk with whole cream with a 50 : 50 ratio.
Liberally use the syrup. Pancakes or waffles, pour plenty of syrup on them. Lia so damn cute in that hat.
I don't know if I mentioned this before to this channel but, if you mix the yolk from one f the eggs into your hash-browns they stick together slightly better and it tastes 'lovely' as the Brits would say.
I always love seeing new Joel and Lia videos!
Every Waffle House I've ever been to has someone smoking a cigarette outside. Also, they are very good at greeting guests when they come in the door.
I suspect that the latter issue is because they are understaffed.
I just wish that they had WHs in Minnesota.
BTW, Americans eat waffles and pancakes with butter and maple syrup. I've never seen anyone eating them dry like you guys do. Of course, tastes vary, but I'd encourage you to try them with butter. Butter makes everything better!
I love cigarettes Mmmmmm
Personally I find most large chains in the US aren’t that great. Smaller more regional chains tend to be better in my opinion though there’s a few big ones that are quite nice. I just feel like the smaller ones can focus on buying regional, fresh ingredients a lot easier than the big chains.
I know you are all watching your diets, but you could at least TRY a small section of food the way Americans do, such as put syrup and butter on the waffles.
FYI butter on waffles is a must!
I haven’t been to a WH in years. They are kind of a “greasy spoon”, but to be fair, I usually don’t eat breakfast out at restaurants much.
You’re killing me, Smalls!!! Butter. Syrup. Waffle. 🤦♀️
You two could fuck up anything!
I need to know if you kept the hats lol? Such a fun video! 😂
