Thanks Russell. I have gained some very good advice from you, Scott and Chrissy. All of your staff are very polite and answered all my questions thoroughly. Your paint mix matched up very well for me. I really appreciate you all.
This was awesome! I was literally going to my DIY booth to spray some primer for about the 2nd time and remembered that I’ve never really sat down and learned the dialin process. Thanks for putting this together!
PHENOMENAL video! About to spray my 1970 442. Been painting forklifts for 5 years but wanted the car to come out looking like a professional job. The horizontal run test was like a lightbulb coming on. Never thought to test it that way.
Good advice. I set my pressure at the air compressor's outlet but didn't realise the gun itself may not be letting enough air through so I'll try opening it right up. The manuals for these aren't great, they tell you what the adjusters are for but not quite what they do like you have here, thank you.
Great video. I've never heard about spraying the pattern horizontally to check that the volume is even. That's a great tip. I've had some trouble with tiger striping at times and I think this will be very helpful. I'm usually around 30 psi at gun with single stage acrylic enamel. Is that about right for that type of paint?
Fantastic informative video I was struggling, just realized my compressor is running at 8 bar should be at 2.7 bar 40 psi max. Do you have a video on clear coat? I had cobwebbing yesterday, so I gave up
one thing I did for my airless was get an old plywood plank and started to staple those free brown paper and cardboard from packages to it then I can tear off the paper as I use it and I don't have to "store" the paper
I have to agree with some of the comments, a short and to the point video great for beginners which I am too. Thank you. Did not think to pour some thinners into the gun and test the fan pattern before paint is used. A question though, will the fact that paint would be a bit more thicker than thinners will that drive the need to adjust the gun for paint or am I over complicating/thinking it? T
We usually use thinner when we have a lot of adjusting to do, like a new gun out of the box or after disassembling the gun. You’ll need to do minor adjustments when you put your paint in the gun as well.
Im still learning. I laid down some epoxy primer and it came out great. I laid down black urethane and it was textured! I probably need to mess with the knobs and also my spray tips.
There are a few possible reasons it would do that. Incorrect air pressure, wrong size fluid tip, incorrect reduction ratio, etc. Check your air pressure, tip size, and your fluid adjustment knob. If it’s non of those, it’s most likely a reduction or application issue. Hope that helps!
Can acetone be used as a cleaning agent? Planning to run acetone through my new gun. First timer. Have two fenders and a good to paint. Great video thanks!
We’re glad you enjoyed the video! Acetone will work ok but it evaporates really quickly. We recommend a virgin lacquer thinner to clean your gun after spraying. Good luck!
For the price, they’re not too bad. If you’re looking for an inexpensive gun, the best replica gun we’ve sprayed so far is the Avalon WLS400. Unless you’ve used an Iwata LPH400 for a long time, you probably wouldn’t notice the difference between the performance of the Avalon and the Iwata.
@@autopaintplusid4197 I have the Iwata Wider4 and some how I have damage the nozzle so im looking for new gun. I did order the x-2020 (85USD including shipping) Its an updated version of the SK-2020 you use in the video. I have seen the Avalon WLS400 and the split nozzle design looks cool and maybe I was just stupid that I wanted to give this gun a try
Your compressor should meet your guns minimum recommend cfm, if it doesn’t you won’t be able to keep consistent air pressure while spraying. We recommend a minimum of 9 cfm at 40 psi for the majority of hvlp guns.
You can get away with a smaller compressor if you’re spraying small stuff. If you get a smaller gun, like a 1.0 touch up gun, you would have much better results while using a small compressor.
@@autopaintplusid4197 Ok, I'm spraying small pieces of car leather interior like panels and seats, what kind of gun would you recommend? I'm using dye not paint, water based.
Best video I've seen so far, thanks. I'm spraying acrylic in garage for the first time and I don't want to waste any of it. Definitely going to spray some thinners through gun to set up before putting basecoat down!!!
Thanks Russell.

Awesome video. Russ knows his stuff!
Great video, no unnecessary filler. Thank you.
I HAVE WATCH A LOT OF VIDS ON SPRAY GUN SETTINGS AND HAVE TO SAY, THIS IS THE BEST EXPLINATION OF ALL THE OTHER. NICE VID AND THANX FOR THE TIPS
Thank you! We are happy to hear that we were able to help you!

Great video! As a novice, this is exactly what I was looking for.
Best video of set up I have seen!!!!🎉A++++++
Thank you! 🙏🏻
I really enjoyed this because I don’t know how to operate one and I learned a lot hmmm some. Painting in the future on the way he he. Thanks Russ.
Praise the Lord. I may be able to dial mine in now.

thanks so much forn this excellent course
Excellent Video... Thanks 👍🏻
Great video. Thank you
Is your air hose leaking air or what’s hissing
Once set, won't the fan pattern for straight solvent (thin) be different than when thicker paint comes out?
The fan pattern shouldn’t change, you may need to adjust your fluid a little bit though.
Lolol trying to make a good gun look bad very informative vid thanks
Thank you your video 👍👍
Thank you so much for the explain
We’re glad we could help!
This was good
Thank you 👌👌👍👍✌️✌️
So gread job sir thank you
Are the guns better when they are gravity fed or with the container below?.
Gravity feed guns are great because of their efficiency and delivery. They require much less air pressure so less overspray
Russell Lewis I’ll have to see what I have in the shed. I think I have one of each.
Thanks alot bud!!
What compressor are you using and does the gun cfm always have to match the compressor cfm or can you just get close to it? Thanks.
Your compressor should meet your guns minimum recommend cfm, if it doesn’t you won’t be able to keep consistent air pressure while spraying. We recommend a minimum of 9 cfm at 40 psi for the majority of hvlp guns.

Something like Iwata’s LPH-80 or W101 would probably work great.
Smart.
None of the videos ACTUALLY tell you how to set the gun.....They go directly to the spray...
Did you watch the whole video? It shows what each part of the gun does and how to adjust each of them. What do you have questions about?
Who are the 3 idiots that gave this a thumbs down?
