The problem for Journey on the Escape album is it's loaded with songs that would have been chart-toppers if they weren't competing with the rest of the chart-toppers on that same album. Just an extraordinary album, top to bottom. The range on it is incredible. I read a snippet from Jonathan Cain once that essentially said that if a band is good, it can go anywhere, and the limiting factor is the singer. Perry could sing anything, so they went everywhere. Critics didn't get it. But the rest of us did.
As I was listening to this analysis just now I couldn't help but think if Stone In Love was hurt by being on Escape. If it had been saved for say "Raised On Radio", would it have been a bigger hit.
Cain said that?! He must have been stoned!!! Then, he tells this guy that Steve was a great singer, or something to that effect. So, which is it, Cain?! Not that I care, because I don't...you don't have a clue. BTW, I wonder how Journey's been lately? Haven't heard much of the band on the radio or anywhere else, since Perry left. Except, the old ones when he was with the group. Hmm...
So true, Perry could indeed sing anything, so they absolutely went everywhere. That insane touring schedule shredded his voice sadly. It really sucks that no one seemed to be looking out for him. Calluses on your fingers are certainly different than those on your vocal chords!
These were the songs on radio when I was coming of age... they take me back to packing my 68 Pontiac Lemans with my buddies and running the roads jamming out!
I'm 52. I grew up listening to all of these bands. These bands and music have inspired generations of children to become musicians and in some cases, better people. Music connects us all.
Me and my woman have this argument all the time..she loves Perry and l had the blessed fortune of being an acquaintance of ..the "Golden voice of Rock n Roll" Brad Delp...his range and ability to record on a first take was unparalleled, but without a doubt l understand why Perry is considered by MANY to be the greatest.. he was THAT GOOD! and more than range it was Steve's style that really made him a favorite..that raspy smooth voice was intoxicating.
James Hill - they each had unique attributes that made their phrasing unique. Brad's amazing pitch vibrato at the end of words and Steve's upper midrange breathiness at the end of words.
I absolutely love "Stone In Love", but I have three more words for you...STILL THEY RIDE. That song has to be one of the most underrated songs in their catalog.
Absolutely agree. Perry's vocal performance on Still They Ride is true perfection. And equally epic is Schon's stunning and breathtaking solo right after "they rule the night". A masterpiece of a song. Top ten list rock ballad for me, and I'm 56.
I was thinking the same song before I watched this, I figured it would be Still They Ride. Although I do love Stone In Love, Still They Ride is one of the greatest.
“Girl Can’t Help it” is one I just started listening to again after thirty or so years. Just blown away by the music and the good memories it brings back of a less fucked up time, at least for me. Truth be told you could write down on a wall all their tunes, throw a dart, and nine times out of ten you’re hitting something good.
Girl can't help it, she needs more. He hasn't found what he's looking for. They're still standing in the rain. He can't help it. And she's just that way.
Good song but that album is crap. Lifelong Journey fan and I own every album. This was just....awful. I'll Be Alright Without you is the best on that album.
Raised on Radio was a truly underrated album. Went to see the concert in Long Beach. Seeing it performed live of course increases how much you like any song. Suzanne became a favorite that night. Loved the whole album…
Steve’s voice is an instrument unto its own! If he stood on stage alone and sang, you would feel the same energy and power, and be just as blown away as if the entire band was playing with him. Journey will always be one of my all time favorites, and every one of their songs takes me right back to the time I first heard it. A legacy earned and well deserved!!
Just to think, Steve Perry almost gave up on his career as a singer! His mother influenced him to continue trying (thanks Mom!). We almost never had a chance to hear his awesome, unbelievable voice!
What's the guys name Arnel? If you can't have Steve he is a great sub. He's got a great voice not to mention humble beyond belief. Steve retired greatful for Arnel for helping keeping Journeys live music going. It's so much better then the best cover band you still have Journey!!
Steve’s singing alone in ”After the Fall” deserves a video. The live performances of “I’ll be Alright...” and “The Girl Can’t Help It” (both with Randy Jackson) represent the best live band performances you’ll ever see or hear. The music video of “When You Love a Woman” is live shock and awe-it should have won the Grammy. Steve’s solo of “Foolish Heart,” footsteps included, is beyond belief. And then there is “Traces,” two versions, to bring you to your knees. Mein Gott. 🎶🎶🎶
Journey - is like the voice from the angelic realm. Faithfully - is a gorgeous song. Steve Perry - is a very special vocalist. The music is in my soul.
Oh man back in 1981 I was a senior in HS and Journey was my top band. Steve,. the sexy man he is, was Journey to me and always will be. His voice is above all others, to me!!! He has a range that is awesome and rare. Takes me back to those summer night riding around with my best friends with the windows down and Journey blaring!! Kids these days just don't have that quality of singers. They don't need audio nothing!! :) I think I'll go listen to Journey from the 70's and 80's. Thanks for the memories!
That summer I was at a different concert EVERY WEEKEND... Journey, Kansas, Styx, Cheap Trick, AC/DC, Doobie Brothers, just to name a few. It was an unforgettable summer.
I agree with you. Steve Perry is a phenomenal singer. He's definitely my favorite of all time. His heart and emotion are like no other, not to mention his range. I've been hoping and waiting for so long for a chance to see him perform live. It probably won't happen, but a girl can dream ❤️
Your homage to Steve Perry: you just translated everyone's feelings that none of us could articulate. Oh God, do I love him and do I love Journey. Awesome video, Sir.
Yet the other Steve , Steve Augeri doesn't get the credit for filling in for Perry after his Departure (see what I did right there?😃) Nor did Jeff Scott Soto who took over after SA had medical issues. I saw both, great range as well. Of course, Jeff sang for Yngwie Malmsteen many years before that. Arnel is okay, he is more of a Perry clone, even mimicking the "Perryisms" like flipping his hair. I just think if they wanted somebody with real talent they should of stuck with Soto.
Steve Perry and Neal Schon were magic together 🎤🎸👏 Steve is the best singer of the 80's, hands down. Journey was always my favorite band, I never tire of any of their songs and every single song is truly amazing. I love the blues 💙 songs like Walks Like A Lady and Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin' . Mother Father was definitely underrated and Steve just has a God given instrument.
Fourth of July weekend, 1981.... Journey is on top of the world with their #1 album, and headlining the Rose Bowl. We camped 36 hours before the show, and patiently waited through Aldo Nova, Triumph, and Blue Oyster Cult (AND the baddest food fight I've ever witnessed), to finally see Journey, and oh was it worth it! The place erupted as soon as Stone In Love began, as the force of the general admission crowd moved me 30 yards toward the stage with BOTH feet off the ground! My face was pressed against the back of some dude for what seemed like an eternity, but when the dust settled we were right there near the front, with probably 70,000 others rocking full force. Strangely, Don't Stop Believin' was not the album's go to at that time as Stone In Love and Who's Cryin' Now got the most attention... and both still do with me to this day... Epic memories... Thx Professor for digging this gold nugget out!
You described Steve Perry and his vocal talent perfectly! He sings from his heart and soul and we all feel it and are a part of it. For me, he is the best singer of all time. I love his solo work as much his work with Journey. I love his song “You Better Wait”! The music video is awesome!!! He is just a great entertainer. Thanks for sharing
I was lucky enough to see Journey perform live at the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles in 1981 and 1983, and Steve Perry's voice is one of the most incredible sounds I've ever heard in my entire life! For me, he's the greatest ever even to this day, and Journey certainly one of the greatest bands in history, regardless of genre. Thanks for the video.
The video of the band performing "Mother, Father" live is priceless. Journey's live performances are just as good, if not better, than the studio version! Steve Perry's performance of that song - LIVE - is phenomenal, amazing, spectacular... on and on!!! And Neal Schon's guitar solos are FIRE!!! Jonathan Cain once said in an interview that Steve recorded the studio version of that entire song in ONE TAKE! Here's the link to the live version: ua-cam.com/video/9IsAdOXDGAU/v-deo.html
Journey is one of my most favorite bands of life! Steve Perry is my number one male singer of all time. His range is phenomenal and his tone is as smooth as glass! Stone In Love is a trip down my 80s memory lane. Nothing like summer nights in a small town and falling in love!❤️
Unapologetically a HUGE Journey fan (my first concert was Journey/Bryan Adams, June 25, 1983). This is my favorite Journey song, dude! That is the most underrated bass line ever. GREAT video, POR!
Perry's performance in "Mother, Father' is SO outside the abilities of 95% of the best singers in rock and roll. He is in my top 3 rock singers of all time.
This has ALWAYS been to me the Journey song that was neglected it's true exposure! It is such a great song of emotional trauma and reaching out to get the attention of friends/family that I almost cry every time I hear it.I would of coarse listen to the whole album(Escape) but when it got to 'Mother -Father' I would turn it up even louder and replay it a few times while singing along. I have been a HUGE fan since my teens (I'm 54 and heard 'Lovin' touchin' squeezin' when I was in jr.high) and they are still in my top 5 bans of all time.
Stone In Love is one of those songs that you just crank it up and listen to those riffs and vocals. Gets me going every time. Steve Smith’s drumming on this song was awesome. The color on the bell is something you don’t get enough of today.
Absolutely fantastic analysis of the greatness of Steve Perry’s vocals. All of that power, but he never exhausts the listener or comes across as disingenuous.
My favorite is Stay Awhile. I was yelling that at a concert, and Steve took off his tee shirt and gave it to me. They didn’t play it, but what a trade off! It’s still my most prized possession.
Journey was pretty close to perfection. From rockers to heartbreaking ballads, this band commanded attention. I almost never can listen to them, because the emotions that exude from every song often leaves me raw. Send Her My Love, Open Arms, and Girl Can't Help It are Earth-shattering masterpieces that I reserve for times when I can afford to become a melted heap of saline on the floor for an extended period of time.
This song is an old friend. A good one. One of the best that Perry and Schon ever did, if you ask me, and the power behind it is incredible. STONE IN LOVE is a memory of good times and happy memories... something we don't ever want to forget.
@@curtvogue5720 back in they're heyday no one really gave hime the props he deserved. If anyone spoke of journey they only spoke of Steve Perry. He's top 5 all time easily
"Send Her My Love"... that song comes and rises so deep from the soul and Neal's solo is so alluringly... sad but optimistic at once. You should talk about that song.
I've got to agree. "Send Her My Love" is one of my top Journey favorites and the guitar solo is just icing on the cake. I can still think only of one girl from my 20's when I hear it.
This was actually a very big hit at the time, and it was one of the handful of songs from Frontiers for which the band released videos. I don’t know how high it charted, but it was definitely not a sleeper (just like Stone In Love was not a sleeper either!).
Hard to Believe this Song was not a hit for Journey at the time Escape was released. But who cares , as a fan I absolutely love it. The music, the sentiments, and, of course, Steve Perry's emotionally evocative voice bringing all alive for us! Thank you Professor for bringing it all to light!
My first time watching your show, and you showcase the absolute best band ever...Journey! All members are masters in their own right...Steve Perry is at the top of my list. He is The Voice.
Steve Perry always struck me as just a genuinely good guy, and he still does. Journey isn't right without him. Arnel is good, but he'll never be as good.
Journey and Loverboy, my first concert of many, many. I was 13 years old! Found an old newspaper clipping of it the other day. 1981. The best rock and roll EVER!
It kind of freaks me out, the darkness I felt as a teenager comes back to haunt me LOL. Not, beautiful song. Perfect and minimal. Later Eighties stuff tried to fill up so much space on songs, people forgot how to be chill.
Those and a few others on Infinity, Evolution and Departure were duets with Greg Rollie, the original singer. Totally different singers, but they really complimented each other. Rollie has done some recent performances of old Journey classics that are really good .... find on UA-cam (without Perry, but a couple are with the other Journey Steve singer from the 90s).
Steve Perry legendary vocals with Neil Schon Guitar is absolutely magic….” Stone in Love” no doubt should have been bigger. That being said it’s on classic rock radio daily. Good suggestion for you professor..” party’s over” extra track. One of my all time favorites. Love to hear more about that song. Love the show. Never miss an episode
Yes, and although Pineda apparently does a good job, Journey is nothing to me without Steve Perry. Journey, then, was an experience, and I just cannot get into Journey 2.0. When Perry left, my heart for any new Journey music went with him.
Agree. Also "Mother, Father" was an absolutely incredibly dark underlooked gem. In fact, that whole record was absolute perfection. I had to buy 4 cassettes as mine would eventually wear out!
My brother wakes up thinking of Stone In Love!! He says it just stays in his mind, and why not? When I hear it I just wanna get up to sing it and dance around like a fool! If you're feeling down, play this song and I guarantee you'll have a smile on your face by the end of it! I've been a Journey fan for 40 years, and I still feel the need to crank up their songs and sing along to the top of my lungs, just like I did when I was 15!!
A core memory for me is driving with my kids in the back seat when they were 7 & 8 years old. I was jamming to this song and I looked in the rear view mirror and see both of them singing this song with all the passion they had in their little selves. I love when your shows bring back these wonderful memories ❤❤❤
In the summer of ‘81, I was 15 years old and I was head over heals in love with the girl of my dreams. We literally listened to this rock classic by the train tracks. A few years later I married that gal and we have been together for 36 years married and almost 40 as a couple. This album, and that song, are literally the soundtrack to my youth.
Bii Schrader your a lucky man, I think we all had that plan with our first LOVES. These songs are a rollercoaster of memories and emotions, mostly bittersweet. As Archie and Edith said THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!
After I listened to “Journey Captured” I was never the same......for me it was a musically transcendental moment. What an incredibly talented bunch of guys.......saw them when Steve was still the lead singer and JC was on the keyboards.
I agree with you. Steve Perry's voice was as good as Freddie Mercury's, totally different of course, but just as brilliant and beautiful as Mercury's. Perry could hit notes that no one else could. "Stone In Love" has always been one of my favorite songs. My 22 year old nephew started blasting the song in his car just yesterday and it made me so happy that someone so young discovered, on his own, one of the best rock songs ever!
Best male Rock Singer ever. I've ben a fan since '78. When the song "Lights" aired, it really hit home for us (my siblings and I). Because we lived on the east side of the City, facing the Bay. When we got up for school, right outside our widows facing east, we'd actually see the street lights shut off and we'd see the golden reflection of the Sun, reflecting on the water in the mornings. Candlestick Park was just south of our bay window views. Anyway, since that was a part of each day, when "Lights" aired, it really hit home. My 1st Journey concert was during the "Escape" tour, summer of '82; I was 14. It was held at Oakland Coliseum/Stadium where the Raiders resided. I've seen close to about a hundred concerts since then and to this day, that show was one of the very best ever, like in the top 3. Thanks, for posting a great video with great interviews. -Steve G., Engineer, S.F., CA., USA

So true, Perry could indeed sing anything, so they absolutely went everywhere. That insane touring schedule shredded his voice sadly. It really sucks that no one seemed to be looking out for him. Calluses on your fingers are certainly different than those on your vocal chords!
If there was ever a song that within three seconds in brings me back to my early teenage years it "Stone In Love". Absolutely killer song.
Absolutely amazing song. My favorite Journey song!
Ivan Lendl Sam’s here, especially on Summer eves with the roof open, windows down and my Bose speakers singing to the world.
Hey man good job taking out McEnroe in the '84 French Open final. That bigmouth deserved it.
Right from the first chord.
Ivan you were a BEAST back in the 80's
I feel like " Stone in Love" Is one of the best songs ever.
Yes! 100% agree.
I'm right there with ya.
It is the healer and the doctor.
Journey’s my favorite rock band of all time! No one can touch Steve Perry’s vocals!
yep agree
Steve Perry is great but check out Journey pre Infinity too. Stone in love was played a lot in Houston radio.
100% agree
Big facts
they rule the night
My favorite Neal solo. The Houston concert solo was just as sweet.
Fact
Girl can't help it, she needs more.
He hasn't found what he's looking for.
They're still standing in the rain.
He can't help it.
And she's just that way.
Good song but that album is crap. Lifelong Journey fan and I own every album. This was just....awful. I'll Be Alright Without you is the best on that album.
Raised on Radio was a truly underrated album. Went to see the concert in Long Beach. Seeing it performed live of course increases how much you like any song. Suzanne became a favorite that night. Loved the whole album…
Great great great great song.....period.
One of my most favorite Journey songs was Faithfully. You could feel Steve’s soul being poured out in those words. Beautiful.
For me, it's his last love song in Journey he ever sang, When You Love A Woman.
@@mylovesongs2429 That orchestra certainly doesn't hurt any either.
Stay Awhile is the one that still stops me in my tracks. Steve's voice just brings me to tears. It's so intense.
Yeees! My favorite too!💖
lol
Yep! I love that song! And, Too Late.
One of my favorites, reminds me of an old girlfriend 😔
The live version from "Captured" is the best
OMG! The whole Escape record is iconic!!! Best. 80K. Ever. Spent.
"Who's crying now" is a perfect song with a phenomenal ending.
My favorite Journey song. I'm right there with you on the ending. That guitar solo is so "simple" but perfect.
100% love it!
The guitar solo is always awesome and the opening piano is what makes it my favorite Journey ballad
No one, in any era, touched my soul with their voice like Steve Perry. I was “Stone In Love”!!❤️
Steve was Journey pure and simple.
"Ask the lonely" is always forget but still remain a masterpiece
ThunderSA I forgot about that one. Great tune!
That is another awesome Journey song.
Only the young is a great song also imo I believe in was part of the Vision Quest soundtrack
Favorite Journey tune, and Neil's solo is killer
AGREED 👍
Just to think, Steve Perry almost gave up on his career as a singer! His mother influenced him to continue trying (thanks Mom!). We almost never had a chance to hear his awesome, unbelievable voice!
One of those great twists of fate so to speak. We are all blessed to hear him keep singing.
Nice. Didn't know. Wonder how many other talented people in sports, music etc had noone to give them that push that we could have seen/heard😢
There’s no Journey without Steve Perry. “Girl can’t help it” is another underrated song
Yeasss! I agree with both these points, 💯 truth!
I agree Steve gave Journey their boost into mainstream success. I disagree with those who say Journey ceased to exist when he left.
Kevin M. Agreed! But it’s truly never been the same, or as good. You need them all to round out the magic✨
New Journey is a Journey cover band.
What's the guys name Arnel? If you can't have Steve he is a great sub. He's got a great voice not to mention humble beyond belief. Steve retired greatful for Arnel for helping keeping Journeys live music going. It's so much better then the best cover band you still have Journey!!
I'll be alright without you is one of the most underrated Journey songs ever.
My second fav Journey song after Dont Stop Believin
@Craig's Videos , yes it sure is
Yep! Great tune! :)
Right, I don't understand why that song hardly gets any airplay its always been my favorite Journey song
I'm 17, and have been listening to them since 15, they're my favorite band
Mother Father...Steve is just stunning doing that song. The video of it from the concert in Houston is incredible.
Mein Gott. 🎶🎶🎶
After the Fall is one of my favorites, too.
Girl can't help it. The video version shot this song from 'ok' to my absolute favorite Journey song.
Steve’s vocals was a performance in its self, that combined with his showmanship is what puts Steve above the rest 🙏🙏🤘
Steve Perry has been called the voice for a reason!
Journey - is like the voice from the angelic realm.
Faithfully - is a gorgeous song.
Steve Perry - is a very special vocalist.
The music is in my soul.
I must say, this generation has missed out on the artistry of the album covers. Journey never disappointed.
Thanks for another awesome installment 🎸
.....that's 'Kelley & MOUSE' for ya ; )
Oh man back in 1981 I was a senior in HS and Journey was my top band. Steve,. the sexy man he is, was Journey to me and always will be. His voice is above all others, to me!!! He has a range that is awesome and rare. Takes me back to those summer night riding around with my best friends with the windows down and Journey blaring!! Kids these days just don't have that quality of singers. They don't need audio nothing!! :) I think I'll go listen to Journey from the 70's and 80's. Thanks for the memories!
Absolutely 1981 was my Sr. Year also 🌈 Classic memories 💎
@@depaola63 True!! Back when music was music!!! Nothing compares to it today!
Here here 👍😁
IMO Journey isn’t Journey without Steve Perry.
Always loved Journey, but agree, Journey isn't Journey without Steve Perry. One of my dying wishes is to meet him! Janet here, not Keith, haha!
Exactly
I agree.
I'll see them with or without Steve. Just saw them in Philly.
"Mother, Father" should have been a smash hit. My absolute favorite song from Journey.
Great tune!
Dean blows it out of the park with Journey Through Time give a listen and prove me wrong.🎶🎶
Should've left after BOC
There is no Journey Without Steve Perry. Girl Can’t Help It should also be a big Hit!
“Girl can’t help it” is so, so good😊.
Could not agree more. He was just impressive! Sam Cook influenced him……….
Raised on Radio is one of my favorite albums of theirs. The whole album is great
Steve sang Mother Father in one take.. ONE TAKE.. WOW THE VOICE
one of the most difficult song of Journ-NO, OF ROCK HISTORY :") w-o-w indeed, beyond wow
The only other singer that I know that can do a song in one take and that's Freddie. You can't compare them just like apples and oranges!!!
He's the true god of rock.
And talk about an instrumental ending to a song...still breaks my heart to this day
You described Steve Perry and his vocal talent perfectly! He sings from his heart and soul and we all feel it and are a part of it. For me, he is the best singer of all time. I love his solo work as much his work with Journey. I love his song “You Better Wait”! The music video is awesome!!! He is just a great entertainer. Thanks for sharing
"You Better Wait" is a beautifully sung song and a great groove, but lyrically it always made me cringe.
Sweet and Simple. Steve hits that GREAT high note.
It always makes me stop whatever I'm doing... It's what I like to do, indeed!
Dang, you stole my thunder! ‘It’s what I like to do!”
@@PopslovesAU That line says it all... Such a high point in a song : ) Hell yeah!
Listening to that on my buddies brother's 8 track tapes...still gives me goosebumps on my neck to hear Steve Perry let it rip!!!
Solid album, start to finish. Loved "Mother, Father" too.
In one take??? Holy crap.
Though I get laughed at, THAT is my favorite Journey song.
One take is incredible!!!!!!
I always thought "Mother, Father" was a ripoff of "Wild World" until I learned those progressions were all over music history.
Soul+power+range= Steve Perry.
Totally agree!!
The saddest thing is that he doesn't have the recognition he deserves.
StevePerry is the shit! The most Amazing voice ever!!!
HAVE LOVE JOURNEY FOR EVER!!!!!!
"Escape": one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
Amen to that!
I saw Perry solo around 1995 in an arena. Loudest rock show I've ever attended and I've been to many. It was amazing
Bobby Alcott Bryan Adams put on a great show too! Had to have been a great night.
I saw them and Bryan Adams during that tour too in May '83 at Brendan Byrne Arena in East Rutherford, NJ. Then Styx in July '83, same arena.
Bobby, same here around same time in Minneapolis, MN. Adams in his white oxford shirt and jeans. Fantastic concert!
I saw that show in Phoenix. It wasn't my first, but one of the very best! Rock on, brother!
Agree with you-Steve Perry has the most amazing voice!! His range was mind blowing ,able to hold a note forever too💓
Listen to Brad Delp ...
@@joelcybyske2461
Tommy Shaw and Dennis DeYoung are great as well, and Steve Walsh from Kansas.
Perry's performance in "Mother, Father' is SO outside the abilities of 95% of the best singers in rock and roll. He is in my top 3 rock singers of all time.
Especially that falsetto at the end!
The vocal harmonies, man... SO Journey...
The way Perry’s vocals begin on this song after that note... amazing!
THAT is the real “hidden gem” on the album. “Stone In Love” was a gem in plain sight, very well-known.
I'll be alright without you is another one of my favorites no one talks about.
"Why Can't this night, go on forever" should have been massive. Steve is UNBELIEVABLE in this song.
My favorite Journey song
K. And, I TOTALLY agree with you!
100%. Those vocals and the lead guitar!!!
Agree100%
Agreed! "Why Can't This Night Go On Forever" was the final slow dance song (and 2nd to last song overall) for my wedding reception.
There's so many underrated Journey songs: Send Her My Love, I'll Be Alright Without You, Be Good To Yourself, Ask the Lonely
Great list.
All of those are fantastic, classic songs. Add After The Fall as well.
Still they ride
But all those songs were hits.
Bryan Adams is a must see live artist.
Steve Perry is Americas treasure hands down
My favorite is Stay Awhile. I was yelling that at a concert, and Steve took off his tee shirt and gave it to me. They didn’t play it, but what a trade off! It’s still my most prized possession.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Loved being a kid in 80s. Journey rocked
In the 80's, life rocked. But could also be a rocky journey at times. Luckily, we had ... Journey !
I loved it too
Loved being in college then. Best music best concerts and best bars and dance halls.
Well said.😥
When You Love A Woman leaves me raw. The last Album they made with Steve. They won a huge award for that one. They should have won many more.
Well put
Idem. Faithfully and Send Her My Love... I'm addicted to those songs.
My favorite. Mother, father. The melody, the words, and Steve Perry singing is stellar!
This song is an old friend. A good one. One of the best that Perry and Schon ever did, if you ask me, and the power behind it is incredible. STONE IN LOVE is a memory of good times and happy memories... something we don't ever want to forget.
Neal Schon was such an underrated guitarist.
He's still alive
I wouldn't say that... Neal gets loads of props, all well deserved.
@@curtvogue5720 back in they're heyday no one really gave hime the props he deserved. If anyone spoke of journey they only spoke of Steve Perry. He's top 5 all time easily
People don’t realize this guy played guitar at Woodstock for Santana when he was 16 years old.
@@brianthomas5260 most can't get past Perry's voice. & I get it, he's the greatest vocalist ever. Imo. But Schon is pretty awesome in his own right.
"Sad but optimistic" is a precise description. Musically, that song takes you on an emotional ride for sure.
@@00gt5speed
Thanks; and I can feel that very same emotional ride with "Who's Crying Now" and "Faithfully"
@@aaxmym
Yeah... similar memories that song brings to me. And I was also in my 20's.
YES!!!
Send Her My Love is another song that could of been a chart topper.
Should have been
This was actually a very big hit at the time, and it was one of the handful of songs from Frontiers for which the band released videos. I don’t know how high it charted, but it was definitely not a sleeper (just like Stone In Love was not a sleeper either!).
One of their best ballads 🤙
Troubled Child was a great song that was hardly ever played in concert.
YES!!!!
Steve Perry's vocals always want me asking for more!! He is amazing!
It’s sad they couldn’t work things out.
Karen Lovett I agree Karen. Arnel Pineda is great karaoke, but Steves the real deal.
Sadly Steve has said that he can't hit the high notes like he did that made so many hits.
Gregg Rolie was there best singer
Tony Slicer Steve Perry was THEIR best vocalist.
Journey and Loverboy, my first concert of many, many. I was 13 years old! Found an old newspaper clipping of it the other day. 1981. The best rock and roll EVER!
Who’s Crying Now is a night driving reminiscing song.
The Solo by Neal in that song is Spectacular 🙌
@@Purplenpinkk I love playing this solo too and extending over the chord progression. Yes I have seen lots of live clips of it as well.
This is my favorite Journey Song
It kind of freaks me out, the darkness I felt as a teenager comes back to haunt me LOL.
Not, beautiful song. Perfect and minimal. Later Eighties stuff tried to fill up so much space on songs, people forgot how to be chill.
@@j_freed umm yeah
Of all rock groups, Journey still has the potential to have their entire rock catalog of songs gain hit status, new listeners are born daily.
Early Journey tune: “Feelin that way/ Anytime”. 2 songs in one. Incredible song. I’d love to hear the story behind that one.
That’s exactly what I was thinking.
My favorite
Yes c:
Steve Perry legendary vocals with Neil Schon Guitar is absolutely magic….” Stone in Love” no doubt should have been bigger. That being said it’s on classic rock radio daily. Good suggestion for you professor..” party’s over” extra track. One of my all time favorites. Love to hear more about that song. Love the show. Never miss an episode
As someone who saw Journey from the front row on the Escape tour, everything you said about Perry's singing is true.
Agree on the incredible talent of Steve Perry. Unsurpassed in my opinion
Cassettes how I hated them
@@brianpeters7847 What? You mean you didn't LOVE hearing songs speed up and slow down, and hiss and have no dynamic range and no bass response???

I guess they were better than 8 tracks..
But not much
I assumed when I saw this title in my feed he was going to be talking about Mother Father, it’s such an amazing song.
Really liked Dead or alive also
My brother wakes up thinking of Stone In Love!!
Stone In Love wasn't a hit? I'm very surprised. One of my favorite songs.
Gets a lot of air play on the radio even to this day so IMO that qualifies as a hit, regardless of how it did on the charts.
Yeah, how the fuck is it not famous, 😮THAT’S MY FAVORITE SONG
Omg couldn’t agree more on Steve Perry! Can’t wait for that video. Plant and Mercury are his only peers, but he’s number one in my book
Jihavoh Of the three...yes...Steve Perry has all the qualities needed for a well rounded lead singer. Plant would be my second choice.
Jane Beatty Yes! It’s Perry, Plant, then Mercury.
Steve Perry is awesome! My favorite!
Steve Perry is a vocal god. Right up there with Freddie and Paul Rodgers.
Paul Rodgers is incredible live
Warms my heart to see Paul Rogers getting some love! One of my favorite singers of all time!
I know ‘Girl Can’t Help It’ was from Raised On Radio, but I always felt that one should’ve been bigger. It’s just a GREAT song!
Agree... LOVE the harmony at the end...
The harmonies on that sing are incredible
I mean on that song

RoR is probably my favourite Journey album tbh.
Even in Ireland journey made an impact when I was a kid. I listened to journey, Boston, survivor, foreigner. Alongside more Uk based acts like queen, led Zeppelin, the who, pink floyd. Journey were such a talented band. Every single member was a force.
