I'm a 68 year old grandma now, but the 29 year old me is still in love with this 31 year old Steve Perry....Ahh...but that was another life. Listening to him still makes my day and I think, gosh, I'd love to make him dinner. (that's the 68 year old me).
I'm 56 and Steve is still the man of my dreams
You’d still do him 🤣
@@stevenrandolph1654 _hella yeah_ 😁
I too am 68 ... I was in an Attack Squadron based out of NAS Lemoore, CA ... I believe it was '88/89 ... we held a squadron function at Rubi Calva's a restaurant just outside Hanford, CA ... When we arrived, I was astounded to see a person sitting at the bar who looked exactly like Steve Perry. Long story short ... it was him ... he bought us a round. We invited him in ... he graciously refused. He is a saint! He had returned to his home to look after his Mother ... a native Lemoore-on. Steve ... I was once asked if I would be caught dead listening to Journey while driving my Corvette? Hell yea! Journey rules! Biden can suck it!
_kool_
The 80’s. Can never be matched or repeated musically.
No freaking autotune, vocal rings like a bell, musically they were so together, great live mixes.... wired mics, discipline. The best live shows. So glad for UA-cam.
Because it's STEVE PERRY there is no other
@@veronicaferro4976 so true!

And this is why I will never see the "Journey" reboot without Steve Perry!
AMEN!!
Arguably the greatest rock singer of all time.
Agreed for Rock. Lou Gramm, John Farnham as far as being able to belt It out. But this list is enormous if you include other categories. I'm old but I consider Tony Bennet the greatest male singer of all time with Andy Williams right behind him.
@@jlandon6028 I heard that about those two......lol
I agree 100 percent , Perry’s voice absolutely soars! I’d put Steve Perry in a category with a prime Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, Paul Rodgers, and a few others. It seems unlike many others he took care of his voice, didn’t smoke or use drugs. His live performances were very consistent.
@@bradsquires5971 Spot on except for the drugs part.
Back in the 70's and 80's. the boys in the band were fond of their blow until the studio they were using was raided by the police back in the 80's. None of the band members were in the studio at the time of the raid, but they were recording an album there.
You are correct, however. Perry did take good care of his voice and used drugs the least.
@@jlandon6028 Tony Bennet and Andy Williams ? You might as well include Dean Martin and for overall interpretation of song, it doesn't get better than Ole Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra.
Such an underrated song. Journey was just a hit making machine throughout this era.
It's rated exactly where it should be.
Should’ve run it right after Don’t Stop Believin’ as Sopranos rolled credits.
Understatement
no its not the radio played the heck out of it back in the 80's !
U kidding? This was YUGE!
Steve Perry’s voice is flawless, and Neil is one of the best guitarists in the world.
Neal Schon rippin it up
I've been hopelessly in love with Steve ever since I turned on my radio and heard 'open arms' .I'm 65 now and still hopelessly in love with him
No one can hold a candle to Steve Perry the Voice in Journey!! Simply the Best!!!!
I saw them live in 81 and 83. Perry simply one of the greatest voices of any period.
@@nitedrive2956 what concerts?
@@chaseharlann For both the '81 Escape tour and follow up Frontiers tour in '83 - saw them at the L.A. Forum.
The '81 show was late November, and I don't remember when the '83 was... I want to say late Spring or early Summer.
Loverboy opened the '81 show. Bryan Adams, the '83 show. Both put on a great show.
@@nitedrive2956 i have
November 22nd, 1981 at the Forum and 2 shows from 1983 aswell: August 7th & 9th at the Forum
@@chaseharlann Yes! I've actually heard that post and commented....though can't find my comment now. hmmm. But this was just a magical night for me. Dad took me and my sister, first concert. That crowd was amazing, as were Journey. Thanks for putting up all these shows. Wow, gotta go listen to those Aug 83 shows....
Anyone who thinks the new guy is singing better than Steve in his prime is sniffing glue...Steve is nailing it live effortlessly...yeah he's got power
This is so ridiculously tight. And Neal Schon shows the insanity of his chops.
Steve's voice is AMAZING, PHENOMENAL, ONE-OF-A-KIND, and BEAUTIFUL, and Neal is CRAZY on the guitar. But let's not overlook Steve Smith KILLIN' it on the drums, and Ross cuttin' up on the bass!!! These boys are MAGIC!
Steve Smith is from my hometown in Massachusetts. In fact, he was close friends with my "sisters" ex boyfriend.
Steve is one of the greatest voice's in Rock, Neal S. is EXTREMELY under rated, doing pretty well for a high school drop out. One of the greatest rock bands ever. All members are great musicians in their own right.
Yes Neil rocks !
Back in the 80s when all of these Metal Head guitarists were getting involved in Metal Aid they gathered together guys like George Lynch from Dokken and some of those other so-called "rock guitarists trading riffs. When Neil Schon stepped up all of their jaws dropped as he proceeded to shred and annihilate every one of them with his incredible runs and churning riffs. He blew every one of them away like you wouldn't believe. He is truly one of the very top guitarists and I would not say he's underrated except maybe by people who just don't know!
Who underrated Neal? He’s a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Don’t you think he’s quite highly rated since he was voted in with the rest of the members of Journey? You must be an idiot.
I have 1 regret. I didn't see Journey in concert when I had the chance!
Same. One of the biggest regrets in my life. I saw Journey with Steve Augeri and it was meh… It put me in a foul mood because it wasn’t Steve Perry and it lacked his magic.
That's when Journey was Journey. They were no.1 around the country. Neil was.amazing. Steve on drums was awesome. They called the animal. Of course Steve was rocking the stage. I Loved watching him. He can't be touched EVER!!!!
TOTALLY AGREE! 💖
Journey without Greg Rollie, a little less blues a little more pop (Jonathon Cain) but Steve Perry and Neal Schon make it great.
Bullshit. Neil peart would take his ass to school.
So Nobody's Going 2 Speak On ROSS VALORY'S Impeccable & Funky Bass Playing Huh? Ross Rarely Get The Recognition That He Deserves When The Great Bass Players In Journey's Era Of Music R Spoken Of!!!
I agree..he is a great bass player..and wrote several.of the songs on the first album. Google the Winterland videos and watch/listen to him on the one called "unnamed instrumental"..it is actually one of their early unreleased songs called charge of the light brigade. Valory, Schon, and Dunbar (before Steve Smith) are incredible. Schon is in the stratosphere on it. Dunbar was every bit the drummer that Smith is. But I agree, Valory does not get the credit he deserves.
I agree, Ross should get alot more credit.
And, Steve Smith as well.
@@prometheuspredator7971 i agree with everyone, what a kick ass band, they were xtremely tight, you can't replace them.
@@jimjam1719, I agree.
Noone has this amazing voice in music. The band is awesome, but Steve Perry made this band what it is today!
Best frontman ever to come along in a long time
The best male vocalist who EVER lived. Steve Perry. The world is less of a place without his voice.
Jason H Did you know that Steve released a new album, Traces, on 10/5/18? Check out his UA-cam channel. Target has a deluxe version with five additional songs.
Hi JK ! I picked it up. Thanks 4 the heads up.
He is great, but there are others every bit as good...maybe different styles, but every bit as good....Rik Emmett, Ronnie James Dio, Steve Walsh, Geoff Tate, Paul Rodgers....Emmett could hit any note Steve Perry could WITH EASE and playing virtuoso guitar at the same time. Different style...pure rock...Perry more blues/R&B..Don't believe me...go watch the Vocalyst do a breakdown of three of Rik's vocals at the '83 US Festival...virtuoso..voice and guitarist.
The best voice in history!!!!!!!!!!
amen!!!
By a long shot. He is from another planet
@@Gma00001 quite possible
80s were great drive ins bowling alleys pac man miss it
No!
If only I could go back to these days for just a week.......
File under..... IF I had a time machine.... the #80s..... BRING IT!
It was a wonderful time....you felt everything this man sung, deep to your soul. So many good tunes... Rubicon, Sweet and simple, Mother-father, winds of March, city of the angels.....so on and so on.
I would go back forever.
I wasn't even born yet and wish I could go back in time too
I would give anything to go back to 1980 and do it All over again!!
How this didn't become a bigger hit, I'll never know!!!
I believe it was because they didn't fall for the "demonic" culture of this industry.....
私もこの曲が大好きです💞
I remember this playing a lot in 1981.
Because others determine what songs will be played on the radio and marketed
@@fredstriker2042 Look up “rhetorical question”
Greatest live Front man ever. And unless youve seen them live. There's NO dispute. Saw them 5 times live from 81 to 86.
So lucky 🍀
I agree. I saw them twice in that era.
Freddie?
one of the greatest guitar solos of all time
I love the jamming he does and the rest of the guys just blend in. 🤘🎙🎸🎹🥁
Neal Schon proves undeniably what a phenomenal guitar player he really is here. One of Journey's greatest unpopular songs ever written. Steve sounds amazing as per usual and Neal tears up that six string!!!
Even though it didn't burn up the billboard charts this song was always popular with Journey fans.
Hell yeah it was....great song
He shredded the living fuge out that guitar!!!!!!!
Always thought this song was extremely underrated. Spectacular. Love it.
Yes it was.....
The man can sing. He's a true quality stage performer as well!
Neal Schon developed that sick intro guitar lick and then reintroduces it again at around 4 minutes into a spectacular guitar solo.
Journey! A band that was as good live as they were in the studio...or better.
Totally agree. I saw them twice and they sounded as good as the 8 track or cassette i listened to on the way to the concert.
So were the Eagles,,,,,how fortunate we were to grow up with the most diverse, in terms of genre, and profoundly inspired musicians & vocalists who wrote and sang their own songs which we still enjoy 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and even 60 year later! Blessed, that's how I feel!
Old time music for sure
J Landon DEFINITELY better!
Agree on that!!!!
Arguably the greatest rock guitar player of all time.
I'm HOPELESSLY IN LOVE with Steve Perry! Man, he could sing like no other. I'm so in love with him!
No one can never and I mean never come close to ever sounding like Steve Perry. He is one in a million.!!!
These vocals are incredible. My lord...flawless.
The best singer ever!!! ❤️ A true gift! 😘
Neal's guitar skill is beyond the level of ridiculous.
This is THE quintessential Journey lineup.. hitting on all cylinders, at the top of their game.
When Greg was on keyboards and Steve was out front, the band could not be topped. That was, and will always be, the real Journey to me.
Man they were all on one level...that guitar and SP voice are magical
THE most talented musicians came out of the 80s without a doubt!! Today's music can't hold a candle to it!!!!
There are presents and there are gifts...Steve’s voice is a GIFT!
It's amazing how this band and this performance era is so riveting, without big video screens, lasers, samples, or sequencers. Their sheer live performance brilliance still mesmerizes me.
Herbie Herbert, Journey's manager, actually invented the big screen located behind them, so that everyone in the venue were able to see them. After that, other bands stole the idea. It's not a bad idea, though.
This group was the BEST - with Steve Perry, of course. (And S.P. had the best hair game in the BUSINESS!!! GORGEOUS!!!)
Great song, highly underrated!!!!!!!!!
After 35 years my high school friends still remember my love of Steve Perry! It is still there!!❤️❤️
It looks like the audience are just staring in awe!!!
Boring audience. I would be standing up and dancing..
This song still gives me chills.
Me, 2.. wow.. I. Get. Cold. And. Really. Chilly. Now. Wow. Thanks. Steve..
Me. To. The chills. And. The. 🔥
Steve gives me chills
Take an Advil.
I love Steve Perry! Best vocalist ever.
Thank you God for Journey and The Eighties rocked!! No other like them ever. 🥰😊
Good he was gorgeous! His voice MADE Journey.
the best live version of this song imo. Top of their game, and yeah they were really this good...
Still miss this magic that Steve, Neal, Jonathan, Ross and Steve Smith had... Truly my favorite song by the legendary band. Neal's riff in the middle is just pure electric. Steve's voice never wavers... Again. It was truly magic... Reconcile guys so that is true Journey fans can get a chance to see y'all rock once more- for old times sakes...
Aaron Lake Not going to happen ..ever, and we should stop pressuring Steve to go back. Steve Perry came and for those few glorious years he gave us his everything, left it all on the table and it was magical. No more could be asked of any man, let him be content with what he gave of himself, he owes us nothing.
Never stated he hasn’t given everything he’s got. Just for those of us who were too young to see them live t would be a dream for one reunion tour. That isn’t too much to ask for.
Yes, it's a shame they probably will not get back together. So sad.
here we go the best voice in rock ever with one of the best guitar players ever
You know Neal Schon does not get the recognition he deserves as one of rocks greatest guitar players ever. He is up there with Carlos Santana, Jimmy Hendrix etc. Steve Perry we miss and still think you have the best voice in rock history. Ah heck all these guys were pure talent, Ross Valory, Steve Smith , and Jon Cain We want you all back together.
Greg Rollie was pretty awesome too.
Cynthia Arnold Truth.
Neal Schon n' Gregg Rolie were with Santana, and left to form Journey. That was in 1972.
Even Prince was a fan.
Cynthia Arnold Absolute bullshit statement. Neal's right up there with the elite guitarists of rock. I can assure you anymore claiming to play guitar knows who Neal is.
That voice is the best ever!!! Journey is so underrated!
Steve sounded incredible live!!!
it was really effortless for Him. his notes would just....soar...never out of tune ...
it was really effortless for Him. his notes would just....soar...never out of tune ...
This is the one FACT that puts him ahead of The Nicest Man in Rock, Mr. Bradley Delp!
Yeah he's an excellent drummer
Nothing compares to Steve Perry's voice. It's truly one in a million.
Real music like this just gets better with time!!! Best vocalist..Steve Perry..Best Band..Journey..love y'all ♥️
Steve Perry. The VOICE. No better. The range and the ease.
Untouchable! Honest, live performance! What a band! Steve Perry and that bulletproof voice!😵👍😎
Oh Yes, I love my Journey with Steve Perry!! Those were the days Journey was at it's very best!!
My God what a voice!
1:25 that glance Schon gives to Perry, "your vocals are so worthy". That glance gives away so much of his thoughts at that moment. Epic.
I thought the exact same thing Jim!
They look like they had a BLAST performing together. Neal is AMAZING.
This is such a great song. Journey is vastly underrated as a band
Underrated? By who? Widely agreed to be one of the best rock bands of all time
One of their best songs by far. Schon's guitar in this is so good.
Masters of Live performance. Easily better than studio version.
Oh yeah, I totally agree!!
Hank Yoo Agree, I've never heard anyone better live, in any genre.
That dude can sing !!
Neil Tipton TRUTH
Neil Tipton
One of the greatest singers humanity has ever witnessed.
Better live than studio. And uncorrected like a lot of today’s singers are.
That's the part that is most impressive. These guys played in an era where there was no auto-tune or background track. What you hear is 5 really great musicians at the top of their game.
The voice!
I just CAN’T with this lineup!! The funk faces! The licks!! They are IMPECCABLE!!
We know the voice is phenomenal, but oh, the music in this one is unreal!
I have watched this video so many times and I must say Neal’s solo is so incredible. He is amazing!
Me too! I bet I have watched this 200 times if I have watched it once and for the same reason!
Best male singer ever. He really had The Voice. Such a pity he broke up with the band and lost the edge.
God bless Steve.
God bless Journey.
Amazing talented band.and of course Steve perry.the goat
World class musicians.
That was incredibly tight, damn! Absolute perfection.
best band ever
No, I'm hopelessly in love with you! Journey with Steve Forever ❤️❤️❤️💕
Schon is a beast on guitar!!!
+Todd Sundell affirmative!
Child prodigy at age 15...Played with Santana and Clapton
Eddie Van Halen got all the attention due to all the tricks and showboating, but Schon actually added something amazing to every song he was featured.
@@sedricrobinson9499 I never got why the girls were gaga for EVH. I always found him to be immature and goofy and a bit of a one trick pony. The men in Journey have always acted like grown men. And NS creates whole moods with each song. As evidenced in this song.....NS's guitar is so happy, uplifting and hopeful.
@@atomicplaygirl66 couldn't agree more
Have you noticed how Neal looks over at Steve a lot and vice versa, I don't care what anybody says they have real chemistry together, it's so evident in their singing, playing and body language. Steve and Neal will go down in history as 2 of the greatest in rock history!!!
I completely agree, Julie! They were among the best voice/guitar combinations ever!
So true...
@@GermanProudly Absolutely 100% correct!!!
I totally agree! I look forward to those moments. Love Steve's Journey.
They have a lot of "duets"
The harmony with Steve's voice and Neal's guitar are constant in their live shows.
The greatest ever. He was as good live, as he was in a studio. I love watching goofing off and having a good time..
Love his Voice, his spirit, his passion, his smile, his humor, his moves……God made one gorgeous well rounded and AMAZINGLY talented human being. Thank you God for Steve Perry.
this man has the voice of an angel
AMEN! And the last time "Rolling Stone" magazine did a "100 Greatest Voices" edition, Steve Perry was Number 76 or 79! 76 or 79!!! I would put him at Number 1, but at least they could have put him in the top 5 or10! No lower than Number 10! Come on, folks! Has the world gone mad??!! (Oh, yeah. This is 2020. So I guess it HAS gone mad. :/
To the new generation...Yes, this is played Live. Incredible.
6:05 I’m speechless. His effortless soul and tone 👌🏼
And how about at 2:08. And again at 2:48. Greatest male singer in my opinion. Even above Freddy Mercury
Effortless perfection…. Amazingly gelled band.
FINALLY!!!! JOURNEY will be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame April 17th 2017. It will be shown on HBO.

My favorite version. Steve rocks!
I love watching Steve play the air guitar!
Neal Schon is one of the BADDEST GUITAR PLAYERS ON THE PLANET...HE STILL KICKS ASS IN HIS 60's...Totally UNDERRATED....Mad Props to this Cat..
I had a friend who could shred flamenco guitar and also hard rock and metal, and Neal was his favorite rock guitarist - he said Neal can play anything.
