I just read an interview with the band about this song and Steve was in the room during mixing after he added his vocal touches. The band wanted to add more of Steve (so you could hear him more) and even asked him to sing a verse or part if one. Steve said no. This version of the song is about your band and not me. I don't want you being a backing band for me. So Steve added his vocal highlights and touches and was happy with it. He also suggested other things in the song for them to do. You can find it on Ultimate Classic rock.
I can totally hear you Steve Perry! The remake is super 80’s perfection! I would believe this sound is very hard to recreate. I applaud this band to be willing to take this chance on all levels.
