    • @SecularSpinach
      @SecularSpinach 10 місяців тому +23

      From Dr. G's description here, I don't believe he "thought it would fly" as in getting him off scott free. Rather, his hope was for the conviction to be on a lessor charge than 1st degree murder. With a 2nd or even 3rd degree conviction, he might well have the possibility of being released on parole down the road. (Possibly eligible in what? 25 or 30 yrs or so maybe..) That was the defense strategy I got from this, but I'm thrilled that he got LIFE WITHOUT PAROLE!

      @Vindsvelle 10 місяців тому

      @@7Mushrooms7That's what I always find so incomprehensible about people like Grazioli, and at the furthest extreme of that pathology, the phenomenon of the *family annihilator.* Sure, divorcing one's spouse and absenting oneself from the lives of one's children isn't _great,_ but when the sole "alternative" in these people's fevered imaginings can only be summary execution of their immediate family (John List being a particularly vile case study), taking the deadbeat dad approach is outright NOBLE.
      It takes a profoundly effed-up rat's nest of egotism to think that murder is preferable over simply disengaging from a relationship(s) with dignity - or _leaving one's spouse alive_ at the very least. Even if we credit Grazioli's claim of having been under the influence of booze and coke, *no* amount of drugs (non-Diliriants / non-Dissociatives, at least) would be able to usurp a healthy individual's fundamental moral imperatives -- making it all the more detestable when one considers he probably was sober as a stone when he killed his wife...

When I met him he was paying reluctantly for them but little to no contact. I should’ve seen the sad excuse for a man he was then, but I didn’t. I do now, we didn’t have kids, my choice. He now, after our split, has another kid by a polish lady. I hope he manned up and was a better and more consistent father than he’s been up to date. YEP, when I took self defense shooting lessons, various Glocks were my training pistols. I had to get on a training program for hand muscles because I was not able to even press the trigger while holding the gun properly. Sure, men's hands are stronger but, generally speaking, pistols are manufactured in a way where you need to be intending and determined to pull the trigger; it's not an effortless process.
    Let's assume for a moment that this was an accident. Being impaired by any substance is not an excuse. Also, if you handle a gun and it discharges, you can be charged with negligent discharge even if you didn't injure or kill anyone. Not sure about every state, but in AZ that's what they told us at concealed carry course. It is a big No-No. Also, don't have the gun pointed at anyone. Even when at a range training. Even when there are no rounds at all. And don't put your finger on a trigger while handling the gun. The hand is on the trigger only when you need to discharge your firearm.

    I just started watching Dr Grande recently and I'm absolutely shocked to see someone I once knew featured in a video. I'm from the Erie, PA area originally, though I've mostly lived in AK since 2010.
    As a newly licensed Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor in 2005, John was my very first flight student. I had no idea this even happened, and couldn't believe it when I saw his name. Though I didn't know him outside of the student/teacher training environment, I remember him as a sharp student pilot and at that time in 2005/2006, he seemed like a generally nice guy, we spent a significant amount of time training together over the course of a year or so. He never struck me as the type to have such despicable moral character.
    Its disturbing what may lie just below the surface of someone who you interact with. My very sincere thoughts and condolences go out to everyone in both families who were tragically affected by this horrific event.

    Clarification he didn't seek absolution. I read a few reports that stated Roman Catholic law forbids priests contacting authorities over confessions, Rev Polinek made the decision to call police after Grazioli hadn't asked to receive the sacrament of confession. Catholic priests uphold the seal of confession. Because he did not receive the sacrament the priest used his judgement to call authorities. Upholding the seal of confession is important because if it was not upheld why would anyone go to have an encounter with a priest to hear one's sins to confess and hear the words of absolution when repenting. From the reports he did not want to ask forgiveness he did not want to partake of the graces of the sacrament ...he just wanted to tell someone this priest what he did and nothing else...this is why the priest did what he did...he did not break the seal because the guy didn't go to have a formal sacaramental confession. Another point in general yes the Church believes if you commit suicide you objectively would go to hell since it is a grave matter. However, for it to be grave one must have free will, know what they are doing is gravely wrong and do it anyway...so it is possible if someone had a mental illness and committed suicide they may not have gone to hell because they did not really have free will. Not excusing what he did but providing insight to Catholic beliefs.
